Claude (Monet) Redux
“Here’s some good news,” Bernie says. “Remember that golden retriever, Claude, who got lost after being in a car wreck last month?”
I do not.
“Well, for one thing, it turns out his full name is Claude Monet, after the painter, I guess.” We know painters, of course, from when Leda had the whole house painted robin’s egg blue, inside and out. That was just before the divorce. “Anyway, the driver – charged with DUI – has been searching all over outer part of Cape Cod for Claude, and yesterday a woman cleaning a house in Truro spotted Claude in some bushes. She actually crawled to him, holding out a treat, and got a collar on him. The vet says Claude’s lost about fifteen pounds but is otherwise in pretty good shape. So: happy ending.”
One little thing, in case this ever comes up: if you’ve got a treat for me, there’s no need to crawl. It will only slow things down.

Oh Chet, you are cracking me up. First the "I do not" and then the last sentence. That's very good news about Claude.
5:04 am on November 6th, 2010
Good morning, Bee.
Rio – from yesterday: Catty's right. If I don't get to Chet during the day, by evening all the discussions are over. You and the daily bloggers are its heart and your ankle-nipping wit keeps everybody alert. Couldn't do it without your royal pugness…
P.S. Yea for us lurkers. Somehow we're part of supporting PSQA – and each other.
5:07 am on November 6th, 2010
Heh!…Chet is funny today…. snort!….I wonder if Claude Monet went back to the one who lost him in the first place….grump!…I hope he thinks twice about riding around town in her car….sniff!
5:12 am on November 6th, 2010
BluKat!… I don’t think of you as a Lurker. You are on the Quilt for gosh sakes!…snort!… Truth is even I lurked for about 2 days trying to see how I could jump in here… sniff!… Thanks for your kind words above…sniffle!
5:17 am on November 6th, 2010
Bluecat, you aren't a lurker. You talk to us. (Not that there's anything wrong with lurkers. I understand the "shy student" attitude.) And good morning.
It was fun reading the comments from last night when many were able to come back on the blog. (Good work Rio!)
LizF: It was great to hear from you again. I'm curious about the American who is on your baseball team.
Mollypop: I'm concerned about the fountain in Amherst. Those bubbles looked like soapsuds.
5:36 am on November 6th, 2010
Chet, you are marvelous. You are so upfront about life (and exactly the same as the Pack when it comes to treats!)
I just went to the Creamery (four miles away, closest to us, other than that it's 25 miles away, and yes, Staff, Alice and Abby, I know you are even further) and there in the parking lot was a pickup piled up with sled dogs! (All safely attached and very happy) They were going up to Notchview (The Trustees of Reservations) Park and going to be mushing. No snow, but they are training with a ATV. Just wonderful! I swear they were all grinning.
I also am grinning because the all natural ice cream we buy had new flavors!
5:39 am on November 6th, 2010
So Morning all, those bubbles in the waterfall remind me of the time we put bubbles bath in the jacuzzi for YSAS when he was little. Different house than now. He closed up the shower door and you could NOT see him for the bubbles which got to be about two and a half feet high. He had a wonderful time. It was after that we read the directions and it said under no circumstances should you use bubble bath.

Books!… We aren’t reading this morning because someone is afraid she will miss yet another hair appointment….snort!…. That’s one place you will never catch me. A beauty parlor…. Sniff!… I’m a Wash and Wear kind of guy. No fuss no muss. In and out of the tub…grunt!….Good for another month or so…heh!
5:51 am on November 6th, 2010
Good morning, everyone. Lots of humor this morning.
Bluecat, You are not a lurker. Lurkers just read and don't post, at least in my opinion.
Beautiful day here, but cold.
Melanie, what kinds of ice cream did you get?
6:06 am on November 6th, 2010
A happy ending for Claude! That makes us happy. I get quite Poodled up about this stuff.
B. – Those are soap bubbles. People were laughing because the bubbles were blowing across the street while cars were stopped at the signal.
6:23 am on November 6th, 2010
Melanie: Thank you for the description of the grinning sled dogs. I'll keep thinking about them all day…happy learning their vocation.
Mollypop: I hope they can get the fountain back to normal.
Rio: What book are you on? (After the hair appointment.)
Here is a good site on Juncos for anyone interested. It includes some video and audio.

Ginger, Vanilla and Mud Pie ice cream!
7:02 am on November 6th, 2010
Chet, Thank you for letting us know that Claude has been found and is okay. Unlike Chet, I remembered the Claude story. Claude's owner must love him very much, and I hope the lady has learned her lesson about drinking and driving.
I'm glad that those of you that were missing in action have showed up on the blog. Bluecat, you are not a lurker. You are one of us.
Chet being his usual funny self, Claude is found and okay, and grinning sled dogs. What a great way to start the morning!
Trust me, Melanie, those sled dogs were grinning.
Not sled dog weather here..suppose to get up to 70 degrees, but that is much better than 100 degrees.
7:04 am on November 6th, 2010
Mud Pie ice cream sounds interesting. Chocolate and what else?
7:24 am on November 6th, 2010
I found the Canberra Cavalry's website. It is orange like the San Francisco Giants site. The Sat. night game is sold out.
Rio, we have at least one Australian here playing major league ball because I have heard him interviewed on a MLB website. I just don't know who he is. The video went by so quickly.
Macy, I hope your mom is doing better. I know you will do a good job of looking after her.
8:15 am on November 6th, 2010
Hey everybody! I saw I was on the AWOL list, but it's not my fault! Mom is still getting tired every night after getting up to walk at 5 in the morning. She keeps falling asleep in front of the tv after dinner and forgetting to turn the computer on for me! The good news is that she's lost almost 10 pounds so far — although she's still pretty fluffy! — and her blood pressure has gone way down.
Right now we're watching my girl's Clemson Tigers play — they're behind right now, 7-0. Any chance I can talk you baseball fans into watching football? And I DON'T mean soccer! My Iowa Hawkeyes are playing, too, but not on tv. They just had the ball on the 4-yard line but didn't score. Dagnabit!!! So we're tied with Indiana 6-6.
8:38 am on November 6th, 2010
MagPie and Barb: Mud Pie ice cream . . Fresh coffee fudge ripple with chocolate sandwich cookies!
8:49 am on November 6th, 2010
Mom and Dad finally figured out the problem: They forgot to put my special Iowa collar on! So now it's on and we're in the second half, and I'm just hoping it's not too late!
Oh, and I was thinking about Claude the other day. I'm glad he was found, but I hope his mom is more careful in the future! And I'm with Chet — quick treats are much better than slow treats!
8:52 am on November 6th, 2010
Melanie: That ice cream sounds pretty good, only I'm not much of a coffee drinker! I do like chocolate, but it's pretty hard to get my paws on any, because Mom keeps saying it's not good for me. I beg to differ — it's very good to me!
8:52 am on November 6th, 2010
Kirby, I think we are open to suggestions on football teams to follow. As for college football, mom and I always root for the colleges that have vet schools…Colorado State, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M.
8:58 am on November 6th, 2010
Kirby: The Pack also thinks that chocolate is good for them.
Bluecat: You are not a lurker. You are one that just thinks a lot before you say something. 🙂
9:22 am on November 6th, 2010
Siber-H: You can add Iowa State to that list. It's not my school, but my Grandpa used to teach there!
9:24 am on November 6th, 2010
Dan watches one of the Michigan teams. Not sure which one.
9:34 am on November 6th, 2010
Melanie, Barb didn't think I should have any of that Mud Pie stuff, but she would love some. She said she would throw some nuts on top, too.
9:37 am on November 6th, 2010
Michigan State has a vet school.

Good news! Iowa and Clemson both won!!! Wooo woooo!!!

Three cheers for Patsy and Me!!!
I have received in the mail a large dog retractible leash. I've been planning this for awhile. I can't walk the younger and more active dogs because of my knee. I trained Patsy when she was small and we are in tune with each other.
Off we went down the street! She would walk with me (slowly) and might go ahead or stay behind for important smells. I limped along with the cane. Now she is trained to look for commands. I use my hands and head and voice. So I might look at her and then nod my head to the left and she'll go left. It's pretty cool.
We made it all the way to the horses, where she was an absolute angel. She sat for a treat. Redfield did not know what to make of this. He tossed up his heels and ran, then looked back to see if Patsy was going to do anything. Patsy was just sitting. So finally he came up all the way to the fence and just watched her. I praised her and we started back. Then the guys working on a neighbor's house came out and met her. She drooled happily on them. They asked if she weighed 180 lbs. I said, nope just 135. They said that was more dog than they could handle. Of course, they were saying this to a "woman of a certain age" that was walking with a cane. Snort! as a certain Pug would say.
I let Patsy loose in the orchard. She scarfed down some apples and then we went to the cliff. The beavers have been busy below us. They've almost gnawed through a huge tree.
I's so proud of her and me. I haven't been able to do this for over a year!!!
10:34 am on November 6th, 2010
B.Stover: It's the University of Michigan that he cheers. He went there before he met Zoë and then transferred to University of Chicago.
10:39 am on November 6th, 2010
DebbieLM!…. My friend wanted me to tell you something…snort!… We have just invested in a Craft.….Sadly, she knew Quilting would be so far out of her realm of craftiness that she has forever put that idea aside….grunt!…Instead she is going to learn how to Quill….sniff!… Paper ….cough!….She just ordered a Book, a Starter Kit and two different Work Boards for this Quilling… gruff!….Sounds like Quilting but takes a lot less craftiness….heh! …I will report on her progress if the stuff ever arrives in the (shudder) mail….grunt!
10:43 am on November 6th, 2010
Melanie: That is wonderful! I bet Patsy loved it. I wonder how many dams the beavers have on your river. When I was reading an article on them it said that they build more than the "residence" dam. Say Hi to Dan and Zoe for me.
10:47 am on November 6th, 2010
Melanie: Ixnay on the ainingtray! I think my mom and dad would be thrilled if I walked that well on a leash, but there are too many good smells in the world! I'm glad you and Patsy were able to take a walk together, but don't give Mom and Dad any ideas! That signaling thing…not gonna happen here! I'm the one who has them trained!!!
10:53 am on November 6th, 2010
Kirby – The power of your special Iowa collar is awesome!
11:13 am on November 6th, 2010
Rio: Does quilling mean calligraphy? I used to do that.
11:14 am on November 6th, 2010
Stover!… We are still reading The Mother Hunt by Rex Stout… grunt!…Haven’t picked it up since she was sick…sneeze!… But right now we have some time before we go out to the Farm and see Pepper!….woooo!… I love going to the farm! I can’t wait!…wheeze!
11:17 am on November 6th, 2010
Stover!… Nope!…. This is all about cutting and rolling paper….sniff!…That’s about the extent of her talents….grunt!
11:17 am on November 6th, 2010
Bee: Mom says quilling is when you take long, narrow strips of paper and curl them into a spiral, then put a bunch of them together to make a design.
11:17 am on November 6th, 2010
Oh no, Rio! A double post!
11:25 am on November 6th, 2010
Ok, you guys, mom and I will add Iowa State and Michigan State to our list. NM doesn't have a vet school…bummer.
Melanie, I'm glad you and Patsy had a nice walk. Mom said to tell Patsy that she is a "Good Girl!" I would have been well-behaved until the encounter with the horse.
11:29 am on November 6th, 2010
Kirby and Rio: More than a double post! You were both answering my question. Quilling sounds interesting. I'd like to see pictures of some of the finished product.
11:29 am on November 6th, 2010
Kirby!…A Double Quilling Post!…snort!
11:29 am on November 6th, 2010
Melanie, Glad you had such a nice time with Patsy.
Rio, Have fun with Pepper.
We are watching Queen with Halle Berry, and then later we are ordering a pizza. Yum!
11:29 am on November 6th, 2010
Melanie: Wow, I hope Dan didn't have heart palpitations watching the Michigan game today! It went into triple overtime, with Michigan finally beating Illinois 67-65!!!
11:30 am on November 6th, 2010
Oh No!… A Double Double Quilling Post…shudder!

Four!… Posts in the same minute is a Record!… Yeep!
11:36 am on November 6th, 2010
SH: I think that University of Michigan has a better football team than Michigan State (as you know, I really don't know what I'm talking about). However, U of M does not have a vet school.
11:39 am on November 6th, 2010
Stover!… It will be sometime before she has a first finished product… snort!… I will keep you posted…heh!
11:45 am on November 6th, 2010
Bee: Normally Michigan has a better team than Michigan State — it's usually down to Michigan or Ohio State for the Big 10 championship. But the last few years Michigan has been on the skids. This year Michigan State is in the running for the Big 10 championship, with a 5-1 conference record (Iowa being the one loss!!!), but Michigan is totally out of it with a 2-3 record.
11:51 am on November 6th, 2010
Pepper!… Here I come!…gruff!
12:29 pm on November 6th, 2010
Thank you Kirby. I'm remembering past glories I think.
SH: Kirby knows.
1:04 pm on November 6th, 2010
We're big University of Texas fans, who are in the toilet this year after playing for the national championship last year (lost it though). No vet school there. Our aunt went to TCU so we often cheer for them and they have been awesome both last year and this year. We also cheer for University of Arkansas because Mom's human nieces went there. And Mom's brother lives in Ann Arbor and is a big U of Michigan fan so we usually cheer for them to win. Kirby, we know a little more about football than baseball so we will always talk about it.
Those of you who were complaining about your pro teams should try to be a sports fan in Houston. We always suck…doesn't matter what type of sport, but bad we are. Sometimes we improve to mediocre, but that's about it.
We are having our first taste of fall and the cooler weather is wonderful. Yesterday evening we had deer in the backyard and a grey fox. First time we had ever seen one of those. Then we found out he was messing with the fresh grave. But Dad is too smart for him. He took good care when he buried Gimpy and the fox didn't do much…just nosed around.
1:53 pm on November 6th, 2010
Does anyone remember what day Melanie posted pics of the beaver damage at her place? We didn't get to see the pics at the time and would like to go back and look at them.
1:59 pm on November 6th, 2010
Melanie that is a lovely story.
Canberra Cavalry lost their first game last night, beaten by Sydney 1-0. We are officially bottom of the ladder! I can't find out who the Atlanta player is – Rio, you'll have to get that info, you're on top of these things. Their website is too slow to load…
Bluecat – i'm a lapsed lurker.
2:08 pm on November 6th, 2010
LizF…I am glad you have joined us! The score of the Canberra Cavalry's game tells me that there was some very good pitching by both teams. 1-0 isn't that bad at all.
Gus&BooBear, Maybe Stover can tell you how to find the pictures. She is good at finding all sorts of stuff on this blog. Hopefully, Melanie can post some more photos of the Beavers' construction. I could help Melanie out with the beaver problem if I were there…as long as I didn't have to go in the water after them.
2:14 pm on November 6th, 2010
This is why it's good to chat to People Who Know, because i looked at the score and thought it sounded like a boring game.
2:34 pm on November 6th, 2010
Ummm, Siber-H, Would love your help, but they are eating trees right next to the river right now.
Gus & BooBear: I will get new pictures tomorrow. I don't remember when I posted them.
LizF: Thanks!

Dear Rio = please tell your friend that I am a big fan of most crafts but that I absolutely disagree with her that she is not up to quilting. She is a natural fiber artist and should be exceptionally proud of the beautiful, creative blocks she made for THE quilt. From someone deeply involved in quilting I mean this sincerely and hope she might think about giving it another chance! All quilting/fiber arts DO NOT rely on expert sewing. The best quilts I have seen are often made by people with little sewing experience. One woman in my guild (who is also an MD – in her spare time LOL) NEVER sews but makes the most exquisite fiber art quilts. I teach quilting to different levels of quilter and believe me the hardest parts are color and composition – you have a very natural talent for those artistic elements. BTW I thought the card was hilarious!
2:55 pm on November 6th, 2010
G&BB: Melanie posted a couple of pictures on the Oct. 2 blog titled "Sestina." If you type sestina in the tag search box you should be able to get there.

You go Debbie!!
I'm going to bed. I know it's early and tomorrow this will even be early or later or something.
I hate time change. I say we split the difference, go 30 minutes back and then stop switching around twice a year.

Wait, I forgot . .
Claude, I'm glad you're back and safe. I've been googling you and never saw anything and was getting worried.
Keep those keys from your friend's hand if she decides to drive when she shouldn't.
Take care.

I located the rooster of the players on the Canberra team. There are several Americans playing…there is an infielder from Roswell, New Mexico (my state) on the team. I'm impressed with the number of Australians who have played in the Major Leagues here in the States, but are now playing for Canberra. One of them was a New York Yankee.
3:04 pm on November 6th, 2010
G&BB – Go to Melanie's blog to see lots of beaver damage. Just click on Melanie's name on her post above, then go to Check our Log. Her pictures are amazing!

LizF!…I could have sworn I read something about one of the players being signed to the Altanta Braves….snort!… I will do more research later, now I just need to lie on something soft and warm…sniffle!

Melanie: That collar sounds great. Patsy is wonderful to respond to your commands. Especially with a horse around.
Gus and Boo Bear: My sympathies for your older sister cat.
Rio: You are the sticky glue that holds us together and sometimes makes us mad.
Tried for over 40minutes to get on this blasted computer this morning. Something is wrong with the "guest" log on, so my Dad is letting me use his log on briefly, to admit this machine has gotten the better of me so I won't be around much for awhile. Sob.
Lurker's and non-lurker's Welcome

Welcome to all the new people! It's a little scary to jump in but once you do, you will find that it is a warm and wonderful place to be. Me and mom, we love it here.
Abbie, thank you for you sweet thoughts. Yes, the boys have been out of control but now the Authorities have stepped in and hopefully our lives will be sane again one of these days. Mom has been very sad and so have I but…..well, you know. A dog and a mom can only do so much…..

MagPie!… I did have fun fun fun!…heh!…Once we were there I immediately ate all of Pepper’s food, grabbed her toys and hid them behind the chair …heh!… Then I begged for all the treats cuz she was outside watching someone work on a pickup truck…grunt!…When she came in I bit her ears and growled mightily at her for approaching her water bowl… heh! …Her food bowl was empty so that’s all she had left….burp!… I ask you, how much fun can one guy have in a few hours?? The farm is the best place to be in the whole wide world! …wheeze!

Oh for pete's sake.
Can't this count for Alice Johnson and Staff too?
Maybe tomorrow Staff can post pictures of the 6 month old "Buster" the dog who CAME INTO OUR HOUSE!!! today. He is part Maltese and part something else that might be Lapso Alpo or something. He has eyes like Sammy so I think they feed him table food.
I don't know why Staff let him in. It was bad enough that she let in 2 human children and their two adults. They found me under the bed in the spare bedroom but Staff wouldn't let them chase me when I ran away. Thank dog.
I complained and complained after they finally left. sheesh!
