Congratulations Fred the Turtle and Friend!
The random number generator (which we’ve just sent back to the shop) has spoken and – and it said, “Fred the turtle and his anonymous friend from the nation within.” So congrats to the duo, Chet’s May Friends of the Month. As soon as we get a snail mail (although this doesn’t seem like the time to be adding snails to the mix) address for their human companion a signed and paw-printed copy of The Sound and the Furry will be on its way. Fred and buddy will be in the special place over on the right for all of May.
Next month this could be you! Just send in a photo. The random number generator does the rest.
So many great pics coming in! Welcome new friends Zeus, Ozzie, Leon, Conan, Tuffy, Pepper from Iowa (cousin of Alice M. Johnson).

Good morning, and congratulations to Fred.
So long, Riley.
So much for Mom’s theory that a photo sent in at the last minute would win it. 🙁
8:16 am on May 1st, 2014
Good morning and congratulations to Fred and his friend.

The calendar says it’s May, but the thermometer wants to
argue. It’s COLD here this morning.
8:29 am on May 1st, 2014
Good morning, everyone! OH, just when we think we get OFA figured out, it changes 🙁 Congrats Fred and friend. Tyb, you are Johnny on the spot with this calendar and looks like a May Pole dance (sans the pole).
Happy May Day to all and to all a thrilling Thursday:)
8:30 am on May 1st, 2014
Congratulations Fred and friend.
I like Tyb’s May picture.
Good morning all.
8:30 am on May 1st, 2014
Love the calendar, Tyb. Mothers Day sure is early this year. We usually plant the rest of our garden by then, but judging by the weather today, May 1st, we don’t think that is going to happen.
9:17 am on May 1st, 2014
Speaking of calendars…are we still going to try and produce a Plunderer calendar with our animals in Chet-like poses (the back of the head)? If so, we need to think of seasonal photos. I have a great one of Sadie pondering snow on the deck. When we discussed the timeline previously, it seemed like we would have to make a decision in the summer to actually get it done in early winter for 2015.
9:24 am on May 1st, 2014
CHobbit, glad someone on this here blog has a brain. We’d furgotten.
Siber H, hope your vacation is moving right along and fun and relaxing.
West Coasters, survive the heat!
We’ve been told we are helping clean house today. Sheesh, what’s wrong with a little hair, and sticks, and grit, and leaves and??????
9:27 am on May 1st, 2014
Greetings!
Tyb, Thanks for the calendar page, and a wonderful picture of you!
Congrats to Turtleman Fred, and his dog!
CHobbit, Hope you are enjoying your trip and doing more exciting stuff.
Last year, Dawson and I were talking about the logistics of the Plunderer Calendar. I will still love to do it, but things like cost, who will be the final judge of what picture gets chosen, and all that other stuff seemed to be debated by some of the Plunderers.
9:29 am on May 1st, 2014
O’Howlers, How is Zeus doing? Is he comfortable in his forever home now, or are youse still calling him Blockhead behind his back?
Hey, there HOHs!
9:33 am on May 1st, 2014
Wose, He is still a Blockhead, because he does not realize that it is I, not he, who is in charge around here. Somehow, he got a few wires crossed, and thinks he is the Alpha. And Kat believes him!
Fortunately for em, he does love his naps. I believe he has once again fallen asleep on the floor of Mom’s office, even though she wants him to spend the finally-not-raining day outdoors.
10:24 am on May 1st, 2014
Turtle-Man!….snort!…Is this OUR Turtleman, Fred? Brother to Staff and Dawson?…sniff!sniff!
10:27 am on May 1st, 2014
Good Morning!
It is going to be another Hotter than yesterday Day here.
May Day, the 1st of May, & once again Thanks to TYB for the new Calendar.
Farewell to Riley and Welcome FOTM Fred & his Friend of the Nation Within.
Rio: Turtleman Fred…heh, heh…that’s funny.
10:28 am on May 1st, 2014

10:32 am on May 1st, 2014
HoHo!…Snort!

Hounds: You picked a Good One!
Once again…Where are Barb&Magpie? We are getting worrit.
10:47 am on May 1st, 2014
Last day in Turkey (Istanbul). Leaving tomorrow at 7:25a.m and arriving at JFK at 11:30a.m. There is a 7-hour time difference. For some reason flying west takes an hour longer–10 hours rather than 9. Gah. Cruised the Bosphorus today, went to a bazaar and had free time. I had left my credit card back in my room by mistake but that worked out well for me not to shop.
Hobbit on the move tomorrow. Now I am only worried about jet lag. Does anyone have any tips?
10:55 am on May 1st, 2014
Turtleman wins the book!!?!
He is a lucky dog.
11:19 am on May 1st, 2014
Hobbit,

That extra hour is probably because you’re flying against the wind. Here’s another photo a la Chet.
11:44 am on May 1st, 2014
O’H–I also tried the photo-at-last-minute thing yesterday, but I guess it’s nice to have a turtle friend.

HOH–Thanks for the good wishes, but at this point it’s not so much the heat as the winds (so, yes, it’s also fire season).
I love the pictures–all of them and look forward to a Plunderers calendar. I suspectthat Pretty, Edgar and Conan would also be on board except for the part where they have to sit reasonably still while I point the little box at them.
Hobbit–No tips for jet lag except to plan your schedule on return around getting over it. Don’t try to anything for a couple of days after you get home (I know–easier said than done).
Here’s a painting of Diogenes of Sinope with some of his preferred companions. He reportedly said “I am called a dog because I fawn on those/who give me anything,/I yelp at those who refuse,/and I set my teeth in rascals.” — Diogenes (c. 412-323 BC), also that “Dogs and philosophers do the most good and get the least rewards”
11:45 am on May 1st, 2014
Tyb, you are photogenic from any angle.
11:50 am on May 1st, 2014
FRED! The Turtleman wins the book. What a dork. grump. I will have to make sure he sees that. This is the second time Fred has made the top of the blog. snort.
11:56 am on May 1st, 2014
ala Chet!

12:04 pm on May 1st, 2014
Enough said
12:04 pm on May 1st, 2014
Mama Meash, Feh! We on this blog all know that you, you, you are in charge.
Zeusikov must learn his place in Howlers hierarchy.
12:05 pm on May 1st, 2014
Alice M., That is a great photograph!
12:06 pm on May 1st, 2014
OK I was going to post this when I was distracted by the Turtleman and Fred becoming FOM.
For anyone who still uses snail mail here is a link to free printable stationary. A Catty Librarian turned me on to this guy and I have been using his very useful site ever since. If anyone wants wolf stationary here is a link. I signed up for his weekly post and am not sorry.
http://www.freeprintablestationery.net/showcover/wolf
12:11 pm on May 1st, 2014
Alice: Wooo wolf stationary – thanks for the tip!
12:13 pm on May 1st, 2014
Diogenes the Cynic, who searched the world for a wise person among a world of fools…related or not to The Hermit of Tarot who holds the Lantern of Truth…he liked members of the Nation Within (and even claimed to be one) and that is good enough for us.
12:17 pm on May 1st, 2014
12:35 pm on May 1st, 2014
Me too!
I keep getting distracted.
Diogenes!
Thanks for that picture, DianeC. It reminds me to tell you I had the Indian-inspired cauliflower/potato/pea recipe two times since you posted it (I used a different version of the same recipe). It is delish!
Love all the pictures and I vote Wose for the calendar choices all the way.
There is too much happening here today. Inside, someone is ripping out the bathtub and surrounding area and outside the roses and lilacs are stilling waiting to be pruned. Outside it is.
12:53 pm on May 1st, 2014
Oh My Dog.
Rio is going to have a cow.
The FOE on facebookie is a goat….heh heh heh
12:59 pm on May 1st, 2014
OMD is right! or in this case OMG(oat)

1:01 pm on May 1st, 2014
Hmmm…looks more like a lamb.
Yes! We vote Rose to be in charge of calendar fotos.
1:35 pm on May 1st, 2014
Looks like a lamb to me, too!
RIO! You in the bag picture is upside down.
I thank youse that would elect me to pick the photos.
Awesome, would the plan we talked about last year still work? If you have no idea what I am talking about, probably means I don’t either. You can send an SDD.
1:43 pm on May 1st, 2014
Love the Chet-style photos! – Admin.
2:02 pm on May 1st, 2014
Thanks, Admin!
Wose: Photo is NOT upside-down on Our Computer (wonder what caused the differences in appearance on the different devices?)
2:03 pm on May 1st, 2014
I do not remember the plan. Will youse deduct points for my split ear?
2:15 pm on May 1st, 2014
Meashka: We here do not Remember the Plan either.
(Do-not reminded me of Donut…now I am Hungry)
2:15 pm on May 1st, 2014
Here’s our picture for the day. We call it “HOME”

2:34 pm on May 1st, 2014
Yay! Gramps is home with his good girl, Callie!
and Sage ? Basil?
2:36 pm on May 1st, 2014
Wow, if Admin likes the Chet like photos, then maybe that IS what the Plunderer calendar should be. heh!
2:36 pm on May 1st, 2014
a GOAT?!?! We got beat out by a GOAT???
What is the world coming to?
2:43 pm on May 1st, 2014
Awww. Callie looks like a happy girl! How did Gramps like the cleanliness thing? It’s not our cuppa, but there’s no accounting for taste. 🙂
2:45 pm on May 1st, 2014
Bear Spirit, Might you be having a cruller?
2:47 pm on May 1st, 2014
Awesome, When the pruning is done, check your SDD.
2:49 pm on May 1st, 2014
Alice M. and T&G,
Really like your photographs.
2:50 pm on May 1st, 2014
T&G: Great picture. I also see a pair of corgi ears in the foreground.
There is a white-crowned sparrow in my garden. He must be migrating south.
2:54 pm on May 1st, 2014
A goat and a turtle! Chet the Dog-no-more. (Next: a cat!)
Wose: Do I get any points for vaguely remembering there may have been a plan?
I suggest a new 2014 plan – planned by Rose.
I am busy
getting in the wayhelping with the remodeling, digging holeslandscaping the yard and getting out and about to have any brain cells (I am being rationed on the brain cells lately, I believe) left for calendars. I know my limits.2:56 pm on May 1st, 2014
Howlers – Gramp was pretty pleased by how nice his rooms looked. He says the whole house looks “shiny” – we think it is just because the rehab center has very dim lighting, and lots shadows from tall trees.
Last time we checked, he was stretched out in his recliner in the den, with Basil purring in his lap, and Callie curled up next to his chair.
Life is back to “normal”
2:58 pm on May 1st, 2014
Gramps home with Callie the Wonder(ful) dog and Basil!
3:00 pm on May 1st, 2014
Goat!…Nothing gets my goat more than a real Goat….grunt!….That is a little lamb – not a Goat….sniff!
3:03 pm on May 1st, 2014
Admin has good taste in fotos a la Chet!
Rio, the blue bag foto is upside down here too, but that shouldn’t be a surprise, right?
3:09 pm on May 1st, 2014
Wose: While Nana is Searching for a Chet-like Photo of me, I’m having a Chet-Like Snack. Why yes, it’s a cruller.
Hurray! Gramp is back home where he belongs. See the Big Smile on Callie’s face.
Dawson: Do we sense a state of confusion…too many projects perhaps? Relax, Enjoy the Day.
3:10 pm on May 1st, 2014
Bagged!…The bag photo is upside-down in my Pictures Directory, but it posts right-side up on Chets Blog…..heh!heh!…Wacky technology.
3:28 pm on May 1st, 2014
Staff has been busy busy busy this morning. She just ordered some western red cedar for the next two raised beds. They travel down to the big city (Fargo) tomorrow to pick it up at the M store.
Yesterday and today were deliveries from the guy who recovers her neat old furniture. Mr.Staffs recliner is looking good and plans are being made for recovering the couch to match the newly recovered chair.
Now she is thinking of calling the guy who paints tractors to have him paint her outside doors. After 15 years the sight of the steel grey is getting boring. She says a nice aqua will go with the almond siding and the dark brown trim. Oh and the spider webs all over the goshdarn front porch. I have never lived in a house that has so many spider webs on the porch. Staff doesn’t go out there much because of the webs and their spiders.
Now she says she has to go shopping for food. I don’t know why. There is lots of cat food here. Four different kinds. No more is needed.
3:36 pm on May 1st, 2014
Barb and Maggie have not posted since Monday night! We are very worrit. We will email Barb, but does anyone have her emergency contact?
3:37 pm on May 1st, 2014
We have sent an SDD to Barb and Maggie, and left her a phone mail to let her know she is missed. Maybe there was storm damage in her area, and she has to live with flashlights and candles.
Hope to hear from her soon.
3:40 pm on May 1st, 2014
No Barb number here. We are worrit too.
3:46 pm on May 1st, 2014
Spiders!…Staffie, my friend would spray Raid on them for you if she was closer….snort!….Kill Em’ Dead!
3:54 pm on May 1st, 2014
WooooHooo Fred. Friend of the month. Good work for a lurker who is just a shell of his former self.
3:56 pm on May 1st, 2014
TurtleMan!….snort!
Staff!….Be careful in Fargo!….wheeze!…There are some shady characters in that town. At least that’s the impression I get from watching that show called, “Fargo”…gruffle!
4:01 pm on May 1st, 2014
4:02 pm on May 1st, 2014
Who?

4:10 pm on May 1st, 2014

4:22 pm on May 1st, 2014
Don’t mess around with Fred!
4:25 pm on May 1st, 2014
Rio! Are you caught up with Fargo? That show is getting Better & Better. What a wonderful cast of characters (although we must add…not for the faint of heart)
4:30 pm on May 1st, 2014
Fargo!…We are really enjoying the quirky style. Those Ness Sons are hilarious….snort!…Did you see the show where they had Bow and Arrows?…chorkel!
4:33 pm on May 1st, 2014
Bear!…I thought at first the show was based off the same characters in the movie “Fargo”, but it cannot be because this happened in 2006….snort!…The movie came out in 1996. Fargo just has a lot of shady characters…heh!heh!
4:37 pm on May 1st, 2014
No Fargo spoilers please we have episode 3 on our DVR, but #1 and #2 will be recorded this weekend.
We love that Turtleman Fred!
4:39 pm on May 1st, 2014
Howlers!…Hurry and catch-up! It is hard not talking about that show…heh!heh!…I wonder if Staff talks like those guys in Fargo….chorkel!snort!….Alice probably has a Minnesoota Meow!…chuffle!
4:48 pm on May 1st, 2014
Heh, heh…Minnesota meow…Alice is that true?
4:51 pm on May 1st, 2014
Wonder if I’d like Fargo. Also wonder if it’s on On Demand.
4:58 pm on May 1st, 2014
Good to see Gramps home. It is looks like Spring here, but I don’t trust it yet. Three lovely purple plants planted for Melanie…from our Vet.
We are starting to put new joists in the basement. The ones in it are probably the ones put in in 1812. As our contractor said, “Don’t let any heavy people in your kitchen”. Old houses need care, like old ladies like me! Zoe
5:08 pm on May 1st, 2014
Hi Zoe!
5:09 pm on May 1st, 2014
Stover!…Yes it is OnDemand…snort!…There are 3 episodes so far. Can’t wait for the next one….heh!
Zoe!…Snort!
5:14 pm on May 1st, 2014
Zoe, tell those Newfs to tiptoe in the kitchen!
5:39 pm on May 1st, 2014
Woo hooo – we heard from Maggie and Lucy Ball – Barb is ok, just been very busy and is taking a little time for herself. Hope she will be back soon – its almost time for tomato advice.
5:58 pm on May 1st, 2014
Rio: Good. I’ll watch it.
6:12 pm on May 1st, 2014
Good for Barb. Mom put ‘maters in for the first time in 10 years, but not in the garden…in the front where there is sun and where DDD took out a holly tree. Plants are growing and 2 blossoms. May need Barb expertise soon.
6:14 pm on May 1st, 2014
Zoe: Your house is over 200 Hundred Years Old! That is simply amazing. Goes to show…those old houses were made very well, not like the prefab constructions of today.
HerbKats: We too hope Barb&Magpie&LucyBall will be back on the blog very soon.
B: We think you would like Fargo. Check it out On Demand and let us know what you think.
6:20 pm on May 1st, 2014
B: Oops, Forgot to Refresh. These page 2 refresher are a Bear.
6:20 pm on May 1st, 2014
Hi, Zoe!
Glad Barb & Maggie are okay.
Wondering about Wolfie, ML (my twin).
6:37 pm on May 1st, 2014
Hi Zoe. We would love to see those pretty purple plants.
We miss B&M.
6:39 pm on May 1st, 2014
Zoe: This old body could use a few new joists here and there.
Thank dog Barb is okay. I was trying to find her number…I must have it somewhere. (Good luck with that…)
Rose garden is well and truly pruned.
Lilacs are (more or less) pruned.
Back yard still a soggy mess.
I can’t find Fargo on my tv.
7:07 pm on May 1st, 2014
O’Howlers, Haven’t heard about the chickies lately. Everything okay in the roost?
7:41 pm on May 1st, 2014
Wose, those damn chickies are just honky dory. They keep getting more and more of our yard. Here is what the estate looks like nowadays. Fern’s rehab is the small coop out front.

7:59 pm on May 1st, 2014
O’Howlers: The birds are taking over! A bird is due to be picked FOM next.
8:15 pm on May 1st, 2014
Dawson, won’t happen since the POP has their foto in Chet’s friends.
8:25 pm on May 1st, 2014
So, our Hobbit will be back home soon. Siber is enjoying his camping trip. And now Mama tells us she is leaving town soon. How can that be?
Seems she and the Storyteller jumped on one of those computer glitch online price deals, where the airline has to sell the tickets for what they posted, even if the price was wrong. They got tickets to New Mexico for next to nothing.
But now, with Gramp needing some extra help, it has been decided that the Storyteller will stay here, and Mama will travel home to New Mexico by herself. She will be stopping by to see Siber and his mom on her way back.
We are just really glad for once that our breakfast and dinner is simple kibble. With the cooking skills that the Storyteller has, he and Gramp may be eating kibble right alongside us.
8:25 pm on May 1st, 2014
Fern would make a good FOM.
O’Howlers, is Zeus being a good boy around the chickens?
8:47 pm on May 1st, 2014
Still a whole week before SiberH gets home.
I’m glad Gramps is home in his nice shiny clean room. I do hope the Storyteller doesn’t burn the kibble while Amalia is gone.
8:49 pm on May 1st, 2014
Zeus’ collar has taught him the art of appreciating the chickies from afar.
Here is the photo Mom posted for Throwback Thursday. It is Misha Moonman and Sasha’s wedding. Pop is the minister, and Mom is the Organist/Church Lady.

8:51 pm on May 1st, 2014
So many folks traveling this year, a real bunch of gad-abouts!
8:53 pm on May 1st, 2014
Love the wedding foto!
9:05 pm on May 1st, 2014
It’s American idols send someone home show. I fear Rio is correct, that it will be Sam.
9:14 pm on May 1st, 2014
Really like the wedding picture!
9:22 pm on May 1st, 2014
O’Howlers: Love the old photo of Misha Moon Man and Sasha’s Wedding.
Dawson: Sorry you can’t find Fargo on your TV line-up. Wish we could record it for you somehow.
9:50 pm on May 1st, 2014
BearSpiritDog: Sometimes shows start later in Canada. I will keep my eyes open for Fargo.
O’Howlers: That is a precious picture.
10:09 pm on May 1st, 2014
Howlers-will Kat and Zeus be wearing the outfits soon?
Amalia, it is hardly out of the way to swing by Fort Worth on your way home 😉
I went out tonight with Rick’s class of ’71 buddies. Had a really great time. No one seemed to notice that my head was shrunk.
This should be an official Plunderer saying.

10:14 pm on May 1st, 2014
MollysMaw!…We just turned it on!…snort!…I fear for Sam tonight…sniffle!…But he will be just fine and dandy…heh!
10:34 pm on May 1st, 2014
Goodbye!….Sam Woolf!…snort!….Gone but not forgotten….sniff!…They are down to 4 now…wheeze!
10:43 pm on May 1st, 2014
Rio: It’s to bad about the Avalanche but the Rockies are beating the pants off the Mets tonight.
10:44 pm on May 1st, 2014
“too” bad.
10:56 pm on May 1st, 2014
Avalanche!…OOOOO no. We did not watch because we have not watched them much this stellar season so we did not want to jinx them…sob!sob!sob!…So they are out of it now?,,,.wuffle!
Mets!…Going down-town…heh!heh!,,,As long as they do not let that Rex Brothers into the game to close (we HATE that guy!) the Rocks should be able to wrap this up…woooo!
10:58 pm on May 1st, 2014
ML, that is a perfect slogan for us.
11:05 pm on May 1st, 2014
Gus and BooBear up top…sniff
Back from quilt club tonight with groceries. Yummy fresh pineapple in the store and now in our fridge. A Catty Librarian showed me how to cut it. Really not hard once you know how and fresh is sooooo much better than canned.
I want to make hummus and was looking for it in Mayville. Har de har har. They just looked at me like I was goofy. humph. I will ask for it in the big city tomorrow.
Rio et al. Would I like this Fargo show? Remember I can’t see any blood or violence. I know your ways and don’t think I should look at it unwarned. Oops the Daily Show is on. Going to go watch. Nighty noodles
11:13 pm on May 1st, 2014
Staff!…No!…There is a lot of humor innit, but it is dark humor and Billy Bob Thornton is not someone you ever want to watch in a movie or a TV show…heh!…I think his acting, is it acting? is excellent, but I am a hardened pug. Not soft and squishy like you….chuffle!…Do not watch Fargo. Do not go to Fargo I beg you!!!…yeeep!
11:14 pm on May 1st, 2014
Macy – yup, that is a good slogan for us. We wish Mama could stop in Texas. She would just love to give y’all a hug.
Staff – you can make hummus from scratch – chick peas are available dried or canned.
We have never seen American Idol – we are watching Midsommer Murders.
11:23 pm on May 1st, 2014
Tupper&Gilly: We here Love Midsommer Murders.
Now watching All is Lost, the Robert Redford film.
Will talk with y’all in the Morning. Nitey nite – Bear

En muchos casos las mujeres procuran fomentar la amedrentad sensible con su pareja ,
a veces, acrecentar su propia autoestima.
