Congratulations Brewski!

“Did you get the random number generator working?” Admin says.

“Had to oil the thing first,” Spence says. “It’s a little cranky since Irene.”

“But it came up with a winner?”

“Brewski! Brewski’s picture will now spend the entire month of September over on the right in the Friend of the Month place. And when Brewski’s human companion sends a mailing address to spence.quinn@gmail.com, a signed copy of the most recent Chet and Bernie mystery, meaning To Fetch A Thief, will be on its way. Way to go, Brewski!

Good morning, y’all! We’re early today! Of course, it would be a better morning if I was the FOM — dagnabbit! — but it’s still a pretty tiptop morning anyway! See y’all later, after Mom gets home from the library.

Melanie, We here are having a brewski every evening – O”Douls Amber. It is quite delish, and tastes exactly like real beer without the bad stuff.

Kelly’s FIL (speaking of too much bad stuff) is at the nursing home and thinks he is at a resort! The guy’s mind is very muddled. They are not sure it is temporary…..

Now, off to the Crazy Lady land, for 6 hours.

Recently we ordered 2 cookbooks, I think it was from Wookie. Is it possible to change that and get 3? I think they were around $30.00 +S & H. We decided we are not good at taking it somewhere and having more made.

Or at this point do we have to do something different? BBL

Barb: I’ve ordered four hardcover copies of the cookbook through SharedBooks.com. (I have one that I ordered previously.) I couldn’t get Liz’s cover as the cover on the hardcover because it is a pdf rather than a picture. There may be a way to do it but I don’t know how. As is, Liz’s cover is the first page. They use semi-shiny smooth paper and I’ve ordered full color. I really like the way it is done.

Can’t you just see it? Art by River Bear. We could have them toss drool around and then have a 3 D picture! Seriously . . . snicker . . .

Now I’m going to have to check out OpenOffice.org. I use Word Live Writer for my blog and love it. The page looks like my blog but I can type it as a Word document and then save and print it out from Word. Then I just click “publish” and it automatically opens a new blog page with the new content. Amazing.

Yesterday a student asked if she could read the course texts on ebook. I asked if that meant she would have her laptop open all the time. (I only let them open laptops when we use them as a class.) She said no that she has an ebook reader. It isn’t a Kindle. I’ll have to have her tell me about it.

Staff: What is Kindle in the Cloud? (My students may have been talking about that yesterday as well.)

I have noticed that when I purchase books for my Kindle, they are saved in a amazon cloud. I then have to select the new book and choose the option to have it delivered to my Kindle. Does this happen to anyone else?

  19. B.Stover
    10:38 am on September 1st, 2011

Bluecat: I didn’t know about the USA Today article until classes were over yesterday. I’m going to try to remember to tell them next week!

Woflie: When I order books on Amazon I select one of three choices: the book delivered to my home, or to the Kindle or iPad over Whispernet. (Don’t know if this answers your question.)

  20. Mollypop
    10:43 am on September 1st, 2011

Wolfie – When you buy a book for your Kindle, you can load it on the Kindle or not. Amazon will keep it for you until you actually delete it from Amazon – it can be deleted from the Kindle after you’ve read it.

Mom has her Kindle, her iPaw, and Sam’s Mom’s Kindle all registered to the same account. Books can go from Amazon to any or all of those three devices.

    Thanks Mollypop!

Also regarding Amazon Kindle orders: A friend of mine had Hunger Games on his Kindle and he “loaned” it to my Kindle for two weeks. While it was loaned he couldn’t read it but he had finished it so that didn’t matter. Amazon notified me a few days in advance before the time was up. (Actually, it’s a very smart move because I didn’t have time to finish the book and will be ordering it!)

  22. Melanie
    11:27 am on September 1st, 2011

Hmmm. We have Amazon deliver through the computer and then USB it to the Kindles. We don’t have a Wi-Fi modem, the Mac is a Wi-Fi generator. But that means it won’t do the whispernet for the Kindles. Though if we download from Amazon and then it goes to Dan’s iPaw, we don’t have to hook up the USB. rolling eyes here.

    BStover,
You have to have google Chrome as (one) of your web browsers. On google Chrome go to amazon.com and click on the Kindle link. The fourth choice down says Kindle Cloud Reader. Click on that and download to your computer. Choose a book. Read.

It is free so you don’t have to buy an e-book reader. So Cool.
You do have to buy the books although there are a lot of free and 99 cent ones out there.

    It works nicely.

Nook: I took my favorite meanings from different on-line dictionaries.

Nook: A hidden, remote, obscure or secluded spot. A retreat.

I think that the Pack has Nooks.
Ellie’s is a certain blanket on the floor.
    Patsy’s is my bed.
Mattie’s is underneath the computer desk.
Mac’s is any doorway you need to go through.
Roz’s is the furthest sofa in the living room.
Franklin’s is whenever he shuts his eyes and lowers his head.
Rose’s is behind the chair next to the computer.
    Katy’s is the kitchen.
Grace’s is in the coat closet.

    My nook? My reading/dressing room!

Anyone can take the info, and PA/SQ will be there on the 14th, so we can order a special message signed copy up till then.

We also got a complimentary call from Murder By the Book, in Texas I believe, asking if we would like to preorder a copy. He will not be doing a signing there this year.

I’ll have to get a picture tomorrow or the next day of the river over by our neighbors house. Or should I say “non river”.

The river takes a right turn up river about 1/2 mile. Then it came straight down and did a 90 degree left turn. Come down about 75 yards or so and then take another 90 degree right hand turn. Our house is on that last turn. The beavers took a small stream that cut through that triangle (making an island) behind the house, and kept widening it.

Irene has completely shifted the main river to travel down the beaver stream. That is now the river and our two neighbors no longer have a river at all!

Weird. There’s a lot of power in water!

WooHoo – Mama is home, home, home for the long weekend. No more Crazy Lady til Tuesday. That gives her 4 whole days to get that winning lottery ticket so she doesn’t have to go back.

Maybe packing for his upcoming trip?

Rio! Check in again. You know how we worry.

    Happy Birthday, Dawson!!!

Mom got our surprise today, too. Thank you T&G, Royal’s Mum and Spence for taking the time to do that for us.

Getting very excited about the new book! Kindle first and then pawtographed hardback copy.

Good news for Zoe!! Melanie, when do you, Zoe and Dan the Man get to meet SQ? Take awesome pictures, okay?

We were supposed to get 4 days of rainy weather, but now it’s heading east of here. We may get some rain Sunday and Monday. We’re betting not. Rats!!

Happy Anniversary of your birth, Dawson.

In case you missed it last night, I want to reiterate, Belle-the-bipolar BIT mom yesterday. Bad dog, Belle, bad, bad dog. Don’t give me that shamed face. You can’t unbite someone. And on mom’s bad finger too. Bad dog. Face the wall. At least no stitches were involved. This time. Strange how dog teeth can bruise a finger. It is all purple.

Happy Birthday, Dawson! Perhaps a sestina is in order? Nah. Sorry, I’m in the middle of writing another sestina right now. Pretty sure I can’t handle two at once! So how’s this?

There once was a Plunderer named Dawson,
At the auction she wouldn’t play possum.
    Her birthday we toast
    From border to coast
We all say she’s double-y awesome!

Thanks T&G! Oh, and thanks also for our mail — it came today! The time after the mailman came was agony — like I said, I can’t reach the mailbox! — so I had to wait until Mom came home to see if there was anything addressed to me. And there was!

Kirby T: Your birthday wish to Dawson was excellent!

Dogumentary update: We recieved an email today that the casting director. She said the additional footage was exactly what they needed. Our friend and self-proclaimed photographer of the kennel (Rio—you’ll meet him, and no, he isn’t a giant) came out to the kennel with his fancy camera to help with filming. I did mention the Plunderers twice in the footage.

  89. Gus & BooBear
    10:28 pm on September 1st, 2011

Rebecca, when can we see the additional footage? Is it posted on Snowhooks website?

Macy, one of Mom’s cats bit her in the knuckle of her pinky finger once…all the way into the joint. They were moving and Pookie was very scared so Mom knew she didn’t mean it. But by the evening, she felt bad enough to go to minor emergency clinic. They treated her with super, duper antibiotics and referred her to a orthopedic surgeon. By Friday, she was having emergency surgery and the people vet told her that he THOUGHT he could save the finger. He did save the finger, but that first joint is frozen solid. It will not bend AT ALL. Luckily, the middle joint still works (sort of) so she does not look all snobby with her pinky sticking up!

Gus and BooBear: The footage is too large to email or post. Our friend smooshed—I believe the is the technical term—all of our takes (two) together. I became flusters and quite possible over-emoted about the Plunderers. 🙂

    We DO NOT have cooties.

Too true, T&G! When Mom and Dad lived at Fort Drum in New York, they had a neighbor who had Cat Scratch Fever, just like the song! She got real sick and had to go to the doctor!!!

  95. Gus & BooBear
    10:42 pm on September 1st, 2011

Rebecca, it is not possible to OVER-emote about the Plunderers!! We’re sure that will be the winning edge you need to get the dogumentary. Hey, maybe Rio and Friend will be up there when the filming in going on and Rio will make it in the movies!! That might upset Sam.

You guys are keeping us very entertained tonight. Although Personally I don’t think you shoule be bitting the hand that…..well you know how the line goes.

Funny story about Kelly’s FIL who is in the nursing home from drinking – he said this is the second resort he has been in this week where they didn’t have locks on the doors (first being the hospital).
He also called Room Srervice (front desk/nurses station) last night and asked them to send a bottle of vodka and a bucket of ice to his room! Pretty sure he didn’t get it!

    11:04 pm on September 1st, 2011

Rebecca – one step closer to Snowhook Stardom! Wait til Siber gets home and reads all this.
WHEN you get selected, and if they do film during the start of the race, we bet Sam will find a way to stoweaway in some kind of vehicle to get to Alaska. But she will be ok – she will have her own chapstick.
    tee hee

GandBB: I believe the Royal’s mum told us to: emote, emote, emote! I think I added one too the mix and it resulted in me being tongue tied. I think I forgot to mention something about award winning, best selling. I couldn’t get it right…

I bet Rio will remember all the right details in his acceptance speech following his big film debut.

Barb and Maggie: I have to borrow a ‘snort’ from Rio at your theory on biting the hand that…

(Whispering) I sent in some extra footage that AJ doesn’t know about. I filmed it in my office so AJ wouldn’t know, but I told the camera how amazing AJ is and that they should know how proud I am of him.

If Sam does stowaway to Iditarod, we need to make sure she is in a bright colored dog jacket otherwise we won’t see her against the snow.

Macy please keep an eye on that bite. Mr.Staff had the same problem with our kat Alton one time. He kept saying it was OK and it was fine and it kept swelling up. He finally agreed to go to the emergency room and got antibiotics. Sheesh. It would have been way cheaper to go sooner.

    So be careful dear.

And where is Rio? Who has his friends emergency number? Was he going this weekend? Gah! I am getting worried. You would think he would have said see ya later or something.

Thanks for all the birthday greetings today. I was working a long shift so I’m exhausted. It’s crazy busy at the hospital lately but my group got away from the chaos by going out back to the firepit and cooking T-bone steaks, corn on the cob, onions and mushrooms. Also had banana bread and delicious cherries. I didn’t want to go back in but eventually we all had to pee so…
I’m fading fast and have to work another long shift tomorrow.
Hey thanks Kirby, for the poem. You are quite talented that way.
Goodnight all and G’day to LizF.

Long!…Days journey into night….snort! … My friend has been very upset today so she took it out on me…sniff!… I was not allowed near the computer except for that “Humbug” I snuck in early this morning…heh!… She says she learned something important today and shared it with me so that I can know something important without going through all the pain and agony of actually learning it …snorkel! …What she shared with me is simple. Don’t fret about meaningless nasty beings that exist only to erode our confidence, happiness and wellbeing. Instead, dwell only on the beings that bring joy and laughter into our lives. Those by the nature of their friendship bring meaning to our lives.

Meaning!… That’s what she learned today and has passed onto me…wheeze!…This is how I interpret those words of wisdom; if I ignore you that means you are on my shit-list…heh!heh!…Goodnight.

Factoring in the longevity of Snoop’s career dating back to 90’s,this former album dogumentary deserves a solid 4.After 20 years and there’s still something on the album for everybody to bang and the songs are from each one distinguishable from apiece other..but these days people would rather praise the majority of the bullshit..if you were even born after Snoop’s first album came out don’t even comment.
