Chetspeak on Sunday

And got a shock right away. A bright yellow car pulled in and parked a few rows in front of us. That wasn’t the shocking part. The shocking part was riding on the shelf in the space between the rear window and the back seat: a cat. This particular cat was plump and white, with golden eyes and a pinkish nose. Like all cats I’d ever dealt with, it took its time noticing me.

“Hey, Chet! Put a lid on it!”

I became aware that barking was going on – loud and piercing, a bit savage, even frightening if you were the type who could be frightened by barking, which I was not.

“Chet! Shut up!”

Was it possible that – ? I tried not barking. The barking stopped. At that moment the cat finally noticed me, noticed me in a very superior way I didn’t care for at all.

“Chet! I’m not telling you again. Lie down.”

I lay down. Not totally down, if totally down meant belly actually touching the seat, but lower, for sure; at least somewhat.

– from A CAT WAS INVOLVED (the C&B origin short story. You can read it on a phone! “Can you hold for a minute? I need to take this short story.”)

I know Chet doesn’t care for cats but his scenes with cats are hilarious.

Mpop’s and Loulou’s Mom: An excellent statue and what interesting items left for Homeless Jesus. One item, the Buffalo Bill’s hat, made me laugh.
Like BSTover, I envisioned Loulou trotting out the revolving door, head held high like royalty, an attitude taught her by Princess Sammie.

HOH: We await, with baity breath, pictures of your day.

BSD: I hope it is not a sore tooth that has you awake this early. I’m up to water the garden before it gets too hot.

MP&LLMom: That very Unusual Statue seems to be working its magic for the Homeless.

Hounds: Great Photos from yesterday and last night! Looking forward to more, more, more.

Dawson: Nana reports Tooth is still Uncomfortable, but the swelling is ever so slowly going down.
You say it’s Hot up there? It’s Cloudy and Overcast here, but beginning Tuesday a promise of Warm and Sunny. A little late for the Holiday I’d say. Growl.

B & Dawson: Now you have Us picturing LouLou strutting through the Hotel lobby and out the Revolving Doors…probably in high heels picked out by Natasha. snicker.

    Greetings!

What better way to start a Sunday than with Chetspeak! This excerpt made me laugh.

Love the pictures from Plunderfest South, and of the Storyteller in the Royal booth!

BSD, I am laughing at your description of Sammie strutting through the revolving the revolving door in heels picked out by Natasha. I picture Sammie in the sparkly, ruby slippers from the WOZ. I think my VBFF Belle Starr would agree. Hoping Nana will be feeling tip-top soon. Please tuck her in under the quilt. I am sending her big hugs.

RIO! Can’t wait to see your friend’s new Subaru. That is the fastest growing car dealership in the U.S. And since I love black, I think your friend is making an excellent choice. chuffle!

Loulou does go through the revolving door with her head held high. Now that she’s learned how to do it, she wants to go in every revolving door that we pass on our walks.

The artist who made the Homeless Jesus wants to have one in every city. Recently one went to Orlando.

Good afternoon all. We finally read A Cat Was Involved along with Iggy Chronicles, now that they can be ordered without owning a Kindle. This might have been the case for a while, and we weren’t aware of it. Both were very enjoyable.

Great pictures. We were wondering the same thing about Bluekat.

Sounds like A & L will have a fun and profitable day. Yay!

For those of you who have enjoyed the Raine Stockton/Cisco series by Donna Ball, I have some good news for you. Donna has started a new series, to be known as the Dogleg Island Mysteries, which features a border collie named Flash (and coincidentally the title of the first book is “Flash”). She is a wonderful writer and plotter, and the book is really terrific. It is certainly a bit more gritty than the Raine Stockton series, but not too gritty, and the suspense quotient is quite high. Also, unlike Cisco (a golden retriever) in the Raine Stockton series, who has an important role to play as an actor, with Flash, some of the book is actually narrated from his point of view (sound familiar). Indeed, one of the Amazon reviewers drew the direct connection to the Chet & Bernie series, and I think imitation is the highest form of flattery. Flash is no Chet, in that only specific parts of the book are told from his point of view, but it does add an important element to the story, and Flash is truly an endearing character. I hope Donna keeps writing more in the Raine Stockton series, but we are looking forward with great anticipation to the second book in the Dogleg Island series as well. Separately, Donna has a different series that are NOT mysteries, but simply well told cozies called The Ladybug Farm series. That is highly recommended as well for those of you who are fans of hers.

Sad News out of New Jersey: John Nash (the Brilliant Mathematician and subject of A Beautiful Mind) & his wife have died. The Nashes were passengers in a taxi whose driver lost control after he tried to pass another vehicle on the New Jersey Turnpike. The couple was traveling back from the airport, having just returned from a Trip to Norway, where Nash had received the Abel Prize for Mathematics. They had been married nearly 60 Years.

Howdy, and a very late Happy Egg Day to you all. This is a whirlwind weekend. This morning, we went on a Dog Walk (hike) at Monocacy Hill Park. We met 3 new friends there: Lucy, a pitbull/lab/dalmation mix, Izzy, whose real name we can’t pronounce or spell, but who looks like how we imagine Chet, and Sammy, a husky mix. We all got along splendidly and are now best friends. The next scheduled walk is June 7th.

Yesterday, Mom and Pop did a long bike ride on the Delaware Canal towpath. They started in New Hope, which is a touristy, artsy, quaint town, went up to Center Bridge, where they went over to New Jersey, and then down to Washington’s Crossing, and then back to New Hooe. They finished the day with lunch at Landings, which is one of their favorite spots in New Hope.
