Chetspeak on Sunday
“Nothing,” Bernie said. “What’s the name of the houseboat?”
“Little Jazz.”
Bernie put his hands on the desk, leaned back. “Little Jazz?”
“That’s what I said.”
“Named after Roy Eldridge?”
Vannah shrugged. “Never heard of him, but the Boutettes know a ton of people down in bayou country, so anything’s possible.”
Was I following this right? Vannah didn’t know Roy Eldridge? His trumpet did things to my ears, the best kind of things, especially when he played on If You Were Mine with Billie Holiday, which we blast in the Porsche just about every single day.
“Tell you what,” Bernie said. “We’ll take the case.”
Because Vannah didn’t know Roy Eldridge? Bernie was full of surprises, just one of the lovable things about him.

I don’t know Roy Eldridge.
Good morning all.
9:15 am on December 28th, 2014
Good morning, all. Happy Egg Day. We don’t know him either, Bee. We will go find his music and have a listen, but just now, we are listening to Pandora via Pop’s new Chromecast.
9:23 am on December 28th, 2014
Good morning, HRH B and everyone! We don’t kknow either but loved the Chetspeak logic. Bernie knows Roy Eldridge so therefore the boat’s name…whoa right there. Like Chet says about so therefores. Happy Chetspeak, and Egg Day and Sunday. Have a salubrious Sunday.

Greetings!
I believe this is the song of which Bernie and Chet speak:

There is an annoying ad in front of this video.
Happy Egg Day!

Good morning all. Happy Sunday and all that.
Nice to hear from Mary Lou last night. Hope she is feeling tip top today.
20 degree drop in temps from yesterday, but no snow in sight, sigh.

WE couldn’t get any Roy Eldridge info to post but beside working with Billie Holiday, we read that his style influenced Dizzy Gillespie.
10:31 am on December 28th, 2014
Morning all. We never cared for Billie Holiday’s style (Gasp! – don’t throw us off the blog, OFA), so therefore aren’t familiar with Roy Eldridge.
We got good news this morning. Dear friends who moved far away are in the area for holidays. We are having dinner with them tonight. Can’t wait to see them!

For some reason, that video is inavailable for us.
A while back, we had a discussion about vaccuum cleaners. Our Miele Alize was still new, but we can now say that it is by far our favorite vaccuum ever. We have no need of a power nozzle, simce we do not have carpeting. What we do have is husky fur. Lots and lots of husky fur. This lightweight canister has maximum suction, unlike uprights which only have good suction if you use a power nozzle, and even if the power nozzle is used, they don’t pick up all this fur. Also, the attachments are so darn easy to use, and to attach and detach. So if any of our fellow shedding canine friends are looking for a good vaccuum, we highly recommend this one. Miele is a German brand, and well-known for quality. We have a Miele dishwasher, too, and it is coveted by all of our friends.

Amalia, I knew we were twins. I realize I am supposed to like Billie Holiday, but she is not my favorite either. She is not even in the top ten.
I guess I will go sit in the corner with Amalia.

My best gal Zeta brought her mom and dad over last night for a special Christmas dinner celebration. Gifts were exchanged and everyone had a wonderful time. We were both properly decked out for the occasion as well, wearing our special Christmas collars.

Who’s an adorable puppy couple?
11:46 am on December 28th, 2014
Does that make TRR and Zeta the FOoD?
11:50 am on December 28th, 2014
Now we know what’s wrong…

11:59 am on December 28th, 2014
I know many of you don’t like Billie Holiday but I love jazz and Billie Holiday. Thanks for the suggestion, Spence, and the link, Wose.
We are “socked in” today. A good day to go back to bed and read a P.D.James book.
12:07 pm on December 28th, 2014
FOoD?
Yes! Teddy and Zeta’s holiday photo is perfect!
12:23 pm on December 28th, 2014
Good Morning and Happy Sunday, All–colder here (i actually had to turn on the heat in the house–it got to something like 48(F) outside, and the overcast is looking like RAIN (still appreciated but I hope it won’t mess up my planned hike up Mt. Hollywood on the first).
Teddy and Zeta–Scott and Zelda without the alcohol (and with extra legs)!
Dawson–I hope today finds you feeling MUCH better.
Just read the various menu items on yesterday’s blog. I agree with the “This is a job for wine” sentiment, and I didn’t understand a lot of the other stuff discussed (although it does seem to be a pierogi time of year). I’ve been having a lot of noodles and potatoes topped with baba ganoush–very tasty, and I still haven’t put any of the weight back yet, so Xmas miracles time, I guess.
I’m off to meditate, and will be keeping all of you in my thoughts.
12:58 pm on December 28th, 2014
We don’t like Billy Holiday either.
We do love pictures of our favorite couple….Teddy and Zeta.
Happy Chetspeak Day Everyone!!

Have had sore throat, cold and slight fever for a couple of days.
I have someone wanting to adopt my scared mama cat. She is familiar with the situation and said that she owned a “challenging cat” for 13 years who died a year ago. She wants this one. I said that I would deliver her but have been unable to pick her up and get her into a carrier. I tried off and on all day yesterday and am so discouraged today. I only once was able to get her and carry her to the carrier but she got away as I was putting her inside. Except for mornings which has now passed, I usually don’t see her. I’ve blocked off adjoining rooms and she can’t hide behind furniture but she still eludes me. I am sad as this is a good chance for her to have a forever home.
2:37 pm on December 28th, 2014
C.Hobbit, Can the lady that wants to adopt the kat help you capture her?
Mom has been in your situation before and it took two people to catch the kat and put it in a carrier.
Mom knows nothing about kats, but it was a successful kat capture mission.
3:02 pm on December 28th, 2014
Kat-Kapture!…Mission!….Woooo Hoooo!…CHobbit, I would volunteer to help you but I am here and you are there…snort!….You must get help with this Kat-Kapture Mission, oh yes you must!…chuffle!
3:23 pm on December 28th, 2014
Mmm, are gloves an option in the kat-kapture? Is backup available? A single room? Lack of furniture? Water and/or food in the Kat Karrier? We are just offering ideas. Mom’s only experience with kat kapturing was kaputsky when her ex-m i l tiried to put them into cardboard boxes. Bad idea 🙁 Can you say scratches?
4:19 pm on December 28th, 2014
Well, the potential cat owner has changed her mind. Next up: in the coming week all the cats and kittens except scared mama should be gone. I will move the cat downstairs in the small bedroom which she can call her own. I will feed and visit and hopefully she will feel safe and comfortable and start changing for the better. Once I can get her to start playing, she will have turned a corner towards adoptability.
I have let the foster organization know that I will not foster anymore cats or kittens until scared mama is ok and has found a home. They always remind me of all the unadoptable cats they still have after months and months but that does not change my mind.
4:30 pm on December 28th, 2014
Stand tough, CHobbit!

It is a Christmas miracle. Someone got mom out of bed and is getting her out into the world. She is going to see “Big Eyes” in a few minutes. She was still in her nightie until 2 p.m. Amazing what the chance to go somewhere will do for motivation. Our Niki left about 11, sniff. Bad news is that mom will be gone during out dinner time. Poor starving doggies. She did give us our giant Christmas bones to tide us over.
Later taters.
4:43 pm on December 28th, 2014
I am not a Billie Holiday fan either.
Teddy and Zeta—This here blog’s super-couple. I am quite sure Santa was very good to both of them.
Hobbit: Although I do not feel sick, I have had a sore throat for about two weeks now.
4:47 pm on December 28th, 2014
Macy, I am glad that someone got your mom out of bed. I know how she feels. New meds, and the threat of going to sleep-away camp help to keep me motivated to face a new day. Your mom is always in my thoughts.
4:59 pm on December 28th, 2014
ML, enjoy your dinner and movie. WE expect a full report but NO spoilers!
5:03 pm on December 28th, 2014
C.Hobbit, Stand firm! I don’t like that the rescue people are trying to lay a guilt trip on you. Don’t let them.
Hi Miss Macy! We are glad your mom is getting out of the house.
5:04 pm on December 28th, 2014
We still can’tviewthat video, but we aren’t wild about Billie Holliday. Sometimes yes, sometimes not so much.
Diane, that is a Christmas miracle! Mom has been denying herself almost all Christmas goodies, because she knows she would not stop, and then when she would get on the scale, she’d be distraught.
Teddy and Zeta have to be the cutest couple ever.
Hobbit, don’t feel bad about the scared mama. T.C. has arrived late to every v-e-t appointment she ever had, because she is impossible to find once a cat carrier is anywhere in this house. To get her in one, the carrier must be hidden in another faraway room. Mom feeds her, then just when poor T.C. begins to eat, she is snatched up and taken to the room with the carrier. The door is immediately shut. A towel goes around the legs and paws/claws. Then T.C. Is dropped into the carrier, butt and hind legs first, while the carrier is sitting on its end.

Hello everyone, we have been MIA most of the day. Now settling in for dinner and some tv watching. Anything good on tonight?
Great picture of Teddy and Zeta.
Sorry the scared kitty’s prospective home didn’t happen.
Happy to see that ML got out and about today. What do you think of the movie? Barb wants to see it. Also Unbroken, but NOT The Interview!
7:33 pm on December 28th, 2014
CHobbit, good for you! You really care for the momma cat. The agency is looking at volume like this momma cat is a throwaway, but she is not and you know it.
7:48 pm on December 28th, 2014
Slowly slowly our kitten/cat situation is improving. Abbie lets them walk by her(sometimes) without running away (and thus getting chased).
Pot pie is in the oven. Beef with marjoram as per the Herbs. I am now trying to rewrite the recipe so the ingredients are listed in the order they are used and the directions are in the proper order also. It is amazing how helpful that is to someone cooking food.
After all that preparation I am hungry!
No recent attempts to match bootie funds. I may have to win the feather keychain myself. I really like it. That will leave the butterfly keychain for some other plunderer. And (heh) if I am the first donor since our last match, I will also get the chet the dog necklace.
I am just warning y’all in case you were hoping for one of those.

I am learning more about the kittens early life. They LOVE the broom. Now that is the first time I have had cats who like Whenever Sonya or I get out the broom the kittens are THERE! I figured it out over the last day or so. Since these kittens were treated like dogs they associate brooms with food dropped on the floor. And from the way they scavenge I am pretty sure food was scattered on the ground whenever they were fed. What little scavengers they are.
They also associate counters with food. Even in the bathroom if I am at the sink counter little Keiko is screaming to be UP UP UP!. If I pick her up she looks all over for food. They are going to be a challenge. Not as much as CHObbits scared Momma but still, a challenge.
I have given up keeping them off the dining room table. If there is food on it they are banned but the rest of the time they get a pass. And so it goes.

Staff!….Can you tell us just how much is needed to complete the Bootie Fund?…snort!…I know we are very close but I forget the detailed amount…sniff!

Bad!….We have been watching the Breaking Bad Marathon….yeeep!….I am in awe of the excellent writing involved in this show. The characters are a thing of beauty…wheeze!

I don’t think Teddy and Zeta ever take a bad photo. I hoped Zeta enjoyed her special gift. They look so happy. I wonder what they are looking at. I also noticed that Zeta is w/o a leash for the first time (probably because this is the first indoor photo of them).
One kitten downstairs and one mama cat upstairs adopted today (not the scared mama but her sister). Mama cat of litter downstairs has a cold. Poor thing. Watery eyes and nose and some breathing through the mouth. But clear watery fluid not goopy which indicates bad infection. Hope kittens will be ok.

Oh that pot pie was delish! So far we have had 4 meals from the rib roast. The roast, the soup, the soup with dumplings and tonights pot pie (which has some leftovers). I feel quite proud of my thrifty ways. There is at least another meal of soup waiting.
This was in the St Paul paper today. It is about Sled dog season here in Minnesota.

Rio, Let me see. The bootie fund is on the other computer but I can remember it pretty well.
We have 1295 pledged and 105 matching bucks available. That means that if some Plunderers out there donate 105 more dollars we will be at 1510 which is over our goal.
BOOTIE BOOTIE BOOTIE

Or maybe we will be at 1505. That would still be over our goal. I didn’t use the calculator to do my math. cough cough cough. And my mouth was full of lemon poppyseed muffins and Dad was calling me to say he is ready for his eye drops

Love Chet Speak, but not so much Billie Holiday. Now some of C&B’s other musical choices I’m all good with. Glad you’re liking the Miele. I saw one once in a vacuum cleaner store. The thing that I was most impressed with at the time was how quiet the thing was! Couldn’t drop $1200 on it at the time though. Still like our Shark Rotator very much, and still don’t like our Kirby nearly as much. Save lots of money and get the Shark instead of the Kirby, we say.
We went out and Leno made a new friend, Cheyenne the GSD. Came from the same breeder that Hilda is coming from. Same father, different mother. Both of them spent the time running and wrestling but mostly schlurping and schlobbering on each other. We believe a good time was had by all.
9:34 pm on December 28th, 2014
“Big Eyes” was very enjoyable. I had a good time. Now it is dark 30 and I am ready to hit the hay.
Hasta manana

Buddy and Leno, schlurping and schlobbering are doos if you have 4 legs!
9:41 pm on December 28th, 2014
Of course they are! It was lots of fun watching them having such a good time.
9:54 pm on December 28th, 2014
Staff, enjoyed the sled dog article.
So glad that ML saw AND enjoyed a movie!
Mom’s a late night wussie. (Besides, she’ll wake up every 2 hours)
Saying nighty night.

Buddy, Our Miele was $649. Is that too high? Well, not if you’d see all of our fur! Heh!
