Congratulations Beppe!
The random number generator has spoken (in a heavy East German accent, circa 1956) and it said: “Beppe.” Congratulations, Beppe, Chet’s Friend of the Month for June.
“Maybe better to have an Italian accent for Beppe,” says Spence, “but there you have it. Beppe will be in the special place where Spencer (no relation) has been, and as soon as we get a mailing address from Beppe’s human companion (send to spence.quinn@gmail.com) a signed and paw-printed copy of A Fistful of Collars will be on its way.”
“Next month,” says Admin, “this could be you! Just send in a photo to the Friends of Chet gallery. The random number generator does the rest!”
Welcome Izzy & Malcolm, Isabel, Quito, 5 would-be readers, BayWolf, Abbie.

Gooood morning, everyone! Gah…June? Where, when, what??? Boy have we lost something.
Welcome one dozen new, gooood-looooking friends.
8:44 am on June 1st, 2013
Sorry, Rio. Sorry, Sammy.
Congrats, Beppe!
Good morning all.
8:57 am on June 1st, 2013
Friends, I hate to bring sadness to this blog so early on a beautiful June morning.
Buddy is no longer with us. He who is always under foot or on top of me, was nowhere to be found this morning. I was so afraid he had gotten outside last night when all of our friends were here. But no. He was lying in the living room, passed away. I feel so damn guilty for not being with him when he needed/wanted me most.
8:57 am on June 1st, 2013
Hello Beppe.
Good morning all.
9:00 am on June 1st, 2013
Bebbe! A noble pose. Obviously, a big dog in a compact body.
Good Morning All!
The Pack is bringing large bettles in the house. Pets? Prey? If prey there are miles behind Meashka.
9:06 am on June 1st, 2013
Hmmm, since they are not in Bettle, AK, nor bring home airplanes from said town’s airport, NOR are they bringing home actresses, I would change that to BEETLES.
Way too early. Nephews have finished 3/4 of the list in one hour. Oh to have a body that works.
9:09 am on June 1st, 2013
Buddy’s Mom, rest assurred that if he was in the living room, he was ok with crossing the bridge. No guilt.
Melanie: Knowing a bit about newfs, those are pets and free entertainment 🙂 Also good you survived yesterday.
T&G: Hey to ya’lls mom andtell her to keep her cool and not puddle up toooo much today.
Mom has a friend who is a military meteorologist in Tulsa, OK. Talk about a wild ride!
9:27 am on June 1st, 2013
Buddy’s Mom – no guilt, please. He had a good life and crossed the bridge “my way”. You’ll miss him but you know he has friends on the other side. Thoughts with all of you.
Sorry Sam & Rio. Take care, Everybody.
9:41 am on June 1st, 2013
He was my best friend in the entire universe. Meashka’s too.

9:50 am on June 1st, 2013
Buddy was beautiful. Goodbye Buddy. We will remember you.
9:58 am on June 1st, 2013
O’Howlers – So sorry about Buddy. Please have no guilt, it seems it was quick.
10:11 am on June 1st, 2013
What!…Beppe!…WHAT?
10:12 am on June 1st, 2013
Howlers!….Very sorry to hear about your Kat Buddy…sniffle!
10:26 am on June 1st, 2013
Mollypop is to the right. Very fitting. Thanks, Molly. You will love my Buddy…he is more dog than cat.
10:51 am on June 1st, 2013
I feel so bad about Buddy that I can’t complain about not being the FOM.
11:05 am on June 1st, 2013
O’Howlers, sorry to hear about Buddy. As the Pack grows older . .
Take good care of your Mom. Kat, perhaps you could crawl up in her lap and purr a bit.
11:09 am on June 1st, 2013
Congrats, Beppe!
I’m so sorry, Buddy’s Mom.
11:15 am on June 1st, 2013
I was told to take at easy today. Then the nephews arrived.
They have straightened 5 fence posts.
Got the broken lock off the gate (mechanical engineer was heard, while hammering the lock with a crowbar, “I’m an engineer for Dog’s sake.)
Put the hoses on the faucets so they don’t leak. (We’ll probably never get them off.) Connected the hoses to reach the pool from two sides. Also used the splitter so I have one hose for the garden.
It took all four of us to get the cover off the pool. Turns out when our neighbor down the way snowblowed us out during one bad storm, he put about 4 gallons of stone from the driveway into the pool. Got it off.
Then I washed it and used a broom to get things off you don’t want to know about. All of this before 11 am.
YIKES.
This afternoon Zoe and I will get the leaves out of the pool, and fill it up so we can vacuum it.
Another day of taking it easy.
Snort! (And the salad wall is still NOT UP)
Snigglefritz.
11:17 am on June 1st, 2013
We first saw the news of Buddy on FB and raced over here to see what happened. So, so sorry Howler Tribe. Run free, Buddy.
I turns out that Grant did not have a heart attack. He was at the airport after a flight from Boston and suffered from one of those things they warn you about on flights, the blood clot that forms from sitting. His memorial was yesterday, and it was a hoot, lots of friends telling stories, warning that anyone concerned with “appropriateness” was given fair warning!
11:23 am on June 1st, 2013
Buddy’s mom. Sadness but no guilt. I’m sure that Buddy knows how much he was loved every day by his entire family, two and four-legged alike. And while he will be missed, he will never be forgotten. He’s in good company now on the other side of the Bridge as well, who will look after him in the best way possible.
11:53 am on June 1st, 2013
Jeeze Louise, I forgot to tell you that Franklin opened the gate to the play yard just as we opened the lower gate to the river. They had a great time in the river, and they have cooled down.
Franklin does NOT want to separated from Zoë!
11:55 am on June 1st, 2013
Macy, now that’s a send-off!
11:58 am on June 1st, 2013
O’Howlers – Mollypop loved Kats but they never cared for her. They always ran away or jumped up to a high spot. Molly and Buddy will be good friends for each other.
12:24 pm on June 1st, 2013
All the Howler Tribe, We are so sorry about Buddy. That is such a cute picture. We also say no guilt necessary. Mom had a dog pass away overnight like that. The dog was in the house, of course, but mom was asleep. I’m sure Buddy’s journey to Rainbow Bridge was a peaceful one.
12:40 pm on June 1st, 2013
Mom had a Kat named Buddy who was more dog than cat. She misses him to this day, so she understands your loss. But oh, what a reunion across the Bridge!
12:41 pm on June 1st, 2013
Macy, that sounded more like a wake than a memorial. So I looked up wake.
“It is often a social rite which highlights the idea that the loss is one of a social group and affects that group as a whole.[1]” This was from Wikipedia and refers to 1991 Metcalf, Peter & Richard Huntington. Celebrations of Death: The Anthropology of Mortuary Ritual. Cambridge Press, New York.
What a wonderful send off.
12:44 pm on June 1st, 2013
Once upon a time there was a beautiful and gentle orange Cat. He was like no other as he snuggled with his Dog friends, Kat and Meashka. He had a wonderful life and loved his people very much. One night, he decided that he was ready to cross the Rainbow Bridge to be with some of his other friends. His body was tired, and he wanted to play and run and hunt in the giant meadows of freedom on the other side. So that night, while his family slept, he took his peaceful path and gently slipped away. The last sound this world heard from him was a soft purr, a purr of thanks for the good life he had, and a purr of wonder at the delights he was heading for.
And he was a happy Cat.
Forever.

T&G’s mom: Ypu have the ability to always hit the nail on the head with words 🙂

Tupper and Gilly, the Bards of Chet’s Blog!
1:06 pm on June 1st, 2013
Beautiful words, Tupper and Gilly!
1:16 pm on June 1st, 2013
So sorry to hear about Buddy. A peaceful death is a good thing; I would have loved for my pets to have gently passed away sleeping at night.
Another full day of painting awaits. Tomorrow: yard work then off to Anchorage.
1:21 pm on June 1st, 2013
Ummm, does anyone have a sprinkler they like? I hate this one. I should have known that going for a retro Star Trek looking sprinkler would work as well as some of the props they had in the original series.
1:25 pm on June 1st, 2013
Melanie- you dissin’ my props?
1:40 pm on June 1st, 2013
Captn’!…Kirk!…snort!
Busy!…Someone is busy, busy, busy. Trying to gather all her supplies for the big game this afternoon…sniff!…While I sit at home moping and grumping…huffle!
1:45 pm on June 1st, 2013
I KNEW that Kirk was back. I’ve been seeing bright lights in the sky!
1:53 pm on June 1st, 2013
All of us, including Mom want you all to know that we appreciate your kind words. Please know they mean a lot, but none of us feel up to talking much today. We are in shock because Buddy wasn’t old (we don’t think) or sick. This is just too much to bear right now.
2:08 pm on June 1st, 2013
Rio, Glad your friend is going to the game. She will have fun. Tell her to wave at me. She can make a sign that says, “Hello Siber-H”. The Rockies are due for a win. (That is an understatement)
2:36 pm on June 1st, 2013
Greetings from the sauna – uh, we mean the show. It is another hot and humid day, but once again there is a blessed breeze now and then. Customers are drifting in and out. At least we are set up in the corner if the big circus tent, so we get the breeze from two sides, and we are well shaded. But we do think dinner tonight will be one that us served with an ice cream scoop again.
When we went to get ice cream last night, they had peppermint AND Cotton Candy flavor. The only decision we had to make was which one to have first.
The Storyteller is on his way here. We can’t wait for everyone to see him.
3:02 pm on June 1st, 2013
Re: the memorial. It was a hybrid between memorial service and wake. People sitting politely in rows, laughing along with the speakers. Especially humorous was the bit from the guy who spoke about Grant’s fondness for “Dr. Pepper”. Grant’s two young daughters were in attendance, so he spoke in code. Mom thought he was speaking of brewskis until he mentioned that he had a license in California for “Medical Dr. Pepper”. Almost everyone who spoke was a theater geek, some were pretty dramatic. BTW the Dr. Pepper guy was the one whose wedding Grant was returning from when he died. Not the way he had intended to spend his honeymoon, for sure. Oh, and it was held in the Grand Ballroom of the convention center, where the ceiling is like twinkling stars, and someone modified the sign to say “Grant Ballroom”.

If anyone is interested, the series “The Killing” season three starts tomorrow night. Meanwhile, all of season two is on On Demand, ending tomorrow.
3:48 pm on June 1st, 2013
It is also on Netflix Streaming. I’ve never watched it. Going to try it later today.
Never got into the pool. This morning took all my strength. More power to T&G for being out in that heat!
We won’t be putting in the AC units yet. After tomorrow June looks nice.
3:53 pm on June 1st, 2013
Remember that commercial that had the supposed Newf pup in it?
This is from Facebook and these puppies are 11 WEEKS old. snicker

4:19 pm on June 1st, 2013
Eleven weeks old! Wow.
Melanie: Let me know how you like “The Killing.” I’m going to watch season two.
4:46 pm on June 1st, 2013
That photo is amazing…11 weeks old. CUTE puppies!
The Rockies are ahead by one run. I hope they find a way to win the game today.
5:07 pm on June 1st, 2013
nevermind…The Dodgers are ahead by 2 runs now.
5:31 pm on June 1st, 2013
Those are NOT Newfs…those are Wooly Mammoths in training.
5:58 pm on June 1st, 2013
Congratulations to Beppe and welcome to all the new FOC!
Kat & Meashka: So sorry to hear about your best friend Buddy. He will be well missed. He was one of the first Chet’s Friend of the Month (if I’m remembering rightly) and a friend of ours forever. That is a lovely picture of Buddy and Kat.
MacyMinPin: Sounds like Grant got a howling good send-off.
Huge Furry Newfballs!
I was watching the Twins lose on MLB and then suddenly, they won! Maybe the Rockies can do that also.
6:02 pm on June 1st, 2013
I had forgotten how slow-paced “The Killing” is. I don’t know if I have the patience.
6:04 pm on June 1st, 2013
Gooood gooooga mooooga! Those newfs make 45 lb. Darah look like a munchkin!
6:05 pm on June 1st, 2013
Yankees vs. Red Sox tonight.
6:13 pm on June 1st, 2013
Howlers: I just arrived home to the sad news about Buddy. Please don’t feel guilty. I know Buddy wouldn’t want you to. His trip to the Bridge was simply a private, silent, and peaceful one. Buddy will never be far away…he will forever be in your hearts. And he will have the love you gave him in his heart forever.
6:15 pm on June 1st, 2013
RIO! Did your friend wear her lucky bracelets that she never takes off to the game?
6:16 pm on June 1st, 2013
Beautiful tribute to Buddy, T&G.
Lovely picture of Kat and Buddy.
6:44 pm on June 1st, 2013
Barb just got home after a little baby sitting and grocery shopping.
Storm is approaching, and Comcast tv just went off then back on, so we may be shutting down for a bit.
Lots of thunder and lightning going on and it is very dark.
Just want to say how sorry we were to read about Buddy. He did go peacefully tho, and if he was in the living room and not hiding somewhere, it must have been OK. Do not feel guilty. He had the best family ever, and was a very lucky kitty.
We may be back later.
8:01 pm on June 1st, 2013
Rio’s friend gave the Rockies some good luck. They won it in the 10th inning. She is always good luck for her team. Now for some hockey!
8:19 pm on June 1st, 2013
Dawson, we chose hockey over the Yankees game. We have to see Crosby – love that guy.
8:20 pm on June 1st, 2013
I’m glad the Rockies won a game while Rio’s friend was there.
I miss Masquers and Bear. When will they ever return?
8:20 pm on June 1st, 2013
OH’s, can’t say how sorry we are about Buddy. Wonder if he got into something at the party. But evidently, it was a peaceful crossing and we know he had lots of friends to greet him on the other side. One of Mom’s fosters passed during one of Dad’s hospital stays. She still feels bad that he was alone. He would hide from the catsitters and they didn’t realize he was gone. He died right before they got home. Tell Kat and Meashka that Buddy is in a good place making good friends.
8:29 pm on June 1st, 2013
Red Sox Yankees 1-0 top of 3rd
8:44 pm on June 1st, 2013
Sam, if the Red Sox win this game, I know of one Red Sox fan who is going to be perturbed.
9:10 pm on June 1st, 2013
SiberH: are those fires in NM anywhere near you?
9:20 pm on June 1st, 2013
Perturbed if they WIN? Why?
9:23 pm on June 1st, 2013
And it’s a good chance they’re going to be perturbed.
9:31 pm on June 1st, 2013
HOH…I can see one of the fires…the smoke plume from it. This happens on a yearly basis anymore. There is no threat from it where I live because I am in the high desert instead of the mountains.
Santa Fe is getting all the smoke from it right now. If the wind changes directions and the smoke comes my way, you will hear me complaining.
Thanks for asking.
9:32 pm on June 1st, 2013
Whoa! Late is relative, but it has caught up with mom. Nighty night.
9:34 pm on June 1st, 2013
Sibers: We ask because mom lived in So. Cal 50 years and San Diego & Riverside Cos had their share of burns. She understands.

Sleep well everyone.

Day!…What a great day my friend had…grunt!…Without me…sniff!…After we went out!out!out! and then ate and ate and ate, she turned the Stanley Cup Finals game on and there was a big ole hocky fight going on…gasp!…Boston 1 and the other guy I forget…heh!
Baseball!…The Rockies Won!Won!Won! today!….Woooo!…The game was up and down and down and up…heh!..Tied! And then in extra innings Dexter hit the winning run! All the guys rushed the field. What a great game!….heh!…snorkel!….The only bad thing was she forgot her camera….grump!
10:19 pm on June 1st, 2013
Rio, have the Rockies won every game that your friend has attended? I say that because it seems that way.
10:36 pm on June 1st, 2013
Sammie!…Somehow, someway, they have always won win my friend is there…heh!heh!….Remember the game when they scored 9 runs in the 9th inning to winnit??…I do!…chuffle!
10:50 pm on June 1st, 2013
Sam, that an was at the game yesterday when the Red Sox lost.
I’m battling one frigging musketoe that has gotten in my bedroom. What I want to do is go to sleep.

Rio: I can’t believe your friend forgot her camera. Aren’t you always reminding Plunderers to take their cameras and extra batteries. Wot happened?
Finished painting the deck railings and side walls. Now to paint the laundry room. It is small (thank dog) so I should be able to get it done tonight before bed.
Tomorrow: yard work, light house cleaning and a 7-hour drive to Anchorage with hopefully a drugged Sadie.
12:52 am on June 2nd, 2013
Sammie: don’t let your owners see this site; it might give them ideas for your next wonderfluffing:

I sorry, but those shaved animals crack us up. My hair can’t get any shorter, so I am safe. And poodles are just asking to be “decorated”, snicker. That poor dog with the overalls made mom spew her Pepsi.
Mom wanted to take a little nap so she fed us a few minutes early. Then dad came home and thought we had not had dinner, so SCORE!! We got dinner twice!!!
