Congratulations Hubert!
The random number generator has spoken (East German Army surplus circa 1956, sounds a little like Werner von Braun, somewhat creepily) and it said: Hubert! A name you don’t hear every day. Hubert will be over in the special place for the month of Nov., and as soon as we get a mailing address (send to spence.quinn@gmail.com) for Hubert’s human companion, a signed and paw-printed copy of The Sound and the Furry will be winging its way.
Next month? This could be you! Just upload a photo to the Friends Gallery. It’s as easy as keeping your health plan if you like it.

Welcome Hubert.
Good morning all.
8:34 am on November 1st, 2013
Good morning. Hubert? Chet, are you sure the name was not Dima? That is a name you don’t hear every day, unless you read this here blog.
Oh well, Congratulatins, Hubert!
So long, Cruizer. I really wish you would have joined us out on this blog.
We had a bad bad storm today already. So therefore…Mom won’t let me out! Other than that, I’m feeling tip-top. I even figured out a way to con an egg at every meal. š
8:36 am on November 1st, 2013
Good morning, everyone! We hope everyone made it through another Howl-oween. We’ve been keeping mom busy this a.m. Rain stopped around 5 and sun is out today. Darah procaimed it a beautiful day by jumping into the pond then coming inside to shake š This means floor mopping š š Pookey turned her pink and brown nose up at breakfast. I, Lucy Lou, have been cuddly and nearly perfect as I help mom with the mop up and the towels from drying wet doge at 3 a.m.
-Pookey here, never believe Lucy when she says mean things about, she’s a brown noser, especially after digging.
MPM: Watchout for the wind today, don;t blow away! Hope thosse under the quilt feel better today.
Friday, November 1, All Saints’ Day. Have a fabled Friday all.
8:45 am on November 1st, 2013
Morning all. Congrats to Hubert.
Barb is going to crash on the sofa for a bit. Woke up every hour from midnight on, checking the time. Finally got up at 4:15 and went to Josh’s at 5:00. Now the kids are off to school and we have peace and quiet till 11:15 when Jack gets picked up. BBL
8:59 am on November 1st, 2013
B&M: Tell Barb that she sounds like a chicken running around with…grands. Rest while you can. Mom just looked out the window to see a butterfly on the butterfly bush, bet it’s not the most successful butterfly.
9:58 am on November 1st, 2013
Congratulations to Hubert, who looks like a very sweet dog.
And to Buddy and Odie on facebookie who are dressed for Halloweenie, which seems suspiciously timely.
HOH and Barb & Maggie: Maybe you can get naps today.
I’ll be working in the not-too-scary basement today, cleaning and putting plastic on windows.
10:06 am on November 1st, 2013
Oh…
And I might be chocolate covering some granola bars.
10:06 am on November 1st, 2013
Oh sure – Hubert is cute. But we’re ROYAL for pete’s sake!
Wet and wild weather out here today. The wind gave a whole new meaning to the term “flying squirrel”. We don’t think that particular little fuzzbutt was planning that trip. There was a distinct look of “What the….???” on his face as he blew by the window.
Ah well, the grocery store beckons.
10:13 am on November 1st, 2013
I suggested a prayer offering of thanksgiving and continued healing for our dear Nana. Does our regulare PST on Saturday work for everyone?
10:20 am on November 1st, 2013
Hmmm, if I’m awake I will be there. Problem with sleeping last night.
Does anyone over there in that rehab place know that Nana needs to hear some of the blog comments?
Rain, rain, wind, wind. Not a single T&T. The pumpkin has rolled into the grass. I am moving slow.
YSAS should hear something today or tomorrow about callbacks.
zzzzzzzz
10:21 am on November 1st, 2013
OH! This means that Dima is eating!
And congratulations to Hubert!
10:36 am on November 1st, 2013
Melanie, it isn’t easy, but I make sure I leave a lot of food in my bowl until an egg is provided on top.
I will try to be here at PPT (PST?) tomorrow. It may be hard for me to stay awake, because my sisters and I are going to an Open House at MaPaw Sibe Rescue. First off, why would they open up a house? Secondly, is Mom serious about making some trades????
10:47 am on November 1st, 2013
Congratulations to Hubert!
I hope YSAS hears somethng soon and it is postiive. He is a very good actor. They should hire him.
BelleStarr, Yes, that time works very well for us.
Rio, Our plan worked also. We had no trick or treaters except the one kid we invited.
They are having a bacon festival in Albuquerque this weekend. One of the foods featured is a bacon butterscotch pie. Mom won’t take me…says they wouldn’t let me in the door.
11:01 am on November 1st, 2013
SiberH: Bacon wrapped granola bars was my second choice.
Nana: I have a Saturday night date with the card players but I will be saying Plunderer prayers before I go and when I return I’ll catch up with the blog prayers.
Dima: Every day is egg day – niiice.
I think I know why kids don’t go trick or treating up here. It’s freezing @$$ cold! (Even though it’s warmer than normal)
11:15 am on November 1st, 2013
I had a brilliant idea, chocolate covered bacon! I googled it and it has already been done, lots.
11:29 am on November 1st, 2013
Dawson, I like all your bacon suggestions.
Macy, Do you have water yet?
11:32 am on November 1st, 2013
Dawson, Why did you say you didn’t want to buy candy from those 3 large companies? I am sure there is a good reason.
Barb did get a little nap and feels better.
11:39 am on November 1st, 2013
B&m, We don’t know about the other two, but Hershey used to be a big, local candy company. Then they moved to mexico.
Bacon-wrapped anything sounds good to us.
11:53 am on November 1st, 2013
Finally did the Wolf puzzle. We figured we should be able to do that one lickety quick, but it was not in the cards.
11:55 am on November 1st, 2013
Barb&Maggie: I like to spend my money at local, independent or small companies rather than large corporations, if possible. (I am trying to wean myself off m&m’s.)
12:41 pm on November 1st, 2013
The Howlers have been sending in all these lame book titles. I just sent in the Winner.
tee hee !

There was just a shooting at LAX. People injured, one TSA employee killed, reportedly, and gunman shot and killed.
1:07 pm on November 1st, 2013
Barb is correct. For you who have been to LAX, Terminals 2 and 3 were involved. It was at 9:30 a.m. PDT (12:30 EDT). many injuries. Gah, what is wrong with people?
1:16 pm on November 1st, 2013
Belle Starr: Right about now we think we need to be truly thankful for our 3rd place, our other family and agree with you about time tonight… usual 9 eastern, 6 pacific or something else?
1:29 pm on November 1st, 2013
They are saying the gunman shot and killed one TSA officer, and wounded another. Gunman was shot, but now they are saying he is in custody, not killed as previously reported.
1:41 pm on November 1st, 2013
Yesterday was my first Halloween ever and boy was it a lot of fun, fun, fun. Mom made me a Halloween bandana for the occasion, so I was appropriately attired. We probably had about 125 kids, which I understand is actually down somewhat from Wookie’s Halloweens, but there was still lots for me to do in terms of meet and greet. It did rain part of the night, which may be why the numbers were down, but it didn’t deter the real diehards. We are also famous in the neighborhood for giving out full size candy bars, none of which had even a touch of granola.
1:48 pm on November 1st, 2013
Hey Teddy RR. Sounds like you are doing an outstanding job as Halloween greeter. I started out in that capacity, but I pulled too much on my leash trying to get closer to the kids. Barb’s arm was getting sore, so I retired early to the bedroom.
I forget, did your dad read the Anne Hillerman book yet? Barb is about half way thru with it and is enjoying it quite a bit. Hopefully she will continue with the series. It sounds like she intends too. Reading the book is like revisiting old friends.
1:57 pm on November 1st, 2013
Barb had a bad experience two weeks ago when she flew to Kentucky. The female TSA agent went thru all of Barb’s things and was questioning letting her carry a hair product on board.
Barb tried to lift it up to show her that there was just a small amount in the bottom of the container. She ripped it out of Barb’s hand, and shouted in a very mean voice “I TOLD you not to touch anything till I am done!” It was a little unnecessary. Barb does not look like a dangerous person, just a gray haired older person, who obviously does not do a lot of flying. Barb got a little huffy, but decided not to make a scene, since the TSA agent was the one with the power and would have probably strip searched her next.
1:57 pm on November 1st, 2013
Dima, Pookey here. Like your idea about the eggs. When I get persnickety about food, they give me chicken and yogurt bur shhh. Don’t let the cat out of the bag š
Nana: Get thee better and get thee to a computer.
Dawson: We like the buy local but sometimes we just craaaaaaave something imported or out of season. Mmm a will power issue?
Siber H: Entire HOH is in on a bacon festival. Think we could put on disguises and get through the door?
2:00 pm on November 1st, 2013
Barb: Try flying with the name “Sharon” since 9/11. TSA thinks it is sha RONE! Have never been passed through, always “randomly chosen” š
2:08 pm on November 1st, 2013
Teddy RR: Sorry it took us a while to say: You are one super pup to handle Howl-oween, a costume and meet and greet. Darah Thea thinks you are quite a guy!
2:09 pm on November 1st, 2013
TeddyRoughRider: I will take your parents advice on next year’s Halloweenie treats!
HOH: The price of m&m’s up here make it easy for me to resist. I didn’t bring any chocolate over the border last time I crossed.
I am having computer problems and (sob!) will be off line for a day or two or (horrors!) until Monday.
2:15 pm on November 1st, 2013
Dawson, you can’t leave us !!!! Sob.
Teddy, Congratulations. You got to greet 125 more Trick or Treaters than we did this year. In years past, we think they were all coming to see us us us. We love kids.
2:27 pm on November 1st, 2013
TeddyRR, Your house is the kind of house mom would have visited more than once on Halloween…an adorable Golden and full sized candy bars.
HOH Disguises might work or the two leggeds could bring us carryout from the bacon festival.
Dawson, We will miss you. Hurry back.
2:49 pm on November 1st, 2013
Dawwwwwwsonnnnn, where are you going? We miss you.
3:24 pm on November 1st, 2013
Did a bit of clean up in the garden. Now it is time for a movie.
Recommended by the Royals’ Mum . .
The Magic of Belle Ilse. Morgan Freeman, Netfix streaming.
Oh where, oh where has our Dawson gone . .
3:58 pm on November 1st, 2013
Oh where, Oh where can she be? With our snouts so short (for Rio), and our ears so long,Oh where, oh where can she be?
4:31 pm on November 1st, 2013
B&M: Tell Barb mom is cooking potatoes au gratin rouge, broasted smoked turkey breast and layered succotash. (French vanilla ice cream optional) P.S. It was really hard to get the turkey into the little papers.
5:25 pm on November 1st, 2013
Rio would say you guys are reading every other word.
Dawson isn’t going anywhere. She is having computer problems.
5:28 pm on November 1st, 2013
Siber H We’re singing in Howlr mony.
5:28 pm on November 1st, 2013
Our winds today were 42 mph with gusts to 50. Well, this was the day I planned to visit a friend who lives about 12 miles away. The problem was that she lives on Grand Island, a large island in the Niagara river near Niagara Falls, and I had to go over a big bridge to get there. Whooie! What a ride that was!
5:39 pm on November 1st, 2013
HOH, How do you make your succotash?
5:43 pm on November 1st, 2013
WE WERE TRICKED! AND NO TREATS! Mama asked us if we wanted to go for a ride – the answer to that is always “YES”. But we ended up at the groomers’ and talk about your Halloween horrors – THEY CUT OUR NAILS! SOBBBBBBB! Whimper whine….
And we didn’t even get a single stinkin’ cookie out of the whole deal, never mind anything bacon wrapped. It’s a conspiracy, that’s what it is.
Are there any more pitiful puppies than us?
5:44 pm on November 1st, 2013
oh for pity’s sake…..
6:10 pm on November 1st, 2013
We had a chicken stew. Very good.
We got through the first half of the movie. We will be finishing it tomorrow.
Mechanical Engineer Nephew came over . . We now have one back seat in the Element. We can take a guest somewhere! It is folded out of the Newfs way.
He also closed the storm windows in the west wing. First time in two years.
“Ears so long . . ” must refer to Mr. Redbone Hound.
6:14 pm on November 1st, 2013
MPM, Be careful with those high winds!
T & G, I think I am scheduled for one of those nail thingies next week. I see a happy pill in my future.
Melanie, how was the movie? We love Morgan Freeman. Barb has the Liberace movie with Michael Douglas from Netflix. Probably too tired to watch it tonight. Fading fast after a sleepless night and kiddies all day.
6:16 pm on November 1st, 2013
T&G: Soooo sorry about the subterfuge. Sheesh!
B&M: Don’t do anything fancy. It is like mom’s folks used to do. Layer 2 parts limas, 1 part baby green beens (cheating), 1 part corn along with 2 Tbs. butter and h2o. Sorry, it isn’t gourmet, just tasty. mom doesn’t do creamed as she has milk issues š
Herb cats: Be glad ya’ll didn’t get baths heh, heh, heh.
6:49 pm on November 1st, 2013
Barb’s mom used to just do limas and corn with a little butter, but she loved it.
7:02 pm on November 1st, 2013
I’m endeavoring to stay awake.
MollyPop’s Mom, my brother is going to get those winds tonight. He’s in Maine.
GOOD NEWS!
Being a bit out of it, I finally got a card for Nana. Promptly forgot whereI put it, so I wrote her an email about Franklin and the cake.
I GOT AN EMAIL BACK!
“That’s a funny story. Leave it to ,Franklin! You made me laugh…thank you.”
How about that!
7:09 pm on November 1st, 2013
Woo Hoo to Nana – can’t wait til she feels well enough to be back here on the blog!
7:10 pm on November 1st, 2013
Wowser! Leave it to Melanie to get Nana to communicat…but she doea have some back reading to do!
7:19 pm on November 1st, 2013
B & M — my dad told me to tell you that he finished the book a couple of days ago and really liked it a lot. He too hopes that there will more, so that the Leaphorn and Chee (and now Bernie) legacy will continue for a lot longer.
7:33 pm on November 1st, 2013
We got water back about 2 am, which we knew because dad left a faucet on. So mom got up to visit the little room, and then the water went off again. Don’t know when it came back on, but was there this morning for the stinky 2 leggeds to have showers. They spent the day at a flea market about 30 miles from here, scouting it out as a possible site for the knife (fishing tackle, ukulele, etc) endeavor. Belle got to go. I did not.
7:45 pm on November 1st, 2013
Belle Starr wants me to confirm with everyone that the prayer offering will be tomorrow at 9pm EST. she says she is too busy smooching Nana to post on this here blog.
7:58 pm on November 1st, 2013
We will be here for the prayer tomorrow night.
Birthday parties for the kiddies tomorrow and then they will be here for a sleep over tomorrow night. Sunday morning the other grandma is picking them up and we will be back to normal. Yea.

Macy: That is a costume I like. Pancho is in charge of disguises for all our procurement missions. I bring other things to the table, but Pancho being in charge if disguises usually means I go disguised as Pancho. Oh, to be disguised as a horse disguised as a skeleton. No one would guess it was me, I’m sure of it.
8:23 pm on November 1st, 2013
Pancho and Lefty:: Ya’ll would fool everyone!.B&M: good luck with the grands tomorrow! Macy: We’d love to say you are all wet (seriously). Now we are about to fall over zzzzzzing so, nighty night.

Apparently, this place named after me has the best margaritas in the whole world…sniff!…She said she only had a couple…grunt!burp!

Our Lady started and finished listening to Sound and the Furry this week on her commute. She says she laughed and yeeped throughout the book. Bravo and head bumps to SQPA for a great story!
9:35 pm on November 1st, 2013
Rebecca!…You “listened” to it?…snort!… I had no idea there was already an audio version…sniff!…I have been BEGGING someone to get the audio versions – but no movement on that front yet…grunt!
9:39 pm on November 1st, 2013
Rio: Our Lady and the Giant treated themselves to a download of the audiobook last weekend. They drove to Fairbanks and listened to it on part of the drive. What were they doing in Fairbanks?—The Prospector, an outdoor retailer sponsored the kennel with an in-kind sponsorship. The Giant was able to get some necessities like socks, chore gloves and much needed coveralls for doing chores. We are very grateful the generosity of the Prospector. Wheeze!

Rio: It is very near where CHH lived. It is about a five hour long drive.
Our Lady sent Nana an email. She said Nana didn’t need to respond, but should know we here are thinking about her and she is loved.

Skeletor!….That Horse with the skeleton painted on him…wheeze!…That reminded my friend of a science fiction book (right up Melanie’s alley) she read many moons ago about skeletor type huge horses and the havoc that ensued…sniff!…Real Scary Stuff. Now I am tasked with finding out the name of that darn book….gah!
11:07 pm on November 1st, 2013
Book!…For Melanie!…snort!…I found the science fiction, or whatever category they put it into, novel…wheeze!….It is called, “Grass” by Sheri S. Tepper. Born in 1929 in Denver, CO…heh!heh!…I knew I would find that book. Someone here has forgotten most of it except the Horse-type characters. I have to believe the skeletor look reminded her of the book for some reason…snuffle!…There is Colored Grass!…sneeze!…It was intricate and scary, that is all she remembers…heh!
11:20 pm on November 1st, 2013
Truth!…In truth, and I just found this out, there are other “scenes” my friend remembers, but she does not want to give away anything in case Melanie or other adventurous sci-fi readers want to find out what happens in this book for themselves…wheeze!….Don’t blame my friend if you can never really “forget” it…gah!
11:23 pm on November 1st, 2013
Lonely!….As per usual, no one is around to talk to….grump!….Goodnight!
