Chetspeak Sunday

We blasted out of bayou country, Bernie behind the wheel, me in the shotgun seat. Our ride’s a real old Porsche, the oldest we’ve ever had. The one from before got blown up; the one before that went off a cliff. And who can remember the one before that? Not me, amigo, except for how loud train whistles turn out to be when they’re real up close. The point is old Porsches are how we roll at the Little Detective Agency, just one of the things that makes us so successful, leaving out the finances part, where we’ve run into some hiccups I won’t go into now. And don’t get me started on hiccups, which is the annoying thing about them, namely that you can’t stop. What else do you need to know? Bernie’s last name is Little, which is how come we’re the Little Detective Agency. I’m Chet, pure and simple.

Welcome Dolly from Az, Ruby, Bailey.

Good morning all, and yes, dogs do get hiccups. I know cuz I have had them.

Barb is making Cowboy Caviar for a family party later today. Lots of chopping and mixing going on in the kitchen, so not sure it will be Egg Day here. Rats!

Oleys, One of the things I miss most about the farm is the chance to hunt rats. I have caught a couple of little mousie like things here, but nothing compares to a big ole rat between your teeth.

Barb sprinkleed some organic animal repelent around the beets last night. It must of really worked, because a bunny came and ate half of the row, plus a few bean tops.

Sammy, Barb loves to share. She just wishes the bunny didn’t eat quite so much. Evidently she does not like the peppery taste of Arugula, because that row is perfect. Next year we won’t have this problem, because the garden will have the second board added and will be too tall for little bunnies.

Staff, Can’t remember if we commented the other day, but Barb did the same thing you did – put onions all the way around the outside of the raised bed.

Howlers: Before anything else, I want to say I’m sorry to hear of Buddy’s passing. The time, ways and means of crossing the Bridge is not always known to us and that can make a body’s heart hurt even more. What we do know, is the love shared between you and that Buddy was welcomed with love.

Sorry to be MIA for the past couple of weeks, but I ran out of time for everything I needed to do before I left to go pick up AJ from his job. He has some time off for a bit. I drove down Friday night and stayed in the camper just big enough for the Giant. Yesterday was our 11 year anniversary and AJ made arrangements to go on a glacier cruise/tour. Because he is a guide he got a significant discount becasue they want him to refer tourists to them. It was great. We saw whales, sea otters and sea lions! Oh my! We arrived home late last night and spent a lot of time in the kennel being welcomed home by the dogs. Tonight I leave for DC. Hat tip to Miss Macy for being my tour guide.

Here is the doggie algorithm for greeting:

In doggie computer code, there is a variable called greet flag. When someone leaves, the greet flag is set to ON. When someone comes back the doggie program looks at the greet flag, sees it’s ON, greets and then sets it to OFF. Now if someone arrives with arms full of groceries to be put away and maybe something for the dog, there could be a delay of 15 minutes or more. But then the doggie program runs and sees the greet flag is ON. Greet, greet.

Greetings cannot be overlooked, no matter how much time has gone by.

Now Barb is off to the graduation (8th grage) party for Baye. She couldn’t find her recipe for Cowboy Caviar, so she looked it up in her DishLickers Cook Book.

    Good Morning Afternoon Everybody!

Pool work today. Early this morning the water was over my knees. Perfect for getting out the dead leaves left over from last year when we didn’t have time to close the pool correctly.

Got those out and found out the stairs were broken. Got a friend to fix them. Did you know you can use a DeWalt Screwdriver (battery driven) in the water?

Next scrub the stairs and weights in the pool.

Zoë said she was about the bulldoze the whole thing, and I said I would make signs for the dogs and we would picket her.

Because of the forecast we are cooking dinner early. Gluten free 3 cheese pizza by “Against the Grain”. Then I added sautéed onion, red pepper, and mushroom. On top of that I added black olives, and sliced tomatoes and two more cheeses. Freshly grated Parmesan and crumbled Blue Cheese.

Ok, so the storm is over, and we are all stuffed like egg rolls. So, let us tell you a funny story.

The end of the show – thunderstorms ramping up, wind picking up, emergency sirens going off in town warning of a BAD storm. Everyone packing like mad to get out.
    And then….
A little old lady came up to the stand and started yelling at Mama for not calling her back. Huh? Mama had NO idea who she was. Old lady said she called last week and left a message at the studio. But…but…but…the studio phone has been disconnected for a year. Then she said she left a message with our “neighbors” – another business around the block from our studio. We have never met these people and never got a message from them.
Old lady bought a pair of earrings about 5 years ago, lost one, and now expects Mama to replace it. Huh? Mama explained to her, very kindly and respectfully, that the loss was NOT her responsibility, and she couldn’t help the lady. And she explained that this was panic time as the thunderstorm is now getting closer and closer, and the wind is pulling down small tents, and billowing up the circus tent.
Old woman won’t quit. She wants to know WHERE she could get a replacement. We don’t know. Is there a web site? We don’t know. Can we call someone? NO! And we need to get back to packing, thank you very much. Old woman says there is no need to panic – the storm will pass eventually. Mama tried to patiently explain that she didn’t want everything to get soaked, including herself.
Old biddy watches Mama cover, close and lock the showcase, and THEN says that she wants to look at earrings in that case. Resistance was futile – Mama unlocks and uncovers the case and lets the old fart look while Mama packs other stuff. Keep in mind that all around is chaos as artists frantically pack inventory and strike tents, as people are running through the show grounds offering help, as the thunder is booming, and the wind is howling. The old bat keeps pulling earrings out and demands that Mama unpack a mirror for her.
Now, it is down to the last showcase, and people are waiting to help Mama load. Old biddy starts scolding Mama for her lack of customer service. Mama kind of lost it. She has been taught to respect her elders, but really….
So Mama looked her dead in the eye and asked for her phone number. Old bitch asks if Mama is going to call her to get a replacement earring. Mama says no, she is going to call her tomorrow to come help clean, dry and polish the soaked jewelry and wash the table covers and unpack, dry and repack all pottery. And now – THE SHOW IS OVER. And so is Mama’s patience. So get out!

Old biddy huffs off. Mama realizes that they have drawn a little crowd of fellow artists, and they were placing bets on how long Mama’s temper would hold.

We wish we had been there. We would have won the pool, cuz we can tell just exactly when Mama is about to blow.

Funny, the Storyteller still has a hard time with figuring that part out.

Old biddies . . Did she have a cane? YSAS and I went to NYC to visit schools. First time for him. We were lining up for a bus when an old biddy came up and wacked him acrossed his shins. Then she yelled at him. He was stunned. AND then another one attempted to pickpocket him on the same bus!

As Zoë, Golinka and I had taught him to repect his women elders, he did not complain with the first one, but he did raise carpola with the second. She was not expecting that and got off the bus.

I have to say that both YSAS and I have learned a great deal about boundaries from Golinka.

(I wish I could have been in that tent today. All that noise from the storm must have sounded like the voice of Dog!)

Golinka: You showed more patience than most would have done. I can see the old biddy scuttling off and the Storyteller being on his best behavior after that explosion. Heh, heh.
Snowbella: What? Did I hear anniversary? Happy days!

Just starting to catch up with the blog. I have been quilting for TWO WHOLE DAYS! Yippee!
This is what my nephew-in-dog was up to today.

You might remember him as the beautiful Snow Wolf earlier in the year. Or you might not…snicker.

Barb just got home from the party.

Have a safe trip Rebecca and C. Hobbit.

Loved Amalia’s story. Do you notice that the woman started out as a little old lady, and ended up as the old biddy?

Barb made the mistake of telling me Gus was coming for a visit. As soon as she said “Gus Gus”, I started barking and boinging around the living room. Serves her right!

Barb is worn out so need to say goodnight.

Uh, you are welcome Rebecca, but we offered no touring advice.

Golinka, was that interview from before you did your hair, cuz it did not look red to us. Good job talking.

Did you see that 3 storm chasers died in a tornado? One of them used to be on the Discovery Channel. It was bound to happen sooner or later.

I wish that Belle’s other part was poodle, cuz pug + poodle =puddle, hehheh

O’Howlers you have our sympathy for your loss of Buddy. He was our first Friend of Chet. I don’t think he could have felt anything at all or he would have been hiding.
I have caught up with the last two days on the blog. Golinka sure had an exciting day. Glad she got some Chinese for supper.

We are all tired from our quilting so will say goodnight now.

    Goodnight now.

I have arrived safe in Anchorage! I ended up starting and hour later than planned and then 30 minutes from home I remembered that I forgot something critical so had to go back–which made the drive even longer. But there was little traffic on the road due to my late start. Sadie was sedated which lasted until Talkeetna (about 2.5+ hours from Anchorage. I had to put her in the passenger seat because I was taking my sister a lawnmower and garden supplies. So she panted and tried to crawl in my lap the last leg of the trip.

Belle Starr: I think it is a good thing that the Giant didn’t know the first thing about putting on nylons. Just saying. 🙂

CHobbit: Very happy to hear that you arrived safe and sound in Anchorage.
Hope Sadie is now doing okay.

Rebecca: Have a safe trip, we here will be chewing on couch cushions until you land safely.

RIO, please tell your friend I hope her first day back goes well,
