Chetspeak on Sunday

“If I’m such a moron,” Frenchie said, “how come I got fourteen hundred on my SATs?”

“You took the SATs?” Bernie said.

“Manner of speaking,” said Frenchie. “My kid brother Ralph took them for me, so it’s basically me, DNA-wise.”

    Hello All and a Happy Egg Day.
    I had forgotten the exchange above, but actually, Frenchie’s remark–“It’s basically me DNA-wise” does betray some logical thinking, however compromised in its implications.
    I have to go back to school tomorrow. (Sigh) It was sooo nice to have some time off.
    Have a wonderful Sunday with whatever kind of weather will make you happiest.

    Good Sunday morning to all of you.
    Wonder how Alice Johnson is tolerating her new kids? Will she accept them? Will she team up with Abbie to stuff them into a quilt? The people (and the Wrotten Kats) want to know.

    Basil has taken to stalking the CubKat. Hoping it is just a phase.

    Tupper’s Mama, didn’t Basil stalk Rio, too?

    What is Basil’s end game? Does he just stalk, or does he pounce and roll Cubby around on the floor?

    Icky day ere,. but at least the temps are moderate and all the snow has melted.

    Barb is excusing herself to the garage to take advantage of the 45 degrees, before temps drop later today. She has another DIY project going. Bought a used pine farm table and is going to paint it. Also redoing two ladder back chairs that she bought in 1966. They have been painted green, blue, tan and white. Now they will be black. Will take a before and after pic, in case anyone is interested.

    Rio, did your friend’s maw leave the turkey in the brine or did she interfere?

    Going to go check on some auction items. BBL

    B&M&L, mom had some ladderback chairs. Sh thought they were tippy back to front if anyone wiggled. Is that a ladderback trait or did she just have wonky chairs?

    cAlice is still spending most of her time in the closet. I put her special pillow with the soft cuddle fleece fabric on it and maybe I made it too comfy for her. She doesn’t come out very often although once the little ones are closed in their night time room she will deign to make an appearance.

    She isn’t eating very well but in the middle of last night she was eating like a trooper. So we are not too worried. Yet.

    Off to check the auctions. When are they ending again? I have to teach a class this afternoon.

    At this point Basil seems content to merely stalk and stare – usually with Cubby crunched up in a corner. We are trying to correct Basil with kindness, picking him up and removing him from the situation, or distracting him when we see stalk mode starting.

    Hobbit – when you have snow in Anchorage, does that usually mean the same amount in the Willow area?

    Barb – are you painting the pine table top, or leaving exposed wood grain?

    I looked up 1400 and that is a below average test score for the SAT’s. I had no idea what a good score was. Now I see that Spence was saying that Frenchie was not so very smart at all if even his ‘smarter’ brother only got a 1400.

    T & G’s Mama, My original plan was to leave the top stained wood and paint the legs. However, I have an occasional table and a coffee table that both have painted legs and a wood top. They are in the adjoining room. I think it would be redundant to do the dining table the same way, so it will all be painted black. Also, it is one of those inexpensive tables that is constructed with wood strips on the top, and I think those would show up if stained, but not painted.

    I am making a big pot of turkey vegetable barley soup. Sounds good to this sickie, and especially so on this dark, damp day. The Jewel had leftover Butterball precooked turkeys for .99 per lb, originally $2.59, so I picked up a 10+lb. bird yesterday.

    For Golinka’s brother — a final tribute (with thanks to Frank Sinatra):

    And now, the end is near;
    And so I face the final curtain.
    My friend, I’ll say it clear,
    I’ll state my case, of which I’m certain.

    I’ve lived a life that’s full.
    I’ve traveled each and ev’ry highway;
    And more, much more than this,
    I did it my way.

    Regrets, I’ve had a few;
    But then again, too few to mention.
    I did what I had to do
    And saw it through without exemption.

    I planned each charted course;
    Each careful step along the byway,
    And more, much more than this,
    I did it my way.

    Yes, there were times, I’m sure you knew
    When I bit off more than I could chew.
    But through it all, when there was doubt,
    I ate it up and spit it out.
    I faced it all and I stood tall;
    And did it my way.

    I’ve loved, I’ve laughed and cried.
    I’ve had my fill; my share of losing.
    And now, as tears subside,
    I find it all so amusing.

    To think I did all that;
    And may I say – not in a shy way,
    “Oh no, oh no not me,
    I did it my way”.

    For what is a man, what has he got?
    If not himself, then he has naught.
    To say the things he truly feels;
    And not the words of one who kneels.
    The record shows I took the blows –
    And did it my way!

    Yes, it was my way.

    Staff: I don’t know how old Frenchie is but at some point the SAT test and scoring changed significantly. The high score I got when I took them would now be considered poor.

    Rio: I wish I knew someone who was born in 1940 and I’d bid on the coin set. It could be a gift to the person born in 1940 or to a grandchild of a person born in 1940.

    Off to paint today so I may be outbid in the final moments of the auction. So be it.

    I can’t figure out why my radio alarm didn’t go off today–I overslept by an hour. I checked everything and it should have gone off like it does every morning.

Mom’s sister got the cute dog/ home plaque. Mom was bidding pretty hard on the arc but backed out of that when some of the other items got up there. She also had to stop bidding on the duck basket.

    I’m back from another day of moving. This for three days was all the stuff that the movers don’t take. I was fortunate because family was home and we didn’t have a workday to contend with. Sam’s boy was here and Sam’s girl was home from college. They were great! Today Loulou went to Sam’s house for a sleepover. Tomorrow the movers come. Then in the afternoon I pick up Loulou and bring her to her new home. It will have all the furniture and everything she was used to, her toys will be there, her bed and her food dishes.

    MPM, Best of luck with the move. Loulou should do fine when she arrives, with all of the furniture and other stuff she is used to.

    We love hearing what everyone was bidding on and what everybody won,

    It’s dark because the lamps are packed too. I do have light coming from the kitchen area and that’s it.

    I don’t know who “you know who” stands for.

    Sadie didn’t want to be with me painting so retired to the car for 2 hours until I drove her home. I will go back tonight. Not ideal but it can’t be helped.

    Got another person coming to look at a kitten (my favorite one. The one I would have kept if I hadn’t come to my senses). {{{sigh}}}

    C Hobbit, If you are talking about my you know who, or Teddy’s, it refers to Teddy’s husky friend.

    MPM the picture of your new home made me laugh. Of course that could be the old home with the stuff waiting for the movers but that would make me laugh too. It was the ‘when you are settled’ part that was funny.

    I can’t believe I was stiffed on everything on the auction. Grump. My class lasted until 4 and although I thought I had a good chance on one item it was not to be. Well, I guess I will just have to use that money for booties because the bootie fund is stalled. sigh. Oh well. Almost 1900 dollars in the auction and the boutique is to come. I can understand why there are no bootie bids lately.

    So it was Teddy and Wookies Dad and Mom who were bidding on the Black Howling Husky. I wondered since Nikki is busy with other more important things right now. I sure hope those ‘things’ are turning hopeful for Siber-H’s family.

    Staff, Are you saying you don’t think MPM is totally settled yet?
    BTW. we saw in Green Prints that you were the winner of a prize for finding a typo. Way to go!

    We are saying good night. Hoping to feel better tomorrow.

    Zeta….of course. I am brain dead right now. Going back to paint again for 3+ hours. I am painting an empty office suite that my nephew manages (it is part of a family business). The original scheme wasn’t going to work so I’ve had to come up with a new plan. I’ve been working in the building by myself all day but now that it is late and dark, I am not liking this.

    See you in the morning. Go Snowhook.

    As usual, I didn’t get anything in the auction that I wanted. That Damn Pixie says it is because I’m not allowed to bid. Grump!

    CHobbit!…Please don’t stay in the lonely building…sniff!…Put yer paint brushes away and drive home. I’m sure Sadie is wondering where you are and where her extra snacks are gonna come from…snorkel!

    Bellie!…Did you clean Auction Central like you were supposed to?…sniff!…I do not see any slurpy pug-kisses in your future little Missy!…grunt!…Not while Luna is looking anyways…yeeep!

    Rio: waiting for paint to dry so I can do a second coat. Hope to be gone in an hour. There are security lights where I am parked so it is not dark outside. Tired. I got more calls about kitten adoptions…
