Cold Enough for You?
“That’s got to be one of the most annoying questions there is,” Admin says. “A hanging offense.”
“Well, before we string anyone up – and it’ll have to be indoors, I’m not going out there,” says Spence, “here are some tips re cold and the nation within.”

Good morning, everyone! Thanks, Spence for some good and common sense advice. Shame some people don’t think of that. We are going to have mom send it to lots of folks and have them to send it on.
It’s Tuesday (we’ll get it right this week) so she is scurring around to go to the library. We’ll lounge around and when we hear her car we’ll jump and run and bark and pretend we’re tired so she’ll take a nap with us, us, us.
Have a tundra of a Tuesday 🙂
8:45 am on January 6th, 2015
Good morning! Mom does not worry about us in the cold or snow. Go figure.
9:04 am on January 6th, 2015
SiberH: Teddy says you should consider blurring over to Chevy Chase this morning. What was supposed to be at most a light dusting is now about 3 inches of wet snow and still falling. Teddy has already had a rousing game of snow frisby and word is that his gal may put in an appearance later today. Looks like dad may work from home too.
I presume the picture is our Spence’s lovely girl Pearl, all grown up. Love the collar.
Good morning everyone and stay warm.
9:11 am on January 6th, 2015
It is waaay cold enough for the human who lives here and Lucy too. She goes out and does her business and then aarooos right away to come back in.
We are the opposite of Teddy – we were supposed to get up to 6″ of snow, but instead only got a dusting. Heavier snow was south of us.
So therefore, Barb is heading to the office. She will check in later, since she will be flying solo all day.
9:16 am on January 6th, 2015
Wookie&Teddie’s Dad: That does look like the stunning Pearl in her winter collar in the Photo Above.
O’Howlers: Thanks for the reminder about Downton Abbey (although to be truthful Nana fell asleep in the middle of it). It’s important to keep up with the season on PBS, otherwise you have to pay for it on Amazon. And, we agree, last season wasn’t all that great.
Hounds: And, we’re off on a Tundra Tuesday.
Barb,Magpie,Lucy: Paws crossed you don’t get Snowed In at the Busy Place. Yeep.
9:30 am on January 6th, 2015
Tundra Tuesday? He is our buddy! Also a very bad boy. Heh!
Hey, T&G, cold enough for you? Tee hee!!!
9:39 am on January 6th, 2015
Weather Scan is using the words “bitterly cold” here.
Pearl is beautiful and I love her collar.
Good morning all.
10:10 am on January 6th, 2015
Good morning all–I agree that Pearl is lovely and that we all need to keep things in perspective. (Also, I will spare you the weather report from my area except to say that it’s normal again and we have wind sweeping away the smog but kicking up some dust and debris at the same time.
Everyone keep warm and be safe. Those under the quilt (looking at you, Meashka) one word–FLUIDS!
10:17 am on January 6th, 2015
Howlers – ppphhhhhbbbbbbtttttt!
10:27 am on January 6th, 2015
It is a balmy 47 degrees in our neck of the woods, but only because we are not a part of the frigid low sweeping across the continent.
I have a great idea…send all your snow and cold temperatures north to Alaska. CHobbiti won’t mind. Heh, heh.
Alice&Abbie: Are you guys okay? or have those interlopers taken over completely?
Dawson: Paws crossed your shoulder problem will be solved soon.
Rose: I am so happy to be back to the blog with an iPaw that is working.
As T&G once pointed out, if someone here had had a decent provider (can you hear me now?) this katastrophe would not have occurred.

I neglected to wish everyone a Happy Twelfth Night! Let me do so now with the following “Awww…” video.

10:50 am on January 6th, 2015
Diane – that is indeed an “awwww”. Truly a face only a mother, real or foster, could love.
Wonder if that rhino will still be approachable as an adult? Real test of nature vs nurture
10:53 am on January 6th, 2015
Awwww, Diane, What a Cutie!
Happy Twelfth Night to you too, and a Reminder that the holidays are over and we had best get the last of the Decorations put away, and Pronto.
Isn’t there some kind of bad luck attached if this is not done in a timely fashion? Or are we being Superstitious?
11:12 am on January 6th, 2015
Stay warm, everyone! – Weatherkat
11:13 am on January 6th, 2015
BSD–My understanding is that it’s bad luck to take anything down until Jan. 6 was over, thus maintaining a holiday atmosphere and excuse for party food for a little longer. (I DO try to make sure all decs are down bu April 1.)
T and G AND BSD–When I was much younger I worked weekends at the LA Zoo where the children’s area at one time had a baby rhino (smaller than the one in the video) who had made friends with a baby gnu. A tiny rhino kicking its back legs up like a more equine-looking animal was truly a sight to behold. (Now I wish I could find out what happened to both of them…)
I’m pondering the nature-nurture question–if a rhino or hippo spent its early youth with humans, shouldn’t it/him/her remain approachable? (We have those lion and elephant and bear examples…)
11:14 am on January 6th, 2015
Masquers! Aaagh!!! Dress warmly, those of you in the affected areas…
11:23 am on January 6th, 2015
A new Flavia de Luce novel by Alan Bradley is out today: As Chimney Sweepers Come to Dust.
11:32 am on January 6th, 2015
Arctic!…Seems to me I have been blasted by that Arctic air more times than I can count on one paw…snort!….And I’m getting damned tired of freezing all the time…sniff! grumble! sneeze!
11:44 am on January 6th, 2015
Riö: Have I thanked you for posting that photo the other day of the two of us in Alaska?
Bear thought he was your favorite, but I always knew you liked me best. Heh.
btw…it may be time to get that Fica tree back from your other house…it’s too darn cold to venture outside.
11:58 am on January 6th, 2015
Diane – re nature vs nurture….we used to spend a lot of time at an exotic animal sanctuary in Florida. They had a lion that had been raised in a house as a pet – yes, stupid, we know. The owner was wealthy and thought the baby cub was sooo cute.
The adult lion was cuddly and adorable. He purred and “ooofffed” whenever he saw us. We fed him through the cage, and he rubbed up so we could scratch him.
Anyway, a couple of years later, someone left his pen open while feeding him. He escaped and killed one the of attendants.
Because after all, he WAS a lion.
12:04 pm on January 6th, 2015
Ditto to what the Howlers said about the cold. It is one of the advantages of living with a Husky. See below one of the disadvantages…we gripe.
Teddy, I am on my way!!
It is boring here…let me tell you.
Mom can run around outside without a jacket.
I saw video this morning of it snowing in New York City.
Wose?
12:10 pm on January 6th, 2015
Henry sounds very athletic. Do cats yawn? (Real question.)
12:34 pm on January 6th, 2015
Did anyone see the Sarah Palin interview this morning with Savanna Guthrie? I could swear she referred to her dog as a he, but its name is Jill and the Jewish word for Esther. Doesn’t that sound like a girl dog? The interview was about PETA critizing her for allowing Trig (who must weigh at least 50 lbs)to use the dog as a stepping stool.
12:45 pm on January 6th, 2015
Bee – yes
1:00 pm on January 6th, 2015
Thank you Tupper and Gilly.
1:22 pm on January 6th, 2015
Pearl is beautiful in her jingle bell collar.
Masquers: Glad you are back to warn of the Arctic weather extending way down South.
Today is 10 percent off Tuesday at the grocery stores so I will brave the cold to see if the stores have frozen hot peppers and boneless pork ribs. Some of Rio’s friends hot green chili would hit the spot.
1:29 pm on January 6th, 2015
In the Episcopal tradition, no one bats an eye if Christmas decorations stay up a long time. There is a “Feast of the Lights” or something in February — that is supposed to be when the decorations really need to be down. Absolutely by Ash Wednesday, though. I do take the tree down long before that. It dries out too much.
1:32 pm on January 6th, 2015
Diane: Whew! That is Good to Know. With any luck we’ll have everything put away by Ground Hog Day.
Measha: How is my Favorite Redhead today?
Barb,Magpie,Lucy: SP is not one of our favorite people so Nothing She Does is a Surprise.
1:34 pm on January 6th, 2015
Martha: Double Whew. Someone Here is much relieved. This is all
New Information.
1:35 pm on January 6th, 2015
Dawson: I agree…some of Rio’s Hot Green Chili would taste mighty good about now.
1:38 pm on January 6th, 2015
Dawson, good job for Canada on the game woo hoo!
2:18 pm on January 6th, 2015
HOH: Both teams played very well.
2:55 pm on January 6th, 2015
Hounds: WoooHooo!!! Our Snowhook Cup is here!! And pawing through the package we found a Special Treat from Your Mom!
Now please excuse us while we do a Taste Test. 🙂
(BTW: Excellent wrapping job.)
3:01 pm on January 6th, 2015
BSD…BURP! SLURP You are welcome.
3:04 pm on January 6th, 2015
CHobbit!…Check your SDD when you get a furry-footed moment…snort!
3:08 pm on January 6th, 2015
Downton!….We all watched Downton Abby last night and the most ridiculous thing I heard was when Lady Mary came in and proclaimed, “I’m going upstairs to take off my hat.”….snort!…It sounded absolutely silly…heh!heh!
3:16 pm on January 6th, 2015
Rio, I heard that comment and thought the same thing. One must go upstairs to take off their hat? Silly!
I went back and re-read Palin’s comments and she did indeed refer to the dog as a he. She said he loves his buddy Trig. And “his” name is Jill Hadassah (Jewish for Ester). Now either that is a silly name for a male dog or she doesn’t know what sex her cherished family pet happens to be. I know, I have too much time on my hands!
3:22 pm on January 6th, 2015
We have Canada geese that fly around here all the time. However, I just saw a huge flock of them very high in the sky flying in formation from north to south. Looks like they just left the north which has gotten too cold for them.
3:31 pm on January 6th, 2015
B: Those geese had better keep on flying until they reach Florida. The jet stream is dipping pretty low these days.
3:39 pm on January 6th, 2015
I wonder why the jet stream doesn’t go into Florida.
3:46 pm on January 6th, 2015
Greetings!
Grizz had his allergy shot appointment and I had my therapy appointment.
Siber-H: In our neck of the woods a very fine snow (like powdered sugar) was falling, but it seems to have stopped now. Just a dusting….I am waiting for a REAL snowfall….
Pearl has grown into a lovely young lady.
3:51 pm on January 6th, 2015
T and G–Oh dear–that is such a dreadful story. Poor lion (and poor attendant). I hope the rhino is repatriated to the wild successfully…
Sounds like the Palin family dog might also benefit from re-homing…
3:52 pm on January 6th, 2015
I need to correct my comment from this morning that we had just a dusting of snow. It was actually 3″.
4:03 pm on January 6th, 2015
I just read about a dog in Scotland who was abandoned at a railroad station, along with a suitcase full of his belongings. The authorities are trying to find the owner, because in Scotland it is a crime to abandon an animal, an if found, the person could lose his right to ever again own an animal. I think we should have a law like that, and inforce it! I don’t really like the word “Owner”.
4:29 pm on January 6th, 2015
Barb, the boarder in my basement, on his way home from worm, watched a Jeep sloow down on an interstate highway here in town. the pasenger window lowered and a dog flelw out. A few seconds the rest of the leasat followed with food and toy attached. Voila! Blondie was on a buy interstate highway!. He got the dog and appologized for not chasing the car down. If mom ever ssees the car he described (bumper sticker inculded) she will show then the meaning of “older, better insured. Y’all have seen how happy and contennt that little rat dog is here in the herd of hounds. Mom would like to punch that guy.

4:37 pm on January 6th, 2015
Wose, Me too, I am still waiting.
4:43 pm on January 6th, 2015
As my dad indicated earlier, my gal Zeta stopped by with her mom and we had a grand time in the snow. Her mom got a new IPhone 6 with better video features including a really cool slow motion thingee. I will post a couple of the videos of us frolicking in the snow in my backyard. Here is video 1:

She took some good photos too. This is me and Zeta playing catch with a tennis ball in the snow. Getting ready for spring training.

4:48 pm on January 6th, 2015
And here we are with her playing frisbee keepaway.

5:17 pm on January 6th, 2015
Movies!…Wow! So that’s what they call playing in the snow…snort!…Beau and I had no idea…snicker!…We go out and get right back in as soon as possible. Sometimes we aren’t even finished and we want back in…grunt!
5:23 pm on January 6th, 2015
Teddy, Thanks for the pictures and video. I am smiling. That is a nice snow you got.
5:26 pm on January 6th, 2015
Those are some rollicking, frolicking puppies. wish we were there to play with them too. As slow as they move, we could keep up for sure.
We just got a new CubKat report – he has now decided that he is actually a fur stole. Whenever he get a chance, he wraps himself around the neck of whoever will let him, and just sits there, purring. When his pet dog lays down, Cub climbs up on his shoulders, hangs the front legs down one side, the back legs down the other and they both go to sleep.
Basil wants credit for beating the snot out of….um, we mean, pointing out to us that Cab needed to go to a different, loving home.
5:27 pm on January 6th, 2015
TRR & Z, we love the videos and the stills. Furtastic!
5:40 pm on January 6th, 2015
Zeta is good at tennis ball keep-away too.
6:38 pm on January 6th, 2015
Snow!!! We have lots of snow! Youse wouldn’t believe what this farm looks like all dressed up in the white fluffy stuff. We could have been recorded too, if Mom had gotten home before dark, but she had to get her cardoor unlocked; her keys were locked inside (a story for another time).
Anyways, Teddy, the videos of you and sweet Zeta are awesome. That girl is a ball hog, just like I used to be. Now, whenever Kat wants the ball, I give it up. She is my best friend, you know. I’ll bet you did the same for Zeta.
6:39 pm on January 6th, 2015
Good videos. We like the slow-mo action.
HOH, what are you drinking? Or smoking?
6:54 pm on January 6th, 2015
Barb, so far, we are innocent 🙂
6:56 pm on January 6th, 2015
Teddy RR: Love the videos and pictures of you and your gal playing in the snow! Looks like Zeta had a snow cone in her mouth…. :^)
7:06 pm on January 6th, 2015
HOH: Blondie made it to the home in which she was meant to be.
Teddy Ruff Rider: I love watching you and Zeta in slow motion!
No bags of frozen peppers and no boneless pork ribs. One more store to check but will be more likely to find the peppers when I go south for my MRI.
7:25 pm on January 6th, 2015
What a great slo-mo video of Teddy and Zeta!
8:10 pm on January 6th, 2015
Yes, Cats do yawn.
Scary, eh?
8:34 pm on January 6th, 2015
Teddy, you are such a movie star. And with a lovely leading lady!
Rio, did you watch the Masterpiece show on the manners of Downton Abbey. It was amazing the things they could and could not do. And for heavens sake, never, ever hug in public.
Mr. Cubbins sounds like he has found just the right home, sans wrotten kats.
My herd is all snoring around me, and Angie made me promise not to go to bed before 8. It is difficult. Guess I best see what is on the telly.
8:44 pm on January 6th, 2015
ML, great to hear from you with or withouf MTMP”s voice in the background. Maybe you should channel surf till you find something new and yucky or an old favorite. Mom has an Ian Rankin book going. Good stories but a bit too much politics and localisms. Mom says she has to think (heavens forbid!).
8:45 pm on January 6th, 2015
ML!…How about farting in public? What did they say about that, huh?…heh!heh!
8:46 pm on January 6th, 2015
Alice!….YIKES!…and….YEEEEEP!
8:52 pm on January 6th, 2015
ML, just stay here and talk to us. Or Macy with her delightful sharp tongue.
9:16 pm on January 6th, 2015
I’m afraid my tongue has gotten a bit dull from lack of use. I will keep an eye out (ick) for a chance to sharpen it.
9:31 pm on January 6th, 2015
I have missed Macy!
9:37 pm on January 6th, 2015
ML: I admit it will be a struggle for me to stay up until 8. That is 3 more hours and it’s been dark for hours!
9:42 pm on January 6th, 2015
Dark!…That is what gets me, the early darkness…sniff!…I want to crawl into my warm soft bed with all my toys in all the right places around 7:30….snort!…Like right now! But then again I need to stay up and keep my friend company snoring away at her feet….snorgle!
9:44 pm on January 6th, 2015
Oh wait! I read the clock wrong. It’s only an hour and 15 minutes. I can do that easy!
9:45 pm on January 6th, 2015
A quarter of ten in the eastern zone and we’re fading fast (unless we go outside and then was BARK at butterfly farts). Think we will say nighty night.
9:46 pm on January 6th, 2015
UP!…Someone here wants to stay up late because once she goes to sleep then the next thing she knows she is back at the busy-place being all stressed out….grunt!…Her and the Hotshot are not having a good time right now, no they are not…sniff!…If the new management pushes much further the both of them will walk out and then where will my treatie fund come from?…wheeze!….NO!NO!NO! this cannot happen, not yet…grunt!
9:47 pm on January 6th, 2015
“was” shold be WE , gah! Yawn, scratch, snort, zzzzzzzzzzzz
9:49 pm on January 6th, 2015
Worrit!…The things I am most worrit about right now are those tins of cookies sent up North like 2 years ago….grunt!….Where are they? What happened to them? Not even the goats have confessed to this horrible crime…sob!sob!sob!…I could have eaten those cookies – but now they are lost forever….wheeze!gasp!… forlorn!
9:52 pm on January 6th, 2015
Rio, Staff told me you wanted to hear from me (and Abbie) more. She said I had to get out of the closet and re-enter the world. Sniff.
Yesterday I tried to reenter the quilt room bed and one of the demons got up on the bed with me. Sheesh. But I am trying my best. This morning Mr.Fireslippers had a nap on the bed and those 2 dog-gone kittens were up there right next to him. But I was brave. I got up on the bed at the very foot and stayed there!
9:57 pm on January 6th, 2015
Alice, stay brave. Be bold. I am rooting for you.
9:58 pm on January 6th, 2015
Alice!….I think if you yawned at those two ding-dong kittens they would know who was in charge once and for all….heh!heh!…Those are some mighty fine fangs you have there….yeeep!
9:58 pm on January 6th, 2015
Alice M Johnson, You’re the Kat!
10:02 pm on January 6th, 2015
10:04 pm on January 6th, 2015
Macy, nice to see you. Please show up more often!
Rio, If they had to go to their rooms to take off a hat, I am betting they would not toot in public. Civilized folks do not do that now!
10:06 pm on January 6th, 2015
We had 4 earthquakes today. Mom did not feel any of them, but of course, my dainty feet picked up every quiver. BTW it is 9 PM and we are checking out.
niters
10:25 pm on January 6th, 2015
Barb!…What? I toot all day long inside and outside…snort! Are you calling me an uncivilized Pug?…snuffle!…Have you met the HotShot? I bet not!…heh!
10:27 pm on January 6th, 2015
We are all caught up with Downton and The Good Wife…Now it’s back to Parenthood…which Nana started watching after The Gilmore Girls ended.
Nite, nite, Macy. We are right behind you and the Hounds – Bear
10:37 pm on January 6th, 2015
Rio, I would never call you uncivilized! Are you insinuating that The HotShot would toot in public? Surely not!
10:46 pm on January 6th, 2015
Civilized!…He is a civilized Hotshot….sniff!…If nothing else…heh!heh!
11:03 pm on January 6th, 2015
Rio – did the Hot Shot get some of your Friend’s Hot Stuff green chili? Is that what made it a bad day at the office?
11:17 pm on January 6th, 2015
Tupper!….Funny you should ask…heh!…The hotshot had a sample (a bowl full) of the batch before this batch my friend made….snort!…He ate it up like a regular chili…cough!…It was a very hot batch too. My friend was very impressed and promised to give him the recipe…snort!…So she did print it out (after a bit of editing) and he was very happy to get it…chuffle!…We are now waiting to hear about if he and his wife actually make it or not – sort of like we are waiting to hear if any of youse guys make it or not….chorkel!
11:20 pm on January 6th, 2015
Bad-Daze!…Those I hear tail are mainly because of much too heavy a work load and bad politics…grumble!…And an office that is freezing and has mice…gasp!
11:21 pm on January 6th, 2015
We are heading off to our warm, soft bed.
11:32 pm on January 6th, 2015
Sounds like your office needs a Kat or two. We happen to know where we can get some really Wrotten ones. Just give us the address of your office, and we’ll get them packages up and shipped right off to you.
11:40 pm on January 6th, 2015
KATS!…That’s what my friend needs to hire!…snort!…Please send your Kat-Resumes to me, Rio. I will go thru them and find the best suited Kat(s) for my friends busy-place…snort!…Post them on-line here for quick attention!…heh!heh!
11:58 pm on January 6th, 2015
Rio… Two resumes on the way. Will hunt for food. Must be allowed on tabletops, countertops and beds. Must be fed 6 times a day.
11:59 pm on January 6th, 2015
OH yeah, Must be allowed to knock all pens and pencils to the ground and chase them.
12:11 am on January 7th, 2015
I don’t know if this is Henry or Keiko, but whoever it is they are ready for the busy place.
12:22 am on January 7th, 2015
Look – two for the price of one postage stamp!

12:27 am on January 7th, 2015
Herbs: Who could resist your innocent “looking” faces.
Abbie: Your resume sounds like that of a much younger kat. Has someone stolen your avatar?
12:30 am on January 7th, 2015
Saying hello to everyone while they are beginning to go to bed. Busy day. My handy man is working out fine. Lots going on.
Just had a kitten adopted who will be picked up tomorrow evening. So only one left not spoken for. Mama is getting spayed early next week and I think she will be adopted soon after she recovers. So that will leave just the scared mama. I see her more and she hasn’t been hissing at me so I guess that is an improvement.
Sadie is tired of all the time I am spending with kats. She is trying to distract me with her squeaky toy. It is working…
1:11 am on January 7th, 2015
Hi to CHobbiti and Sadie…now off to bed.
9:36 am on January 7th, 2015
Hurrah! Finally I got a web site from where I can in fact obtain valuable information concerning my study and knowledge.
