Congratulations Macbeth!
“The random number generator sure is noisy,” Spence says.
“Due to its East German manufacture, circa 1954,” says Admin. “You have to kick it.”
“It was particularly noisy today,” Spence said, “full of sound and fury and signifying: Macbeth, Chet’s new Friend of the Month. Macbeth will be over in the special place over on the right for all of January, and as soon as Macbeth’s human companion sends a postal address to spence.quinn@gmail.com, a signed and paw-printed copy of A Fistful of Collars will be on the way.”
“Next month this could be you!” says Admin. “Just upload a photo to the Friends of Chet gallery. The random number generator does the rest.”
“If we can put it back together in time,” Spence says. “Happy New Year everybody!”
Welcome Ellie & Dutch, Slim Jim dude, Dixie, Murphy, Fonzy, Rosie & Rusty, Roxy, Maggie (R.I.P.), Angel (R.I.P.), cuddling dude, Shiloh, Riley, Milo, Ginger, Chester, friendly dude, Gretchen, Indie, New Year’s reveler.

Odin: Happy New Year to Chet & Spence! Congratulations to Macbeth on being ‘Randomly’ picked as Chet’s Friend of the Month!
My mom just finished reading ‘A Fistful of Collars’ to me and it’s the best Chet adventure yet! Thank you Spence, for helping Chet to write these great stories!

I’m lauging too much at the moment to post. Welcome and congratulations to Macbeth!
Good morning all.

See: I’m laughing so hard that I couldn’t spell laughing.
10:14 am on January 1st, 2013
Good morning and Happy 2013 everyone!
Wonder what Rio is going to say about the “randomness” of our new FOM. Last month Odin with Santa, and this month a dog who just happens to be named Macbeth. Nice segue to The Sound and the Furry! heehee
10:15 am on January 1st, 2013
Goodbye Odin
Welcome MacBeth
Morning all Plunderers
It’s the 1st Day of 2013
10:29 am on January 1st, 2013
Good Morning All and Happy New Year!
So far nothing has been stolen and eaten. Fingers crossed here.
B.Stover, I have to tell YSAS about Macbeth and his intro. He will enjoy it. YSAS and SO were invited to five different parties around NYC. What to do? What to do? How about going to urgent care for SO and finding out she has walking bronchitis that was causing her lungs to spasm. YIKES!
10:31 am on January 1st, 2013
Phooey!
I had a big problem last night. Mommy says I just shouldn’t think about these things. First Liz was from tomorrow. Huh? Then last night she was from next year. Whispering (I think Liz is a space alien.)
10:31 am on January 1st, 2013
While talking to The Royals’ last night they mentioned the Celebration of Life party. Ummm, I am sorry to say that I had a brain skip and didn’t know about it. I went back and read it this morning.
Riö? Well said.
Thank you all for your all of your remembrances. Good times and Hard times are good to remember.
Bella? I remember the Raven asking you about that carrier and you talking about an engine falling off. He thought that was great.
Kat? You were as gentle as a new born puppy.
10:35 am on January 1st, 2013
Sam, you could be correct . . We’ve never seen a picture of LizF, only a companion she calls “Cricket” and that picture didn’t look like any cricket that the Pack has hunted.
Tupper, of course, you could hear those fireworks. Your ears are beautiful and amazing.
For those of you in the bathroom, shower, or on your rents beds. Franklin joins you. He does not approve of anything like that! He crawls on Zoë’s lap. Thank Dog, no fireworks here! Patsy would NOT have approved of Franklin being on my lap and would have joined us. Whew.
10:38 am on January 1st, 2013
That is it from me for awhile. I am picking up Jesse and then coming back and resting. Pinky swear. I am going to read a book. One of those you pick up and have to turn the pages! Woo Hoo! And I’m going to have a heating pad, and hot cocoa, and Patsy by my side and Franklin by my feet . . that reminds me . .

I have found the SOLUTION to dogs on the bed.
My only problem is figuring out how to get nine of them around the bed.
10:43 am on January 1st, 2013
That picture has got to be from Pottery Barn for Kids!

Hi Kandi!
And may 2013 be joyous and prosperous and fabulous for one and all.

Happy New Year’s Day Everyone!
The daytime high temperatures in Willow, Alaska, have been running higher than our daytime highs. As much as I like the weather here right now, I’d be willing to trade the Snowhook dogs. They need lower temperatures.
Maggie, Hiding in the shower or bathtub is not that uncommon. We have heard the stories at the dog park.
Congratulations to Macbeth!
11:12 am on January 1st, 2013
While New Year’s Day is a day of renewal, it being the first day of the new year, it is also a day of traditions, at least here in Chevy Chase. Like smoked salmon and bagels for breakfast. Or reading the annual “In and Out” list for the start of the new year in the Washington Post. Unfortunately, as we age, our familiarity with the various items listed is less and less. For example, who even knew who Honey Boo Boo is? (Who, by the way, is listed as “out”.) Finally, there is the lighting of the bayberry candles for good luck.
11:20 am on January 1st, 2013
WD – we have no idea what a Honey Boo boo is, but we have heard the name enough and gagged at its cutesy factor to want it gone.
As to Macbeth, yea, yea. Congrats and all that stuff.
(Whispering – we think the RNG is prejudiced against small dogs. Right, Rio and Sammie?).
We are putting Callie in for next month. Maybe we should decorate her all in little valentine hearts…..

11:25 am on January 1st, 2013
Greetings and Happy New Year to Everyone!
May 2013 bring peace, happiness, health, success , prosperity, and continued good friendships to us all!
11:27 am on January 1st, 2013
T&G , Callie is adorable. Please do enter her in the FOM.
11:35 am on January 1st, 2013
Melanie – Mama says you only have to buy ONE of those beds – just give YOUR bed to the 9 Newfs, and you can curl up in that nice, cuddly drawer unit top.
tee hee
11:35 am on January 1st, 2013
Callie, Mom says that is one very kissable nose.
We have never heard of lighting bayberry candles for good luck, but that sounds like a winner. We do know about eating blackeyed peas for good luck on New Year’s Day. That might be a tradition from the American South.
11:43 am on January 1st, 2013
Parade!…After a good-luck breakfast of bacon and toast I am watching the Rose Parade while someone else is working on another special project…sneeze!chew!
11:55 am on January 1st, 2013
SiberH — I think the bayberry candle thing is from New England. Maybe Melanie or Amalia would know more about it.
12:00 pm on January 1st, 2013
Happy New Year!
Last night I got this picture of the torch parade. The lodge that faces this ski trail has three floors and decks all around and they were all jammed with people so this picture was taken from ground level.

12:03 pm on January 1st, 2013
This picture is for Staff but you can all look at it.

12:06 pm on January 1st, 2013
I just looked up Honey Boo Boo….I wish I hadn’t.
12:12 pm on January 1st, 2013
Melanie: I hope SO is feeling better. I had something similar once and they gave me antibiotics and steroids.
Lovely pictures Mollypop’s Mom, though I don’t think Tenzig would like the second one.
12:12 pm on January 1st, 2013
We don’t know the origin of the Bayberry Candle – we first heard about it from a Swedish woman. She told us that we had to light a bayberry (taper) candle, and let it burn until it was gone. She always put the candle holder in the sink, so there was no chance of it causing trouble when they went to bed, or weren’t watching it.
Right now Mama is bugging Dad to drive to Brooklyn. There is a 1 year old Corgi for adoption, because his owner is being deployed to Afghanistan…..sniff, sniff……
12:12 pm on January 1st, 2013
Happy New Years to everyone!! Mom and Dad stayed home and slept from about 8 until 11:30. Then they woke up to see the new year come in. Mom just let us catch up on yesterdays postings. Sounds like everybody had a much more exciting New Years Eve than Mom and Dad did. Mom says it is a product of “being a certain age.”
Wookie’s Mom and Dad, thank you so much for continuing to share stories of the “most interesting dog in the world.” (love that description of him!) We all miss Wookie very much.
Mom is working on the budget and pondering her next donation to the Snowhook cause. Looks like it will be a split between the bootie fund and a dog sponsorship donation. Staff and OHs, please check your SDDs shortly.
G&BB
12:14 pm on January 1st, 2013
Wow, T&G! That is fantastic! How much fun would that be to have a third Corgi! Oops, then you would outnumber the wrotten kats!
12:16 pm on January 1st, 2013
Thank You Mollypop’s Mom. Both pictures are lovely. Especially the second one. I do love fireworks.
Now that I have figured out I am lactose intolerant and I have not had milk for seven days I am starting to get an appetite again. I am already hungry and it is only 11:15. Oh dear.
Hello Odin (and Kandy) and all the rest of the usual plunderers.
I hope Macy doesn’t have too much of a headache this morning. Sounds like she had too much likker last night. I wonder if Redbone Hound brought over some ‘shine’. hmmmmmm.
12:18 pm on January 1st, 2013
Gus and BooBear. I will be alert today….soon. heh
12:20 pm on January 1st, 2013
B. – The fireworks actually rumbled the ground under my feet. A friend of mine said she hoped all the deer and animals up in the woods on the ski trails weren’t terrified. It had to be awful for those creatures.
12:26 pm on January 1st, 2013
sniff sniff sob – did any one else just see the Canines with Courage float in the Rose Parade, and the special surprise?
sniff, sniff – Mama is such a sap
12:40 pm on January 1st, 2013
Staff and OHs, SDD sent and paypal payment made!
12:46 pm on January 1st, 2013
Here is something cool found on facebookie this morning:
Good NEW Year’s evening and welcome to Flight #2013. We are prepared to take off into the New Year. Please make sure your Attitude and Blessings are secured and locked in the upright position. All self-destructive devices should be turned off at this time. All negativity, hurt, and discouragement should be put away. Should we lose altitude under pressure, during the flight, reach up and pull down a Prayer! Prayers will automatically be activated by Faith. Once your Faith is activated you can assist other passengers. There will be NO BAGGAGE allowed on this flight. The Captain has cleared us for takeoff ~Destination ~ GREATNESS!
12:48 pm on January 1st, 2013
NO BAGGAGE! Oh oh.
12:50 pm on January 1st, 2013
Courage!…I saw that Tupper…snort!…I’d like to sniff some of those floats up close….wheeze!
12:50 pm on January 1st, 2013
Gus&BooBear, I know this is from some time ago, but did you get your Kindle fixed?
12:53 pm on January 1st, 2013
Staff: I say this from the safety of the shower, I still love you even if you love fireworks.
12:55 pm on January 1st, 2013
SiberH, Yes we did. We called customer support and learned how to reboot it. We have not, however, learned how to efficiently use the Ipaw that Mom and Dad bought as a Christmas gift for each other!
12:56 pm on January 1st, 2013
B — we wish we hadn’t too; the only saving grace is the fact that we had to look it up because we knew nothing about her otherwise.
BSD — love it, love it. Our seat belts are securely fashioned here and looking forward to a smooth takeoff, clear skies and a great trip.
12:57 pm on January 1st, 2013
Tenzing took one look at MPMs photo and headed for his hidey-hole.
T&G: I say warm up the car, and have your mama tell the Storyteller she is going to run some errands.
12:58 pm on January 1st, 2013
Gus&BooBear, Glad you got the Kindle working. Your folks are braver than my mom…she doesn’t want to deal with an Ipaw.
1:02 pm on January 1st, 2013
Gus and BooBear – hope this New Year is a stellar one for your family. For ALL your family!
(and if you figure out the ipaw, you can help us figure out our new ipod, wireless printer and Windows 8 – gahhh!)
BSD – we love that flight announcement. When we get the new printer set up, we are going to print that out and hang it up where we can see it every day.
1:03 pm on January 1st, 2013
B & Wookie’s Dad: Honey Boo Boo…the GAG factor is Very high.
Reality shews have now reached a new level of lowness. We thought it was a joke…sadly it is not.
1:03 pm on January 1st, 2013
BSD: There seems to be more leg room on this flight. It looks like Rio is stretched out full length and has plenty of room for his curly tail.
1:08 pm on January 1st, 2013
SiberH, we have come to the conclusion that NOTHING is easy!! Mom and Dad can take the simplest task and it becomes a headache.
1:09 pm on January 1st, 2013
That makes us think of Kirby T! Wonder if his folks ever got that work on the house finished!
1:11 pm on January 1st, 2013
(whispering – Bella, Dad is actually the one warming up the car. When he saw that the doggie needed a home because his human was being deployed, he told Mama to stop everything and send an email to the adoption place. It seems that when Dad went to serve, he never found out what happened to his beloved dog. And that was one reason he fought getting another dog for so many years. He felt guilty. We just found this out – Dad doesn’t like to talk about his years in the service. So we have indeed sent an email explaining all that to the adoption place. This little guy is an adorable Corgi, so we are sure that there are many people lined up to get him, but Dad wanted to be sure that just in case there weren’t, this soldier could know for absolute sure that his beloved companion would be loved and cared for for the rest of his life.)
1:15 pm on January 1st, 2013
Gys&BooBear, It isn’t your mom and dad that are the problem, it is modern life that is the problem.
hmmm That Corgi in Brooklyn could’t go to a better home than the Royal’s.
1:18 pm on January 1st, 2013
Tupper&Gilly Your brave mama may be the first (?) of the Plunderers to venture into Windows 8 territory. We hope she gets it figured out soon. Always the technical problems on long holiday weekends. Sigh.
Good to know the little Corgi will have a loving home until his master returns.
SnowBella: First Class all the way. Nothing but the Best for the Plunderers.
1:24 pm on January 1st, 2013
Whooo Hoooo AGAIN!
The Shake your Booty fund announces another donation and we are up to 900.00 Yowser!!!

1:29 pm on January 1st, 2013
Kat sledding. Heh, heh.
1:31 pm on January 1st, 2013
Smoked salmon. We like that tradition. A lady that works for SIL Chad went to Canada, caught salmon, brought it back and smoked it herself. She gave Chad a package for Christmas. Chad won’t touch the stuff so Kelly gave Barb half. It was the best she has ever tasted.
Honey Boo Boo. Barb does not watch reality shows, but she does tune in Extra and Access Hollywood, for a comb of star triva and stories of public interest. Honey Boo Boo started on Toddlers and Tiaras we think. People were fasinated with her and her family so she got her own show. We saw her on Extra one day being interview (more or less) by Billy Bush. She was totally obnoxious to put it mildly. Her family is all southern country, but not in a good way. For some reason Barbara Walters named her one of 2012’s most fascinating people. Gah!
1:36 pm on January 1st, 2013
Booties!….Wow! It is almost half way funded…snort!snort!…This is a great way to start out the new year…wheeze!…I need to figure out a way to make some money. There has got to be a way for a pug to earn some greenbacks these days…wheeze!
1:42 pm on January 1st, 2013
Yawn…..stretch…..shake….alrighty then, let the day begin…at half past 12.
I would like to clear up a misconception pronto. The last post from our house last night was from BELLE, not me. I would never allow myself to get sloppy drunk and I certainly would not post in that condition. The girl has no sense of decorum.
This is my drink of choice. Our girl Niki brought it for us.

1:42 pm on January 1st, 2013
Staff: The cartoon reminds me of the saying that to try to get professors together to agree on something is like trying to herd cats.
1:44 pm on January 1st, 2013
Barb: “Fascinating” has various connotations.
1:46 pm on January 1st, 2013
I had a great comment that acknowledged eve atone and everything. It disappeared. Sigh.

Hopefully this one of my Bling Hat makes it. Glinka made it for me before her hands turned everything bad.
1:49 pm on January 1st, 2013
Royals: If your mom and pop need character references, I’ll be the first in line.
Booties! I just came back in from helping AJ bootie the team. The current trail conditions are hard on paws so AJ is taking care to make sure they are protected. Quigley reminds me so much of his pop, Howard. He laid on his back with all fours in the air and let me put booties on him. He then requested a belly rub and let me be on my way.
1:57 pm on January 1st, 2013
Gah!…My friend has to go to the store and its way freakin’ cold outside…sniff!…Just because someone else wants something for lunch….grunt!…So far this year doesn’t seem any different from last year….grump!
2:27 pm on January 1st, 2013
New year, same grumpy dog. heh-heh
We still have some of that boot rear, help yourself, y’all.
2:31 pm on January 1st, 2013
I just think Rio is protective of his Friend and gets grumpy when things don’t go her way.
Macy: I have frosty mugs chilling in the freezer. Would you like a dish or a mug?
2:33 pm on January 1st, 2013
Beau’s handsome pugshot is up top!
T&G: Please check your SDD.
3:03 pm on January 1st, 2013
Beau!…He has this new thing he does specifically to annoy everyone…grunt!….He gets up on the back of the chair in the living room and watches out the window for Kats…snort!…When he sees one he leaps off the chair with a mighty thump and then races through the kitchen where he slips and slides around the corner taking out his food and water bowl..grunt!…Lets just say a few who live here were not very pleased the first two times he did this…heh!…His bowls have been moved to the other side of the kitchen now…wheeze!
3:24 pm on January 1st, 2013
We are tired from watching all of our beautiful Christmas decorations taken down and carted to the attic. You have no idea how tiring it is to watch the rents go up and down, up and down all those stairs. And now our home looks so plain.
Meantime, our traditional New Years Day pork and sauerkraut are cooking away in the crock pot. Yummm. Every single person we know in this county is having the exact same dinner today. We also will be having blackeye peas, because Mom read once that it is a New Years tradition in the south and since blackeye peas are her favorite food, she decided to borrow that tradition too.
MPM, we love the photos of the torch skiers and also the fireworks. We would love to live where you do. But we think it is a shame to subject wildlife to scary fireworks. Heck, they don’t even have a bathtub to hide in.
We have heard the name Honey Boo Boo but never had any desire to know who or what belongs to such a name.
BSD, we are ready to board Flight 2013.
3:28 pm on January 1st, 2013
T&G, what was the surprise on the Canines with Courage float? We didn’t watch any of the Rose parade…watched the Mummers instead, until that local channel’s sound went awry.
We really hope you get to adopt that soldier’s corgi. Yours is the best corgi home in the world.
Oh, and Callie is looking good. Kat told us all about her and how she showed Kat all the good digging spots.
3:33 pm on January 1st, 2013
ATTENTION: Charlie of the floppy ears is now 1/5 the way to being a Plunderer-sponsored racer! WOO HOO !

3:38 pm on January 1st, 2013
Callie did show Kat all her special digging spots. The two of them were out in the yard, up the hill, and having what looked to be a deep conversation with snoot pointing. Like two partners in crime.
3:44 pm on January 1st, 2013
We just stopped for a rest on our run right now. My Lady put booties on my paws this morning. She also gave me ear strokes and snuggles as she did so—I love that about her. She know the best way to give a snuggle and care for my ears. The Giant knows the best way to play.
I am honored that Professor Stover would wish to start my sponsorshiip. I will do my best to do her proud what with my earodynamic ears. Say, Professor, do you ears look like my ears? Is that why we are so fond of each other?
3:54 pm on January 1st, 2013
Charlie: Your ears are much more beautiful than my ears. I can’t run as fast as you do either.
3:56 pm on January 1st, 2013
Bella, I will have a dish please. Belle would like one too, with an aspirin crushed up in hers.
3:58 pm on January 1st, 2013
Dear Giant and Bella, If I could make the weather go to the west I would.
Hmm, I see that my fingers weren’t doing very well on the iPaw earlier. Snicker. Not sure if it will get any better. I’m at the big computer now and able to use the keyboard. Goes a lot faster that way.
Anywoof, Jesse (in a very kind manner) said that I was starting to look like Cruella Deville and to stop doing things. I have been good and will continue this resting stuff through tomorrow.
I did not watch the Rose Bowl Parade, but I found a picture of the Military Dog float as it was being made.
3:59 pm on January 1st, 2013
B: My Lady says I still have yet to grow into my ears. Don’t you worry, I can run fast enough for the both of us.
Macy: Coming up!
4:26 pm on January 1st, 2013
Callie looks beautiful and Charlie is just too adorable. What great pictures.
The only person we can think of who deserves attention less than Honey Boo Boo is Kim Kardashian. She has no talent but gets soo much medial buzz. And now she and Kanye West (musician and film director, for Bee’s benefit) have announced that she is preggers. Another marketing opportunity for Miss K, who isn’t even divorced from the husband she split with after 72 days of marriage, and a mil + dollar wedding. Evidently the Twitter world exploded yesterday when they made their incredibly blessed announcement. Are we sick yet?
4:31 pm on January 1st, 2013
Barb, We are very sick of her.
4:58 pm on January 1st, 2013
splort.
4:58 pm on January 1st, 2013
Siber and B&M, we never ever understood her claim to fame and can’t wait til she is fat so we don’t hear about her anymore.
5:07 pm on January 1st, 2013
I think I want a bling hat.
5:33 pm on January 1st, 2013
Golinka!…Please check that SDD of yours. But don’t touch anything!…grunt!
5:36 pm on January 1st, 2013
Rebecca!…Golinka might not be around if she is chasing down a Corgie…sniff!…So will you check your SDD?
5:37 pm on January 1st, 2013
Stover!…I’d hate to think what your bling hat would look like if Stinky Mama tried to make one right now with her hands all out of whack…snort!
5:53 pm on January 1st, 2013
Glad tidings dear plunderers from the middle of the chilly mitten. Mom and I are hunkered down here in our warm and cozy apartment and have enjoyed a very peaceful entry into the new year. Mom has been sewing and completed a quilt top and matching pillow, and has started on a tote made with summer beachy fabrics.
Tomorrow is back to the real world at the busy place, but it probably won’t be really busy until next week, says mom. I say, you are leaving me alone!alone!alone! again!again!again! sob!sob!sob!
5:54 pm on January 1st, 2013
Rio: Checked! Yeep! Yes!
5:55 pm on January 1st, 2013
Mom and Pop are so bummed. After they have their New Years pork and sauerkraut (and mashed potatoes), all they have to look forward is going back to their dreaded offices. They are blaming each other for not playing the lottery during vacation. Pop’s last day at work was 12/21 and the last day Mom was at her office was 12/13 !!!! It was bliss, but now it’s time to pay the piper.
6:06 pm on January 1st, 2013
I wish we were having Oley’s dinner. That sound so good my mouth is watering. We are going to order a pig like the ones you get. An entire hog, split 3 ways.
Tomorrow Barb wants to make Hunter’s Stew or Cacciatore with one of our chickens. Does anyone have a good recipe? Siber?
6:08 pm on January 1st, 2013
Barb, we Howlers eat Hunters Stew quite often. heh heh heh
6:11 pm on January 1st, 2013
Even Barb gets bacon for dinner! Gah!
6:16 pm on January 1st, 2013
Ribeye!…Tonight ribeye steak is on the menu along with baked tators and some kind of vegetable, which will ruin the whole thing…sniff!
6:17 pm on January 1st, 2013
How much do pipers get paid?
6:19 pm on January 1st, 2013
Melanie!…It depends on whether they are Pied Pipers or not….snort!
6:27 pm on January 1st, 2013
MagPie – Barb’s not eating Peaches, is she?
6:34 pm on January 1st, 2013
Mollypop’s Mom. Bite your tongue. Peaches is not food! She is a pet!
6:37 pm on January 1st, 2013
Peaches!…I bet if Barb gets hungry enough on her diet she will think twice about having some Peaches for supper…heh!heh! bawwwk!
6:46 pm on January 1st, 2013
Peaches will never be eaten by anyone in this household. First, she is a pet and there is a law against eating anything with a name. Second she is not much over a pound “live weight” and third she would be a tough old bird. She will have to die of old age unless a hawk gets her.
Oley, we are looking for another kind of Hunter’s Stew.
7:03 pm on January 1st, 2013
Barb!…Peaches a la mode!…wooo!…Think about it!
7:18 pm on January 1st, 2013
Peaches wouldn’t make much of a meal for me and the Howlers then.
I’m just kidding. I remember a photo of Peaches. She is a cute chicken. I might as well say that because she sure isn’t big enough to eat.
7:27 pm on January 1st, 2013
Howlers – the surprise on the float was a soldier serving in Afghanistan jumped off the float to surprise his wife and little son in the audience. No dry eyes in this house.
Rio – must be synchronicity. We had steaks and taters too – along with salad. Never have understood humans liking salad. Lettuce is worse than wet paper for getting stuck to the woof of your mouth.
Next auction, Mama will make bling hats.
7:30 pm on January 1st, 2013
She better make more than 1 bling hat, T&G!!
7:34 pm on January 1st, 2013
My Lady was just out in the kennel scooping and giving love. She is a-damnit about the kennel getting cleaned twice a day. She told me I might not make the race team. I knew as much, but I didn’t know she knew as well. She, my Lady and I are the same, someone has to stay and keep the homefires buring. I don’t understand staying as was evident in my 2010 race and I’m not allowed to play with matches, but I understand I need to remain at the kennel and keep track of her. It is an important job.
7:38 pm on January 1st, 2013
Tonight we are having a similar dinner. Steak, salad, green beans and long grain and wild rice.
Changing the subject away from Peaches, Barb is reading The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton. She lives down under. I bet Liz knows her!
Does anyone else feel like it is Sunday night?
7:40 pm on January 1st, 2013
Sob.
7:43 pm on January 1st, 2013
There is a moose hanging out on the other side of the kennel. When I was out scooping, I looked at him, he looked at me. I hope he isn’t a grieving relative…gulp.
7:51 pm on January 1st, 2013
Barb, where are you getting your pig?
7:51 pm on January 1st, 2013
Prayers for YSAS. At Urgent Care. Having trouble breathing, throwing up and throat on fire. Testing for flu and doing a chest X-ray.
7:52 pm on January 1st, 2013
WhiteyLance, it is an important job to keep your Lady safe while the giant is away. However, if you decide to run like the wind, do it while the giant is looking so he will know you still have hopes to race.
7:53 pm on January 1st, 2013
OMD! Praying here, Melanie.
7:53 pm on January 1st, 2013
MagPie, we loved The Forgotten Garden.
Mommy wants a bling hat.
7:54 pm on January 1st, 2013
Goodness, Melanie! Please keep us posted on YSAS. Prayers here for him to recover quickly from whatever it is. Space under the quilt is always available.
7:59 pm on January 1st, 2013
Melanie: Please keep us posted and let YSAS know we are thinking of him. G&BB are correct. Space is available under the quilt, and Tenzing is on his way with gluten-free provisions. He said he will stay as long as is need and said he would be happy to be a pillow for OFAS (Our Favorite Actor Son).
8:07 pm on January 1st, 2013
Prayers for YSAS and please keep us posted Melanie.
8:10 pm on January 1st, 2013
Melanie, That sounds like what Barb got. Throat was so sore she had trouble swallowing. Seems to be a virus going around everywhere. Still coughing nonstop after a week. Brother in NC got it too, and his lasted over two weeks.
Oley, We are getting the pig from a locker in Woodstock. The people who raise them are in Pecatonica Il, about 30 miles west of Rockford. They raise beef too, and are extremely organic. We had heard of them when we were in Lena.
8:11 pm on January 1st, 2013
Hi all! A quick hello while I’m lurking. (Barb, yes, we know a lot of Kate Morton since i work at the Library, though haven’t met her personally!).
I just read last night about Wookie, and wanted to send my sympathies to his family. It was always such a pleasure to check in and see his posts, it’s just so sad to think he’s gone.
Damn, i miss a lot of stuff… Fingers crossed that YSAS is okay.
8:12 pm on January 1st, 2013
Strong Prayers are being sent to YSAS!
8:17 pm on January 1st, 2013
Hi Liz. It is very sad news. His dad is keeping us updated. I’m sure dear Wookie is whispering in his ear.
8:19 pm on January 1st, 2013
YEEP!…gasp!…YEEP!…sob!sob!sob!…YEEEP!…Clarkson better be getting the very very best urgent care….gasp!
8:22 pm on January 1st, 2013
Hi Liz.
Mom says we have to get ready for bed now. 4:45 is sure going to be tough after 2 1/2 weeks of staying in bed until 7:00 and even 8:00 one day.
8:26 pm on January 1st, 2013
4.45??!?! Better you than me, I couldn’t do that!
8:28 pm on January 1st, 2013
Liz!…Were you at the Sydney fireworks last night?…snort!
8:29 pm on January 1st, 2013
Liz: Please tell me you had the good sense to hide in the shower and not out there under the fireworks. I hate wated almost as much as I hate fireworks.
8:30 pm on January 1st, 2013
Water, not wated. Gah!
8:32 pm on January 1st, 2013
Dad took a picture of THEIR dinner. The four-leggeds got kibble with some black-eyed peas and canned food, ack.

The uke is dad’s Christmas present, note the peace sign in the sound hole.
8:34 pm on January 1st, 2013
Macy: My Lady is jealous. She loves corn on the cob and gets so little of it. She tried to buy it last summer—four cobs cost her $16. She considers it a delicacy of the highest order.
8:35 pm on January 1st, 2013
Golinka!…I replied to your experiment(s)..burp!…I am so very full right now. This does not happen often, let me tell youse. My friend gave me a lot of her steak tonight. I hope I don’t splort all over my bed later…groan!
8:40 pm on January 1st, 2013
Melanie. Please keep us informed about YSAS. We will definitely say a prayer for him here in Chevy Chase.
8:42 pm on January 1st, 2013
Thanks all. YSAS is being transferred to a hospital as I write this. SO put her foot down when they said to take him by cab. He is still splorting! Ambulance has arrived. Talked to him briefly. The wheezing is bad.
It’s going to be a long night.
8:43 pm on January 1st, 2013
Steak! Rio! You better do your best to keep it down! I always sit under my Giant when he eats. Sometimes, when he is eating meat, I try—try, try, try—to sit on his lap so he knows to give me any scraps before he gives anything to Luna. I love her, but come on!
8:47 pm on January 1st, 2013
Melanie: We are with you as long as you are awake. You are not alone and neither is YSAS. Since Zoe is stabilized, the Smoochers are preparing to deploy.
Kat, Sam, and Masquers: Can you meet up with Luna and Belle Starr pronto?
8:48 pm on January 1st, 2013
Barb and Howler’s Mom: Are you feeling better? I hope so.
8:55 pm on January 1st, 2013
Melanie, Does he have asthma? Or do you think he has phenomia? We will keep him in our thoughts tonight.
Oley, get to bed quick! Oh and tell your folks that the pig we are ordering is a Berkshire, like they get.
8:58 pm on January 1st, 2013
Yikes!
Prayers being said for YSAS.
9:00 pm on January 1st, 2013
Ready to go!
9:01 pm on January 1st, 2013
Worried!…Now I am a very worried pug who is ready to splort too…snort!…I hope they can get some fluids into Clarkson and stop the nausea…wheeze!wuffle!
9:05 pm on January 1st, 2013
It is good YSAS is going straight to the hospital. They will take good care of him there.
SO! Wasn’t she sick last night too?
9:06 pm on January 1st, 2013
Oh no Melanie. Do you think this is some sort of cosmic test of your strength? Yikes. Prayers going up from Minneapolis.
9:14 pm on January 1st, 2013
We will not be tested with more than we can bear. This includes Melanie with everything she has going on and Tenzing with fireworks.
9:17 pm on January 1st, 2013
Ready!
9:17 pm on January 1st, 2013
Melanie, let’s hope this is your #3 as in bad things come in threes, and you will be done for quite a while.
9:18 pm on January 1st, 2013
And, we’re off! Smoochers on three!
9:21 pm on January 1st, 2013
No fireworks for me, i was in bed before midnight! and sooo not Cricket’s thing, she’s with Tenzing on that one. But not the water, she loves it!
Here she is helping a friend fish last winter…
9:28 pm on January 1st, 2013
I won’t hold it against Cricket.
9:33 pm on January 1st, 2013
YSAS update,
They have him on an IV for fluids. Right now not worried about his throat or wheezing. Giving him a CAT scan to check for appendicitis. Could the Smoochers go down and do some PET and CAT scans of their own?
Macy, I’m praying that you are correct.
9:38 pm on January 1st, 2013
Fluids!…That is good news, at least….sniffle!…I am still very worried about him…wheeze!
9:45 pm on January 1st, 2013
Don’t worry, Melanie. We’ll take care of it.
9:47 pm on January 1st, 2013
Melanie: We are all here with you.
9:48 pm on January 1st, 2013
Macy, Is that chicken fried steak and black eyed peas? It looks delish.
Are YSAS’s symptoms similar to what SO had last night? We will check in later to see how he is doing, but are going to sign off. New Parenthood is on in a few.
Night noodle.
9:59 pm on January 1st, 2013
Clarkson!…He is young and strong, he has these big things going for him right now…sniffle!…He will make a full recovery, I just know it…wheeze!
10:06 pm on January 1st, 2013
I agree with Rio. Young and strong are always good things to have on your side. Right now it is just scary because we’re unsure about exactly what is happening.
Luna just sent me the following text: Tubes. A bit of coughing, some wheezing and a lotta splorting. Staying with r favorite actor. Tell others not to worry. YSAS is in r paws.
10:12 pm on January 1st, 2013
Nerves!…To calm my nerves I am watching a show that we never caught before…snort!…It is On Demand and called “Animal Practice”. About the crazy goings on at a large animal hospital. The first episode had two pugs in bit parts…chuffle!…Maybe there will be more. We are staying up for awhile and hopefully catch more updates on Clarkson so the second episode is coming up…wheeze!
10:13 pm on January 1st, 2013
Monkey!…Oh, there is a monkey as one of the main characters. We here love monkeys…heh!
10:35 pm on January 1st, 2013
Melanie!…Are you awake?…sniff!…Any news on Clarkson?…wheeze!
10:56 pm on January 1st, 2013
I hope Melanie can get some rest now. YSAS is in our prayers tonight.
Rio, Don’t get to liking Animal Practice too much because they have cancelled it. I read that somewhere, and the only reason I remembred it was because it had to do with animals.
Night All
10:57 pm on January 1st, 2013
Rio, he is about to or has gone in for his scan. SO had some of the same symptoms last night, but not all. She is with him even though she’s still sick. She let him know that he is in loving paws. He says thank you. He is looking around for specific canines and Kats, but though he knows they are there, they are well hidden.
He did laugh (quietly) when I suggested he had the rare Newf Flu.
11:03 pm on January 1st, 2013
Rio: Please check your SDD!!!
11:04 pm on January 1st, 2013
Melanie!…Thank you for the update…sniff!…Maybe you should go up and lie down with Patsy and rest your eyes…wuffle!…I am sure he will be much better in the morning, I just know it.
11:07 pm on January 1st, 2013
We are stacked five deep in a white doctor’s coat and a surgen’s mask. I’m on the bottom, then Kat, Belle Starr, Masquers and Sam. Princess Sam is our eyes and ears while we navigate the halls.
11:13 pm on January 1st, 2013
Stacked!…heh!snort!heh!…It’s funny, but it shouldn’t be….chorkel!
11:18 pm on January 1st, 2013
Luna, I am laughing here. It feels great to do so. No scan yet. The other white coats are leaning to appendicitis or a viral gut crap. Medical terms or so wonderful.
Rio, I’m imbed with the cell phone on my chest. I can feel it vibrate and don’t have to keep my eyes open.
11:22 pm on January 1st, 2013
Please tell YSAS to order some extra jello if he gets the chance. We’re starving.
11:24 pm on January 1st, 2013
Don’t let him drink any milk. I am glad the smoochers are on the job. They have been very busy lately. I didn’t know they could stack like that. Impressive.
We are going to get ready for bed now.
Liz I love the picture of Cricket helping with the fishing. I love the water too but I am stuck inside one of the most landlocked states of the US most of the time. Sigh….
11:26 pm on January 1st, 2013
I am thinking Luna must be very strong to be able to support Kat, not to mention the others. And Masquers! WOW. Don’t let Sam fall off. I am smiling here.
Nighty noodle.
11:27 pm on January 1st, 2013
Stacking took a fair bit of practice, but it was worth it. We just mastered it and had no idea it would pay off so quickly.
11:29 pm on January 1st, 2013
Staff: Truth be told, we only mastered stacking about twenty minutes ago. We felt it was worth the risk to give it a go for our YSAS. We’re taking every percaution and have velcrod each section of our stack to the next. I’d like to test this out in a wind storm, but I think it will have to wait.
11:32 pm on January 1st, 2013
Rest!…Okay, if Melanie is in her bed resting, I will go get in my bed to rest…sniff!…Wake me if anything bad happens though…wheeze!snort!
11:36 pm on January 1st, 2013
Rio: Nighty noodle to you. I’m waiting up for AJ and the team to come back from their training run. He was hoping for 80 to 100 miles today. Junior was with them.
Stormy Kromer Lurker: I hope you know who you are. Feel free to post any time even if it is late at night. I shared T&G’s story of meeting our lurker friend with SK. They thought it was great.
12:16 am on January 2nd, 2013
Dog, but its been a long day! We may be going to bed with the phone right next to us too. Melanie said she would call us if YSAS did have appendicitis and needed an operation. We don’t even know if they still do that they way they used to – used to be that at the first sign of appendicitis they would just do surgery right away. We think that there are now ways to treat a “hot” appendix that has not burst.
But we would really prefer that he has the flu or something else that isn’t nearly as dramatic.
And at this point we figure that no news is good news….
Mama has spent the evening trying to learn Windows 8. It is the strangest, most unfriendly platform she has ever worked. But she is taking a one on one tutoring session on Friday – hope that helps.
12:29 am on January 2nd, 2013
Mom says that in her opinion every new version of windows has been like a different breed of dog, different in some ways, but still dogs. Windows 8 is a hippo, nothing like a dog except they are both mammals. Good luck, Amalia!
Good thoughts for YSAS.
Nightly pasta
Macy out
12:31 am on January 2nd, 2013
If that darn mutt has to use MY iPaw I wish she would at least dog off!
12:33 am on January 2nd, 2013
Pasta! This late at night? I have to admit, I am a bit hungry, but not as hungry as AJ and the team who just arrived home from doing 80 miles through warm conditions, rain, sleet and a blizzard.
Night to all youse.
12:57 am on January 2nd, 2013
hello – thank you for saying hello. i do like my stormy kromer hat and enjoy your blog
1:03 am on January 2nd, 2013
Hello Stormy Kromer Lurker! I hope your first day of 2013 went well.
YSAS has just gone in for his scan. The place is packed. He likes his audiences that way, but not the hospital.
2:25 am on January 2nd, 2013
Gah! I can’t believe I missed our SK Lurker saying hello and news from Melanie about our favorite actor.
Melanie: I have a long-standing philosophy that there are only so many people that should see me in a hospital gown during my lifetime. I met my quota long ago.
2:42 am on January 2nd, 2013
Just heard from SO. YSAS is being admitted to the hospital. Bella, looks like the dreaded gown.
He has a viral infection in his gut.
I am really going to sleep now.
7:03 am on January 2nd, 2013
Melanie, sending strong prayers out to YSAS. Even though he may not see the Smoochers, their healing power is great, and their healing power is great. They will not let him out of their site.
After almost 2 weeks off, it is back to the busy place. Ugh! The Prof is still sick.
