Chickens Sans Heads

“That’s us today,” says Admin.

“Therefore no post?” says Spence.

“Exactly. We don’t even have time to say no post.”

    First?
    Cool!

I’m going in to see Zoë this morning. She was doing pretty good yesterday. OTAS and GLAD said they had a loving time with her. Just as we were sitting down to eat Zoë called. She was having a panic attack. They hadn’t given her the anxiety medication.

I called my sister and she asked if I wanted to deal with it. I said no. Dinner was almost on the table, and Zoe had tried to reach her first.

    My sister dealt with it.

    Off to the poop yard!

Melanie: I don’t know whether to give mom the anxiety medication or take it myself. She is talking about beavers, buffalo, prairies and Apaches this morning.

Good morning all. Very cold here but sunny for a change.

Melanie, what did they make for dinner? Will Zoe stay in the hospital till she comes home, or will she transition to a rehab facility first?

I GOT A RAT! I GOT A RAT! Mama says I am the best husky on the planet!

Good Morning. Sounds like anxiety meds around is called for.
We here are chickens sans heads as well…company on their way and much work remains. In Melanie’s words: TTFN

Good job Kat. Surely they will have to allow you full Husky status now.

I helped mom, and now all presents are wrapped. Now I will need to help clean the house. I am not sure how she expects us to help when we were all herded out the door.

Greetings from the middle of the mitten dear plunderers. Mom made a egg and cheese omelet and then took her medication as well. She believes in better living through chemstry.

Draco blew through here yesterday and left me some snow on the ground.

Mom is sewing and listening to a cable channel with “classic” Christmas music. She heard a singer named Matt Belsante that she LOVED. Same genre as Michael Buble, for which she has great fondness. Of course, mom says the ultimate Christmas song is Josh Groban’s O Holy Night. I have to agree. He puts me in immediate nap mode and I love me some nap time.

Anyone else enjoying a long weekend. I love it so much when mom can spend 4 days in a row with me!me!me!

    Good morning all.

Dawson – hmmm, wondering if the dreamcatcher is being TOO suggestive. After all, it IS wrapped in buffalo leather, and buffalo DO live on the prairie, and it WAS made by an Apache. Not sure about the beaver part though…

Melanie – gear up that bulldozer!

Kat – GOOD GIRL! My, what a good Husky.

Macy – good to hear there were no side effects from the “Mystery of the Missing Chocolate Bar”

Wonder how Princess Sam is doing this morning

I’m so glad you are all proud of me. I did manage to eat part of that rat, but when Mama came close, I let it be and stood back so she could take it away. (whispering) I think she must bury that stuff to eat later when nobody is looking.
Rose, I will ask her to email you my picture.
I would like to hear more about Savannah. She sounds like somebody I would like a lot.
We are having two little babies come to visit. This ought to be fun. Last evening, a little boy came by and we played in the barn. His mom brought him to see the horses, and he was real shy…until I got ahold of him. We chased each other all over that barn, and we both had a fantastic time. He couldn’t care less about those horses.

    We just met a Lurker!!!!

A guy came through the show earring a Stormy Kromer. Of course we had to mention it. He follows the Iditarod, and last year was following AJ, and therefore found the Snowhook site, learned about SK hats and got one, and learned about Chet and the blog. He doesn’t read it everyday, but mentioned that he loves Wolfie Wigglebutt, Bella and ( blush) Tupper and Gilly.
Yes- really. How very cool is that? We showed him pics of Tup n Gil, and we decided that maybe the world hadn’t ended, but computers made it much smaller.

This morning’s post reminds me of my reaction to books that contain the message: “This page intentionally blank.” It is not blank. It has a message saying “This page intentionally blank.” The only proper way to do this is to have a blank page followed by a page that says “The previous page is intentionally blank.” My wife says I think of things that normal people don’t.

-45 AGAIN. Today after work I am volunteering. Tomorrow I just have a few groceries to pick up then I plan to stay home through Christmas. Place where I work just ran out of fuel and have a call out for an emergency delivery. My office is 55. I know that yesterday the fuel tanks were checked–there is a lot of fuel theft that goes on so maybe that is what happened.

It is a wild and wet and windy day here. We are dog sitting a friends dog, Roscoe, and he had a restless night. Mom finally got up at 3:45 to spend time with him and as a result, the house is clean and sparkling and the laundry is almost done. We’re sitting in front of the fire with a cuppa, trying to decide if we want to make sugar cookies for tomorrow’s Sunday school lesson, or if we just want to veg. It is so nice not to HAVE to do anything.

Kat, You are a brave girl. In all my 50+ rat catching experiences I never took a bite. Most of the time they were dispatched without any bloodshed. You know “vermin irradication” is in my genes so I have a lot of finese. If the weather was cold Barb let me keep my treasure (outside of course) for a day or two. She would say “Where’s your mouse?” and I could always go right to it. She called them mice on ice. hahahah

Wolfie – yup, the Lurker really mentioned you. See- you’re (in)famous!

Rio, We have our special mitten ornament on our tree also. It is at the very bottom of the tree and helps cover up the boring stand/base. It has two chickadees painted on it. (It is the only ornament on the tree) We don’t have many ornaments left here from our childhood and they don’t match anything or have any special meaning so we left them all off except for this one I bought from the musher’s boutique

Gah! Someone in KY sent me a box of fruit for Christmas. It was delivered yesterday with no note or email so I didn’t find it until this morning when I opened the door–everything is frozen rock solid. No surprise at -45. During the winter, I drive directly into the garage and don’t use my front door. It was just by chance I opened it this morning. What do I do with frozen apples, pears, oranges, tangelos? Will it be eatable once thawed? Do I let the sender know? Is it the USPS fault (I signed a document that they can leave packages when I am not home but why would they leave fruit especially at -45 for pete’s sake?) Help…

Wose- we are in Boston at the Prudential mall. Otherwise known as Snob Shopping. tee hee

The Lurker didn’t buy from us, but did but from our neighbor. Glad everyone is making sales.

CHobbit – oranges and tangelos can be defrosted and eaten- usually. If they are too mushy, think orange juice.
Pears – may be discolored when thawed. But with the seeds taken out, they are great in a smoothie.
Apples – applesauce, apple bread and apple crumble are all good. They will be too watery to work in a regular pie crust.
And last but not least, best use for frozen and thawed UPS driver – mulch

I found another package outside the house this afternoon from Linda the Lurker. I think it is the special pretzels I bought from the Snowhook boutique store. I will find out on Christmas when I open them. The plan is to take them to Anchorage New Year’s weekend to share with my sister and her family.

Melanie – UPS is just trying to keep you from eating slimy, nasty things.
    tee hee.

Sales? Up and down. Good and so so. Crowded and sparse.
It is being said that people didn’t come out yesterday because they were afraid the world would end.
We have decided that those ancient Mayans sat around their fires planning the ultimate delayed action practical joke.

Well, I guess the Mayans never made it to Chevy Chase, because we are still here. I even went to visit grandpa yesterday, he is making progress but it will probably be a couple of weeks at the earliest before he will be able to come home.
Way to go Kat. Fortunately we don’t have any of those things here, although rabbits and fuzzbutts know enough to stay out of my yard.

    Hey Wolfie,
Maggie went from stable and very little change to almost completely bedridden very suddenly on Thursday. The nurses are wondering whether it is an intestinal flu or sudden deterioration of the pacemaker. From the blood pressure readings and heart rate they think it is a bug. We wouldn’t treat her differently either way so it doesn’t matter, but it is sure a shock to have such a sudden change.

Friday and Thursday she sat up in her chair for under 2 hours, but no sitting up today. Hopefully she will soon feel like eating and will be able to keep food down and can gain strength again.

Today Mom is mostly sleeping or resting in bed. She sat up in bed a few times but after just a few minutes wants to lie down again.

I am so glad Jeni is here to help train me in the way to help care for Mom.

We are on the 27th floor of the hotel (shudder). But Leonard says we are high enough that prayers can get up over the tall buildings and the traffic. So, he is sending prayers up for everyone.
Sleep in peace, dream well, and know that you are loved.
