After a while, I grew aware that the Hawaiian shirt guy had moved next to Bernie and struck up a conversation, at first about Hawaiian shirts, then about something else.
“What I run,” he was saying, “is what you might call a hedge fund for the little guy.”
“Little guy?” said Bernie.
“Not little in terms of intelligence or ability,” the Hawaiian shirt man added quickly. “But for one reason or another, men of distinction who don’t happen to be Wall Street insiders. I’ve had some nice play in commodities lately. You’re familiar with the basics of tin futures?”
Bernie motioned for another drink, overturning the salt and pepper. “Can’t be that complicated,” he said.
“Exactly,” replied the Hawaiian shirt man. And to the bartender when Bernie’s drink came: “I’ll get that.”

Down Memory Lane:
February 8, 2010, exactly 5 years ago, there was a first mini-mission.
Ahem!…Today unbeknownst to anyone but PFC Wookie and myself,…Snort!…one of the most daring, and courageous feats of heroic dedication was displayed.
PFC Wookie volunteered to set out on a mission all by himself…Snort!…Carrying only the bare necessities including: sophisticated camera equipment, software modification CDs, networking manuals, wires, cable, heavy tools, a tazor (just in case), his dad’s blackberry, a mp3 player with all his favorite music, his favorite treats and rawhide chews, his hat, his glasses, toys, and last of all a photo of me, just to inspire him during the journey…Wheeze!
He made his way to the perps home…mmmm…and managed to get inside using a clever disguise. Spence and the gang thought they were looking at the new housekeeper when he appeared on their front door step, and in fact, were eagerly awaiting her arrival. Snort! So he AS a she walked right in… Snort!…then while Spence and Bernie were busy pulling ticks out of Chet…Grunt!…our guy, Wookie, was HANGING BY HIS TAIL…carefully setting in place the delicate camera equipment that will allow us to watch as Spence types, um…pounds out the next novel.
Wookie!…he had some trouble getting out of the house, the surveillance equipment was acting up and all at once everyone wanted their bathrooms cleaned!…Grunt!!…but Wookie, being a very smart Rookie Spy pulled a fast one, he said he needed to go shopping for some cleaning supplies, which alas, Spence and the gang were very short on…Snort!!…what a lucky break that those guys are so filthy.
He…She!.. No…He! – escaped and made it safely home to report everything today!…SNORT!…so now we all are one major step closer to finding out about the next book…Grunt!…no doubt there is a lot of work and Intel yet to be done. But things are in motion and you will all be called on to do your part…SNORT!…so be ready for anything!!

Sorry to say, here it is mimicing spring BUT we here in TN know that those sneaky snowstorms frequently come in March (like the blizzard of ’93 or the 6 inches of ’13). Today it is in the low 60’s outside and, golly, ever so pleasant. Don’t be fooled, WE know there is winter still coming!

That was back in the day when Wookie was still operating deeply undercover, masquerading as Private First Class (PFC) Wookie, so that his true identify as Agent 00Wookie remained a secret. Masquers! Your lawn is getting mowed in February? Seriously??? Unlike Teddy, we can’t even see our lawn. We have to put hay out for the horses, because they can’t get to grass. And this evening, we are getting the storm that is going to hammer Tupper and Gilly real bad. Around here, it won’t be much snow; however, it is starting as rain and then ICE before changing to snow tomorrow.
Cleida is still getting medicine, and it is difficult to tell if she is improving, although Mom said she saw her drink some water and eat some oatmeal. We think she is depressed being away from her sisters.

Barb!…We were doing okay through Parenthood until they threw in the baseball scene …sniffle!…Then we both lost it. I know we will watch it again as well…snuffle!…How can a show that good be taken off the air??…wheeze!
Sarah!…Canary! We finished the book this weekend also…sob!…I cried with Chin. Cried and cried. What an amazing story. I hate when amazing stories come to an end…sniffle!…I really do.

Rio, Since you finished it I will make a few comments before I really go. The writing was excellent. I liked Chin a lot and also BJ. I know BJ was a little wacky, but also very smart and witty at times. I cried for Chin. I cried for all the racial injustice and all the cruelty to animals in the last century. That was hard to read about. The only downside for me is that I was left with confusion about who Sarah really was. I thought there would be a more definitive ending about Sarah. Or am I missing something obvious?
