Congratulations George! February Friend of the Month

“The random number generator – when’s the insurance appraiser coming by the way? – has done its work, and here is George, Chet’s new Friend of the Month,” Spence says. “George will be over on the right for the whole month – where Eleanor is now – and as soon as George’s human companion sends a mailing address to spence.quinn@gmail.com, a signed copy of The Dog Who Knew Too Much will be on its way. And all anyone has to do to enter is upload a picture on the Friends of Chet gallery. The random number generator – didn’t catch your answer on the appraiser question – does the rest.”

“Grump,” says Admin.

Welcome Buster and Bijou.

Good morning Staff. Do you have Wolfie’s address from the toffee? You should be proud of yourselves after that fund raising yesterday!

Chet, tell Admin and Spence that Barb might be able to help with the home insurance questions.

Congrats, George. You look like a friendly fellow.

Hope Melanie, Amalia and Leonard are having a nice breakfast.

Hi George – we have always liked your picture in the Friends section. Nice to have you as FOM.

Amazed – we are just amazed at all the great works from this here blog. Congrats to all the teams!

Auntie Melanie was here this morning. She gave us scritches and took our pictures. She took pics of those Wrotten Kats too – we have NO idea why – who would want to see THEM?

She is going to look so beautiful for the upcoming wedding. (whispering – don’t tell her we told you, but she has lot a bunch of pounds, and didn’t really see just how beautiful she is. Mama made her try on clothes that were LOTS smaller – and they fit! So, all you fashionistas out there – breath a sigh of relief – Melanie will NOT be wearing jeans and a sweater to her new DIL’s shower. She is going to be the Belle of the (casual) Ball!)

Thanks pug, now we just have to let some bananas cure.

Mom just took me for a walk around the block. Usually we just go to the end of the street and back, but this was the full 1 mile+. That may not seem like a lot to some of you, but for us it was a mini marathon. If mom will just scooch over a little, we can both sit in the recliner and “read” (code word for napping, usually).

So, now that Mama is out of CLL, she will share with you some of her pearls of wisdom that she would dole out to her members. And for some reason, they STILL liked her.

NO ONE, in the history of gyms, has ever lost a pound by chatting with the other women while slowly strolling on the stepper machine. No one!

There is only one way to lose 10 pounds before this weekend – food poisoning.

If a workout is going to be effective, it has to be hard, and you must break a sweat. IF you are relaxed and having a good time, you are at brunch., Now get to work!

“Recovery protein bar with antioxidents”? Bull sh__. Its a CANDY BAR!

Nope, we don’t know why the members were sad to see her go either.

Howdy all. My mom has recovered from her long, long travel and work day yesterday. She slept 10 hours last night, then came home early today to be with me, me, me! We are toasty here in our little apartment in the middle of the mitten and every now and then she will give me a little skritch on my ear or my tummy just to tell me again how wonderful I am. Ah…what a life.

The problem with losing a lot of weight is that there is a distinct lack of clothing stores up here. Fairbanks has Sears, WalMart and Fred Meyers. Pitiful. I am also now trying to occasionally get my hair and nails done in Fairbanks and it is real expensive. Would this be another reason to consider moving someplace else? So far on my “pro move” list are: weather, utility & food bills, roads [to explore places], events & concerts to attend.

C Harris, A good place to show on the Internet is Coldwater Creek. They have an Outlet with great prices, up to 85% off. They sometimes have free shipping offers.

Staff, They had the special on NBC evening news about the Snowy Owls, but didn’t tell much, except that they are not sure why they are showing up in 31 states this winter. They did have some beautiful shots of them. They are spectactular, standing 2 feet tall, with a 5 foot wing span. Beautiful.

We love Sgt. Shultz. Melanie, what are you up to? Inquiring minds want to know.

Jasper has a new little friend! A T&G- type friend…what could be better?

Our weather here is very Spring-like. Today it was 60. When we stopped by a neighboring farrm for eggs, the farmer said that Mother Nature has a way of evening things out. He is predicting a late, long winter. We are twirling with that news but Mom just says Carpola.

  71. Kirby T. Penworthy

Hey, y’all! Mom and Dad are home from work and all is well!

CHarris: As far as I’m concerned, your why-you-should-move-down-south list could have stopped with the first entry! It only snows here about once a year, and even that’s one too many times for me! I really HATE getting frozen underbits — don’t you???

Rio: I’m afraid Mom’s send-some-Caramellos-to-the-Giant plan has hit a snag! She opened the extra candy bar (now how in the heck did that get in her basket?) and found that the back of the bar was all indented and the caramel appears to have leaked out. So not good! She took one bite and wrapped it back up. So now she has to take all the bars back and see if she can find them in another store. Grump!!!

Mel-an-neeeeeee? (said in the questioning/correcting way Bernie warns Chet off) – do not even think about that plaid thing! Plan B is “B”etter Not Try It!
And you ain’t seen nuthin’ til you’ve seen a size 52 spandex mini skirt. In gold lame`. One more example of “just because you can get it on – that doesn’t mean you should wear it”.

You, my dear, have just BEGUN to experience the wonderful world of womanly wears. Just wait til Mama drags you off to the outlet mall. You know that she can SHOP!

CHarris – there is no such thing as a “bad thing about losing weight”.

Jasper – that baby Corgi is awfully cute. For real? Are you getting a baby sister or brother?

Rio – what about that new arrival that you were talking about the other day? (Hope your friend is feeling better from that head cold)

Why do we keep hearing the Pink Panther theme when we think of the Pack on a Secret Mission?

Zoe and I enjoyed the VW dog commercial too. Nice to end the day with something fun.

And speaking of ending the day. Oh wait, I was able to sneak a peek at two new types of pots that the Royal Mum is working on. Terrific!

How nice to have the Royals around so early in the day!

But, now we’ve lost Staff to another Busy Place and you all know my dream time comes earlier than the average bear.

We have not yet caught up with the first season of Justified, a very addictive show.

Bryan Cranston is going to be directing an episode of Modern Family. We were reading that he played the father on Malcom in the Middle, which we have seen, but never realized was him. The character he portrayed on Breaking Bad was so radically different than his usual roles, we continue to be astounded at the depth of it. He not only acted, but looked, like a totally different person.

I am thinking that I’d like to live in a place with four seasons. Oregon rained for 9 months, California had sun for 9 months and I already know what it is like to have snow for 9 months. Also of critical importance is that there can be no mosquitoes in the summer or any biting insects (for some reason they love me).

C Harris, What about something along the south-east coast? Or near there. Kentucky, Tenn, the Carolinas? North Carolina has a tiny bit of winter. Not sure what their bug situation is. Then there are some area in the west that might fit the bill like Arizona, or Colorado. Nevada probably has some super real estate buys right now. So many possibilities!

Gosh CHarris you can’t come to the midwest then. Lots of mosquitoes here. I remember Denver hardly had a one. Maybe you can go live with Rio and his friend.

It took me forever to get home, feed the parents and catch up with the blog. I wonder if Team Bootie can match the Food team with food? Do you think AJ would like ginger snaps ala Dawson? Pondering here.

CHarris – the ultimate four seasons are here in the Northeast. Upper New York state has lovely seasons, is pretty dam cold in the winter, is temperate in summer and has few mosquitos than the more southern states.
There are parts of Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts that might fit your desires too. Melanie’s area in the hills is MUCH colder than we are just 20 miles away.
And the fall – oh, the colors of the fall in New England. Azure skies, red and orange sugar maples, and purple hills in the background.
Almost makes it worth dealing with the snow…..well, almost.

And just think – if you moved here, you could go to the outlet malls for those dreaded female underpinings with Melanie and Mama

I left work early because of the bad weather. I drove through a blizzard, whiteout conditions, freezing rain, black ice and wind. I am so glad to be home. I wonder how long it will take for the color to get back in my knuckles.

Team Feed the Giant: The Giant is in town for work today. I will have to wait until he gets home to ask about his dietary needs and preferences. He will be driving through the same bad weather as I did.

Jasper: Does that little gem have a name?

I think Franklin may have blurred over some of Melanie’s lost pounds with the cheesecake for the last race.

It took me over 5 and half hours to get to work that day. She began that fine lesson with: We love you for your loyalty, we admire for your dedication, but don’t do a bonehead thing like again.

Tupper and Gilly, so THAT’S why Mom’s workouts don’t work!! And are you SURE that those aren’t protein bars? Well, damn!!!!

What mission are those Newfs on? Rio, surely Secret Agent Wookie could find out for the rest of us.

Kirby, we meant to tell you what a great ebay story that was. Mom’s isn’t that special. The house she grew up in had a small round window in the front. There was a figurine of Bambi looking back at a butterfly on his tail (you all know that pose). Well 4 kids growing up and playing with Bambi meant many breaks and fixes until he could be fixed no more. After the parents passed and the house was being cleaned out, Mom searched for Bambi. No luck. He had been tossed at some time (surprising, since nothing else in that house was ever thrown away.) Mom found the exact Bambi on Ebay (same size and type). Evidently, someone else was looking for the same Bambi. Small bidding war and Mom paid $100 for the same Bambi that her mom had probably paid $2.50 for! Money well spent. She smiles everytime she looks at it.

Ahem, Rio! We picked up a package of 6 full size Snicker bars as a start of our Feed the Giant package. Waiting to hear what type of jerky he prefers. And we are on a search for Carmelo bars.

Macy – just think how far ahead of those folks your Mom is – she has had courses in filing and office stuff and all that. She has marketable skills and good experience.
Its kind of weird – airlines are packing more people into flights and making it harder and harder to fly – and yet they can lay off all those folks. Kind of makes you wonder if they needed all those people in the first place.
