Chez Albie Rose (Revised)
Zoom! Up and over! There’s really nothing like a good high leap to make you feel tip-top. I landed lightly on the other side of Albie Rose’s gate, and what did I find right away? A tennis ball. I was just snapping it up when I heard a loud thump. I looked around and there was Bernie, also on this side of the gate, but lying on the ground, a big rip in his pants and kind of groaning. I dropped the tennis ball right away, went over and licked his face.
“Must have slightly misjudged something or other,” he said, and popped right up. And if not popping right up he at least got to his feet, leaning on me a bit. We’re a good team, me and Bernie. We turned and headed up toward Albie Rose’s house. No one around, but the front door was open.
Note from Admin: Quacky Baseball is a picture book written by PA and illustrated by Frank Morrison. It comes out Opening Day, 2011. PA is now writing a new middle-grade series (not Ingrid), set in NYC and slightly touched by the paranormal.
And don’t miss great puppy pics in yesterday’s comments section!

You are such a good partner Chet, not to mention your leaping ability! And an open door. This is getting more exciting.
Thank you for the info Admin. "Slightly touched by the paranormal" is intriguing.

Nice job of protecting your mom, Lexi, regardless of what they yelled at you. I'm glad she's back.
5:19 am on June 8th, 2010
Go Chet! Chet the jet! Leaping higher than a fence! Poor Bernie. Hope he didn't do anything to his leg.
The front door is open. That can't be good. Who or what is in there? Has Albie done a bunk? Is he dead? Must ponder.
B. Stover, we also enjoyed the "slightly touched by the paranormal." Hmm, the book? one of the characters? Interesting.
Oh, some one asked about why we have to be so careful. Gracie weighs 130 pounds. a pup weighs between one and two pounds. Grace is not named Amazing Grace because she is graceful. These big girls can smother or break bones by accident.
Not sure when I'll be showing up . . Here's a pic of one of them at 24 hours long. (Thanks Chet and SQ for letting me go on about the pups!)

Woo hoo!
Lexi's Mom is home!
Awesome pic of Newf puppy!
Life is good.

Admin: When will the new puppy pix make the front page of the "Friends of Chet"? A welcome and adorable sight for all to see. By the way Melanie – how fast do the little darlings grow if they are only 1 lb now how big will they be in 3 weeks? Know you are ultra busy right now but please keep the pictures coming whenever you can get a breather – they are just amazing!

Sooo cute!

Hey guys,
Remember the short story that PA gave us in three installments last year. That was Young Adult and 'slightly touched by the paranormal'. I enjoyed that. Of course that had already been published I believe. However it makes you wonder doesn't it?
~Staff
If I remember correctly the father in that short story always knew how to use comma's correctly. I liked that touch as I often worry about my comma's.
8:09 am on June 8th, 2010
Hey Staff, those pain meds must be activating some great brain cells. You're right. I wonder if that short story got longer?
8:52 am on June 8th, 2010
ATK, Love your comma's! Melanie, Will you have to supplement feed or will Gracie be able to handle the whole load herself? She probably has only 8 "dinner pails", right?
8:56 am on June 8th, 2010
She's a looonnnggg dog Barb and Magpie! She's got 10. Right now she's doing great with 6 on and 6 off and then switching. Then a wait of 2 hours and do it again. Her milk is in.
Can't remember how big they are at three weeks. We're usually in a stupor by that point. They are around 25 to 30 pounds when they leave us.
8:57 am on June 8th, 2010
Chet and Bernie are over! I'm just glad that Bernie made it over with Chet. I hope Bernie has his gun with him.
I'm looking forward to the new series because I really liked that three part short story.
Abbie, I never know about commas or any other punctuation.
Melanie, Thanks for another cute puppy picture and for answering our question.

Well, gang, here I am in doggy day care. I refused to go unless the let me use their computer. My folks are having some work done inside the house, and it is too hot for me to hang around outside. Mom worries about workers leaving doors open, and my tribe are escape artists. I'm locked in here at doggy day care, but am having a good time. Party Time!!
9:45 am on June 8th, 2010
Melanie: Be sure to read the added sentence by Admin in today's post.
SH: How long do you have to be there?
9:56 am on June 8th, 2010
Mom will pick me up later on this afternoon. She would never board me anywhere overnight.
10:02 am on June 8th, 2010
SH: I'm glad you don't have to stay overnight.
Here is a good site with rules on using commas:

Thanks Admin!
10:52 am on June 8th, 2010
Aw! Ber-nie! Don't fall. Falling is not a good thing.
10:57 am on June 8th, 2010
Thanks Stover..mom and I will go to that website. Actually, mom and I probably need to spend several years in your classes. We think you must be a good teacher.
I've made a new friend at doggie day care. Her name is Molly…a golden retreiver.
11:18 am on June 8th, 2010
Thank you SH.
Wonder where Rio is.
11:30 am on June 8th, 2010
Melanie! Cute puppies!!! They're so adorable. Reminds me of the new black lab puppy(either Riley or Sky, the humans say)that I befriended. And that dog(Riley or Sky)got to be off of her leash. Megan asked me why I couldn't do that. Ugh, maybe because I don't want to? Did that ever come up in her mind?
Tailwags and licks. Lexi-a confused puppy.
11:39 am on June 8th, 2010
Siber-H – Mom knows I'm good friends with you and she just told me a funny story from many years ago.
Mom's daughter had Siberian Husky named Kasha and Kasha was staying with Mom for a few days. One morning Mom was having coffee and reading the paper (she's hard to budge) and Kasha went to the cupboard where the treats are kept and said woof. Mom said not now, you can have one later. Then Kasha went to the back door and said woof. When Mom got up to let her out, Kasha walked back over to the treat cupboard. Ha! Mom was tricked and Kasha got her treat.
11:45 am on June 8th, 2010
Chet: Nice jump – fun huh?
Bernie: Perhaps should practice your climbing over fences skills.
Lexi's Mom: Thank goodness you're home. Too much junk food being consumed while you were gone.
Melanie: Thanks for the beautiful photos of the newborns. So cute times twelve.
Barb and Maggie: I meant to say how beautiful a coat you have, Maggie. Thanks for the picture of you and of the other picture of the demolished barn. Was that a tornado or just strong winds?
Thankful no living creatures were hurt.
11:47 am on June 8th, 2010
That's a cute story, Molly. Mom says I have a thing for the girls named Molly. I think she is right.
Where is Rio?
11:49 am on June 8th, 2010
Siber H: Another Molly – what a popular name.
Rio: Did not mention he was going anywhere. I hope he's not being made to hide in the basement because of storms.
12:00 pm on June 8th, 2010
Dawson, No tornados, just strong winds. Mom is getting quotes, whatever that is, and they will start with the tree removal next week. Then they have to haul away all the damaged stuff, and then rebuild. Will take a few weeks. We were glad Baby Goat and Stormy wer ok in their part of the barn. Someone asked Mom if she cried, and she said no, because the animals were not hurt.
Thank you for saying I have a beautiful coat. It is called "shaded sable" It is a sable and white coat with smokey overlays or shading on top. Mom says humans pay a lot of money to get their hair colored like that.
Where are you, Rio? Are you on your way out to see the puppies?
12:47 pm on June 8th, 2010
I think you are beautiful, Maggie. I just love good-looking girls. The prettiest ones are found right here on Chet's blog.
I'm home from doggie day care. I had a blast and I want mom to take me there one or two times a week just for the fun of it. That is, of course, in addition to the morning trips to the dog park. Mom says she will think about it, but she will weaken and give in.
12:47 pm on June 8th, 2010
Rio here!… We’ve just been having a hard day today….sniff!… My friend got sad news this morning when she got to her busy season place… snuffl… So we have just kept to ourselves for awhile today.
Puppies!… I wish Melanie would stop posting photos of those pups!… snort!… Someone here really wants one… grump!…But then I remind her about all the drool that happens when they get Huge and that image makes her think twice… sniff!
12:51 pm on June 8th, 2010
Sorry about the bad news Rio, but I'm glad that you are okay.
12:51 pm on June 8th, 2010
Rio, I'm so sorry to hear about your sad day.
12:54 pm on June 8th, 2010
Sorry you had a sad day, Rio.
About a Newf puppy, you know how much you love Bess, how about a Bess-type puppy sister? Right there in your own house.
12:55 pm on June 8th, 2010
I am glad you and your best friend are ok, Rio, but I'm sorry about the sad news.
uh, yeah, Rio…guess who else would like to have one of those pups…my mom. I don't think so is all I have to say about that.
1:02 pm on June 8th, 2010
Crushed!…. When I read Melanie’s post about the “Big Girls” smothering or breaking bones by accident … snort!… It sent shivers looping through my tail and up my back! … gasp!… I mean That could happen to me if we had a Big Girl living here… grunt!
1:06 pm on June 8th, 2010
Rio, We join all the others in sharing concern for your friend's sad day.
Barb's daughter has 2 Newfies. When they get a drink they like to stick their whole head in the bucket of water, if it is big enough. Then they shake. It is way cool, especially if they are outside.
1:57 pm on June 8th, 2010
Mollypop, what a trickster that Kasha was! Got your mom!
Riö, sorry about your sad day. Bess sends her love (with a small amount of drool.)
Riö, by the time the pups are old enough to go home, they are still young enough not to sit on you. In fact, when big pups go to small dog homes, the small dogs rule the roost even when the Newfs are big.
I can only remember one of our puppies sitting on someone. It was a human not a dog. Her mom was babysitting a very active three year old child. Izzy was very concerned when he kept trying to go out the door. So she sat on him until a grown up human came. Luckily the child thought it was funny.
Hope that cheers up your best friend and you. If you need Bess to come sit on someone let us know.
2:31 pm on June 8th, 2010
Aw, Rio! Your day'll get better! Just, think of the good things in life, like biscuits, and bones, and treats….and chicken…and turkey…yeah, turkey…and junk food!!! Think positive! You're a positive pug! A Positive Pug!
Tailwags and licks. Lexi-an awesome pup.
3:06 pm on June 8th, 2010
Friends!… thanks for all your kind words and thoughts. Even you Lexi.… sniff!…. We knew it was coming and we knew it was a blessing when it did, but one is never ready to lose a very close, special and dearly beloved Aunt….sniff!….So once again she will have to attend a very sad funeral in the near future… She is not looking forward to it at all….snuffle.
3:08 pm on June 8th, 2010
Shush!… Melanie!….Now someone has that ‘wouldn’t it be great to have a puppy’ look in her eyes again… shush!… Has Bess’ top-notch grown out yet?? … snort!… I rule the roost even when I visit my friend Pepper!… heh!… She knows who is boss.
3:39 pm on June 8th, 2010
Newfs!… This is what I love about Newfs….snicker!… They do everything BIG like they are from Texas or sumthing… snort!…For instance, they way they take a drink!… heh!… They all have different personalities and I get the impression they all enjoy a good comedy routine …wheeze! … And some of the very special ones even like watching TV! … mmmm.
3:40 pm on June 8th, 2010
I know that you had mentioned your friend's aunt before, Rio. My deepest sympathies go out to you and your friend. It hurts to lose a loved one. You have all our love and support.
3:41 pm on June 8th, 2010
Melanie, your puppies are darling!! I didn't know that baby newfies look like hamsters, but they do!
Rio – I'm sorry about your sad day. I hope that all is well soon. We care.
Siber H – Maybe you can bring your mom's credit card next time. If you order enough dog toys and treats, you'll be the hit of the party!
3:46 pm on June 8th, 2010
From what Melanie says, Rio, if you had a Newf, you could be the boss. Newf's seem to have such a wonderful disposition.
3:50 pm on June 8th, 2010
Wolfie, I'm always the hit of the party, but I can bring mom's credit card . Hasn't anyone but me noticed how quickly this puppy shower evolved to a puppy party? BRING IT ON!!
4:08 pm on June 8th, 2010
Credit Card!…. How did I miss the story about Siberh and the Credit Card???… snort!… Someone fill me in please??… gruff!… And now the Puppy Shower is a full-blown Puppy Party?…. hmmm!…. Puppies can’t party, can they?…. Lexi?
4:13 pm on June 8th, 2010
Rio and friend: So sorry about your sad news today.
4:14 pm on June 8th, 2010
Melanie: When do those baby newfs start drooling?
4:18 pm on June 8th, 2010
Rockies!… We are, of course, watching the Game tonight and for the first time ever we recognize someone in the front row to the batters left…. Snort!…. It’s Bill! It has to be Bill. He is the only millionaire we know and we have known him a long time… wheeze!…Even before I was born we knew him…heh!… There he is sitting in the front row!… wow! … Every time the camera is on him he is not watching the game and his lips are flappin’ .. heh…that’s Bill for sure.
4:19 pm on June 8th, 2010
Hey! Puppies can party! Grr! We have a lot of energy, so we can party more than you old geezers! HA! Just kidding! But, I HAVE been told that I had had a lot of energy.
Tailwags and licks. Lexi-an energetic puppy.
4:21 pm on June 8th, 2010
Rio, there really isn't any story behind the mention of the credit card. Wolfie just asked if I could bring my mom's credit card to the puppy party, and I said sure. She'll never miss it until it is too late. After our quest up north, I ate the credit card statement before she could get it out of the mailbox.
4:34 pm on June 8th, 2010
Heh!… Way to think with your chompers Siberh!… grunt!… No physical evidence left to point to you… sneakie!…Just be sure to guard your credit card from Molly at the Puppy Party… heh!… Or you will really have to eat a lot of paper later.
4:43 pm on June 8th, 2010
Lexi!… Answer me this, my little impish one. ….snort!… When are puppies Not puppies anymore?… sneeze!… And when do they turn into old geezers? ….grunt!
5:51 pm on June 8th, 2010
Melanie,
I was wondering if I could name one of the puppies? The one with the white face that looks like a hampster? Here's the name I chose: (ready?) "Hampster Face"! Awe, isn't that sweet?
So, Bernie and Chet are both over the fence! Seems a little ominous, having the door open, doesn't it?
Mom and Dad are leaving tomorrow to pick up my boys. Mom is a little nervous, but Dad is ready.
Hmmmm….I wonder where the Wookster is today?
Barb – is the insurance going to pay for the new barn?
And finally, I hope that Staff is ok.
6:10 pm on June 8th, 2010
Wolfie! My Friend, you reminded me of the actual first post!….Thanks for that!
Pants!…Bernie’s pants have a big RIIIP in them…heh!…I wonder where?… Back or front?… heh!… We here are thinking right down the seam in the back.. ha!…oh poor Bernie, thank goodness he has Chet by his side today….snicker!
Wolfie…Just an update, we have not been able to ‘assemble’ our party favors yet for the Puppy Party…snort!… Do you have a time-line when things should be done for this shin-dig???… grunt!
6:20 pm on June 8th, 2010
Well, Rio, since I haven't heard any dissention regarding July 10, I think we're on for that date. Next, we need to decide on a location. If we have it at Melanie's then she won't have to transport all 20 newfies. That's an important consideration.
We just need to have about 20 zillion trucks of snow and ice delivered!
Dawson, I think we can all all the doggie food and treats delivered to Melanie's.
Here is the shipping address:
Melanie's Place
20 Newf Lane
Somewhere in MA.
There! That should do the trick!!
We won't need the party favors until the actual day of the party, so you have lots of time. (**aside** Have you decided on what kind of favors to make? You can tell me – I'll keep it a secret from Melanie so that she'll be surprised!)
6:27 pm on June 8th, 2010
Which reminds me! Don't forget to invite your friends and neighbrs, folks. Rio – be sure to bring both Peppers and Grandma! Cyber H – bring the guys from the doggie day care!
We need to invite Iggy also! He doesn't get out much! I'll bring Teddy, Baxter and all five Kats, mom, dad, and my boys!
(We can have the boys help BBQ, clean up after wards, and help with poop scooping!)
Oh, and we can't forget to invite Bo Obama, PA and family, Admin, Spence, Bernie, Suzie, Col Bob, Mike Baker. And what about Ingrid and Nigel? Wow, this is gonna be one big crazy party!!
6:27 pm on June 8th, 2010
Do not let my boys anywhere near the helium tank!!!
6:29 pm on June 8th, 2010
Do we need invitations? Or shall we just use the blog??
6:33 pm on June 8th, 2010
Wolfie!… Once I have the party favors done, I will put up a photo of a few of them……heh!
6:35 pm on June 8th, 2010
~BStover! Wow! I knew you would have a comma answer, but who knew you would have 21 of them! I have never heard of some of those rules. (Or had forgotten them) I have saved them to Delicious so I can find them again later. Thanks.
~Riö, So sorry for your sad day.
~Wolfie, I am OK, but my gums are so bruised from clenching my teeth, because of pain, that it will take a while for the pain to subside. So I am still whining and complaining.
Also I forgot to put the puppy party on my google calendar. Can you remind me, please?
Thanks,
Staff
6:35 pm on June 8th, 2010
WWWWW: I'll just tell the delivery person to go to the place with 22 Newfs. Shouldn't be a problem. It'll be outside at Melanies so those who like water can go wading or swimming in that wonderful creek and Siber H can stay far away from that water – keeping an eye on Rio and Bess to make sure there is no running away together type thing going on. Siber H: isn't exactly the right dog for that job being a professional runner awayer so Mollypop can you keep an eye on these three? We can't afford to lose anyone – not even for love.
6:44 pm on June 8th, 2010
Rio – I heard that if you drink sugar water while you're upside down, that will get rid of your hiccups.
Good Luck and sweet dreams!!
6:47 pm on June 8th, 2010
Nighty night Riö. I think I will turn in also. I don't get to take anymore pain meds until 2:30 so I may as well sleep.
Goodnight Gracie!
Staff, AKat and AJ
7:06 pm on June 8th, 2010
Abandoned. I was abandoned tonight (well, not totally, because grandpa stayed home with me and I got extra tummies) because they (mom and dad) went to a concert to hear James Taylor and Carol King. Something about their 32nd wedding anniversary and recapturing their misspent youth. Didn't even ask if I wanted to go; I really like their music and would have been on my best behavior. I would have even worn my best bow tie. Anyway, I made them feel really guilty when they got home. That will show them. Wookie
For those interested, the concert was just spectacular. Terrific music and even more wonderful memories. Wookie's Mom and Dad.
7:13 pm on June 8th, 2010
Congratulations to Wookies Mom and Dad! I'm sorry you didn't get to go, Wookie, but sometimes concerts are silly things and don't allow dogs in. Much better to stay home with Grandpa and get some tummies!
7:17 pm on June 8th, 2010
PS We love James and Carol too!
7:26 pm on June 8th, 2010
Staff – July 10th falls on a Saturday! I thought I'd let you know because it is always so embarrassing to show up for a puppy party 2 days early!!
Too many toothaches, that's what it is!
11:36 pm on June 8th, 2010
Wow Dawson! Sisters together! Cool.
11:39 pm on June 8th, 2010
Well… Stick us with a fork! … heh!…We are done! Goodnight and hopefully I will see you all tomorrow… hiccup!…Damn hiccups!… I can’t get rid of them all of a sudden…grrr!…Pug (hick!) Nips.

Baby Newie Puppy Party (nee “Shower”)
JULY 1O AT MELANIES PLACE (TENTATIVE)
FROM ?? TO ?? (Come anytime, stay as late as you want!)
11:43 pm on June 8th, 2010
OK Wolfie,
You answered my question before I asked it. Thursday the 10th. I guess it will be open house and all day so we can drop in whenever we want?
I am rushing to finish the last two quilted puppy pillow puffs. Gracie sure surprised us with the two ‘extra’s’ I am going to have to Fed Ex them as there will not be room for all our camping equipment and the ppp’s.
Alice and Abbie can’t wait!
~Staff
BTW Riö, did you notice your Rockies come to visit the Twins next week? Our announcer just talked about us having to face Jiminez one of the days. OOO they are excited! Alice Johnson

I’m really enjoying your blog, honestly, it’s great. So happy I discovered it, I seriously can’t stop checking for updates! Thank you, and keep up the hard work! :]
