Christmas Stroll in Chatham
Chatham Mass. – a lovely town on Cape Cod, with plenty of seals (and great whites) right off the beach. Every December they have a Christmas Stroll. This year it’s on Saturday and Spence will be there, signing, paw-printing, swimming with the sharks.* Where? Yellow Umbrella Books, 1-3 PM.

Good morning, everyone! Oooo, Spence, bundle up and button up your overcoat! Have fun and take your Airborne.
Is it Thursday yet?

Good morning all.

BSD, sometimes you put so much day pressure on us it seems like mom’s pea brain will melt down. Heh, heh, heh We know she can’t remember what day it is without looking at the ifone 🙂

Good Morning. Just caught up on last nights doings. Sounds like Macy had quite a party.
Maggie & Lucy, Howie is a very small basset. He is also thin. He has perfect form, just in a smaller size. The basset Mom had years ago stayed at about 55 pounds and he was not a big basset either. After Howie is settled in, Mom may decide he needs a companion and will consider Otis then (if he is still available).

Greetings all and sundry.
We think we will stay safely inland where the sharks won’t get us.
Today is Cubby’s 3 week V e t checkup. Wonder what they will think of the new and improved Bartholomew Cubbins.
11:14 am on December 11th, 2014
BooBear, congrats on the new housemate. Remember, he not a usurper, he’s a member of the family.
CubKat, good luck at the v e t!

Who turned on the snow? And the wind? Ugh…Leno and I just had a nice (ahem. … For very loose definitions of the word nice) stroll to the pharmacy. At least there are only a couple inches of snow maybe. At least Leno stopped for all the curbs. We are quite frozen a mile and a half later.
11:20 am on December 11th, 2014
Party! Oh, my poor head…darn that Redbone Hound with his jug of shine!

*SMH* My comment is awaiting moderation. And not a link to be seen. And not even any bad words. Good morning, stay warm y’all 🙂

Oh. Maybe it was the American word for chemist. So, let’s try this.

Buddy, if it is that cold, please be sure Leno is dressed for it 🙂
11:32 am on December 11th, 2014
Yup, Buddy- you figured out the word. And you didn’t even have to mention that your s h o e s got frozen.
We just received our perfect gift for our v e t. We got the sweet Santa statue from the boutique ( thanks BlueKat!). We will take it to the vet along with CubKat.

If youse are cold come sit by the fire.
11:37 am on December 11th, 2014
The thing is, it’s not too awful. Sure, it’s cold enough for snow to stick, but the wind is really what does us in. Leno’s all good…everyone’s all thawed out and everything. Hey, a fire! Hmm. Hot chocolate or hot tea? This is the important question.
11:42 am on December 11th, 2014
Buddy – chocolate or tea???? Surely there is only one real choice there. Besides, who ever heard of marshmallows slowly sinking down and giving up their sweet creaminess to a cup of tea?
11:57 am on December 11th, 2014
You make an interesting point.

Oooo- wait. We have to rethink the tea/chocolate thing again. Right now, a lovely cup of tea sounds just perfect. Especially since Mama just got a surprise package of the adorable little tea duckie from the boutique.
The note said it was from an *anonymous friend and fellow Plunderer. So, whoever is being anonymous, THANK YOU!!!!!! We loved that little tea duckie and we promise to make use of him often.

Ah shore am glad ‘ol Redbone Hound secured the perimeter of Macy’s house last night. A’hm still full of cookies this morning. Hope Macy’s Mom managed to get a couple for herself! I picked up a bit of his Southern accent.
I would love to visit Chatham, Massachusetts, just not today. I will follow that link to Yellow Umbrella books.
Last night a Christmas tree was procured and decorated. I was allowed to hang the Beatles and the Maurice Sendak ornaments and many glass balls. Fun!

Hey, Dawson! Are you still Due South?
2:11 pm on December 11th, 2014
BluKat, Mom wants to apologize for the delay in sending the bracelet. She was sitting there last night wondering when her stuff would get there and realized that, holy Toledo, she hasn’t even boxed hers up to send. All sold items that have been cleared by Rebecca to mail will be sent tomorrow by priority mail. Mom will let you know tracking numbers.
If this is what the prospect of getting a dog is doing to her, what will she be like when he is here? I don’t think this is a good idea at all.

BearSpiritDog: I am still in rainy Bellingham. The weather cat has mentioned that it is supposed to be nice tomorrow but I will be heading North by then. Luckily, the sun will be shining for my return home, although the temps will not be as warm. I have not seen the sun for a week so it will be a welcome sight indeed.

BlueKat – your Santa was a hit at the V E T’s office. He is now sitting right up front on the reception counter. The woman coming in with her doggie spotted it right away and wanted to know the folks got it.
The receptionist told her that Cubbins brought it. tee hee
5:01 pm on December 11th, 2014
CubKat is now on the V E T’s TopKat list and sure to get the very best of service.
Thinking of Wolfie and other friends in Northern Climes being pelted by sheet of rain.
Hope youse are high up and Out of Harm’s Way.

T&G’s Mama – I’m glad they liked the Santa. Cubbins will be famous in the office as a giver. Hope he got a good v*e*t report, too.
BooBear – As long as it gets here by the 25th, no worries. Please tell you mom all is well. We had a neighbor dog, Gertie, a basset. She was a sweetheart. Lucky Howie to find a forever home with kats.
HOH- nice weather-related poetry today. Stay safe, Everybody.

Rio, did she make it gluten free?
5:48 pm on December 11th, 2014
Does the above message mean that the first to order cookies will get substandard ones?
Staff, we think that too but are sure someone with good taste will get those things that are still available soon.
5:58 pm on December 11th, 2014
Cookies!…All of these Boutique Cookies are the best. The first recipe was the one the Giant tested and Approved. Someone here thinks these turned out better…heh!heh!burp!

We think it is celeriac
6:52 pm on December 11th, 2014
check it out on a search engine. Celeriac is a great alternative starch that is very low in calories
6:57 pm on December 11th, 2014
Do we win a prize if we’re right? A big Zeus kiss maybe?
7:00 pm on December 11th, 2014
T & G, we were just coming back to say that we were sure it was celeriac! It can be peeled and sauteed or mashed like potatoes. It is the celery root I believe. Popular in Turkey as a side dish.
7:01 pm on December 11th, 2014
This CSA is a learning experience. They have some weird stuff!
7:09 pm on December 11th, 2014

7:20 pm on December 11th, 2014
Hey, does runner up get anything?
7:20 pm on December 11th, 2014
Besides the celeraic, this week’s csa had brussels sprouts, turnips (again), onions, squash, lettuce, and spinach.
Tonight, they are eating a Will Clower cabbage salad from last week’s csa.
7:24 pm on December 11th, 2014
Maggie and Lucy, you are 2 of the 4 I will be kissing.

8:13 pm on December 11th, 2014
Rio – everything looks so pretty in the pictures; it’s a cozy scene. Mom’s envious of your large poinsettias. I chew on ’em, so she has dinky plants up where I don’t climb.
Do I see another, smaller pug on the chair? Snort!
Staff does make wonderful pillows.

We are watching the 200th show on Bones. They are doing a flashback to the 40s. Pretty cool.
Did someone say on the blog that they had seen the movie Birdman, and thought it was really bad? Can’t remember if we heard it here or somewhere else. Anyway, it just got nominated for a lot of awards today.
Tonight is the series finale for Gracepoint. Can’t wait!
8:59 pm on December 11th, 2014
Golinka!…You are very lucky to have that unique and awesome Tea Duckie!…Wow!…Tea time will never be the same. No not ever…heh heh!
9:04 pm on December 11th, 2014
We found it!
A Christmas Carol with Alistair Sims is on right now on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries channel (HMM)
We are transfixed!
9:12 pm on December 11th, 2014
It was Wose who did not like Birdman.
Over and out. ZZZzzzzzzz
9:13 pm on December 11th, 2014
Rio, Beautiful tree and poinsettias.
9:39 pm on December 11th, 2014
Rio, I am quite proud that you have the dog pillow under the tree. I did think of you as soon as I saw that dog fabric with all the pugs on it. snicker.
I considered trying to do a pug dog pillow but the directions said to use the cat design and then make a few alterations and I KNEW that Rio would not accept a Cat/Pug into his home no matter what.
9:54 pm on December 11th, 2014
Gah!….Making a Pug out of a Kat…gasp!…Who would create such a design?….yeeep!
9:56 pm on December 11th, 2014
Here is the picture of Howie from the rescue site that convinced Mom.

10:13 pm on December 11th, 2014
Howie is absolutely adorable! Who could say no to that face. I think he will fill out a little after he gets settled.
Watched the end of Gracepoint. Boy, sure didn’t see that one coming!
So now the girls are heading outside one more time for a little recon, and then we are off to bed, where visions of sugarplums will dance in our heads.
10:22 pm on December 11th, 2014
Howie!…I think Howie and I could become really good friends if he can type and has a guys voice (not a Kat’s voice – poor fellow)…snort!
10:30 pm on December 11th, 2014
Howie! Can’t wait to meet you, pal. We can show you the ropes about dealing with a bunch of Wrotten Kats.
HMM has succeeded in ruining this movie. They have a commercial every 5 minutes – even if it right in the middle of a scene. They should be ashamed.
10:37 pm on December 11th, 2014
Stover!…We here found a new show OnDemand that is looking promising…heh!…It is called, “The Game” and offered up by BBC which is available to us without any other secret charges…snort!…So far it is looking very good..heh!heh!
12:25 am on December 12th, 2014
What, is that BBC America, or some online thingy? How come the Brits have better TV shows than we do, I just wanna know.
2:50 am on December 12th, 2014
Hello All,
Hopefully this holiday season finds all of you well. We here at the kennel are thinking of all of you and hoping you are all in good spirits.
By way of an update for training. We finally have enough snow to run sleds instead of four wheelers. Sort of. We had about 16 inches fall but that compacted down to about 4 and now with warmer weather it’s about 2 inches deep in places. None the less, we are getting out there and training daily. Right now I’m running about 4 hours everyday with the team. At least that’s the average. Soon we will be jumping that number all the way up to 8 hours which is our target goal for running in Iditarod. I’m feeling a good about the team and they are stronger than I’ve ever had them before. We would like it to cool down and snow a little though before Iditarod this year.
In the near future much has to happen to get the team ready from not only a training point of view but also a logistical point as well. Coming up we’ve got food drops to get ready for my team as well as teaching Phil how to do his own. That means cutting up nearly 4000 pounds of meat into little 1/4 inch squares. The dogs also receive a vet check as well as each dog receiving an EKG and blood tests to ensure health. And of course the many other little details that go into this race. 87 days to get it all done.
At least every day is interesting. This week I’ve put in trails with the dogs which means they break open the trail for the first time after a new snow fall. In this case for the first time this season. I’ve picked up 2000 pounds of fish and it’s all finally put away. That is after all a lot of fish to have all over the driveway. And on and on.
I’m dropping off here so I’ll wrap things up. Training is going well. Pray for more snow except to fall on my driveway. I find it pays to be specific about this point and of course thank you as always for your support.
All the best,
AJ
6:46 am on December 12th, 2014
Thanks for the update, AJ. I am so excited to see for this year’s Iditarod. Will Rio Jr. be on your team?
I hope I have not distracted him from getting into tiptop shape.
Howie looks like a very special boy. His soulful eyes would melt any heart.
Rio, what is wrong with a Kat’s voice, anyhow? Huh????
