Chetspeak on Sunday?

Will appear on Monday. Today is Sunday, yes, but also the first of the month. So meet Theo, Chet’s Friend of the Month for March. He’ll be in the thingy on Chet’s FB page for the month, and his human companion gets a signed (and paw-printed) copy of PAW AND ORDER. Next month this could be you. Just post a photo on Chet’s FB page – and while you’re there you can check out the gallery, link below. The random # generator does the rest!

Good morning and Happy Egg Day. Guess I should say hi to Theo, even if we will have to go to Facebookie to see him.

We here are sooo excited that it is finally March. Even tho there is still snow on the ground and it’s very wintery looking out there, we feel like we have turned the corner. By the end of March we can start playing outside and spring bulbs will be starting to peek out of the ground. Mentally it is uplifting to leave February behind.

Good morning, and Happy Egg Day! Speaking of eggs, Fern is once again enjoying the company of her sisters.
We are sad not to be picked FOM, but we must admit that Theo is a darlin’. Congratulations, Theo!!
B,M,&L, We here feel exactly the same way about March. It signals the beginning of the end of winter. But it does come in like a lion, as we here are getting a snowstorm today, that will later be turning into sleet and freezing rain. Yuck.
The Birthday Weekend continues. Last night was wings and beer at the ‘rents’ favorite Brit pub. This morning, they will be braving the storm to go have a special breakfast at a place called Say Cheese.

Welcome, Theo. That’s a great picture; I can almost hear you laugh. We’re not really laughing at my house because we’re still without water. The house lines are all good, but the city main is frozen. I suppose it will thaw naturally by May, and we’ll be back in business. It doesn’t seem that the city is doing much to hurry the thaw. Glad to see March arrive. Hope I never see another February like the one just ended. The calendar says we’re 20 days from SPRING. Let’s hope it arrives on time. Here’s a calendar so that you can mark off the days.

Good Morning All–I, too welcome March as a turning point (although, sadly, all kinds of turning points are involved– tomorrow marks the anniversary of the husband’s experiencing eternity). It IS raining here, which is always welcome, and all three dogs seem warm and contented.
It’s nice to have a FOTM again. Theo seems happy–yes, that IS quite a grin. I wonder if he’s Theodore, Theobald, Theodosius or…?
Keep warm and dry all, and travel safely, if you’re traveling.

Blou was one in a million. Not sure Maggie or Lucy would sit still with glasses perched on their faces.

Just got back from shopping for a new coffee pot. Could only find one with a thermal carafe. Most of the shelf was taken up with the coffee makers that use those little 1-cup disposable containers (Keurig types). Those are really bad for the environment, because the containers are not bio-degradable. Also, I like to throw my used coffee grounds on the garden.

Thank you Jay for the cool calendar page. I love the Dogs of Ron Burns art.

The Snowhook Calendar has 7 pictures of AJ wearing his various Iditarod bibs. The lowest number is 34. I would love to see him start with a low number to see what he does from the front of the pack. Let’s all think number 2! That’s as high as some of us can count and it’s a good round number. Oh, and “Real men wear bibs” is the caption.

The Plunderer Calendar has a picture of Rio that looks as if it is “unauthorized” and appears to be Rio sleeping it off after a Plunderer party at an undisclosed location. The close up of Beau is a much better photograph and the one of Beau and Rio together is fantastic!

We tried melting snow to flush the toilet, but filling a 30 gallon container with snow and waiting for it to melt didn’t yield enough water to flush once. Fortunately I had boiled lots of water when the alert was first posted. That water is safe to drink, but there is so much “stuff” in the bottom of the pots that I won’t use it except for the toilet. Tyb and I have been using bottled water for drinking. Actually we count ourselves lucky. Our weather has proven, as it often does, inconvenient, but it is never catastrophic. Boiling water is not task compared to rebuilding after a tornado, hurricane, flood, mudslide etc. that other people experience.
    Masquers,
I love the picture. I hope our spring will be as big and bright as the red one around the corner.

    Barb,
Re: your comment about Maggie and Lucy sitting still with glasses on. It makes me think of one of my favorite memories of Blou. When I had the gallery, I was located next to a toy store (both along an interior hallway) in our building. Blou used to hang out in the toy store and the owner would put Harry Potter glasses on him. He never seemed to mind and would wander the halls wearing his glasses. One morning a woman came into the store looking for me and Blou. She said that she wanted to thanks us. When I asked her why she told me that her son Dougie had had his glasses for 12 weeks and that she couldn’t remember one morning that she hadn’t had to raise hell to get him to put them on. Then one Saturday Dougie came to the store, saw Blou wearing his glasses and from that point on thought his glasses were really cool. She never had to tell him again to put on his glasses.

Jay: the only thing worse than being without water is being without heat. For years I kept extra gallons of water on hand; if nothing else it was a part of my emergency earthquake preparedness. My main fireplace is for burning wood (family room fireplace is gas). I want to convert the wood one to gas but I still think that if a power outage hits, it might be nice to have a wood fireplace.

    Plunderers heading north…a word about eyebrows. I recently did permanent makeup (tattooing) and right now I look like one of those “mature” ladies with draw on black eyebrows. Not a good look but the color will calm down in a few days. So don’t be shocked when you see me. I am also a plumper Plunderer than in the past. {{{sigh}}}

The Hobbit Hotel has undergone changes…all to the good. It now includes deluxe accommodations for cats.

    Hobbitt,
I think you’re wise to keep a wood fireplace and you’re right about being without heat. I can’t imagine it. Yesterday my furnace had a hiccough and when I woke up the temperature in the house was 50 degrees. One twist of the thermostat and things came back on and it didn’t take long to warm up. We’ve had, for us, really extreme temps this winter. February was the coldest month ever since records have been kept. I’ve gone out for my first walk on a couple of mornings when it was -18 degrees and the wind chill was hovering around -28. Needless to say it was a short walk and I did what I had to without any monkey business. We had several days when the weather man commented that the temperature in Anchorage was 40 degrees higher than it was in Bradford. Thank heavens for global warming.

The maps are works of art indeed. And Mama can actually read them without her super-duper, making-little-tiny-jewelry-parts, glasses.

Teddy – you and Zeta are truly a match made by Dog. Wonderful to see you having so much fun.

Jay and Tyb – with your situation, we have nothing to complain about here. But we are still complaining. We think if we see one more snowflake falling from the sky, we will just go hide under the bed until June. sob, sob, sob……

Our poor little apple tree is literally buried up to its notch in snow. The deer don’t even have to jump the back fence anymore – they just delicately pick their little hooves up and step over the top rail. The only reason we don’t go walkabout is that we can’t get TO the fence – Callie only broke a path through the words, and the sides are too steep for us to climb out.

I told Edgar, Conan and Pretty about snow, and showed them pictures (and also our own distant San Gabriel Mountains, which are currently white) but they do not believe me. If we get snow if the high desert I will take them on a field trip so they can see snow on cacti (always an interesting sight).

Diane C: how is Conan doing. I was worried about your post the other day.

Taking a break …. It turned out to be a very gloomy day rather than a sunny one as forecast on my weather app. In fact, this morning had dense fog warnings. I don’t know why I even bother looking at the weather forecast.

Recent rescue…orange tabby gave birth 2 days after being put in foster care to 6 orange kittens. Four of the six have 6 toes, one has practically “opposable thumbs.” They are now 10 days old and haven’t yet opened their eyes. I am glad I am not the one having to keep track of their weights since they all look alike. It looks like I will be fostering a female cat being returned to us but it won’t happen this coming week. LOL

I think my VBFF and I will both be in a bad mood if we do not have one of those kitties.

Staff, Speaking of kitties, who will be taking care of my god-kitties while you and Mr. Fireslippers make your trip to the great state of Alaska?

    Great story about the glasses.

Is anyone going to watch Secrets and Lies tonight? It is a 10 part series that seems like it might be similar to Broad Church. I think the original version was Australian.

T and G–$89.00!!!???!!!For that kind of money he should throw in a car! (That’s $9 per snowball or nearly…if you have an old-style refrigerator you can make your own when you defrost…)
    C. Hobbit–Conan is to some extent showing his age, but also doing or learning something new every few days (we’re still working on using the training pads). As he still maintains his appetite and choosy eating habits (won’t touch kibble if there’s a chance at some treats or people food) he sometimes overdoes (my fault, but he always acts so happy!). Otherwise, if I’m doing as well at 112 I’ll be well-content (I’d hope to be just a little better at remembering where the ladies is.)
I just told him you asked about him. He glanced up from his 18 hours of daily beauty sleep and glanced meaningfully at the kitchen.

HOH–Please just take it easy and go to be (and have pleasant dreams). Dream that I am capable of constructing a sentence that uses “glance” only once because I know some synonyms (unlike the above…)
    Later, all. Keep warm.

    Orange cats are the best!

Staff wants me to tell Rose that the Turtleman will be on cat duty while she and the Mr. are off having a great time. She left him strict instructions. Why she did not tell him to feed us 6 times a day I don’t know. We should be fed early and often.

    Orange, or Blonde? You decide.
