Chetspeak on Sunday
“ … speaking of high school, my very first piece on the high school paper,” Suzie was saying, “an exposé of janitorial salaries that made the principal – Chet? What are you doing?”
What was I doing?
“Not digging at the seat, by any chance?”
Digging at the seat? Me? Of course not. My front paw was poised like this because … just because. Up ahead, the car with the cat in back swung onto an exit ramp and disappeared from view. My paw came down and rested comfortably on the seat, a seat that felt slightly rougher than before, hardly at all, not worth a second thought.
“Good boy,” Suzie said.
That was me! I gave the side of her face a nice big lick. She laughed. “Stop it – we’ll have an accident.” So I stopped, and if not then, at least not too long after. Suzie was the best! When I was with her I didn’t even miss … uh-oh, but I did. I did miss Bernie, just a bit. Then more and more. I curled up on the seat and thought about him, all nice thoughts.

Good morning, everyone! Wowser, Chetspeak, Egg Day, a not so sunny Sunday here. We are tip top. Hope Sage is feeling better and Tenzing didn’t chase him around under the quilt too much. Looking forward to hearing from those mostly absent yeaterday. (Y’all know who you are, don’t make mom take roll.)
Have a superlative Sunday!

I like the helpful information you provide in your articles.
I’ll bookmark your blog and check again here frequently.
I’m quite sure I will learn plenty of new stuff right here!
Good luck for the next!

Greetings!
Happy Egg Day!
I just love the little excerpt of Chetspeak.
Zoe, it was nice to hear from you on the blog. Don’t be a stranger.
Hoping that Sage is feeling tip-top today.
BTW- Sage is not the only kat with a sweet tooth. My kat Kelly, loved ice-cream, yogurt, chocolate milk, and chocolate pudding. The kat never falls too far from its human. 🙂
Bluecat: Saw your SDD last night, and responded. And to you and your mom, I say thank you!
Today, Grizz, two good friends, and I will be going to the cinema to see the restored 75th anniversary version of GONE WITH THE WIND.
Hope all those under the quilt are feeling better. You too, DDD!

Good morning Chet and all.
8:56 am on September 28th, 2014
Being the suspicious and cynical person that I am, just wondering about that post above mine. And that you tube post a day or two ago……..
9:17 am on September 28th, 2014
If it looks suspicious, and reads suspicious, think like Rio. Treat it suspiciously until you find out otherwise 🙂 Better to be embarrassed and apologize than to get taken for an unwanted r i d e.
9:18 am on September 28th, 2014
And speaking of Egg Day, OH, how much longer till y’all are back in Egg City?
9:24 am on September 28th, 2014
Rio, I also now have Completely Beside on my Kindle. Please, please don’t give any Spoiler Alerts.
10:08 am on September 28th, 2014
Good morning, all.
OK – we will fall for it – where is Egg City?
We think Sage is doing better. He is sleeping a lot – but then again, when don’t Kats sleep a lot? But he feels cooler, and his breathing looks normal. He still isn’t chasing Basil or us, or carousing with one of his catnip mousies, so he isn’t back to full normal yet. Just have to see what happens and wait for the lab work.
10:16 am on September 28th, 2014
T&G, don’t bite. Just wondering when the OH can eat the eggs that the flock gives them. After all their bumble foot meds, they were told not to eat the eggs for a while. (Egg City, like Fat City, maybe?)
10:17 am on September 28th, 2014
Good to hear that Sage is a bit better. Our paws and tails are still crossed, which makes it hard to run through the yard.
10:21 am on September 28th, 2014
Hang in there Sage…I know you can do it!
11:14 am on September 28th, 2014
I just got back from breakfast with my brother and friends. I had Eggs Benedict. Yum!
They went to the Tigers game. I may have already said this but if the Tigers win the game they will be in the division playoffs. They all wore Tigers shirts and I kept rolling my eyes when they talked baseball. (I did say that I hope they win.)
Glad Sage is better.
11:17 am on September 28th, 2014
Good news for Sage, but keep at it little guy. Strong puppy and mom and dad prayers for your speedy recovery from here in Chevy Chase. Even Ms. Zeta sends her best.
11:28 am on September 28th, 2014
Teddy! Your team is going to the playoffs? Yay! I hope the Nats will reschedule a dog day in the stadium!
11:39 am on September 28th, 2014
Bee – our last day at the beach, we went to a breakfast restaurant we hadn’t tried before. Took one look at the menu and know I was in love. They had Eggs Benedict in many different ways.
I had mine over fresh crab cakes – oh…my…dawg….
I wanted to stay at the beach for another week just to try all their other versions

MollysMaw!…No spoilers will cross my paws on this blog never fear…snuffle!…That story was on my friends mind all night long and this morning when she woke up…wheeze!
11:45 am on September 28th, 2014
Book!…We have now officially started reading the book she bought in Alaska written by Dana Stabenow…snort!…Dana lives in Alaska and has a series about a private eye named Kate Shugak….wheeze!…Her novels are filled with facts about Alaska and really good mysteries…chuffle!
11:50 am on September 28th, 2014
Happy Chetspeak Day Everyone!
Stover is talking baseball!! (sort of)
Her brother might be surprised that she has friends that are baseball fans.
Rio, The Snakes fired their manager.
Sage, Please keep getting better. We are all thinking of you.
11:54 am on September 28th, 2014
SiberH!..gah!..I hope the Rockies don’t hire him…sneeze!
12:00 pm on September 28th, 2014
Rio – we have read a lot of the Stabenow books – we stopped after one particularly gruesome one. They are good mysteries, and there are a lot of great Alaska vignettes. Probably even more so for those of you who have been to the state.
But talk about having 9 lives….Kate Shugak must have at least TWENTY 9.
12:02 pm on September 28th, 2014
Siber-H: My brother knows about the blog and he reads the C & B mysteries. He also has a copy of the Dishlickers Cookbook.
Tupper’s Mama: They also had salmon Eggs Benedict. With crab cakes would be delish!
12:24 pm on September 28th, 2014
Mom’s ipad wouldn’t charge, which was quite traumatic. Thanks to the apple care plan, she now has a brand spanking new ipad.
Still trying to get caught up on this here blog!

Wolfie – good to hear from you! Is the fire danger over for you?
1:47 pm on September 28th, 2014
Tupper’s Mama, the fire danger is never over in California, it is just to greater and lesser degrees 🙁
1:49 pm on September 28th, 2014
Gah! Those Marauding Goats have stolen Wolfie’s avatar, whatever shall we do?
1:50 pm on September 28th, 2014

1:53 pm on September 28th, 2014
Good afternoon all. Busy, busy here, but stopping by to say hey.
We are reading a new book by Fannie Flagg. She wrote Fried Green Tomatoes, among others. Has anyone else read her books?
Nice to hear from you Wolfie. Wondering about Boobears’s mama too.
Glad Sage is improving. Did this just come on suddenly? Could he have eaten something that was bad for kitties?
2:02 pm on September 28th, 2014
Love Paw and Order Chetspeak!
Tupper’s Mama: Glad Sage the Mage is feeling a little better.
Egg Day! I slept way in today and woke up hungry. Haven’t eaten yet, but Eggs Benedict posts have my stomach making loud ‘feed me” noises.
2:14 pm on September 28th, 2014
DAwson, as long as it isn’t a “Feed me, Seymore” noise, you might be safe 🙂
2:18 pm on September 28th, 2014
Loulou and I just came back from a walk on the Lehigh Valley Memorial Trail. It used to be the actual train tracks many years ago, but now the train is gone. The town removed the tracks and made a .7 mile walking/bike path that goes right through town. Flowering trees are planted along the path with plaques inscribed (the memorial part).
The train station remained and one of the cars is on a small piece of track behind it.
2:38 pm on September 28th, 2014
Mollypop’s Mom: I love the red caboose. I am a fan of cabooses. I bet Loulou likes that trail!
2:56 pm on September 28th, 2014
I like the train station. That is a good photo.
3:01 pm on September 28th, 2014
Heh, heh.
I got on the soapbox and had a little rant but when I tried to post it, I got the “duplicate comment detected” message so I clicked out of Chet the Dog, then back in and there’s my rant, disappeared! Just as well.
I am going out to play in the garden, where it is mosquito free.
3:05 pm on September 28th, 2014
Yes, the fires are out. Some were caused by a teenage arsonist and the big fire was started by a deer hunter who hunted out of season and was burning the innards. Idiot.
Jace is home for good, Cody is still in rehab and life is calm for the time being.
AND I HAVE MY IPAD WORKING!!!!!
Hope Sage is okay.
3:12 pm on September 28th, 2014
YOu go Wolfie, you are so special 🙂 Jace and a working ipaw, what a Wigglebutt!
3:24 pm on September 28th, 2014
Egg Day?
Rio..Melanie and I have a whole lot of Dana Stabenow books. Very good reading!
Barb and Maggie, thanks for letting us know there is a new Fanny Flag.
Hope Sage is doing well! Martha’s son Will cam over yesterday to help me with some heavy things. He decided to really give Mac a good dog massage. Finally Mac got so happy he had to lick Will’s face thoroughly, stand up and shake, and take a walk thru the house. Mattie sleep thru it all.
3:25 pm on September 28th, 2014
Crazy dog/cat names. Someone just posted on my FB page that they can’t get their cat and dog to like each other much less sleep with each other. Their names were Dookie and PiggyMooMoo. Good Grief. I know people have the right to name their animals whatever they wish and often settle on personality traits but I don’t think I’d admit that I had named a pet PiggyMooMoo on a public web page. 🙂
3:26 pm on September 28th, 2014
Actually Mattie slept thru it all.
Fall color this year is beyond beautiful.
3:37 pm on September 28th, 2014
My Mom said that you guys would enjoy this! I haven’t met any of you yet but I am sure that you have heard a lot about me. Don’t belief all of it, I am really not THAT bad!!! I know I have some big feet to fill for Cherokee and I am trying, really I am!

3:53 pm on September 28th, 2014
Tundra, I love it! I am laughing, but it is so true.
That is a beautiful Siber.
4:06 pm on September 28th, 2014
Siber Mr.H, even though mom loves beaches and warm temps and water, she agrees with Tundra!
4:28 pm on September 28th, 2014
My brother just called. The Tigers won.
4:29 pm on September 28th, 2014
Where did Egg Day come from? The day we eat eggs.
I thought it stemmed from the day once a week that all the Newfs (back when there were 10 of them – sob) got an egg on top of their food.
But maybe it is a newer tradition having to do with the chickens on the blog.
Hi Tundra!
It’s GLAD’s birthday! Have a great birthday, Andrea!
4:39 pm on September 28th, 2014
Speaking of baseball, Nana went to a baseball game last night.
I have read about how beautiful the fall colors will be in the NE this year. We would love to see the trees turning.
Mom would like to go to a beach…fat chance of that happening.
5:12 pm on September 28th, 2014
Zoe!..Wow! I do not recall Melanie talking about Dana Stabenow but this is a great indorsement of her work…snort!

French!…No one will ever guess which movie we are watching so I will just tell youse…chuffle!…”The French Lieutenat’s Woman”…snort!….Someone here has not seen this movie in so long she does not even really remember it…heh!heh!
5:43 pm on September 28th, 2014
Hmmm….As my friend may have suspected a very long time ago the book was probably better than the movie…heh!heh!…Maybe a little under-whelming. But Meryl Streep is always a joy to watch.
5:48 pm on September 28th, 2014
Beside!…All those currently reading “We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves” and let me know where you are at in the book. Maybe what you think “in code” – do not give away anything…snorkel!…We here have spent the day trying to shake off the feelings that book left us with and that may or may not be a good thing as you will find out…sniff!…Maybe my friend needs to shake-off far more than me…grunt!…As I can only identify with being a nonhuman animal – and very proud of it…chuffle!
5:59 pm on September 28th, 2014

7:51 pm on September 28th, 2014
Stover!…You’ve been busy with company. I really didn’t expect you to be busy reading…heh!heh!…But Diane and MollysMaw have tuck into the book by now. Curious to hear what they think and where they are at innit…snort!
7:53 pm on September 28th, 2014
I agree…The blog bug is back
7:55 pm on September 28th, 2014
Rio, I have started the book and am enjoying it a lot already. This next week I won’t have as much time to read because we have a whole week forecast to be 75°! I will be out walking with Loulou as much as I can because the cold front comes on Friday night. I think I will have a lot of time to read after that.
7:58 pm on September 28th, 2014
Maybe (dog forbid) it is a new bug. Maybe that’s why Friends of Chet cannot post
8:03 pm on September 28th, 2014
Zoe, the new Fannie Flagg book is called The All-Girl Filling Station’s Last Reunion. It takes place partially in the current time and partially in the WWII days. I think you might enjoy it.
8:06 pm on September 28th, 2014
MollysMaw!…There will come a point in the book where you will not be able to put it down no matter what…heh!heh!…Obviously you are not there yet. But you will be. Mark my words…chuffle!
8:11 pm on September 28th, 2014
Say no more real. Don’t make me come over there.
8:16 pm on September 28th, 2014
When the blog bug starts, and posts wont go up, we make a point to copy any post we write. That way if we have to refresh or close and open the page, we can just hit “paste” and regain all that we have written so we can try to post again.
We think Sage is doing better. He stole Gramp’s slice of carrot cake when no one was looking.

MollysMaw!….Puuugggggpppppttt!…heh!heh!…One day you will know.

Also wondering about Karen and BooBear….

Rose!…My friend is pretty strong, but this book hit her in all her soft parts…sniff!..I cannot say too much as not to give away the story for others. I suggest you Not read it at this time. I think there are things that would really be disturbing. No actual violence per say, but the writer has a way of making you know of things and you do not need to be thinking of right now…especially now…snuffle!…Rose I suggest you Not read this book…wheeze!
10:03 pm on September 28th, 2014
Mad!…Is everyone mad at me??…sniffle!…I had all this excitement today and no one gives a dawgdamn crap about it….grunt!…Well. All very telling…sniff!
10:22 pm on September 28th, 2014
Rio, I for one am excited for you! A conversation with an author is usually a great thing. Spencer Quinn has never come to my area as far as I know, and I keep a good eye on events at bookstores, but I would drive 50 miles to see him! Traveling to Seattle to see him…..not so much. I know about their traffic up there. I did travel from Vancouver, WA to Beaverton, OR to see Craig Allen Johnson who authors the Longmire books. The books are so much better than the TV show and should you read them please read them in order as they build. It was delightful to talk to that author! Maybe Karen Joy Fowler will come to your area now! She would be delighted to meet you, I am sure!
10:24 pm on September 28th, 2014
The Cowboys are ON FIRE tonight. We are even watching them live. Usually we record the game and watch it without commercials. Mom says that in the interest of accurate reporting I must say that I am “watching” with my head under a blanket. She has the TV too loud. We had popcorn and now we are all happy.
Siber H, I keep forgetting to ask if you saw that Ron Washington quit the Rangers.
My memory is that the Howlers started Egg Day.
Hi Wolfie!
10:35 pm on September 28th, 2014
Sports!…Hmmm. Here is a live instance where a sports event is making someone who is usually dismayed in a happy mood…snort!…This is a night to be remembered in memory..heh!heh!
10:38 pm on September 28th, 2014
ALR!…Right now you are my best friend. And apparently my only true friend. I am glad you were about and watching tonight…sniff!…I feel like the lowest peg on the peddle right now within my “group”…sniff! sneeze!
10:40 pm on September 28th, 2014
Me too, Rio!
I am excited for you, too. I think it is great that you emailed her and she wrote right back!
MTMP: I think you may be right. I think I saw a picture of the Newfs eating colored eggs on Easter and mixed that up with Egg Day. Hello to your Mom!
10:48 pm on September 28th, 2014
Ahh Rio! You are my best friend right now, too! My dogs, the schnauzers Murphy and Zoe abandon me for the top of the sofa but I can always count on you, you, you! But I am but an interloper here….and YOU are the total king of meet and greet in this great group of people! And that includes humans, dogs, cats and maybe chickens for all I know. And now you have Karen Joy Fowler for a new friend forever!
11:02 pm on September 28th, 2014
Hi to you too Dawson! Can you believe it has been six months since we were all together in AK? I doesn’t seem possible, sniff.
11:03 pm on September 28th, 2014
ALR: No, you are not an interloper – you are a lurker who posts just at the right times. Your timing is impeccable and you are part of our family.
Now my eyelids are getting heavy…
11:11 pm on September 28th, 2014
ML: Half a year and a lifetime ago, sniff, you were our Alaskan guide!
11:19 pm on September 28th, 2014
Rio: We don’t know about you, but we are gearing up for Pugtober Fest! We have loosened our collars in anticipation for drinkin a lot o’ beer and eating one too many hot wings. Snort!
