Chetspeak on Sunday

The perp looked around – what nasty little eyes he had! – and saw there was nowhere to go. We were in some kind of warehouse, big and shadowy, with a few grimy high-up windows and tall stacks of machine parts. I couldn’t remember how the warehouse fit in, exactly, or even what the whole case was all about; only knew beyond a doubt, from those nasty eyes and that sour end-of-the-line smell, a bit like those kosher pickles Bernie had with his BLT’s – I’d tried one; once was enough for the kosher pickles, although I always had time for a BLT – that this guy was the perp. I lunged forward and grabbed him by the pantleg. Case closed.

The perp cried out in pain, a horrible, high-pitched sound that made me want to cover my ears. Too bad I can’t do that, but no complaints – I’m happy the way I am (even if my ears don’t match, something I found out about a while back but can’t get into right now). The perp’s noises went on and on and finally it hit me that maybe I had more than just his pantleg. That happened sometimes: my teeth are probably longer than yours and sharper, too. What was that? Yes, the taste of blood. My mistake, but a very exciting one all the same.

– from THEREBY HANGS A TAIL (actually the very beginning).

Mornin’ CHobbit! Why in the name of dog are you up so early! Congrats on first (we think). Love that Chetspeak. Chet really gets on and off and on track so well!
WE had our Egg Day, another thing we love. We are also keeping an eye on Phillip and the Snowhook gang. Have a surefire Sunday!

BSD, you mentioned having trouble with the race tracker. Be sure to go to the HOME page and choose the Copper Basin 300 2015 or all you will see is from past years. Hope that helps.

Good morning all–[a] “mistake, but a very exciting one…” it’s my youth all over again!” Chet, I feel like you know me–not the blood thing exactly, but so many others…
I saw yesterday’s race pix, but that’s been it so far…the big excitement here is a little more RAIN!!! (Almost half an inch.)

    Happy egg and Chetspeak day.

Chet: I can imagine the look on your face when you ate that kosher pickle. Sour much?

DianeC: I think I will bake the chile rellenos next time. Perhaps I didn’t have the oil hot enough but they tasted a bit greasy.
Hope you are feeling better. You reminded me to practice the T’ai Chi. Classes started up again and I’m not the only one who forgot most everything.

We love rellenos, but the whole dipping into the batter, and frying them just so gives us a nervous tic. So we bake them. This works pretty well, and is far less greasy than fried. (ok, so sometimes we love the greasy, but that is only when we get them in New Mexico where they are fried in lard. And that is a RARE treat).

    BAKED CHILIES RELLANOS
*6 canned whole green chilies or 6 fresh chilies, roasted & peeled
*6 -2 inch chunks Monterey jack cheese about 1/2 thick
*6 -2 inch chunks of cheddar cheese about 1/2 thick
    *flour
    *8 eggs, separated
*1/4 cup butter, melted and allowed to cool off
*picante sauce, or salsa, hot as you like

    Directions:
Rinse the canned chiles and discard the seeds, or prep the fresh chiles by roasting and peeling

Cut a slit in each chile, and insert 1 strip of Jack and 1 strip Cheddar cheese

    Roll the chiles in flour.

Separate eggs. Beat egg whites until stiff.

Beat egg yolks and fold into whites.

Add melted butter (should not be hot) to the egg mixture

Grease generously a 8×8 baking dish.

Pour a thick coating of batter on bottom of dish.

Place chiles on top of batter, and spoon remaining batter over chiles.

Bake at 375° for 15 minutes, or until fluffy, firm and golden. Top with your choice of picante or fresh salsa.

As far as I am concerned Mr Quinn cannot write fast enough!! Chet & Bernie absolutely make my day. Although I’ve read everything that he’s written, my mom and I are constantly quoting Chet and cracking up. Just read “Paw and Order” and I cannot wait for another book to come out.

Thanks T&G’s Mama: That is almost exactly the recipe I used except I fried in oil instead of baking. You remind me that I bought some good lard at last summer’s farmer’s market. It’s hiding in the freezer.

Sebastion is in first place if I am tracking the mushers correctly. He is a Canadian from Whitehorse, Yukon and a good guy. You can recognize him by his trademark hair that sticks out all over the place. I wonder if he has decided to take up long distance racing again instead of writing about it. I enjoy his writing. I told HOH’s mom to take my picture, then sidled up next to Sebastian. He could’ve looked at me like, “Who is this piss-ant”, but he didn’t. He just smiled.

I took time away from watching my brother’s race today. Wyatt said we needed to pray for Beau and Beau’s Broncos. They were doing well when we started praying, but then things started to go down hill. We tried to figure out what could be the problem. Wyatt even prayed for guidance to know. In the fourth quarter, Wyatt grabs my scruff to take my head of the bowing position and informs me I should stop praying. Something about me, my thieving ways, the efficacy of my prayers, and the good Lord being forgiving but not to an insane degree. So I stopped praying, but it was too late. My lady says I’m to tell Beau that I’m sorry.
