Congratulations Eleanor! And Happy New Year!

“The random number generator has spoken,” Admin says.

“Sort of,” says Spence.

“And here is Eleanor, Chet’s Friend of the Month for January 2012. Her picture will be over in the special spot on the right for the whole month. Also, Eleanor’s human companion: please email spence.quinn@gmail.com with a postal address, and a signed copy of The Dog Who Knew Too Much will be winging its way to you.”

“Should we explain the rules again?” says Spence. “About all you have to do is upload a photo to the Friends of Chey gallery?”

“Some other time,” Admin says. “Right now let’s wish everyone a very happy new year.”

“Happy new year, everybody – to all those who come to the blog sometimes or regularly, and of course to the wondefrul Plunderers!”

Welcome Carly, Kami, Wyatt, Morgan, and the Pig.

Good morning and a cheerful welcome to Eleanor. Happy 2012!

I have to admit that Eleanor is very cute. Sorry you didn’t make FOM, Rio. Maybe next time.

It is so windy here that you could get blown over. Good day to stay in, I think. We have to go give the goaties some hay, because they won’t venture out of the barn today.

I’m late checking in for the New Year’s Celebration, but here’s what happened to me. Yesterday I was at Sam’s where I stayed after the party Friday night. I was planning to come back to ski country for the big torch parade down a ski trail, after which the torches all make a big bonfire, followed by midnight fireworks. Right before I was leaving Sam’s, I got a shooting pain in my hip and I couldn’t walk. I took Aleve and sat with two heating pads for the next two hours. At that point I could walk so I came back to ski country. Parties galore here and the wine certainly helped, but the pain still got worse and I missed the torch parade. I was in bed with the heating pad and I’m still on the heating pad right now.

Beau: Please try and be a better dog this year. You have a good friend in Rio. He will teach you everything you need to know about pugness. And Rio’s friend is A-1. You have found a nice forever home there. Please, please try harder. The Plunderers are rooting for you!

Eleanor: A member of the Nation Within living in the moment! Wow, what a joyful picture. (Zoë says that old Eleanor [ours] thinks that new Eleanor is worthy of the honorable name of Eleanor!)

Loved all the comments, pictures and links last night. Made me feel like I had actually stayed up!

YSAS said the countdown showed just how old some of those folks were getting. He mentioned Dick Clark for one. Dog, I remember Dick Clark as middle aged when I was a pre-teen!

Walk / run was great. A beautiful morning to start the year. Soon i’ll be leaving to see Dan. Patsy is a tad wet! (And very happy) I wonder if I can put her in a full body bib?

Now for a report on the play that we read at the party last Friday.

My friend spent three years writing a play and this was its first reading. I thought this was just going to be a fun thing to do with a dumb play. I was right about the fun part, wrong about the dumb part. The play was very good considering this was the first airing.

What a topic! Not at all what I expected. The play title is ‘Double Ligature’ and is about the Bike Path Killer who terrorized the Buffalo area for 20 years. I had two parts – a detective and a TV reporter.

We could have used YSAS for this, but a good time was had by all. At the end, there was great applause and a champagne toast to the author.

Awesome MollyPop’s mom! Now just get that hip better (speaks the woman who’s been using the heating pad on her back for two days!)

FOTAS has her dress (gorgeous) now it’s shoes. She was asking for help on wedding shoes. She doesn’t have to worry about height, but can’t wear spikes because it will be outside in a forest glade. We compared wedges and such. Last night after I went to bed someone asked her what she wanted to wear and she said her Berks (Birkenstock sandals).

I googled Birkenstock wedding sandals and there’s a company that adds bling to the sandals! Cool. She loves them.

Greetings Plunderers and happy new year to all. My mom lives in her Birkenstocks and walks me all the time, yes even in the winter, in her Birks. She can think of no better way to be comfortable on a wedding day than wearing blingy Birks.

The weather here in the middle of the mitten has been unseasonably warm. Mom took the trash out yesterday with no coat! However, it’s all changing today, with a winter storm watch, big wind gusts and a couple inches of snow.

Mom will be taking down the Christmas tree, purging some decorations and tidying the house after doing nothing for two days. We like days of doing nothing, and that’s how we celebrated 2012…by doing exactly nothing.

Eleanor is a lovely lady and a worthy FOM. (Sorry Rio)

Hope that hip feels better soon, MPM.

Yes! The race is just two months away. AJ and the team trained on a eighty mile run yesterday. He said the dogs did really well. He will be taking it easy in his race this weekend; he’ll be taking some young dogs with him so they can gain race experience. He said he’ll appreciate te Plunderers rooting for him even if he’s purposefully going slow.

Two months away. Wolfie: just saying it makes us smile. Rio & friend will soon be packing for their much anticipated trip to the northern-most state. I know they can’t wait.
Siber: We’ll need your advice as the time draws near…on GPS and all things Iditarod.
Bella: The Plunderers will be cheering AJ on in the upcoming race. (btw – what happened to your ride from the airport?)

Melanie, Love the sandals! She will be more comfortable in a pair of Berks.

Mollypop’s Mom, That play does sound interesting…more interesting than a lot of subjects that are made into plays. I guess we live too far away to have ever heard of the Bike Path Killer.

BearSpiritDog, is that you howling in the clouds? What a grand picture.

Took me and Patsy forever to just get down the hall at Rehab! Everyone wanted to see the Bear. Even though I introduced her as “Patsy” and she was wearing a bib that said “Mama” everyone wanted to know how big “he” was. . . Patsy took it in stride. She loves adoration.

Patsy has her CGC (Canine Good Citizenhip) certificate and showed what a good member of the Nation Within she is. Of course, having a pocket of cheese treats helped.

I read Dan some of his emails. We watched YSAS split wood on a video. Watched some of the Patriots game. (they were losing when I left)

Dan is a tad depressed. Told me he didn’t want to eat in the dining room because everyone was too old and they never talked. Just after that a woman came up and talked to us for 10 minutes all about her cat, how lucky Dan was to have dogs.

You will be proud that I held my tongue!

Will tell FOTAS that you guys love the Berk bling sandals though I keep smiling at the thought of AJ the giant in Berk’s with bling on them!

About Dan: We think he is just getting bored with that place. The thought of staying there even longer than anticipated has to be depressing for him. The visit from you and Patsy was sure to have lifted his spirits.

Melanie, when Mom’s Dad was living in an assisted living apartment after Mom’s Mom passed, he LOVED the dining room. the aides used to tell Mom that Mr. John loved to eat. He would circle just about everything on the menue. But, like Dan said, there wasn’t much conversation going on. He had a regular spot at a table with 3 other gentlemen, but other that “hello” nothing much was said. Mom and our Aunt Pam made sure that he had a visit everyday from one of them. Dan is healing and will get to go home. We know he often forgets that, but it’s something to look forward to. You have our email address…please send us Dan’s and we will certainly send him hello and hi!

Rio, please be patient with Beau. We know you and your friend are trying hard to give him a good home, but it sometimes takes a very long time for bad behavior to go away. He just needs to know that he has a home and people who care (as well as a good pug brother).

Turns out Dan was sick today. Yesterday he took Martha and Zoe around waved at everyone said hello and knew their first names. Today he was down.

I’m trying Agatha Christie’s “Tommy & Tuppence” series (Netflex streaming) I haven’t decided whether I like it or not. 1980’s acting is a bit dated. But it’s the first one, so I’m going to keep trying it.

Bejeweled is pretty much straight forward. Just another time waster, but then, I like time wasters! My ipad is full of them, because a couple of times a year Big Fish Games puts their mobile games on for $.99.

    Inner Peace:
If you can start the day without caffeine,
If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time,
If you can take criticism and blame without resentment,
If you can conquer tension without medical help,
If you can relax without a glass of wine,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
    Then you are probably …

    Macy – hahahahahahahahha!!!!

Ok – so we bought bejeweled 2 cuz it was on sale and we don’t have any other games but solitaire and marbles and a bunch that we have NO idea how to play.

We did get hooked – planned to go to bed an hour ago, and here we sit. But we got up to level 8 – for first times, that should be pretty good, right?

And now we are going to bed. Night all.

Level EIGHT???? I get a sniff of level 7 every once in a while. I have gotten as high as 750,000 once or twice but never ever to level 8.

    sob sob sob….

Its like you learn my thoughts! You seem to grasp a lot about this, such as you wrote the book in it or something. I believe that you simply could do with a few percent to drive the message home a bit, but instead of that, that is magnificent blog. A fantastic read. I will definitely be back.
