Chetspeak on Sunday: The Screenwriter

“But,” Bernie was saying, “I’ve got one or two misgivings about the historical record.”

“Misgivings?” Arn said. He sucked on what remained of his cigarette, just the stub. “Historical record?” I was with him, not following Bernie at all.

“For one thing,” Bernie said, “you’ve got the waterways dry like they are today. Fact is water ran in all of them back then, at least seasonally.”

“Yeah?” said Arn, not sounding interested in the least.

“And if,” Bernie said, his voice sharpening, “Thad’s really supposed to become a territorial ranger just before the blood brothers scene, then you’ll have to change the date – the territorial rangers weren’t formed until 1860.”

“Hmph,” said Arn. He dropped the cigarette butt on the floor. “Here’s the thing, Bernie. You’re not in the industry so there’s no way you’d know this. Movies – going way back, right to the beginning – create their own truth. Life imitates art, as we now know only too well.”

Bernie gave him a long look, then ground the cigarette butt under his heel. “What do you do with all the money?” he said.

Bernie was right, we should expect historical accuracy.

Good morning and Happy Sunday. We had eggs here this morning and I am going over to Shannon’s for burgers on the grill and to celebrate her 47th birthday.

Busy day here yesterday. I have a new car, an event that is making me very, very happy. My Ford Escape was a 2010 model that I purchased in 2011. I looked at leasing, buying new or buying a 2 yr. old model, my typical purchase. Since I drive under 10K per year, leasing worked out well for me. I leased a 2016 Escape(listed at 28K) for $250.00 per month plus they gave me back $4,000. in cash. All I do is buy gas.

I am over the moon, as this is the first brand new car I have had in 41 years! I think I deserve it!

O’Howlers: Packing…Hopefully, we here and the Hounds will Soon join youse in doing the same.

B,M,AL: A new car! Don’t you just love the smell of a new car?! What Bear said…photos, please!

Yesterday, Grizz and I did some mall walking. That means a visit to the Cheesecake Factory. The restaurant will be celebrating National Cheesecake Day on 7/29 and 7/30. Of course, this made me think about the Pixie… :^)

Planning my next day trip for Wednesday. I am thinking either Coney Island (where I can get a Nathan’s Famous Hotdog), or the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.

I will try to take some pictures soon. My last 3 cars have been gray, gray, white. This time I went black and it is really sharp looking. Nice change of pace.

BTW, David Rosenfelt has a new Andy Carpenter coming out Tuesday, Outfoxed, and Donna Ball just released the 2nd in the Dog Leg Island series, The Sound of Running Horses. Both will be on my must read list.

Good morning, (almost afternoon) to you all.

Barb – woo hoo! But we think you should have gone with a sporty red, or an electric blue, just to kinda match your hot-ticket personality.

Howlers – isn’t packing just the worst? Mama and the Storyteller moved a number of times in the last 31 years. It never gets easier.

We had a quick thunderstorm last night – just enough thunder to get us on the big bed. But very little rain. The drought and water restrictions continue. Which means Gilly and I get to postpone our baths for a while longer.

T & G, Got a nice soaking rain this morning. Maybe more coming this afternoon. Grass really needed it.

As far as the color, I looked at one called Sunset (I think). It was sort of a burnt orange. Looked sharp, but I think I would get tired of it, and black is always classy (my alter ego).

“Movies…create their own truth.” I like that.

Met my brother and friends for breakfast and they went on to Detroit to watch the Tiger baseball game.

    Good afternoon all.

Howlers: I hope for not too hot, not too humid day for packing. I have found tha the closer I get to moving day, the fewer items I decide I need.
B, M, AL: new cars are so exciting. It sounds like you have made the perfect choice!
Summer in the Berkshires is all about festivals. Today’s is the Polish Festival. Younger son will be picking up dinners for Zoe, him, and me. Yippee!

Staff, The nature videos are my favorite part of the blog each day.

WTD, I am going to look for that book. Do I need to start in the beginning or is this a stand alone?

Chef!…The Master Chef of this household just popped in a large casserole dish of Manicotti stuffed with her Great Grandma’s cheese recipe….yeeep!….It already smells delish!…gurgle!

Barb!…New wheels!….whoooo!…My friend still only knows about 1/3 of the stuff in her new car….chuffle!…Who has time to read a 2 inch owners manual?….grunt!…Well, actually Beau did read it, but he is not sharing….wiffle!

Miss Julia!…Someone went to the library yesterday and got another Miss Julia book…sniff!…Seems we are reading them in order but with gaps in-between. Doesn’t seem to bother my friend much. I would prefer we read each and every book not every other book…grunt!

Wookies Paw!…How is Laura Levine funny?…snort!…Is she someone we should check out for her writing? Is it mysteries? There are no Kats, right?…grunt!

    8:10 pm on July 17th, 2016

Rio, I am reading Miss Julia in order, and I highly recommend doing that. There is a strong continuation from one book to the next. Not sure if that is the right word. Maybe we should ask Gramps?

And we here say he and his cronies should “conversate”.

BMAL: You so deserve that classy car.

The 2 inch thick car manual is NOT on the teetering stack of books “to be read” although I did read a section on how to turn off the hazard lights that I had inadvertently turned on. So now I know how to do that.

Barb. You don’t need to start at the beginning with Laura Levine; it is a series but each book stands alone pretty well. The main character is named Jaine Austen and she lives with her wacky cat Prozac (sorry Rio) in a poorer section of Beverly Hills. She is a freelance writer who primarily writes advertising copy for companies like Toiletmasters (“In a rush to flush, call Toiletmasters!”). The books are laugh out loud funny, not great literature but great fun. They are murder mysteries but with a real comedic touch. Laura was a writer on some of the great sitcoms in the 1980s and 1990s, including The Bob Newhart Show, Laverne and Shirley and The Love Boat, to name a few. As an advertising copywriter she is responsible for creating Count Chocula and Frankenberry cereals for General Mills.

Tupper!…I always picture Gramps as the Gramps character on Moonstruck…heh!heh!

Success!…Today my friend finally created one perfect quilled item using the new technique….wheeeze!….This is a breakthru although the one item is not more than one petal on one flower in the big scope of things – things that are going to be much smaller now….guggle!…She is happy and feeling good, so therefore….
