Chetspeak on Sunday! Even Though …
“Like maybe you think I’m delusional,” Sherry said. “If I’m delusional, how do you explain this?” She held out her hand. A huge ring glittered and sparkled on one of her fingers. “Ric gave it to me Saturday night.”
“So you’re engaged?” Bernie said.
“Engaged? Wh at would an engagement ring be doing on this finger?” She stuck up her middle finger, possibly to give Bernie a better view. “We’re talking four flawless carats here, Bernie.”
“Very pretty.”

Can’t wait to read that story! BTW, how do I do that? I don’t have a reading device but I do have a Smart Phone. Can I order thru that?
Thanks for Chetspeak, even if it is Monday.

Thinking of MaryLou, Howlers, Nana and Boobear’s folks this morning.
8:16 am on June 2nd, 2014
Good morning B&M and everyone! Wowser, Chetspeak! We love, love, love this one even if it isn’t on Egg Day (maybe mom will get confused and we’ll get eggs again?)
Have a memorable Monday.
8:19 am on June 2nd, 2014
Hello All–this is a kind of bonus treat! I hope it augurs well for the day ahead.
Prayers and very positive thoughts for all who can use them.

Greetings!
Hey, it is Monday, but it is nice to have Chet Speak, especially since it is from “Tail of Vengeance.” Kool.
CHobbit, I am glad Sadie loves her new house. I have a small deck….I wonder if I can get one of those for myself?
Hockey: LET’S GO RANGERS! New York needs a winning team.
Staff, Thank you for the picture of the fawn. She is beautiful. Thanks, also for posting pictures of the ‘lil Singer, and the great big one!!! That great big one is beautiful!
ML, Take each day as it comes, and do what you feel is right.
Today I am thinking on Nana, Wes, Truman, Karen, BooBear, and Zoe. Also sending comforting hugs to those who may need them.
Mama Luna! A Mohawk!? I wonder if you could take a picture .
8:52 am on June 2nd, 2014
I’m laughing at today’s title. The story sounds great.
Good morning all.
9:09 am on June 2nd, 2014
Thank you Chet for answering my question.
Wose, you are so sweet and thoughtful, sending that cute little sewing machine to Staff.
Howlers, Peace and quiet at your house? How is the garden, and how is Fern these days?
Josh put a plastic fence around the inside of their picket fence that surrounds the garden. Now the woodchuck has chewed through the plastic and continued to munch. Ate every single cole family plant, some of the lettuce, left everything else.
9:43 am on June 2nd, 2014
Sleeping in.
Top of the mornin’ to youse all.
B&M: You can have the e-story sent from Amazon to your computer also.
Thinking of the Royal Mum’s brother, Howler’s uncle, BooBear’s dad, ML, and Staff,
And thank you for sending good vibes our way.
9:56 am on June 2nd, 2014
Staff, what is going on with the hernia situation?
Barb is heading out to the groomers to get Lucy’s nails done. She wishes she could take me, because they charge only $5.00, but you know the story with me and my feet. I am like Chet – no one touches my feet, Amigo!
10:27 am on June 2nd, 2014
Barb, would you swing by here and pick up Macy and Annie? They are walking on tip-toes around here. Cheapest I have found is $10.
NEWS FLASH*******
I mowed the yard this morning. And ran out of gas with only two little tufts of grass left to go. Would someone who is knowledgeable in these things tell me how much oil I should have in there? It didn’t look like much, but I didn’t burn up the engine (I hope) I don’t want to run it again. Without proper oil. Actually I would rather not run it again ever, but Macy was disappearing in the jungle. Annie made me feel good by rolling around in the freshly mowed area.
10:42 am on June 2nd, 2014
ML, Just unscrew the cap where the oil goes in and add some oil.
10:58 am on June 2nd, 2014
I don’t want to put in too much oil. And what kind? Arggggghh, I was not born for manual labor!!!
11:05 am on June 2nd, 2014
Most mowers operate on a straight 30 weight. Or 10W30 will work too. There should be a little oil gauge, just like a car dip stick. I think most mowers will take a full can if you are draining and starting all over. If you are just adding, it doesn’t take much. You don’t want to overfill.
The nail trim was $8.00 not $5.00. A trim is $5 and a grinding is $3.00 and she needed both. They said if she goes in once a month, it might just take a grinding.
11:07 am on June 2nd, 2014
Macy, Most hardware and big box stores will also carry an oil this is specifically designed for lawn mowers. It is a little more expensive. We just use a good quality 30 weight.
11:15 am on June 2nd, 2014
Macy’s Mom, You are doing good.
It has been a long time since mom has had a lawn mover because it has been a long time since she has had any grass. The last lawn mower she had didn’t have a dip stick.
No one on my street has grass.
11:18 am on June 2nd, 2014
Macy, I take that back – my small rider took just over a full can for an oil change. Your push mower will take less. Take the little dip stick out and wipe it, then put it back in and then check it. It will show how much oil is in there. If it is really black and thick looking, get someone to drain and change it for you. If it is golden color or light brown, it is fresh oil. I get mine changed once a season.
11:29 am on June 2nd, 2014
Barb and Maggie, At my place I grow dandylions for the groundhogs. They love the blooming flowers.
Wose I second everything Barb and Maggie said about you and Grizz sending me the sewing machine. Maybe I even third it.
Mowing. Yeep. The grass here was plenty high when we returned this spring because Mr.Staff cracked his fibula last fall and couldn’t mow. But he finally got it mowed once. It was so tall! Then he mowed again and it is really tall again! So tall that this is what happened yesterday evening.

11:30 am on June 2nd, 2014
Free to good home in New Mexico. One yard of grass. Not a three foot yard. A YARD. Just leave a few feet for the doggies to do their bidness.
11:31 am on June 2nd, 2014
Where can I get me one of those four-legged lawn mowers?
11:54 am on June 2nd, 2014
We wish we could take you up on your offer of a free green yard, but you would need to supply the water for it also.
12:07 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Macy – tell your Mom that she should get a couple of goats. Then she would get free lawn mowing, and she could take up her time with milking goats and making cheese and yogurt.
What??? I am just trying to be helpful
12:23 pm on June 2nd, 2014
I think that is a great idea, Basil. Goat cheese is very expensive, so she would probably make millions. One drawback, goats are non-discriminating munchers. Grass, weeds, flowers, veggies, it’s all the same to a goat.
12:26 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Awwww, Staff. As Macy’s Mom says, a Beautiful Lawnmower.
Maggie: You, Me and Chet agree…Stay away from these nails!
O’Howlers: Any updates on your Uncle’s condition? Continuing Prayers and Positive Thoughts for him.
Tupper&Gilly: (from last night) Nana will find out more later today, but it is a relief to know that not being able to eat, in this case, could be a Good thing.
Basil: Bonus…Some goats are excellent Protectors of Property too. Those of the marauding kind have been known to attack intruders on occasion.
12:27 pm on June 2nd, 2014
MacyMinPin: Tell your mom she might as well get chickens while she’s at it!
12:27 pm on June 2nd, 2014
For Siber-H & Zeus:

12:29 pm on June 2nd, 2014
I can just picture MaryLou with chickens and goats! HAHAHAHA
12:30 pm on June 2nd, 2014
B&M and Staff, I have my moments.
12:33 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Bear, That is funny. hmm I wonder if that Siber needs employment.
1:18 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Silly Siber…all Sibers need digging employment, even part sibers 🙂
1:19 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Staff, Regarding the woodchuck, they have a lot of dandelions and clover in the back yard by the garden. I always thought they liked clover too. This guy seems to be very selective.
Lawn mowing – we have to do ours about every 5 days. Later in the summer it slows down, but right now we can’t even go a whole week.
1:27 pm on June 2nd, 2014
We live across the street from lawn fanatics. They mow and rake together on Sundays, he mows on Tuesday and she mows on Thursday.
And heaven help the stray branch that may fall upon their yard. Or a bush that sets its rooty little toe outside its carefully tilled bed.
These folks recently told Gramp that they want their property to look the the magazine photos of high end condo cottages. Success. Their yard looks like no foot has ever trod the perfect sward. In other words, sterile and boring.
1:36 pm on June 2nd, 2014
We have a neighbor like that. He is retired military and extremely regimented. His lawn NEVER has a weed, the flowers are perfect, and his edging along the sidewalk never has a blade out of place. It does look like magazine yards. Ours will never look like his!
1:41 pm on June 2nd, 2014
T&G, you have lawn nazis!
1:42 pm on June 2nd, 2014
We here SHOULD mow, at the very least, once a week but it’s too expensive to have the lawn guy come out that often.
1:46 pm on June 2nd, 2014
GAH, B&M, you do to. We only have a leaf nazi…dog help the poor leaf that falls. No mulch, no compost, straight into the yard vacuum 🙁
Oh joy, oh rapture. Mom has a working washing machine again…1 transmission and $370 later. Sigh, cheaper than a new washer.
1:55 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Nothing is simple. Who knew a washing machine had a transmission.
2:10 pm on June 2nd, 2014
We want a Jetson style washing machine. Remember that? Rosie would lay a dirty garment on the conveyor belt, it would go through a big box, and come out on the other side CLEAN.
2:14 pm on June 2nd, 2014
AND FOLDED or HUNG 🙂
2:34 pm on June 2nd, 2014
So Barb, do you mow your own? If yes, I am going to be very embarrassed at my level of yard unfitness. Sheesh, I am the laziest girl in town. Well, after Belle that is.
2:53 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Macy’s Mom, I am sorry to admit it, but yes I do mow it myself. It isn’t a really big yard and the lawn service is nice, but they charge $30.00 per time to do it. That gets really costly so instead I splurge and spend $50.00 to have a girl come and clean the house once a month. I would rather do the yard then clean house. Of course I keep it picked up and vacuum dog hair every couple of days, but Renee comes in and does a more thorough job.
2:58 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Hello everyone. I want to see a photo of Miz Sadie in her super igloo. It sounds so cool. All I have is a barn.
Macy, Mom thinks your mom is so very brave and strong. She said she agrees with everyone that no big decisions should be made for a year. But then, what does she know? She can’t make a decision to save her soul.
Chetspeak Mondays are a very special surprise treat, and I really really want to read that story,
Luna, in a mohawk? Mom isn’t buying it, and neither am I. But Mom is wonrrit about that package she sent way up north to Alaska. She thinks perhaps the Thieves! intercepted it.
Regarding lawns: as you know, we here have a LOT of it. When it is freshly mowed, like now, it is beautiful. When it is not, you can see that there is very little grass among the weeds.
Our garden is doing well. Lots of lettuce and onions. There are many teensy tiny tomatoes. Beans and peppers arecoming along. Icely, as are the zucchini and taters.
Fern is now laying an egg almost every day, she has adapted well to her rehab coop.
Zeus and Meashka are getting along very well, except for when they aren’t. Then, I do my best to break them up and play peacemaker. I love my Mama Meash so much and I am always loyal to her. But that Z-Man is so darn cute and fun.
3:02 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Oh! Regarding my uncle…he is still in tons of pain, and still unable to get out of bed, even with assistance. He is very sad.
3:25 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Howlers, Do they know what is causing this problem? Is it an auto-immune problem?
Our garden is doing well too. Just pulled out a row of spinach. Tried a late planting but it was already getting warm. The spinach got about 1/2″ high and went to seed. Just couldn’t take the heat, so now we planted another row of Blue Lake bush beans. Our rows are only 5’long, so that is only about 20 bean plants. The snow peas are about 2′ tall and have started blooming. Stir fry in the near future!
3:51 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Kat: Didn’t your Uncle recently return from a Fishing Trip in Maine? Could his condition somehow be related to that?
NOt being able to get out of bed too. We are so sorry this is happening.
Continuing to send Strong Prayers his way.
3:53 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Kat, sending strong, healing thoughts to your uncle.
4:01 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Barb&Magpie: We were unable to find hardcover or paperback editions of In Dog We Trust at the library. It was only available in kindle so we ordered it from Amazon.
After reading it, if you want, we can send it on to you.
4:03 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Staff–You have a deer! I want one (and now sound like Belle Starr). I do like the idea of goats, but then you pay for it with goat poop. I tried to take out all of my backyard grass (to save water) and replaced with an allegedly drought-tolerant ground cover, but the grass came back. I walk around pulling up tufts and thinking about trying again with some kind of succulent.
I wish I could be helpful…(and I would like a deer).
Now, where is this Mohawk photo?
4:13 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Are you thinking Lymes Disease perhaps? That can be really bad stuff.
BSD, May take you up on that offer. We ordered it from the library, as it is not one they carry. We have had good luck in the past getting books from out of district, so I will let you know.
4:15 pm on June 2nd, 2014
You all have deers! (Or deer, I guess). I remember one crossing the Hollywood Freeway when I was a child and I once saw one in this big urban LA park/wilderness a few years ago, but to have them come to your house! (This seems like a good thing to me, but I’m wondering if you see it the saem way…)
BSD–Just got caught up, sort of. Thanks for asking. One more final to give this week, and I’m trying to work up the fortitude to look at the papers turned in so far.
Nana and Everyone–Delighted to hear about Wes, will continue prayers as previously scheduled (can’t hurt).
HOH–You know what they say about sickly chemists…
4:18 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Just looked up Lymes Disease. Pain and weakness in the arms and legs, swollen joints with arthritis type symptoms. Lack of energy, stiff neck, tingling and lose of feelings in arms and legs. Doesn’t he have these symptoms? Arm chair doc Barb at your service.
4:29 pm on June 2nd, 2014
They barium!
6:11 pm on June 2nd, 2014
I hope health issues are resolved soon. Worrisome. Medicine is less than an exact science but I hope it can be figured out.
Sadie escaped from the back yard again. She doesn’t escape from the dog yard but does when she is in the back yard. I did figure it out…She has to move a big concrete block to open the gate (latch needs fixed). This time it was more serious as she almost was hit by a car. I was out looking for her and a neighbor found her first. Said neighbor has 2 tiny dogs that are never leashed when walked and when they are outside they are always darting across the street (usually to pee on my yard). They are also yappers who chase kids on bikes and skateboards. I was always thinking that they would end up being hit in the street. So Sadie is banned from the backyard.
6:25 pm on June 2nd, 2014
CHobbit, I am very relieved to know Sadie is safe and sound!
7:17 pm on June 2nd, 2014
SadieBear! Listen to your Mom! Don’t pull a BSD and try to Escape. This is Very Worrisome to they who love us.
BTW. How the hey did you move that concrete block?
7:18 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Diane you would not want the deer when they ate up all you garden produce and your flowers. One day I woke up expecting to see many daylilies blooming and all I saw was cut off stalks. Over 50 daylily buds GONE!
Before we started putting up the electric fence (it went up last night) I would come out and see an entire row of beans reduced to little 1/4 inch high stubs. Grump.
7:30 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Sadie, Today was your lucky day! Good thing the yappers found you! You must be careful, Hobbit needs you.
Staff, Today one of our two daylilies bloomed for the first time. We planted it last year, but it had already bloomed. It is a beautiful pale apricot color and has a very large flower. We love it!
7:34 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Diane, we have a serious deer problem here. Too many car accidents from the deer running across the road right in front of cars. I’ve had many close calls. A friend of mine had a deer trying to leap over her car and crashing through her windshield.
7:35 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Barb&Magpie: You may be on to something there. Our Grampa spent a lot of time in the woods and at one point he contracted
Lyme Disease. He ended up in the hospital and it took a very long time for it to go away.
It is sometimes hard to diagnose initially because it can have similar symptoms to other diseases.
7:53 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Diane: Sounding like me, me, me! I like it! Last week Rio told my Two-legged mama via text that her Belle Starr was showing. She makes me so proud except for when she doesn’t.
7:59 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Yeeep!….For a second there I thought Bellie was preggers…wheeze!….Then I remembered the conversation between me and Rebecca…whew!
8:05 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Preggers! Nope. Not me. I’m not allowed. Mama Luna showed me the flip charts of where litters come from when I was younger. No thank you. I made an appointment to get myself fixed later that week.

9:06 pm on June 2nd, 2014
The docs are treating Uncle’s condition as a rare, super duper gout attack. He had been starting to move his hand a little, but then it got worse today. He was so depressed today, because they were not even able to lift him into a chair. He has been bed-ridden for over two weeks now! But his rheumatoid doc stopped back this afternoon, and gave him novacane shot and other meds, and his pain was a little bit better. She is also more optimistic than the other docs and thinks he will be able to get out of bed tomorrow. Keep all fingers, toes, and paws crossed.
On another note, a wife of one of Mom and Pop’s friends died suddenly today. He found her in the tree swing, with no note.
Mom is very down.
9:07 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Rio, The back yard is beautiful and the flowers well cared for. The cucumbers look good too. Obviously your friend and her mom have done a lot of work out there.
9:15 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Rio, that Backyard is huge! There is your friend’s garden and her mother’s garden and plenty of green grass.
9:23 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Howlers: I’ve restocked the Quilt with snacks including the orange food group. If you plan on playing cards with Staff, I suggest dressing in layers just like you did for your trip north to Alaska.
9:27 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Thanks Tenzing. Orange is our very favorite food.
Rio, your gardens are beyond beautiful. There are very green thumbs in your house, and some green with envy in ours.
9:28 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Bear!…Nope!…That tree is our neighbors tree….sniff!…If youse look closely you will see that chain link fence that SiberH dug a huge hole under at one point. It might have been for the World Series, not sure…heh!heh!…The little garden is right up by the fence and hard to tend to..sniff!

Rio, Your yard and gardens are beautiful. That is a lot of work both your friend and her mom and you a Beau have put into them.
9:49 pm on June 2nd, 2014
It looks like Beau has so much watering to do of his big garden, that we’re surprised he doesn’t pee for a week.
9:49 pm on June 2nd, 2014
Rio: I see the fence now. Even if the tree belongs to your neighbor it is still nice to see.
O’Howlers: You can rest assured all Paws, Toes, and Tails are crossed here.
