Chetspeak on Sunday

“Drop it,” Bernie said.

The dude wasn’t nearly as big as the other guy, had a face that reminded me of Prof at Valley College back home, our go-to buddy when it comes to tracking money that perps don’t want tracked. Prof was a smart man and had smart eyes. This dude was sort of like that, but younger, thinner, and maybe a little darker. He dropped the gun.

“Cleotis?” Bernie said.

The dude nodded.

Bernie lowered the shotgun. His eyes went back to normal. “What’s with you drug dealers?” he said. “Why does there always have to be this drama?”

“We’re all prisoners of one culture or another,” Cleotis said.

Being “prisoners of one culture or another” is a very existential statement…and probably true. Pondering.

    Good morning Chet and all.

    Greetings!

HRH, B: I like that line *prisoners of one culture or another” too.

Today’s GOOGLE Doodle celebrates the 25th Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. When I worked at Warner Bros., all the employees received a paperweight with a piece of the wall encased inside. I must go on a hunt through all my stuff to find it. It truly is one of the best gifts I have ever received.

Happy Egg Day and a good day to all!

    Good morning all.

Hooray for Chetspeak, egg day and weather conditions that are not conducive to a walk up a mountain. We will go for a walk on flatland.

    I am probably a prisoner…but of what, exactly…pondering…

Yay! I’m off to help set up a fundraiser for the local Animal (sic) Assistance League, then split at Noon to open the library and stick around until closing. I’m sooo relieved that I can breathe through my nose today.
Hmm…Cleotis’ remark gives a different spin to the term “ethnocentric”–I may use that in class. For now, I’m off, wishing you ALL the happiest of Egg Days.

Hi Rose. Today’s Google Doodle is fascinating. I didn’t realize that segments of the Berlin Wall had been distributed around the world.

Rio: I watched the first episode of Gilmore Girls and really like it. I think that today is its final day On Demand and I hope I have time to watch the remaining four episodes. Did the latest episode of How To Get Away With Murder make any sense?

Happy Egg Day! Existential? Does that mean we exist? If so, then we agree!
    Dawson, is it slippery there?
We went for a hike yesterday. It was all up hill the first half, so we dragged the ‘rents up. The second half was steep downhills, so we dragged the, slip-sliding away, all the way down. What fun!
Edgar is a great FOD. He looks like he knows this is his role.

Wose–There’s a chunk of the Berlin Wall in the employee eating area at Microsoft in WA. I touched it and was thrilled, but having a piece for keeps is really cool…
There are several sections of the Wall in the US–find them by Googling Berlin Wall and US…
Does anyone other than me remember when the Wall went up?

Diane, I remember when the Wall went up.

    Edgar is a gorgeous FOD.

Tomorrow it looks like we will receive not just six inches, but probably 12 inches of snow. I guess we are all prisoners, willing or not, of something. Tomorrow it will be the weather for me.

Good morning All. Have a wonderful Chetspeak and egg and safe day.

Howlers: “Existential” (the philosophy of Sartre is called Existentialism) basically means that existence precedes essence. In other words, we are born a blank tablet and we take on character flaws and strengths based on our experiences (existence) in the world. Another philosophy that grew out of Existentialism is Absurdism (one of the best “absurdist” novels is The Stranger by Albert Camus) which basically states that we live in an indifferent world and that we make choices based on free will and that we are responsible for those choices.

    I’ll stop now.

Good morning all and Happy Sunday. No eggs here, just toast with honey.

Kim emailed and said the hens accepted Peaches and they all roosted together. I wonder if they remember her?

Rose, that is a really cool memento. You should get it out and display it.

We have a couple more yard cleanup things to do before the rain starts later today. I think we are supposed to get snow on Tuesday. Today it will get to almost 50 degrees.

  13. B.Stover
    10:43 am on November 9th, 2014

Of course, being “prisoners of one culture or another” seems to suggest that we don’t have free will.

One of my favorite lines from The Stranger: “And for the first time, the first, I opened my heart to the tender indifference of the universe.” I’ve always wondered how indifference can be tender.

The discussion of Existentialism and Absurdism is more timely than any of you can imagine as we deal with my brother’s end of life. Guess I should mention that we cleaned out his apartment yesterday – the place that I have never set foot in in 20 years.

We weren’t sure who’s dawn we wanted to begin distracting, our dawn or Rio’s dawn. We decided to be safe than sorry. Blurring to Rio’s house at the Storyteller’s dawn was a great distraction for all involved. We now know how Spence felt when Rio’s Friend wagged her finger at him. The more we wagged our tails, the more Friend wagged her finger.

Does anyone here read any Sandra Brown? We are reading Low Pressure, which was purchased from the library for .50. It has a little bit too much graphic physical content for our liking, but the mystery part is good. Thru 430 pages out of 500 and still don’t know who dunit.

We have had lots of fun at the Truck Stop but now it is time to get back on the Bootie Road
We have 100 dollars that are available to be matched and I certainly do not want them to be wasted. Right now we are at 845.00 bootie dollars promised. That is over half way and if we get that 100 dollars matched we will be 2/3rds of the way to a match.
Also, somewhere on the road to matching that 100 dollars we will give out the next prize from Golinka! I will put that picture in the next post.

I wonder if we have any loose change shaking around there in someones treaty fund. If so I know where it would do some good.

    How to donate to Snowhook

On the Chetthedog blog…To donate to checkpoints, you notify Dawson at snowhookcheckpoints at gmail.com

To donate to the Shake your bootie campaign you notify Staff at snowhookshakeyourbootie at gmail.com

When you donate, first you let Dawson or Staff know your donation amount so we can note it on our tally sheets. Then we will know when we reach our goals. Next you send the money directly to Snowhook, by check or paypal.

    Donations should be sent to:
    Justin & Rebecca Savidis
    P.O. Box 1179
    Willow, Alaska 99688

More information about Snowhook can be found at their blog:

Rio: cookies look delish. I will be ordering for sure (maybe multiples).

Anchorage missed most of the Bering Sea storm but a wind came through last night and blew more leaves off my one tree that had not yet shed its leaves. This is good because I want to rake them up before the snow flies (which is also overdue).

Tupper’s Mama: It should be whom. Switch the sentence around and use “him” as a test: “You know him from college.” You wouldn’t say you know he from college. (Whom and him are both in the objective case–objects of the sentence and “you” is the subject in your sentence. “He” is subjective case–subject of the sentence.) The easiest thing to do when one isn’t sure is to change the sentence completely: “You know John Smith from college. He…..”

Mom is as mad asa a wet hen (sorry Fern and Peaches). Blondie found a weak spot in the fence and went under it. Peeps didn’t know until the neighbor called. Found the lil idiot standing in the road barking at cars. Got her home so she could show the peeps where the breech was, and she did, just the DDD didn’t catch her in time so mom spent an hour driving through the 63 acre gully and neighborhood looking and calling. Blondie wandered back by the housse with her tongue dreagging on the ground. Mom grabbed her and incarcerated her. The peeps repaired the fence then let the miscreant out. Sure enough, she ran to the break but was thwarted. Success! Now time for a nap.
