He’ll be over in the special place on the right for the month, and as soon as we get a mailing address for his human companion, a signed and paw-printed copy of The Sound and the Furry, the latest Chet and Bernie mystery, will be on its way.
Next month this could be you! Just think. All you have to do is send in a photo to the Friends gallery. The random number generator – see pic in yesterday’s post – does the rest.

Good morning, everyone! Welcome Poochie. Yesterday the kennels and all the dogs was overwhelming. AJ gave sled rides around the property. Frank James doing lead dog got loose and was running down the road. I leaned down and called him like I used to do with one of mine and he flew right to me like he was trained to 🙂
Started at one side of the dog yard and worked my way around greeting, giving: knuckle noggins, ear rubbeers, chest rubbers and the infamous butt rubbers. A good time was had by all. I had to quit when I got to Chet and Bernie, those rambunctious teenagers (that Rose and Grizz held last year). They wanted to hold me down and give me a saliva facial. No thank you.
I must rely on other’s fotos since I didn’t carry the I Paw near the dogs…dangerous and dumb.

We did not eat moose. The no-snow-beque featured hamburgers and hot dogs and beans and you name it. But no moose.
One of those pups is Rose the Not Meek, but Bella will have to tell us which one. There were so many dogs and pups giving hugs and kisses to me me me that I overdosed and my brain is still on overload, albeit a very happy overload.

Wose, you would not believe how big and strong the LDA “pups” are this year. Before my sled ride, AJ changed dogs, and put Chet, Bernie, and Little on the line. Awesome!!!

Iggy was on the sled line with the first group. He and Chet get goofy with each other so they don’t work together. I took fotos of the pups (Rose, Melanie, Zoe, Amalia, Dawson and Maurry for sure) but they are on a digital camera that will have to be down loaded.
P.S. Mr. OH dove off the sled because he thought there we a tree with his name on it heading toward them 🙂

I almost forgot to say: 1) Thanks Tyb for the March calendar, 2) I got to wear dog nose art on my glasses all day and Rio laughed so hard his tail almost straightened out and 3) The Dirty Daddy Dawg and I walked downtown Anchorage after dark (not hard) and saw some of the set-up for today and stopped and split an Alaskan crab cake at a place here downtown.
Our hotel is 2 blocks from the “START” line and is Plunderer Central for rests, warm-ups and time outs if a certain pug misbehaves.

Sports announcers always blab too much.
One thing they said was that more people have climbed Mount Everest than have finished the Iditarod. I looked it up and as of February, 2014, there have been 6,871 “summits” of Everest. Snowhook has finished the Iditarod three times already.

Mike Ellis had his ten year old veteran leader, Stump, lead the ceremonial start today, but Stump will not be going on the journey to Nome. Mike just wanted Stump to have fun today.
So, we know a musher can remove a dog from the ceremonial start team, but I do not know if they can add a dog at the re-start that didn’t make the ceremonial run.

I got to see almost all of the teams from right up front at the start. How cool is that. I missed a few that started early, and a few more when I went back to the car for my warmer boots. But I saw 3 out of 4 Sibe teams, and Karen Ramstead and Mike Ellis both waved to me like we are old buds. I think they smelled Sibe on me. 🙂
I cannot believe I was so close right there at the Ceremonial Start. Unfortunately, my throat now hurts bad and I have lost my voice, so I must try to get some sleep.

Twenty dogs were microchipped at the final vet check. The lucky 16 dogs that get to run the race can be any of those dogs. They do not have to have run in the ceremonial start. AJ only ran 12 dogs this morning. (I think that is right)

After the Ceremonial start and the pomp came something as silly as I have ever seen. More ridiculous than Mardi Gras and Spring Break rolled together. “The Running of the Reindeer” goes down the same street as the Start but people make silly costumes (or non-costumes…bare skin) and run down the street with poor frightened reindeer being herded behind them. I thought I saw a pug costume give Dirty/Digger/Daddy Dawg a wink. Could it have been?

A few of us have been dealing with congestion and scratchy throats. Tonight Sadie had a late supper and a few minutes later threw it up. Too much excitement between race day and card playing I guess. The Hobbit Hotel is going to lose one of its rating stars if residents keep getting sick. I do dearly love my guests and am going to feel sad and lonely at checkout time
