Congratulations Riley!

The random # generator (made in a hipster garage in Seattle) has spoken: “Riley!” Congrats to Riley, Chet’s April Friend of the month, who will be in the special place on the right until May. As soon as we get a mailing address for Riley’s human companion (send to spence.quinn@gmail.com), a signed (and paw-printed!) copy of The Sound and the Furry will be winging its way.

Next month this could be you! Just send a photo into the gallery, as Lucy Lou & Darah Thea from Canada; Ginger; Trixie & Chico; Xena; leisurely dude; and Lucy Ball did today. It’s easy! It’s fun! No downside! Huge payoff!

So long to Poochie, a good friend of the month, and welcome to Riley, who looks handsome on the color red.

Riley is another recent FOC and I think those hipsters built a pattern into that “random” number generator, possibly depending on how many days there are in the month. Hmmmm.

When I came back from the Massachusetts trip, I was in trouble when I opened my suitcase the next day. All of my clothes had the smell of Callie, Tupper, Gillie, Basil and Sage. Last night I got into trouble right away. Loulou was sniffing me from head to toe as soon as I arrived and we got the greetings over with. Then I realized it wasn’t just Sadie’s smell, that the pants I was wearing were the same ones that I wore to visit Snowhook kennels. Once again I had a lot of ‘splainin’ to do.

4 parts water and 1 part sugar. Not honey, not brown or any fancy sugar just plain old white sugar.

I use 4 cups water and 1 cup sugar and heat it just till boiling. Then let it cool and put it in a quart jar and store in the fridge.

  44. Staff
    1:05 pm on April 1st, 2014

The butterfly nectar is 10% sugar and 90% water.

The instructions say to fill the ‘feeder’ to the top of the plastic and place in the sun. It says to grease the stick with petroleum jelly or Pam to discourage ants from feeding. Clean solution every 2 days to prevent bacteria. Clean with hot water only, no soap.

    There you go.

Mama just bought a cat tree for those two Wrotten Delinquent Kats! She says they need someplace to climb out on the breezeway so they can look out the windows.

And just who worries about CORGIS who want to look out windows, we ask you? No one, that’s who. Just cuz we get to go run around in the backyard, and go in the car and go for walks, that’s no excuse.

Yes the photo of me at the table showed me drinking wine and having a fun time! MPM selected the perfect light red wine but talked so much about the Cahoors wine that I will be going to a wine store soon and seeing if I can buy some bottles.

One thing MPM might not have been aware of during the sled dog ride….AJ was standing on the brake with one leg the whole time. The brake scraps off the top layer of snow which was flying out behind AJ and hitting me (the first outing had me on the back runners). I was turning into a snowman during the ride and had to pound a layer of snow off me when we returned to the kennel. I had expected MPM to be taken for a ride but not me so I wasn’t wearing my snowsuit, just denim slacks. Heh.

    Mpm,

I’m sorry you didn’t have a better experience. When I’m giving a ride to someone I take into account all aspects of their safety and prepare the guest for the worst… And then we go have a great experience. We’ll just have to go again.

It could have been worse. We could have been traveling down the gorge. Jason Mackey tod me his GPS read 31 mph when we were going down it.

See you on the trail all…

I can vouch for AJ: instructions were given for the worse but we were in great hands. I had been in a dog sled years ago so knew what to expect. I think it is more intense for first timers.

Another story. When we got back to the kennel and AJ & I were going to head out again, Rebecca suggested that I ride in front so I could see something. She reminded AJ how tall he was and that I couldn’t see around him and so would just be staring at his backside the whole ride . She suggested that I would be tired of the view. I assured her that it wasn’t a problem.

Mom was not scared one little bit in AJ’s sled, until Pop flipped it over. She does wish she would have gotten to ride on the runners a bit. She was nervous about that, but would have done it. Unfortunately, she never got the opportunity. Why? Probably because AJ was afraid she would do worse than Pop. But we know she has better balance. It is Pop who comes off horses. Heh!
