Chetspeak on Sunday
“Snow, big guy.”
Snow? I’d heard of it, of course, seen it lots of times on TV during the divorce, when for some reason Bernie had really gotten into skiing videos. The snow sent coldness up into the air. I sniffed at it. Snow went right up my nose! I sneezed. Bernie laughed. I licked at the snow. It turned into water on my tongue, although not much water. Bernie picked some up and patted it – hey! – patted it into the shape of a ball. Yes! One thing about Bernie: just when you think he’s done with amazing you, he amazes you again. Now, after all this time, I was just finding out he could turn snow into a ball.

OH, Chet, I love your take on everything Bernie. What a guy! He is amazing in Chet’s, eyes. Always the smartest guy in the room.
Good morning and Happy Chetspeak Sunday.
And since it is Egg Day Sunday, we are having an Egg-In-The Basket. First thing Barb learned to cook from her Betty Crocker kid’s cookbook about 60 years ago. Take a hamburger bun, cut a hole in the top and break an egg into it. Add a little butter and s & p. Bake till the yoke starts to set and then top with a slice of cheese. Delish!

Good morning, B&M&L and everyone! We love that Chetspeak and our mom did that ball thing with the snow yesterday but they disappear when they get thrown! Perfect Chetspeak for so many this week and we bet OFA is sick and tired of snow by now. Our snow is gone 🙁 Barb, great looking cake ask Maggie how it tasted and let us know. Yep, Egg Day, we just finished egg and kibble and bacon jerkey for dessert…delish!
Have a superior Sunday and hopefully a little sun in it!
8:35 am on February 22nd, 2015
Barb, our mom has that same cookbook. Wow, you must be twins! A few years back that same book was reissued (reprinted?) and mom got it for the grands.
8:36 am on February 22nd, 2015
Chet is making me laugh out loud!
Good morning all.
8:39 am on February 22nd, 2015
HOH, we are twins because I bought the same cookbook for Lily. May have to order one for Lyla, who also likes to cook.

Rio: A show similar to Rubicon? The first three episodes of Allegiance are on On Demand. I’ll check them out. Thank you.

Tupper’s Mama: I am enjoying Pie in the Sky. I recalled your saying that you like it when I ordered the dvd. I’d love to have some of his meat pie–the one that is entirely encased in a round crust. Yum!
9:01 am on February 22nd, 2015
Barb, mom got it for the grandBOYS as well. Older 2 are very creative in the kitchen.

Good morning, All! Happy Egg Day. Our hens are laying like crazy these days, so there is no shortage of eggs around here.
Pop just finished plowing us out. Again. The temperatures are supposed to go up near 40 today, but then plummet again overnight, with a high of 17 tomorrow. Better make the most of today!
9:28 am on February 22nd, 2015
Howlers, How are Cleida and Fern these days? Spring is the most natural time for hens to lay. Even my older Banties laid more March-May.
10:14 am on February 22nd, 2015
Fern is doing well in her own little coop. Sadly, Cleida did not survive her infection.
10:17 am on February 22nd, 2015
O’H we are so sorry to hear about Cleida but Fern is one stuborn, independent chick!
10:24 am on February 22nd, 2015
Love Chet’s Attitude. He is My Hero.
O’Howlers: That is very Sad News. We are sorry to hear about Cleida. RIP little hen.
10:25 am on February 22nd, 2015
Greetings!
More snow and ice here in my neck of the woods. Last night, Grizz and I went out to dinner to celebrate our 27th anniversary. After dinner, we came home and turned TCM On Demand on, and watched “The Blue Dahlia” with Alan Ladd (boy, he was short), and Veronica Lake.
Maggie, I loved your picture showing your counter surfing skills! Don’t be surprised if that one shows up on the 2016 calendar! :^)
10:26 am on February 22nd, 2015
O’Howlers, I am very sorry to hear about Cleida.
10:58 am on February 22nd, 2015
We are sorry to hear about Cleida, too. Not surprising though. We never had good luck with a hen once they started acting poorly. We did better with injuries than with illness. You have to try, but sometimes these things just happen.
Are you still thinking of getting a few more chicks in the Spring?
Rose, Happy Anniversary to you and Grizz. Maybe if you use that picture, you can crop out the person on the left.
10:59 am on February 22nd, 2015
Wose, Alan Ladd’s height wasn’t discussed much and there are all sorts of guesses from 5’5″ to 5’9″. His military recods split the difference at 5’7″. Seems like a giant to our mom since she is vertically challenged.
11:10 am on February 22nd, 2015
Heard somewhere that Ladd would stand on a box to disguise his height challenges.
Rose: Happy belated anniversary to you and the Prof!
11:21 am on February 22nd, 2015
Mom does not want more peeps yet, because she is still afraid to put Fern in the big coop with her sisters. Besides, we are getting more than enough eggs for them, and plenty for our Egg Day. We don’t know why every day is not Howler Egg Day. Seems logical to us.
11:22 am on February 22nd, 2015
Happy Anniversary to Wose&Grizz
11:43 am on February 22nd, 2015
Howlers, Your hens will keep laying for years, just not as much as they get older.
Masquers, we had heard that about Ladd also. There was some actress that he was in a movie with who was tall, so he had to stand on a box for close up romantic scenes.
11:44 am on February 22nd, 2015
Happy Chetspeak Day to Everyone!
Happy Anniversary to Wose and Griz!
Howlers, I am sorry about Cleida. I know your folks did everything they could for her.
Maggie, That is a pretty picture of you and the cake.
11:48 am on February 22nd, 2015
Happy Anniversary Wose and Grizz!
We will now discuss how much we love snow…..

So there!
11:52 am on February 22nd, 2015
According to Google, Alan Ladd had to be elevated in scenes with everyone except Veronica Lake, who was only 5’1″. They used platforms for inside shots, and dug trenches for outside scenes. He died of an accidental overdose at age 51.
11:56 am on February 22nd, 2015
One more Alan Ladd bit of trivia: In The Blue Dahlia, he played a bad guy, but when the police gave out a description of him, the left out the height. Guess 5’6″ didn’t sound scary for a bad guy.
11:57 am on February 22nd, 2015
Sounds like Tom Cruise. Heh!

Howlers: We have Cleida. She is safe. It surprised us that our natural instinct to chase and eat doesn’t exist here. She stared at us. We stared at her. At first there was a lot of staring, now there is playing and love. Cleida spends most of her time riding atop a newf as we run and play here. Did we mention she is restored to Prime like all of us on this Side of the Bridge. Before her arrival there was great debate about which came first, the chicken or the egg. Cleida offered great insight and cleared that up right away.

About the article from yesterday—hello? I was just 11 weeks old and had only known my Mama and the Giant for one week when I proved that I know if someone is trustworthy or not. We had arrived at a family function on the Giant’s side. Mama had me in her arms as she was hanging up her coat. She turned and a family member by marriage was standing there watching us. She didn’t like this guy since the first time she met him. She will tell you her gut always twisted when he was around. He was very soft and gentle when he asked if he could pet me. I wasn’t having any of it. My paws were firm but not loving as far as he was concerned. I did not like this guy, no I did not. A few moments later the Giant returned to see what was keeping us from joining the family gathering. What did he find? That guy having literally backed us into a corner with no way out and me in a lunging position in my mama’s arms. I was growling and foaming at the mouth at this guy. Boo and hiss! The Giant saw what was going on and pushed the guy away from us and told him to stay away from his wife. By wife, I’m sure he meant me, too. I did my job until the Giant arrived.

Luna, Who’s a good dog?
1:03 pm on February 22nd, 2015
Oh Luna, you are the best.
Sorry to hear about our Plunderer chick.
It is supposed to get to the mid-40s today which will allow me to chip off some of the ice in the driveway. I did a bit yesterday while it was raining.
As a child, I would have loved the streets turning to ice skating rinks, as an adult I hope to stay put today even though the main roads should be fine.

1:05 pm on February 22nd, 2015
BML: I’m a good dog. I’ve known that for ages. The Giant left on Friday to train and returned a few short hours ago. Who did he leave in charge of my mama? Not Pancho, not Lefty, not Belle Starr, but me, me, me.
More to BML: The Thieves thank you for the advice you gave last night. They have added it to their core values.

Mom is like the Pixie; her stomach always hurts if she is around bad people. Fortunately, the vast majority of people are wonderful, but if she ever gets tht twisty feeling in her gut, she pays close attention.
1:18 pm on February 22nd, 2015
Today is mom and dad’s anniversary also. Which makes them almost twins with Rose and Grizz! It is raining and they are going to stay home by the fire.
1:28 pm on February 22nd, 2015
Wolfie – so good to see you, and please wish your folks Happy Anniversary from all of us.
Luna – please ask your Mama if she has been to the post office lately.
We are so glad that there is such a wonderful reporter from the Other Side Of The Bridge. It always warms our hearts to read the reports.

I agree with Tupper’s Mama about the reports from the other side of the Bridge.
Wolfie, Happy Anniversary to your folks!

Dawson: check your SDD. I have a question for youse.
2:49 pm on February 22nd, 2015
We are very happy, on a sad sort of way, toreadthe good report fromThe oTher Side of the Bridge.
Happy Anniversary to Wolfie’s mom and pop!
Our mom and pop just unloaded a wagon of hay. We supervised, and now we are pooped! Good news is that they say that work eliminated the need for their EA Sports Active upper body workout that was scheduled for today.
2:53 pm on February 22nd, 2015
Mama Luna, when I grow up I want to be just like you.
Wolfie, Happy Anniversary to your mom and pop!
Thank youse for your anniversary wishes. Grizz had a busy week what with Valentine’s Day, my birthday, and our anniversary just days apart. I can not believe we have been married 27 years! Grizz is a good man…I think I’ll keep him.
Alan Ladd was a pipsqueak, wasn’t he? I read that he lobbied very hard to get the part of Lawrence in “Lawrence of Arabia.” David Lean gave the part to Peter O’Toole instead.

Back when we were a one-husky family, with the one husky being my best friend Boris, he proved his judgement twice. We used to have a regular maintenance contract with our local exterminator company. Our guy’s name was Dan, and he was a great guy. He and I would always enjoy a coffee together and have a nice kitchen table chat. Boris pretty much went about his own business while Dan was there. When he retired, a replacement came. Boris sat still and erect next to me, and refused to leave my side. He did not like that guy. I told Pop that from then on, he must be home when we got the service. I refused to be alone with that guy.
Another time, Boris and I were taking one of our normal long evening walks, and while walking thru a rather nice development not too far from home, a guy was standing by the curb, smoking a cigarette. Boris got on my outside and insistently pushed me over to the houses, as far from that guy as he could get me. I never doubted his judgement, and we skeedaddled as quickly as possible.
3:00 pm on February 22nd, 2015
I know you are probably thinking that didn’t prove anything, but for me, it did.
4:29 pm on February 22nd, 2015
I believe, O’Howlers’ Mom. There is a walker in our area that our two Schnauzers, Zoe and Murphy, will have nothing to do with. He tries to be friends with them, but they back away. He is probably harmless but now we keep an eye out and avoid him. Dogs know.
4:42 pm on February 22nd, 2015
O’H, there has ever only been one member in the Herd of Hounds that was an unreliable monitor and that was the Boxer, Emma P. She was unreliable because she was scared of every 2 legger except mom, dad and the godson. We nicknamed her “Spookey Butt”.
6:09 pm on February 22nd, 2015
We believe that Boris was definitely protecting you from a perceived danger. Either he was picking up bad vibes from that person, or he had a strong aversion to cigarette smoke, and felt it was dangerous.
One time a dog lover lady that worked with Barb came over to the house. They were visiting out in the yard when she lit up a cigarette. I wouldn’t get close to her after that. She was insulted but too bad.
6:26 pm on February 22nd, 2015
Chetspeak, Eggs and Snowballs!
Normally our snow is the consistency of sugar or salt, but today, because it warmed up to above freezing, we are able to make snowballs if we so wish. I do not.
O’Howlers: Sorry to hear about Cleida V.
I would trust my dogs instincts on people.
Some of my best friends are short people.
6:30 pm on February 22nd, 2015
Barb, Way back then, I used to smoke. It was not the smoke that Boris objected to.
6:34 pm on February 22nd, 2015
I have never met a person I didn’t like, but I always have a watchful eye, kind of like Tupper’s Mom’s “Watching Eyes” that hangs here. Mom always says she pities the fool who would try to hurt her in my presence.
6:37 pm on February 22nd, 2015
Oh yeah!
Rio: I finished the book. I loved the ending! Well, except for that one thing that happened to the sweetest guy in the whole book. The feeling of dread that I had at the beginning of the book gave way to a feeling of purpose and comradery between the core group of characters despite differences. Yes, a butterfly was involved.

The Fur Rondy races have been cancelled, due to poor trail conditions. Someone posted that it is 52 in Wasilla today. 🙁
7:40 pm on February 22nd, 2015
Rio, we are going to watch The Awards too. I don’t think we have seen any of the movies either, but there are several we definitely want to rent. Birdman is up for several awards but we have heard mixed reviews on it.
8:03 pm on February 22nd, 2015
Birdman!….I did not know anything about that movie till just a few minutes ago…snort!…An actor tries to make a comeback on Broadway – this sounds interesting!….wheeze!….Especially since Michael Keaton is the lead actor…heh!heh!
8:31 pm on February 22nd, 2015
I love Patricia Arquette, I really do. I loved her in the tv show Medium, and never missed a show. That being said, her hair looks like she pulled back into a messy pony while she is cleaning house. She is up for an award for Boyhood which was filmed over a 12 year period. I hope she gets it, and I hope Boyhood gets it for best picture. It’s 50-50% between that and Birdman.

Is it OK to make comments about the Oscars? Is everyone getting it at the same time?
I thought J K Simmons comments were wonderful and made me teary. What sweet things he said about his wife, kids and parents.
Howlers, I had the Copper River salmon tonight and it was unbelievably good! Wow, now I am spoiled!
9:07 pm on February 22nd, 2015
Bermuda!….Shorts! Coming up!….heh!heh!….That Neil cracks me up…snort!

I had an invitation from Amazon to order the echo for $100 instead of $200. I took them up on that offer however it won’t come until earliest July and maybe August. But it will give me the opportunity to play my music, many Glen Campbell songs, just by voice. I can fill this apartment with some really nice music by voice. We’ll see how that really works.
9:52 pm on February 22nd, 2015
I didn’t quite get the point of the underwear scene. Not my favorite.
And I was in the other room and missed the wearer of the dress. To whom did he address that comment about having balls to wear the dress?

I did not realize till tonight that Dakota Johnson (50 Shades of Gray) is the daughter of Melanie Griffin and Don Johnson.

10:40 pm on February 22nd, 2015
Thanks Dawson.
Rio, Patty didn’t sound drunk when she made her acceptance speech, so she just must be having a bad hair day.
10:44 pm on February 22nd, 2015
Oh dear. I am missing the Oscars (again) I don’t think I have watched them for 30 years. Let me know who wins the music award and the best picture award. I might go to a movie. Maybe.

Hmmm I hear what dollymama’s siayng here AND what you are siayng keer. (We are former public schoolers and current homeschoolers.) Sounds like keer, you are coming from the side of the parent’s responsibility and the problem with society in general institutionalizing children I totally agree with you. Maybe dollymama is coming from the side of the children who are in these situations since they are placed in these institutions, they might as well be taken care of? I can testify that plenty of kids in p.s. get dropped off dirty, hungry and unstimulated! Anyway, just thinking out loud!
