Congratulations, Sierra! Chet’s April Friend of the Month

Sierra’s human companion – please email a postal address to spence.quinn@gmail.com and a signed copy of The Dog Who Knew Too Much will be on its way to you.”

Welcome Ozzie, Paddi Anna, Koko, Dante, Sidzilla, bunny-ear dude, Flower, birdwatcher, sunbather, toy catcher, Chauncey from Illinois, identity-issues dude, Gabby, Sadie from Tennessee, Mattie.

Congratulations, Sierra. We belong to your club!

We loved both movies last night.

    Good Morning
Congratulations Sierra. We’ll be happy to see you everyday in April.

I never dreamed that retirement could be so busy. If anyone asked me what I’ve done at the end of the day, I probably couldn’t say, but it seems that bedtime comes a lot faster than it used to. I have no trouble filling these shortened days; and, like most other retirees, I wonder how I ever found time to work. When I don’t have tasks of my own to do, my friends have a way of helping me keep busy covering for them in their stores and shops. Take that as a warning Dawson and Harris. Your retirement will no doubt be very busy also.
Now here is the April calendar page. Tyb is taking a break for the month and Blou is
    doing the honors.

Good morning Oley, what movies did you watch?

Congratulations to Sierra, FOM. I had paws crossed for Beau, just so we could mess with Rio for an entire month.

BTW Rio, what did you mean by your comment last night? That we never stay up late, or that Barb has a hard time remembering things? Both could be true.

Thanks Macy for coming up with Everybody’s Talking At Me. 1969, Harry Nilsson, Rhinestone Cowboy theme song.

I see we changed to DST the first Sunday in April, just like we last did in 2006. My guess about our software is that we have gone back to a very old version. Remember when we got new software so we could be more like Facebookie? That was not how we wanted the blog to work and we were conniping like crazy. B. said Mike Baker was so SOL and she attacked him with Melanie’s cane. Oh yeah, Mr. Baker will never be the same. That got us our old software back, but it was a newer old that let us have 100 posts to a page. Then the blog bug was attacking all the time so we were again conniping. Finally, one day, we had 50 posts to a page and the blog has been stable since then. At some point old software won’t work when a new operating system renders it incompatible, but until then we can carry on fat and happy. Then at the end of October we’ll go on Standard Time two weeks early.

Good on ya, Macy, for remembering the words to the song and to Wolfie for knowing the composer and more.
MollyPop’s Mom proved herself to be blog software savy once again.

Drat! We are an hour behind again. Now I will have to think when I look to see what time something was posted. sniffle. Math is not my friend.

I was going to say Math is not my long suit but then I started thinking about that phrase. B? Does that have something to do with clothes, or cards?

“Not my long suit”. Perhaps with Bridge?

Interesting morning on the ol’ homestead!

Zoë and I went for the walk/run and while we were getting Mattie on her lead (she’s not called Waltzing Mathilda for nothing!) Ellie disappeared. Completely! Gone!

We called (since she’s deaf that really doesn’t work), Zoë used the emergency whistle (some times works), but NOTHING!

Ellie is 13. She has taken 2 of those Adequan shots. We wandered this way and that. We KNEW she wouldn’t go down the STEEP hill, because she’s 13!

I found her. She had gone down the steep hill and gotten stuck in a hole. Like a plug! She had followed the younger members of the Pack and investigated this hole then walk over it. Her back legs went down the hole and down she went. Hmmmm.

It was interesting getting her out. I had lots of help. Then everyone had to smell her butt then the hole then her butt and then hole etc etc.

Needless to say with all the excitement the dogs got very tired. They had to run down where I was then up to where Zoe was. Very exciting.

Anyhoo, The shots appear to be working!

Melanie: You and the Newfs always have interesting adventures!

Tyb’s: Thanks for Blou’s April page. Something to consider for the next Snowhook auction!

Bear and Macy: I love, love, love Harry Nillson! But being the font of worthless trivia, with your permssion, I would like to make a few corrections.

Everybody’ Talking aw not written by Harry. He was originally asked to write the theme, but the powers that be didn’t care much for it. The song was actually written by Fred Neil, and performed by Harry in the film ” Midnight Cowboy”.

Tyb: Blou is very well behaved among all those rabbits. There is a new Friend of Chet that is wearing bunny ears. (I was going to say rabbit ears but those are the things that go on top of really old tv’s.)
Mattie is a FOC! She is so excited about it that she ran off and got herself stuck in a hole. (Reminds me of a Winnie the Pooh story.)

One of the new FOC’s is a tripaw. We have a sister that is a tripaw. Mom brought her home from the shelter to live here last year. She is missing one of her front legs at the shoulder but you should see her run and jump!! And attitude!!!! She doesn’t take any S*** from the rest of us. We think Mom should have named her Tippy, but she’s Miss Emmie.

    Owley,
I did not see the other rabbit, but I’ll check right away. I have a friend who has rescued two tripaws (at different times) and named them Tripod. They had no trouble on three legs. My vet says dogs are built with three legs and a spare. Believe it or not, I even saw a three legged dog lift one of the back legs to mark a tree. It blew my mind how well he balanced.

I just checked out the rabbit eared dog on FOC. She looks about as happy as Blou does with the ears. I also noticed Sadie from Tennessee who, I think, is gorgeous. “In many parts of Europe, an April Fools prank is called an April fish. The original, smelliest, version of such a prank was to attach a dead fish to the back of an unsuspecting victim; in kinder times a paper cut-out of a fish was substituted. The person fooled was called an April fish, meaning that he was a young fish who was easily caught.”

What a great day Mama has been having. First they went with Gramp to a local sugar house and had pancakes and french toast with the maple syrup right out of the evaporator. Oh my!
When they left, Gramps got her one more treat – maple cotton candy. Mama usually doesn’t eat any kind of sugary stuff, but once a year at a sugar house…well, you gotta live it up.

Then they went to a country store that was full of neat whimsies and bobbles. Mama resisted most temptations, but Dad did get a “wrapple”- a kind of pie crust roll up with fruit stuffing. Of course, Dad can eat all that stuff and not gain an ounce. He has the metabolism of a gerbil on speed. Mama….not so much…

After they came home and gave us pets and tummies and cookies, they went to the clay place to drop off some new pots to be fired, and since they were halfway, they went to another country store. This place has all the best locally grown herbs and seasonings. Mama got some new herbs to cook with, and they got some catnip for you-know-who.

Talk about your April Fools – two zoned out Wrotten Kats, laying on the carpet. Now is our chance – if we can just get them stuffed in this box and ship it to Alaska….

TYB, You are right, Sadie does look like an ES. You don’t see too many clear sable ES. More of them tend to be tris or shaded sable like me.

That cat/dog reminded Barb of a story. About 10 years ago she went to visit an elderly aunt, who had grown up on a farm, then moved to town later in life. She had a feral cat that visited her and she always put food out for it. It sounded like a cat that had some sort of injury and could not move its back legs properly. Evidenly it sort of hopped, moving both back legs together. Some one started a story that it was a “cabbot”, half rabbit, half cat. Barb told her she had heard those urban ledgend stories before and that it wasn’t really possible to cross species. She could not convince her, even tho her cabbot seemed to only eat cat food.

Belle Starr: You can stay with Rose though the end of the weekend. I dont wag you to wear out your welcome.

After weather delays, I arrived in Anchorage from Dutch late last night. My boss recommended I rent a hotel room in town so I wouldn’t be driving home so late. It was a good call because I could barely keep my eyes open. Before I left to go to Dutch last week, the awning over our front door collapsed from the weight of the snow. It was blocking my exit so I had to go to our back door we rarely use and dig out through shoulde deep snow to get to the car.

Hey, y’all! I’m a bit late getting on the blog today, but we’ve had a bit of a busy weekend. And my boy and his girlfriend and the two pugs ended up coming this afternoon instead of Friday, so they’ve just gone — thank goodness! Those two were getting all the attention and nobody paid any attention to me at all. 🙁 Mom kept trying to take pictures of all of us together, but I showed her! I wouldn’t pose with them at all!

The boy dog was a little tired and he ended up laying around a lot. On top of his heartworms he’s being treated for some kind of infection, so I don’t think he was feeling too peppy. He did get up and walk around the backyard a little bit when it got cooler. He’s kind of sad to look at, because he’s way underweight, and he has a rib that sticks out funny. The vet thinks maybe he was abused, and the rib healed wrong. He’s gained about two pounds since he came to live with my boy’s girlfriend. He really likes my boy, and he follows him around all the time, so I hope my boy gets to adopt him when he gets better.

As for the girl, she just kept smelling me. Silly girl!
