Chetspeak on Sunday
Is there such a thing as being too brilliant? That’s the story of the Hawaiian pants. Bernie’s a big fan of Hawaiian shirts, the one he was wearing at the moment – with a pattern of hula-dancing mules – not one of my favorites. And this was in the early days with Bernie, before I’d even met a mule, namely Rummy, about whom more some other time, or never. Where I’m going with this is … is … right! The Hawaiian pants! One night, after a bourbon or two – or maybe more, but I don’t go past two, the perfect number to my way of thinking – Bernie suddenly slammed his hand down on the table real hard and said, “Hawaiian pants! We’re rich!” At which point I’d taken off, running all over the house, darting into and out of every room, meaning the kitchen, Bernie’s bedroom, Charlie’s bedroom, the office, the front hall, the living room, not necessarily in that order – or any order! Who needs order? Especially when Bernie’s on top of the world. If Bernie’s on top of the world, I’m on top of the world. And when he’s not I still am! Or close. So round and round and round I flew, zigging and zagging, claws digging in deep, leaning into the turns so sharply that I almost –
“CHET!”
– from TAIL OF VENGEANCE, the most recent C&B e-short story (you don’t need a Kindle to read it – there are many ways).
No uploading yet to the Friends gallery.

Good morning, everyone! Except for the bourbon, that’s what we’ve been doing this morning. Yummy breakfast of kibble, yogurt and egg 🙂 48*F outside and sunny for a change, we are tip top and living the good life, amigos.
Saw a facebookie post of Emily Dickenson, one lucky dog!
Have a smooth-sailing Sunday (even if no water is involved).
9:10 am on October 19th, 2014
Greetings!
Under the quilt, as I am not feeling tip-top. I am also sad. But that is a story for another time.
My friend Fran did not have an opportunity to tape “Who Wants to be a Millionaire.” Taping ran over. So, she had a scenic (hopefully) drive into Connecticut, and breakfast with friends.
Certain packages will be slowly winging there way out from my neck of the woods beginning this week.
Happy Egg Day and enjoy the day!

Good morning and Happy Egg Day/Sunday!
Rose, I hope you are soon feeling tip top.
Beautiful and sunny here, but we had a heavy frost last night. Should have a little warm up this week and back to mid 60s by next weekend.
We saw Emily D. yesterday on Chet’s FB. Must have been at the parade. She was a very cute dog!
9:55 am on October 19th, 2014
I love it when Bernie has to say, “CHET!”
Good morning all.
10:03 am on October 19th, 2014
Good morning. Happy. Sunday, and Happy. Chetspeak, but alas! No Egg Day for us us us. Those #*%# hens are not producing.
We are wondering if Bernie says CHET! In the same tone of voice as the ‘rents say ZEUS! Heh!
It is super windy and very cold here. Meashka is happy.
10:04 am on October 19th, 2014
Groan. What is with those extra periods that keep showing up in our posts?
10:37 am on October 19th, 2014
Heh. O’Howlers, Didn’t notice until youse pointed them out.
Smooth-Sail’n Sunday? That’s the way to roll!
Good Morning Everyone.
10:45 am on October 19th, 2014
I love Chet.
Good morning all.
11:11 am on October 19th, 2014
We love it when Bernie says “Che -ettt?” When it kind of goes up in a question at the end. We forget the first book we saw that in, but it made us laugh out loud.
Morning(almost afternoon) everyone.
11:16 am on October 19th, 2014
Dear Rose, we are hoping your body adjusts to the new meds soon. We all want you to be happy. Stay warm under the quilt.
Going to check if there is anything happening at bootie headquarters. Back soon.

Staff: Our question too.

There are still 148 bootie bucks available for matching. AND by the time they are all matched there will be two more winners of beautiful prizes from Amalia.
The next prize in line is the fabulous necklace of Chet (the one white eared detective and dog) on it.

Well, wasn’t I getting all snippy because I donated, sent mail, and got no acknowledgement. However, one must send mail to
snowhookshakeyourbootie, not just shakeyourbootie! Someone, somewhere, is shaking his or her head wondering just what this donation was for! Anyway, I donated at the snowhook website, so I know that the money arrived where it needed to!
So remember!! Read the directions!
12:44 pm on October 19th, 2014
Martha!
I am sorry you were feeling snippy. snicker.
And if you want your donation to count towards the bootie prizes please let me know the amount.

1:06 pm on October 19th, 2014
Happy Chetspeak Day Everyone!
Wose, I hope you feel better soon. Take care of yourself.
Staff, Thank you for your reminders about how to donate to Snowhook. Please keep up the good work.
1:39 pm on October 19th, 2014
Time Out to Watch the Game! Beau, Will you join me?
2:32 pm on October 19th, 2014
Rio, et al: All matching funds for Checkpoints are used up.
Staff & ACattyLibrarian: Thanks to ACatty for letting us know that the directions for donating to Snowhook Kennels were less than clear. And to Staff for posting clear(er) directions for donating. Snowhook is trying a new way of collecting and tracking donations and feedback is welcomed.
Martha: Did you receive my acknowledgement of your donation to Melanie’s checkpoint at the beginning of October? I hope so. We do appreciate your donations and your feed back.
There have been only two new contributors to checkpoints this year (Martha and Trisha) and I think that confusion on how to donate is part of the reason.
3:51 pm on October 19th, 2014
The Chet necklace is lovely.
3:59 pm on October 19th, 2014
Beau? Are You There?
4:43 pm on October 19th, 2014

4:45 pm on October 19th, 2014
Poirot!….Thirteen At Dinner. For the life of me I cannot remember who did it…grunt!…I have read this book several times a long time ago. This is what we are watching before my friend makes supper tonight. OOooooooo it is going to be good!…snorkel!
5:01 pm on October 19th, 2014
Poirot! I love Agatha Christie!
5:08 pm on October 19th, 2014
You and us, too, BSD 🙂 Oops, need to guard the kitchen, meatloaf in the works. Maybe some will hit the floor 🙂
5:14 pm on October 19th, 2014
HOunds: Yowzer! I’m there!
5:16 pm on October 19th, 2014
HoHo!…Do you put Hatch hot-as-hell green chilis in your meatloaf like my friend does?….wheeze!cough!
5:20 pm on October 19th, 2014
BSD, come on by, made.
Rio, no hatch chilis but use an east coast spice (Old Bay) Which is a bit spicy. Developed for clam bakes etc.
5:26 pm on October 19th, 2014
Rose, hope you are feeling better soon. My medications aren’t quite up to the job either! Stay quilted. Love Zoe
5:31 pm on October 19th, 2014
We had a wonderful Fall hike today. After we got home, we were ready to zonk lut, but what do you know? Mom invited a little girl here just for us us us!! We got lots of love, and then we showed her all around our farm. She didn’t want to leave, but she said she will come back soon. The three of us are arguing over whick one of us is her favorite.
The last of the bell peppers have been harvested. All beds were raked and manure was applied, both horse and chickie. Lastly, leaves were gathered and put on top of those beds. That’s the end of that for the year. But we got so many peppers, we will be having Mom’s favorite meal of Italian sausage, peppers, and onions all winter long!
5:51 pm on October 19th, 2014
We are so sorry for all of our typos on our iPaw. We told Mom we need a real keyboard.
5:56 pm on October 19th, 2014
OH, we have a folio keyboard on our ipaw but large paws still hit 2 or 3 keys. Also, do y ‘all ever stuff those green peppers? WE put a plant in a pot this year and got 2 bell peppers.
6:16 pm on October 19th, 2014
We don’t like stuffed peppers nearly as much as the sautéed peppers and onions with our great Italian (spicy) sausage. It is the go-to meal of late. Unfortunately, this last batch of peppers are all green, but we have frozen red and orange ones that we harvested during the season.
We are also having couscous tonight.
6:21 pm on October 19th, 2014
Suppper!…In the oven. Mother protecting and watching…chorkel!…Not really – the timer is set and my friend and I will be up there in a flash to check on it. Beau is still sleeping in front of the front door…grunt! …That guy.
6:24 pm on October 19th, 2014
6:47 pm on October 19th, 2014
O’Howlers: Heh, heh. It took me a minute.
Beau! Wake Up! the Game!
6:55 pm on October 19th, 2014
All that dinner talk is making me hungry. Barb went to a football game for Lyla’s school because she cheers. It was fun. Then we made Sloppy Joes for lunch.
Now we have a chicken roasting in the oven. Nothing fancy – just a baked sweet potato and a small salad.
Rio’s meatloaf sounds good, not so sure how Old Bay seasoning goes with a meatloaf. We have used it with shrimp but that is all. Our meatloaf is the traditional – onion, bread crumbs, egg, salt and pepper added to ground meat, with catsup & brown sugar on top. Sometimes we add a little green pepper and diced fresh tomatoes.
6:58 pm on October 19th, 2014
Burp! Thanks to those who blurred by to help with the meatloaf. It was delish! Just enough left for 2 sandwiches and puppy tastes tomorrow 🙂
Mom likes Couscous, so easy to fix.
7:00 pm on October 19th, 2014
It took me even longer, but I get it.
7:01 pm on October 19th, 2014
B&M&L, mom doesn’t eat mammal so she uses ground poutry (sorry Fern) and the Old Bay works well with it. Also a touch of horseradish sauce but other wise, similar.
7:02 pm on October 19th, 2014
OH, we hope no one else gets it but we “got it”.
7:20 pm on October 19th, 2014
I won’t get it but I got it….snicker
7:21 pm on October 19th, 2014
Staff and Siber-H: Thank you for your concern.
Zoe: Thank you for thinking of me. It is terrible to take medications that really don’t seem to work. Bi hugs and love to you, my friend.
7:27 pm on October 19th, 2014
A pot roast with noodles was on the menu tonight. It is the only meal that I make that I truly enjoy eating. It is a nice cold weather comfort food. Enough for leftovers tomorrow.
RIO! I am wondering if you have seen your friend Pepper lately. I always look at the picture of you, Beau, and Pepper before I snuggle under the Rose quilt. That is my favorite picture of youse. And speaking of that picture, would you mind SDDing that picture to me if you can? I know I have asked for it before, but I had it on my computer at my old job (the flying tissue box one), and since my departure was so hasty, I could not clear my personal pictures from it.
8:03 pm on October 19th, 2014
We had a nice roast beef today too. And we got some of the green beans and taters. Come to think of it – we got a LOT more green beans than beef…..hey, wait a minute…..
Anyway, Mama has been at her work table today. She said something about an upcoming auction, and mercantile. And there was also something about snowflake earrings. That’s the problem with short legs – we can’t see much over the table.
But we know she has some plans for tempting Plunderers and Lurkers alike.
8:23 pm on October 19th, 2014
Tupper&Gilly: Sounds like Wonderful Things are being created!
Wose: Wish I could help. All I can do is sent Big Bear Hugs.
8:31 pm on October 19th, 2014
OK we have had another donation to the bootie fund and it was matched making our bootie bucks 749!!!!!!
We are soooo close to the next (Chet the Dog necklace) prize from wonderful Golinka! We also have 123 bootie bucks left to be matched by someone’s donation. WHHOOOOOoHOOOOOOOOOooo

GO SNOWHOOK!

T and G: Ah, snowflake earrings!
We had roast beef, carrots, and mashed taters here, too.

8:38 pm on October 19th, 2014
Pretzels! Billy’sBuddy slaving over a hot stove on a Sunday. We are Grateful.
8:52 pm on October 19th, 2014
BSD: Have to be honest. No hot stove was involved!
9:10 pm on October 19th, 2014
Pretzels!…Were Involved!…Yeeeep!…This is good news!…snort!
9:15 pm on October 19th, 2014

9:19 pm on October 19th, 2014
Or was it yeeeep? I think it is time for bed.
9:33 pm on October 19th, 2014
Mom just finished John Straley’s “Cold Storage, Alaskla”. She thinks she enjoued it overall but what a rollercoaster of emotions. She will try ine more to see if she fascinated or repulsed.
We’ve been barking at deer (well, Darah sort of HONKS) and they honk back. Don’t know why the peeps are upset, we’re just talking to the neighbors! Nighty night.
9:47 pm on October 19th, 2014
A. Catty’s been in and out all day. She’s pooped now, but almost has the plot at the community garden put to bed for the winter. She wanted to get that done before Dawson comes to visit.
Hope all under the quilt have sweet dreams and wake up feeling better tomorrow.

Football!…Beau gets to watch the rest of tonight’s game because once the World Series starts he is SOL…grunt!
10:21 pm on October 19th, 2014
Beau, we here are all watching your Broncos, don’t know why, just background noise I guess, but they are are doing quite well. Peyton set a record. You should really demand your own TV so you can watch what you want. Whoa!! Another TD woo hoo. 28 -10 (sorry Wolfie)
10:23 pm on October 19th, 2014
I know, I know…refresh, read, post. At least Beau is getting to watch the game.
10:23 pm on October 19th, 2014
Dawson!…When you get a chance can you give me a run down on exactly what is left to sponsor Checkpoint-wise….sniff!..How many checkpoints and how many $$’s is still needed?…grunt!
10:25 pm on October 19th, 2014
Beau!…This is the most wide-awake he has been all day….heh!heh!
10:30 pm on October 19th, 2014
I have to admit to sort of wanting the Giants to win. I like that team. But I won’t mind too much if Kansas City wins. They have been playing well also.
We spent much of the day outside also. We had to do a little shoring up and filling in around the foundation. Woodchucks have been digging, and they are very good at digging. I wonder if Siber-H would protect our foundation from Woodchucks or if he would just join in?
MrStaff says I have complained about his poor dishwashing too many times and it is now my job to wash the pots and pans. Grump.
I have to learn to keep my mouth shut but the bottoms of the pans were all greasy and then the stove top would get greasy and then it would burn on. double grump. I even cleaned the oven today too. It is sure nice to look in there and not see the black ugly dirty stuff anymore.
Housekeeping is not high on my priority list. I only mind when we have visitors.
10:32 pm on October 19th, 2014
Wose–I hope you had a restorative day under the quilt and will be feeling tip-top soon.
Martha–Thank you for mentioning. I sent some bootie money last time around and was never acknowledged, which was disheartening. this year, directions will be followed.
Nice to see Beau back with us too…
I ate sensibly all day today. Cooked carrots as an antipasto seem to help with that–not sure why, but I’ll take it.
I have to review an Exam and send it to be printed, then get ready for tomorrow’s commute, so I’ll wish everyone a pleasant evening.
10:56 pm on October 19th, 2014
Goodnight, Diane & All.
10:59 pm on October 19th, 2014
Pleasant!…It is not pleasant around here what with Beau kicking around whooping and farting it up because his team is rolling over the 49’ers…grunt!…I do not want the Giants to win another World Series, although I guess if they do they will deserve it….snort!…But come on. I would LOVE to see a team who has not even been in the Series since the 80’s to have a chance at glory…chuffle!
11:24 pm on October 19th, 2014
Staff, I have never seen a woodchuck. I don’t know what they are but they sure sound like fun. I could eliminate the woodchucks for you and then do the digging the right way…the Siber way. I am very experienced in digging around foundations…just ask my mom.
Night All
11:27 pm on October 19th, 2014
It will be a good Series. I like the Giants but I like underdogs too and since the Royals haven’t won in years and years it would be nice to see them win. I’ll root for both teams.
I will update checkpoints tomorrow, though nothing has changed.
3:18 pm on October 21st, 2014
Just finished reading Tail of Vengeance and The Iggy Chronicles. (I had already read A Cat was Involved)
Got my first smartphone (iPhone 5s) last month and am still learning how to use it. Took the opportunity to read the ebooks I had already purchased in anticipation.
Love them both.
Want MORE!.
