Cody (More)

Many thanks to Barbara Williams Maccri for telling us a little more about Cody, Chet’s March Friend of the Month (in April this could be you – just send a photo to the FB page).

“Cody is just over 4 years old. We adopted him after his owner (a family friend) passed away. He has been a part of our family for just over a year.
He loves rides in cars and racing all around his back yard, barking with the neighbor dogs. He likes to carry around his toys too. He is very loved by us & our other pets. He is a good boy.
Thank you for picking Cody, Chet!”

Thanks, Barbara for sharing Cody’s story. With that face, how could he not be a good boy!

Another cloudy, snowy day but with Cody’s “good boy” face on the blog to cheer me up, all is well.

The sun is supposed to shine later today and there is borscht for breakfast! Life is good.

    Greetings to everyone!
As usual when the DDD is in Alaska the reindeer run because reindeer sausage is his favorite thing in the whole world I think.
    Loved Cody‘s story. He’s a lucky dog.
10% chance of snow today but Saturday and Sunday for the Ceremonial start and the restart we got a good chance for snow both days. City cruise had the cleaning ice off the sidewalks downtown. I am so glad!

Cody has heterochromia, two different colored eyes. His are very distinct. Diana’s is subtle since hers are brown and gold. I didn’t notice until she was about five months old.

Like Diana, I’m sure Cody doesn’t know and doesn’t care. He seems like a very happy guy. How lucky he is to have found a great second forever family.

So there is a Plunderer’s reunion in Alaska for the Iditarod? I made some changes to my Fantasymushers team. Not sure I’ll be able to see any of the Iditarod until after it is over if there is something posted on YouTube unless there is some live-streaming on the internet. I am moving forward to getting an OTA antenna mounted on my roof. It’s only been 8 years in the planning. Everything takes longer. Time seems to go slowly when you’re retired. I’m not in a hurry to do anything until I am. I won’t get the antenna up and working for a few weeks as there is a lot to do so I will miss watching the Iditarod on TV even if it is on any of the broadcast channels I will be able to get. So hoping I’ll be able to see something somewhere.

Mlaiuppa. The main Iditarod website is quite good. There is a lot you can see for free. You can also get a subscription to Iditarod Insider for about $35 (I think) which gives you access to everything.

Over the years a number of the Plunderers have ventured to the Iditarod. It started while Snowhook Kennels (A.J. Savidas) was running a team in the Iditarod, but has continued even after they stopped. Carol Harris (aka Hobbit) is a very welcoming hostess.

Mlaiuppa, check Iditarod.com . They have news, mushers, standings, videos.
They show updates and progress and news during the race.
Even when we are in AK during the race, we use this site for facts and inside info.
    It is worth it.
As regarding a Plunderers reunion, some of us head north some years. A.J. and Rebecca Savadis are Snowhook Kennels and although they no longer race, they use the dogs to do glacier tours for visitors to Alaska.
    It is a fascinating event!

Been looking around the Iditarod website for a while. Tried to buy a Togo shirt when I first got Freyja and learned about Leonhard Seppala but they were sold out of the XXL and still are.

I’ll watch the pre-race and ceremony then read the blog. I remember years ago ESPN or one of the sports networks used to broadcast the race in the afternoon, maybe it was the pre-race on Saturday. They did it for a few years, then I think they stopped. I don’t have cable any more so unless it is on an OTA public access or live on the internet I have to follow the blogs and news reports.

I looked into urban sledding thinking maybe Freyja and Diana might like to run as a little team on some hiking trails but the initial investment for equipment was a bit much for something they may not want to do. Freyja showed no interest in coursing so don’t know how much of a runner she might be, even if she is half husky. Maybe I’ll take my bike out to Scripps Lake and put them in regular harnesses with a leash and see how they like running with the bike. Then I can decide if it’s something they may want to do regularly. I remember my childhood dog, Cuppy, a Keeshond, used to love to run next to my bike, but we would only do it for about 3-4 blocks. She wasn’t exactly an athlete.
