Chetspeak on Sunday
“ … I didn’t listen to myself then,” Bernie was saying, “but what’s to stop me from listening now?” We were supposed to listen? I listened my hardest, heard all sorts of things: a toilet flushing, another toilet running – a problem we often had on Mesquite Road – and, yes, a toilet seat banging down on yet one more toilet. It was all toilets in this burg. Not too shabby! Then I heard a fly buzz nearby. I looked up just in time to see it run smack into that spider web and come to a sticky sort of stop. The spider started up on that leisurely leg-flexing thing.

Ha! Nobody can accuse us Members of the Nation Within of not listening! We hear all.
Rio, na na na na na. Evidently my investigative prowess is so much better than yours! :p
Golinka and Storyteller, Happy Anniversary!, albeit belatedly. These damn ‘rents left us alone all day, and again in the evening. Worst of all, they shut doors to most rooms, including the rooms where the iPaw and computer are. HRMPH
HOH maw, hope you are feeling better.
Maggie, what a beautiful family portrait you posted on yesterday’s blog. Lovely. Simply lovely.
Wolfie, thanks for checking in with two excellent pieces of news. I’m so happy for Jace, I could kiss him all over. You too. And I’m doubly glad you aren’t affected by those fires.
Is Nanasan home home home?
And most importantly, to RJ <3 , I think I may have spotted some eyebrows down here in the PA farmland. Can you travel down andjoin me to check out our fields? Those brows could be yours, or maybe Harris'. It is easiest to spot them at night, under the beautiful, romantic moon. {hint}

Oh, Kat. You forgot to say “Happy Egg Day”!
8:52 am on September 21st, 2014
Good morning O’H, Kat (what a nice long post) and everyone and HAPPY EGG DAY. I’m a bit grumpy at the moment (can’t access school software to see if someone who took a Quiz is actually enrolled) so of to meditate and face the day with more equanimity.
Be well, travel safely anyone travelling, and have a wonderful day.
9:36 am on September 21st, 2014
Good morning Chet and all.
9:43 am on September 21st, 2014
Good morning all, and Happy Egg Day. Beautiful fall day here, one of those perfect kind.
OK, since Nanasan made a sudden and short turn-around trip to China, it was obviously not for sight seeing. Our best guess is that a family member was completing an adoption and she went over to assist in some way. She should be landing about now, right?
9:49 am on September 21st, 2014
Good morning Kat and the O’Howlers, B and Diane C. I am off to pack the car. Sometimes a problem when it is full of sewing machines. Then breakfast and then a nice drive along the Mississippi north to Minneapolis.
Mr.Staff says it is sunny in NoDak so that will be nice. Storms here last night, as Billy’s Buddy knows.
9:51 am on September 21st, 2014
And Good Morning to Barb and Maggie also.
Out! I am outta here.
10:06 am on September 21st, 2014
Morning everyone.
Junior – still no eyebrows laying around at the beach. Sorry. Could you paste some clamshells up there?
Lazy morning here. Do we have bacon and eggs? Yes. Do we have a fry pan and a stove? Yes. Are we ambitios enough to use them in conjunction with breakfast? Aha! That is the question. We think it advisable to go find a place that would be willing (for a small fee) to put a cooked breakfast in front of us, and then clean up afterwards.
This IS a vacation after all.
Safe travels Staff. Feel better HOH. Stop flirting little Kat. You don’t know what those Alaskan Huskies can get up to.
10:08 am on September 21st, 2014
Good mornnng, everyone! We think mom is better, not quite tip top but maybe tip!
Today the Labradoo extrodinaire is 4. She got more eggs than anyone else here. not, Not, NOT fair. Loved the Chetspeak. We are told we HEAR everything, but don’t listen. Huh? Safe travels to all going anywhere. Think mom does feel a bit better since she noticed no one had dusted or swept this week and now she is talking about going to the library this afternoon.
Have a safe and sane Sunday.
10:16 am on September 21st, 2014
Good morning and Happy Chetspeak and Egg Day to all.
Staff: Yes, storms last night and still looking cloudy today.
B&M: Adoption! Why didn’t I think of that? Our oldest, dearest, (ONLY) grandson arrived from Ethiopia that way. What a blessing international adoptions can be. I hope that’s the cause of Nana’s trip.
10:26 am on September 21st, 2014
A baby? My Nana is getting a baby??? !!!! Woo Hoo! Did I mention that I am an excellent babysitter?
Tupper’s Maw: Girls just wanna have fun. I am very bored on this ole’ farm.
10:47 am on September 21st, 2014
sigh – How ya gonna keep em down on the farm, after they’ve seen the Chesapeake?
11:44 am on September 21st, 2014
staff–How many sewing machines can you get into one vehicle? My mother had one that was like a piece of furniture, with legs that stood on the floor and the sewing part built in and you had to sit in front of it (providing your own chair or stool) to do any sewing. I hope yours are smaller.
Tupper’s Mama–Most housework (including cooking) occurs on such a small scale that it just isn’t possible to achieve any of the gains from specialization. It makes far more sense to pay people who specialize in providing breakfast to provide yours (plus the cleanup!!!). I like the way you’re thinking about it.
HOH–Your Mom sounds well on her way to tip-top, so make sure you nurture her carefully.
I had also been thinking adoption (or a CIA mission) with Nana on such a short trip. Let’s hope all went well and we’ll be hearing about it shortly.
Has anyone on this blog ever heard of eyebrow pencil? (A real time-saver)
11:48 am on September 21st, 2014
Chetspeak is a giggle this morning.
HOH, You guys had best make your mom continue to take it easy so she will keep feeling better.
Rio, sob, The Rockies have already announced they are not going to change the Isotopes name…splort
12:09 pm on September 21st, 2014
Judging by Staff’s 9:51 she should be in Minneapolis about 12:15.
It will be good to see sister Staff again. Hi Dawson, I love You too. tmf

Boy the turtleman was right on. I am sitting across the table from him right now.
1:46 pm on September 21st, 2014
Nana and a baby? Could be. But our Nana is the adventurous type. She almost came to Alaska last February when she went to meet the O’Howlers at the Seattle airport. She was on standby and was walking to the plane when she was bumped by a ticketed passenger. Maybe she saw a good deal and hopped on it.

Staff, I think you definitely needed more sewing machines. I heard that there was a shortage at your place!
I first thought Nana had gotten a last minute good deal on a flight, but if that was the case, why would she come back so quickly and not stay for a week or so?

Sewing!…Machines out the ying-yang!…snort!
Spoiler Alert!
PawNOorder!…Just finished it!…zow!…The only thing missing was the part where Chet is alone and in danger. Spencer left that out this time. How Come? We ask…grunt!
3:13 pm on September 21st, 2014
Rio – maybe cuz we confessed to him that we never read that part….
3:14 pm on September 21st, 2014
Happy Egg Day, Chetspeak Day and YSAS’s Birthday!
I’m making an apple crisp for a potluck.
3:22 pm on September 21st, 2014
What!…Oh for pity’s sake….grump!…You think he would change his writing style because of that?…heh!…That is always the very best part….snort!
3:27 pm on September 21st, 2014
Tupper’s Mama: I was surprised to hear how many of us skipped the scary parts! Not me. I couldn’t always get through the scary parts the first time and I may’ve accidentally skipped just a little of the Iko underwater scary, not-being-able-to-breathe part, I’m not sure.
TaiChi.
I can now “hold the ball”, “part the wild horse’s mane” (although, for a while there, I was “parting the wild goose’s mane” because I mis-heard the instructor and due to just reading Chet’s newest book, wild geese were on my mind – I did wonder about geese with manes but only briefly, then the thought disappeared), and the left and right bow stance.
3:32 pm on September 21st, 2014
Staff–“…went to the toga”? what does that mean?
Rio and others–Have you noticed that Chet in PAO is suddenly referring to towns (or DC at least) as “burgs”? Apparently he latches on to new words and then uses them a lot (as the two-leggeds do, admittedly)
3:34 pm on September 21st, 2014
Dawson!–You rock! Did you enjoy it? Are you learning a long sequence?
3:49 pm on September 21st, 2014
Pop has been at work all day. Grump
He left in the wee hours, then he came home about 11. His phone rang 45 minutes later, and off he went. Double-grump
Today was supposed to be our walk-or-hike day. Instead, Mom mowed two pastures, dragged the riding ring, mucked stalls, and knocked down all the cobwebs in the barn. Still no Pop in sight.
Ever since vacation, our so-called weekends have been reduced to only one day. Triple-grump
4:36 pm on September 21st, 2014
Diane, Here we call them the “burbs”.
SPOILER BACK AT RIO – There was that one part where he took off on his own and was in danger briefly. Remember?
5:04 pm on September 21st, 2014
DianeC: I hear there are 24 sequences (if that is what they are called). Yes, I enjoy it. It allows my brain to focus, if only for a short while, and it doesn’t exacerbate my shoulder injury.
Toga. The t & o stands for treadle on, the treadler’s version of Plunder On! I forget the rest.
Staff: Nice machines, heh! Turtleman: I love you too!
Another belated Happy Losbter Anniversary to the Royal ‘rents.
5:08 pm on September 21st, 2014
How about Treadle On Girls Association?
5:21 pm on September 21st, 2014
Danger!…He was never in real danger during that part…grunt!
5:22 pm on September 21st, 2014
Dog-On-It!….Now that was a real life danger situation and written so perfectly….snort!
5:42 pm on September 21st, 2014
You are right. This was a mildly dangerous situation. Nothing like DOI (which still makes me cringe when I think about it), or the mine , or the cage in Mexico, or Iko, which had me gasping and holding my breath along with Chet.
5:46 pm on September 21st, 2014
SPOILER ALERT!
Suzie!…I can’t help thinking what would have happened had Bernie been about 1 second too late there at the end…heh!heh!…A part of me, a very bad part, would like to see that scenario played out…snuff!…But then I would feel really bad for Bernie and thank dawg he was not one second too late…gurgle!
6:12 pm on September 21st, 2014
Rio! You evil Pug!
Where’s Nana?
6:20 pm on September 21st, 2014
I read fairly quickly and by the time I see the words spoiler alert, I have already read what follows it also.I will have to hurry up and finish the book. I’m almost done.

Treadle on Gathering. That is what it is. A gathering of treadlers.
6:35 pm on September 21st, 2014
MollysMaw!….Sorry about that…snuffle!…Once you read the part I’m talking about I bet my evil thought crosses your mind too…heh!heh!

Dawson!…If I were a betting Pug, and I am, I bet she is sleeping…snort!

Schedule!…I was thinking of my friend Rose and wondering what her deli schedule is…sniff!…I’m really hungry right now and I was doing some serious pondering about her making me a really delish sandwich…chuffle!
Supper!…Luckily, my friend is cooking tonight and the menu is fresh tortellini with an awesome meat sauce which has been simmering away all afternoon…wheeze!slobber!
6:53 pm on September 21st, 2014
SiberH!…Sad day…sniff!…We are watching the LAST HOME GAME of the dawg-dern-low-life season…sob!sob!…The good news is we still have a full weeks worth of road trip baseball…ugh!…What am I saying?
6:53 pm on September 21st, 2014
Okay Rio, I have finished the book. I know just what your evil mind is thinking about.
6:58 pm on September 21st, 2014
I’ve mentioned before about having a Buffalo Bills play here living here in the hotel. The guy with the pitbull. So the Bills played their third game of the season and this guy hasn’t played yet. He’s sitting on the bench. All of this is for a four year $2.1 million contract. I should contact the bills and let them know that I’m available to suit up and sit on their bench for a lot less money. Maybe they’ll take my offer.
6:59 pm on September 21st, 2014
SWEEP!…The Rockies sweep Arizona…heh!heh!….Why are they playing like Champs at the END of the season…grunt!…Still, we here are loving it!…WOOOOOOOO!
6:59 pm on September 21st, 2014
Dawson< what does the A stand for?
7:00 pm on September 21st, 2014
RIO! Since I am merely a lowly trainees, I work days. snort. When I come home I smell like a meat and cheese sandwich. sniff. I have been thinking of you my friend…..we sell hot, and super hot wings. I can cater your next party, and keep you feed during the auction and/or mercantile shop. heh!
And good on your Rockies! wuffle!
7:11 pm on September 21st, 2014
Wosie, Sooo glad to hear from you. There are worse thing to smell like than a meat and cheese sammie.
7:15 pm on September 21st, 2014
Barb&Maggie: Gathering. By the way, you all look right fit in that picture posted yesterday.
7:17 pm on September 21st, 2014
Thank you Dawson.
We got the G, Gathering, but the next letter is A.
7:18 pm on September 21st, 2014
Rio, It doesn’t seem possible that today is the last home game of the Rockies. Too soon, too soon…sniff
I hope they continue to play well on their road trip. It would give them confidence for the next season, which can’t come too soon. Oh sob
7:35 pm on September 21st, 2014
Good to hear from you, Wose.
7:41 pm on September 21st, 2014
Rose!…Can I lick your hands and arms and your face?…wheeze!…I am still hungry!…slurp!
7:41 pm on September 21st, 2014
SiberH!…Don’t get me started…sob!sob!sob!
7:42 pm on September 21st, 2014
TOGA!…”A” probably stands for “Again”….snort!
7:44 pm on September 21st, 2014
MPM – nice work if you can get it. We would sign up for that too. We are very good at sitting on benches. We would even cheer.
Wose – we know you are in a pickle over this job, but no matter how you slice it, any job is full of baloney. But you can cut the mustard, and you can’t let the turkeys get you down. Just keep your rye sense of humor, ham it up and make these your salad days. And remember, the bread comes in handy.
Just got home from our last seafood dinner at the beach. It was wonderful. Now we are sitting on the front porch, wrapped in a thick fog, listening to the ocean whisper her endless lullaby. Ah, bliss…..
7:46 pm on September 21st, 2014
Golinka!…snort!
7:47 pm on September 21st, 2014
RIO! Yes, you may! In fact, I see you up top on the right!
Royal Mum, you are making me laugh! Happiest of Anniversaries to your lovely self, and that handsome Storyteller!
Glad to be back guys!!!
7:49 pm on September 21st, 2014
Yippee!…Rose is back, and the tortellini and meat sauce was great. Her mother did not like it, but that is a story for Never…heh!heh!
7:58 pm on September 21st, 2014
Barb&Maggie: The Ga at the end of toga is the first two letters of the word Gathering. Don’t ask me why, but if you did, I’d probably guess that a toga party sounds better than a Tog Party.
I’m off to the potluck.
8:01 pm on September 21st, 2014
Golinka, that was quite the pep talk you gave our Rose. She should remember it if she ever finds herself in a pickle. Hmm, the whole subject reminds me that I have not eaten, so it is off to the larder, or more likely the freezer, to forage.
8:05 pm on September 21st, 2014
Welcome back, Wose.
I would love to have your job.
8:11 pm on September 21st, 2014
Golinka, the ‘rents could use one of your pep talks. Their jobs s**k.
Wose! Howdy! sigh. We love it when our family is back together.
8:21 pm on September 21st, 2014
Golinka, How oh how do you do it? You are just so clever!
Dawson, Yeah, sorry but that is lame. The A has to stand for something, too. It’s only right. We still like Treadle On Gathering Associates, or Association.
9:02 pm on September 21st, 2014
Walk!…We are back from our walk…snort!…It is nice and cool and breezy out there. A good time for snuffling, staring and sneezing…snort!
9:05 pm on September 21st, 2014
Staring!…Beau is the one who stares at people. My friend is always embarrassed when he plants his paws and stares at neighbors. He cannot be budged when this happens…snort!…Tonight he stared down a lady who was getting groceries out of her trunk till she felt compelled to walk over and give him a pat or two…grunt!…Then her big-ass heavy purse fell off her shoulder and smacked him in the head…heh!heh!…That is what you get for staring pal…chuffle!
9:18 pm on September 21st, 2014
Rio, what Beau is doing is the same thing that Loulou is doing. she digs in when people are around and I have to pick her up to keep moving on. What’s up with this?
9:26 pm on September 21st, 2014
We are off to slumber land. Dawson, have fun at the potluck.
Sweet dreams all.
9:36 pm on September 21st, 2014
MollysMaw!…They are just nosy-parkers that is all…sniff!…Every tiny thing is interesting…grunt!…I just want to get the walk over with…grump!
9:50 pm on September 21st, 2014
Dogs will do what “works” for them. It wouldn’t have taken LouLou long to learn that if she refuses to move, you will pick her up.
Beau I am not so sure about unless that staring has gotten him attention and that’s what he wants.
You humans are so quickly and easily trained.
10:12 pm on September 21st, 2014
Rio – staring, getting whopped with a pocketbook…now THAT was funny.
10:40 pm on September 21st, 2014
The kitchen gave up eggs for egg salad (for tomorrow) and buttered noodles (well, plain noodles until I buttered them). Now to all you professional chef types this is nothing, but to someone who has an anxiety attack at the THOUGHT of cooking it was a big night. The dogs stared in amazement, or perhaps in hope of bites. They did get some egg and a couple of noodles, so their waiting was not in vain.
Beau…heh heh, I mean poor puppy.
10:47 pm on September 21st, 2014
ML!…heh!heh!…Me and my friend chuckled over this the whole time we walked…snort!…Doubtful any of it dawned on ole’ Beau though…sniff!
Pasta!…If my friend could get more “kitchen” time she could whip up some good pasta dishes in more time than it takes to cook pasta in Alaska, but still in a relatively short time…snort!…The kitchen is sacred ground and only when Mother is totally tired out is it a place my friend can be…sniff!
11:17 pm on September 21st, 2014
SiberH!…I do not think Beau thinks that far ahead to plan a well given “pat”…heh!heh!…I think he is just nosy and likes to see what is going on beyond his view out of the front door…sniff!…He is not an attention hog-pug by all means. I am a seriously a “leave me alone” kind of guy…grunt!…But this staring activity is starting to wear on me and my friend…grump!
11:57 pm on September 21st, 2014
Barb and Dawson,
Treadle On Gathering and Academy…we get together and teach each other about the old machines. I learned some interesting things about the spring on the tension knob this time.
And I do believe that the Singer 66 Red-eye is in a nice new home. Maybe.
Night all

Delicious sounding blog, but what hanepped to all the quilt ideas? Probably seems daunting and overwhelming I DO understand!! One request .PLEASE make a Christmas party blog a priority. Pretty Please!!!!

i don’t want to discourage juebee or mdg, but most desi muslims, unless they are ABCD (American Born Confused Desis) or come from very very liberal families with lots of mixed marriages already, will NOT even consider a fusion ceremony. that’s why i thought it was easier to do two ceremonies (which could be on the same day for cost reasons) that fully honor each person’s customs/traditions/beliefs. also, just because your desi man doesn’t regularly practice his religion here, does not mean he does not envision a future where he is more religious, or doesn’t want his family raised more conservatively (esp when they think of the possibility of having daughters). desi men are very close to their mothers and they are given a very big double standard vs girls on what they can do, and what their families look the other way’ about. but when it comes to marriage and family, they revert back to the way they were raised and suddenly want their kids going to masjid (mosque) and learning to read the Quran and not drinking or dating.
3:53 pm on April 8th, 2015
MDG, I wish the two of you the best of luck! From what I have read it also kind of seems like it was also scare for the both of you it was like hello reality check and decenfas went up or something. They always say that time apart makes the heart grow fonder. If you love something set it free and if it comes back it’s yours. 3years together is something major it’s lot of history and the two of you also know each other super well so I’m sure it will work out for the best. I do hope that you blog about your life on the open sea! I sometimes differances are what makes people in realtionships who they are and many couple tend to stick together through thick and thin and learn from them and come out stronger in the end. I’m hoping that these differances make the two of you strong as couple and that you can work throught them.
