Chris Brown

“Who’s Chris Brown?” Spence says.

“No clue on that,” says Admin. “But he has an appealing-looking rescue puppy, name of Chief.”

Good luck with the doc, Amalia.

Chris Brown, yes his new pup is adorable. Let’s hope his anger management classes have worked, and he is kinder to his dogs than he was with Rihanna. Don’t have much respect for her for taking him back after he messed up her face a few years ago. She is not a good role model for young women.

OK you bird experts out there, Attention! This little guy hit the window at Kelly’s this mrning. At first they thought he was dead, but now he is sitting on the patio. If he is still there late, Kelly will try to pick him up and take hime to her bird rehabber. Hopefully he will fly away. We have consulted our bird book and can not identify him. Does anyone know what species he might be?

I didn’t know who Chris Brown was either until I read the posts and my memory was refreshed. We will look on the bright side….It is good publicity for adopting a rescue dog.

I want those doctors to figure out what is wrong with Amalia’s knee and get it fixed, NOW. If it weren’t illegal, which it is, I would suggest she go to a vet.

We have a historic hedge lining the front of the house. From what I can tell the thing hasn’t been touched since the house was built. A little trimming here and there, but not a proper hair cut.

Here is the hedge untouched. As you can see it is taking over everything.

Here’s a link to an interesting article on Professor Moriarty.

SPOILER ALERT if you haven’t seen the first season final episode of Elementary: What I find interesting is that the writers of the show combined Irene Adler and Moriarty. (Because she “loves” Holmes she can never kill him. Is that the reason for the combination?) Conan Doyle, or course, kills him off; also, in the original there is no love interest between Adler and Holmes. She outwits him and that is why he calls her “The Woman” in Scandal in Bohemia. Since “Moriarty” hasn’t been killed off in the series, perhaps she’ll be back next season.

Chet, I guess they were serious when they said they didn’t know who Chris Brown was! It’s OK, he still has a cute dog, and maybe he isn’t all bad. We would pick him over Michael Vick any day!

We will hope that in his next life, Chris Brown comes back as a soccer ball. At a reform school full of violent, angry and aggressive sports enthusiasts. AND, we hope he gets left out in the rain, and gets reinflated every time he gets flattened, just to be kicked around some more.
And as for this life, we hope one of his extraneous body parts falls off.

Anyway, doctor #4 has a whole new theory about Mama’s knee. He thinks it is all in her back, and has ordered another MRI. AND different meds. AND he wants her to go to doctor #5.

What’s going on here? Don’t these doctors have enough to do without them bouncing patients from one to the next?

    Sheesh.

Kelly is busy working on her Karma this week by doing some critter rescue. Yesterday she saw a turtle right by the white line at the side of the highway. By the time she stopped and ran back for it some numskull had managed to hit it (what’s with people, do they pay no attention to their surroundings?) She took him home and repaired some minor shell breakage with super glue and then they released him. At least he has a chance now!

Hate to tell you this Golinka, but that is what happened to me. Ended up with nine different docs telling nine different things. It took the tenth one to figure it out.
I wrote a poem about it. It was pretty depressing though.

Barb, I do believe it is a Box Hedge. Today at the bottom of the second hedge, Deb found a mutation. It was a variegated leaf stem. Not big, but she’s taking it home to see if she can grow it!

She also found a lot of mold. Letting the air and sunlight shine on those trunks and branches should fix that.

Today, I have planted coleus near The Raven’s grave. Should be very pretty. The chipmunk scolded me as I was near his territory.

I figured I was safe planting that even before “the date” is correct. It is under some trees and that would help shelter them.

Then I BATTLED the carpola beetles. The little wasp things that eat them have multiplied. I am getting a new spray in tomorrow. Organic and I’ll try that.

I also listened to YSAS’s advice on how to plant some garlic. I buy some organic garlic, pull apart the cloves and plant those. Much better than getting thousands of seeds.

    Storm coming. Time to rest.

Melanie, YSAS is right about Garlic. Now here is the other thing. You plant it in the fall (August is late enough) and harvest it the next summer. It overwinters. Yes even here in zone 3A. You can try the normal spring-fall season, but plant another head (of separated cloves) in the fall just to cover yourself.

The brown thrasher was pecking bits off the suet and they would fall to the ground. He had a whole herd of Goldfinches feeding down there. Then he dropped down to pick them up himself. Boy did they scatter.

The Scarlet Tanager is back. I have been looking but so far haven’t seen a female. They are camouflaged though. Very hard to recognize.

We read that a group of Magnolia Warblers is called a corsage. Who comes up with this stuff?

Melanie, We always buy bulbs for onions, shallots and garlic. Never seeds. They take way too long. The shallots and garlic both can be planted by pulling apart the bulbs. If you buy shallots at the garden center, they are already separated. You can even plant your kitchen garlic if you have kept it too long and it has started to sprout. We have overwintered it too, as Staff suggested.

We planted onion “sets” 3-4 weeks ago. They are almost ready to pull as green onions or scallions. $1.99 for 100. Jessica planted seeds and they look like tiny blades of grass.

We have planted our four tomato plants and 15 potato starts. Also put in some parsley and found some more chives that had been dug up by the master digger, Mr.Staff. He is almost as good at digging as Mr.Husky.

Then I went to ‘town’ because another sewing machine addict was passing through. We toured Faye’s Henhouse Quilt shop and looked at all her vintage machines and then we went to supper. (Dinner is at noon here in the heartland)

When I came home there was a tree down in the lane so Mr.Staff had to get out his chain saw which was so dull we were still trying to cut up tiny branches when his neighbor came down the lane in his HUGE tractor. He hooked a chain up to the tree, it is half an old cottonwood, and pulled it to the side. Those tractors are useful things.

He said he would come back with his ‘loader’ and push it into the ditch like area so people coming down the lane tonight would not hit it. Loaders are very useful too. So we went home. I don’t know why Mr.Staff wanted to go home because the Twins were already down 2 runs to zip in the first inning.
