Chetspeak on Sunday
(This is to Melanie, in memory.)
What was Bernie talking about? I had no clue. I put my paw on his knee, for no particular reason. The car shot forward.
“Hey, Chet! What the hell?”
Oops. Had I pressed down a bit too hard? I laid off.
“It’s all right, big guy. Sometimes you don’t know your own strength.”
Whoa! Don’t know my own strength? Had to be one of Bernie’s jokes. He can be a funny guy with jokes – take that time he found some pink streamers and stuck them on the handle grips of a bunch of bikes parked outside a biker bar and then waited for the bikers to come out. And that was just the beginning of the fun! But take it from me: I know my own strength.

Happy Sunday and Happy Chetspeak. We are going to have an egg this morning. Yay!
Yesterday was truly a special day. I know it was special but bittersweet for Zoe, too, honoring her husband and daughter.
So glad we were able to add our messages of love and remembrance.

Hi Barb and Maggie and Everyone–Same here. A special day.
9:16 am on July 27th, 2014
Good morning, B&M and DianeC and everyone! Oh boy! Sunday, Chetspeak and Egg Day. Life is so good 🙂 Did our mom every thank y’all or letting us be a part of this here blog family? Thanks!
Have some special kind of Sunday.

This made us think of Barb and Maggie.

9:19 am on July 27th, 2014
Good morning and Happy Egg Day. We love Chetspeak, and we can’t wait for Paw and Order.

We Howlers are all laying around here today, resting from our big day. Mom wanted us to post this photo of us at P4P. Mom had her purple shirt on, Godmom Leslie wore a purple dress, and the ‘rents both wore their “Melanie’s Race” buttons, in honor of our Friend.
9:43 am on July 27th, 2014
Greetings!
O’Howlers! What a super fantastic picture!
HOH: LOL!
Yesterday was indeed a very special day. It was my privilege to be included into this Plunderer family, and into Melanie’s. With that being said, here are my last 2 cents:

Ooops! I forgot to ask Zeusikov how he is feeling today.
9:44 am on July 27th, 2014
Zeus: We hope you’re feeling better today.
Howling pop: Patsy Ann has decided she is going to blur to Oley so she can sit on your blood pressure and keep it from rising. She is also bringing snacks.
9:55 am on July 27th, 2014
DianeC. WE see Edgar and assume you are his 2 legger. Welcome, Edgar. How is Cone-man doing today?
9:56 am on July 27th, 2014
Wose: We posted at the same time about Zeus. This must either mean you are an outlaw at heart or we are a wonderful somebody. Either way—twins!
10:03 am on July 27th, 2014
THIEVES! There is a little outlaw in me, and youse are wonderful! TRIPLETS!
10:11 am on July 27th, 2014
Great Edgar pic. Welcome to FOC, Edgar!

A Chetspeak for Melanie…No Better Way to Greet this Beautiful Sunday Morning…IMHO.
10:14 am on July 27th, 2014
I am feeling tip-top, everyone. Mom can’t tell if my swelling is down, because my snout is always the biggest snout you’ve ever seen. Heh!
All that practising for Pints paid off; I was as cool as a cucumber. Oh yes I was.
10:21 am on July 27th, 2014
HOH: Melon Collie. Lol.
Hey, Z-Man, you made it to Pints-4-Pups. Yay!
Welcome to Edgar and good morning to everyone.
Hoping to hear from Zoë today.
10:31 am on July 27th, 2014
(Lucy Lou here) My mom is SO mean. I brought a perfectly good, albeit slightly basted, frog in and was cuddling with it on the couch. What did that mean lady do? She took it from me and put it out in the sushi pond 🙁 Maybe I’ll go find my froggy friend again.
10:36 am on July 27th, 2014
The new blog background is from the Paw and Order cover. Very nice.
Good morning Chet and all.
10:44 am on July 27th, 2014
That Mellon Collie reminds me of some of my siblings. I was the only sable in my litter, all the others were tri-color like that one. That is either an English Shepherd or Aussie. Sometimes hard to tell the difference.
We had our walks already and Barb is getting ready to go up to the lake and celebrate Kelly’s 44th birthday. Also taking her notes on Secret Life of Bees to review with Baye. Baye loved the book and now wants Kelly to read it.
Lucy is having a little problem that maybe one of you guys might have some suggesting for (sorry Bee)). She has one front leg that is straight and one that is crooked, thanks to her Basset genetics. She drags the crooked leg and has now worn off part of her inside pad on her paw. It looks all jagged and thready and probably sore. Any suggestions (a booty?) to help. She LOVES her walks but the sidewalk is our only practical choice. No grassy paths nearby and we don’t like the idea of walking her in the street, which probably isn’t any better anyway. What to do?
10:51 am on July 27th, 2014
Mommy is making pancakes in our new apron. It is my job to inspect the batter.

10:52 am on July 27th, 2014
Barb, I don’t have any experience with tha. Sorry.
11:00 am on July 27th, 2014
T.C.: Do you need any help with Inspection Duties?
If so, Bear is available for inspecting the Pancakes as they come off the Griddle.
(just to make sure they are the proper size you understand)
11:15 am on July 27th, 2014
Ever notice that Chet’s Friends can go days with no one you know, then suddenly, lots and lots of familiar faces? Right now is a 2 fur 🙂 Ruby from down under and Basil & Sage. Yippee!
11:17 am on July 27th, 2014
Barb – when Gilly had a sore paw, we used baby socks. Her little legs are tiny, so we got some special tape that only sticks to itself and made a “garter” to keep the sock up.
Bet a big pet store would have dog booties that would protect that paw.
11:24 am on July 27th, 2014
Barb, we’ve never had that problem. Think that Tupper’s Mama may have a point.
11:43 am on July 27th, 2014
Happy Chetspeak, Egg, and Apron Day!
Thank goodness Zeus is better.
Melon Collie indeed. Snicker. Guffaw.
Have a wonderful day, everyone.
12:12 pm on July 27th, 2014
Happy Chetspeak Day Everyone!
Barb, Your idea of a bootie is a good one or socks like T&G suggested.
Zeuskiov, Good to see you looking very chipper. I hope you got to tell your side of the story at P4P.
12:23 pm on July 27th, 2014
Glad to hear no lasting effects of those nasty bees, Zeus. Whew!
Kind if a showery day here at the show. Customers are atill drifting in, but not like other years.
We think if rain as being Nature’s way of reminding us humans that we really aren’t in charge.
This is one of our special friends at the shows. Barkerr is a giant Alaskan Malamute. At the shows he is known as the Security Wolf. This is very funny since Barkerr could be trusted to babysit a kitten.

12:28 pm on July 27th, 2014
Aaagh! I also neglected to ask how Zeus was doing–much better, I hope.
HOH–That is indeed Prince Edgar (he was feeling neglected–the only one NOT to visit the v e t last week, so he got a promotion). I also submitted a couple of others of the family, but they are being moderated which I assume is something those otters do when they’re not corking.
I invite your pawrayers and moral support (for me me me) as I am going to try and eat sensibly (avoiding the D word) at least until the second week of August. So far so good, but it’s only 9:30 here…
Happy Egg Day one and all.
12:33 pm on July 27th, 2014
Tupper’s Mama–that Barkerr is a knockout–thanks for the photo. I hope it also rains sales and revenue today.
Lucy Lou–Please try and give your Mom the benefit of the doubt. It is possible that your froggie friend doesn’t enjoy cuddling quite as much as you do and would like to be back near the water. Maybe you can look longingly at the pond at get your Mom to bribe you with a treat.
12:35 pm on July 27th, 2014
Diane: Paws crossed for your Successful Non-Diet.
I couldn’t do it, but Maggie tells me Barb seems to be doing pretty darn good.
12:37 pm on July 27th, 2014
Tupper’s Mama: Barkerr? Sounds Strangely Familiar.
12:39 pm on July 27th, 2014
Barb, Amazon has two products, Musher’s Secret and Paw Guard, that coat and protect the paw pads. Also they have small rubber boots that are disposable.
12:46 pm on July 27th, 2014
BSD–thanks for the encouragement–it is always welcome (and needed).
MPM–I’ve never heard of Paw Guard or Musher’s Secret but they sound like a long-overdue item (I’m also thinking in terms of human’s w/blisters).
B and M–Sorry not to have had anything productive to add–the late great Magnus did have paw problems and we did try booties but he seemed to get the most benefit from pulling them off, which didn’t help. (Maybe your girl is more cooperative than a macho Lhasa Apso, though)
12:47 pm on July 27th, 2014
Please ignore intrusive and inappropriate apostrophe in plural “humans” above…
2:07 pm on July 27th, 2014
Rain, rain go away
Come again some other day ( when we are not at an outdoor show)
sigh, glub, glub, glub
2:41 pm on July 27th, 2014
Golinka: Have you tried shaking your fist at the sky? That is what our lady does.
2:44 pm on July 27th, 2014
B&M: The giant uses mushers secret in us all the time. It might help Lucy. If you have a sewing machine, you can make booties fairly easily, too.
2:44 pm on July 27th, 2014
TM: So sorry the weather is not cooperating this weekend. We know how important this weekends show is to you and the Storyteller. Unfortunately, as you well know, the weather is one of those things over which we mortals have little control.
3:15 pm on July 27th, 2014
T.C.: I hope your pancakes turned out yummy!
3:15 pm on July 27th, 2014
Rain: BOO,
There, that ought to do it.
3:59 pm on July 27th, 2014

4:15 pm on July 27th, 2014
THIEVES! When you are done splorting, can you train Rose, me, not the puppy in the fine points of procurement?
4:55 pm on July 27th, 2014
I know you were here. I felt the blur. It was a wonder filled day. I am recovering. I will get more pictures, you will hear Will and his friend play the bagpipes and drums. We had friends, so many,, who loved both Dan and Melanie. I almost don’t believe it. Melanie was right to want a party. Thank you all for blurring to our celebration. Martha said she wrote and so far I haven’t found that, but I will learn. I am so fortunate in family and friends, far and near. Love to you all from Zoe , Waltzing Mathilda and RIverbear Robert’s Mr. McKey (Mac).

Whirlwind of a day here. Went to the city of Chattanooga pool complex at noon. Olympic size pool with h20 slide and obstacle course. 1′ and 2′ wading pools and a splash water park. G-son had fun and DDD about killed himself so mom could see him play. Then out for a late lunch at a great Mexican place (know it is great as many local hispanics eat there).
Tonight is HP 3…Prisoner of Azkaban. G-son and mom have been doing one a night with the comfy cheetah throw 🙂 🙂 🙂 (and occasionally a 4 legger or 2 join in)
5:18 pm on July 27th, 2014
THIEVES! I hope youse and your Lady are okay.
5:21 pm on July 27th, 2014
Dear Zoe, We loved sharing our Memories of Melanie and Dan, with
each other, and with you.
Thank you for letting us be a part of that very Special Day.
5:31 pm on July 27th, 2014
B&M, hope your girl’s b-day celebration was wonderful and tonight’s dinner is purrect in every way. Golinka and Storyteller, bah to rain on your parade.
5:36 pm on July 27th, 2014
Zoe, It was my privilege to blur by. Love you.
5:47 pm on July 27th, 2014
Zoe!…snorkel!
5:50 pm on July 27th, 2014
Slobber!…Oh dear dawg she made meatballs today…gasp!…They smell so good. Now she is making a big ole pot of her spaghetti sauce. I bet those meatballs will be going in that sauce and not in my bowl…gurgle!wheeze!…Fresh basil from her pot o’ basil is in that sauce right now…sniff!sniff!…Her mother said, “That stinks don’t put too much of that in there.”… So my friend put more basil innit…heh!heh!chuffle!
6:04 pm on July 27th, 2014
How can anyone say basil stinks? It has a wonderful aroma as it cooks.
Back from the lake. Kelly loved her Fitz and Floyd.
Barb thanks you for the suggestions. She is going to look for some rubber booties. I don’t think something that is applied to the pad would be as helpful. Her foot sort of slides sideways and she wears the side of the pad off from rubbing it on the sidewalk. It is like using an emery board on one edge of the pad. We might try a sock too till we can find a booty. Thank you again.
6:41 pm on July 27th, 2014
Rose!…Burp!..snort!
6:43 pm on July 27th, 2014
Basil!…Someone who has no idea about cooking might think basil stinks, that is my theory and I’m sticking to it…grump!…I’m pretty sure it will give her a gut-ache tonight, not all the other crappy non-food she has been eating all day long…sniff!
7:16 pm on July 27th, 2014
RIO! chuffle! wheeze!
7:45 pm on July 27th, 2014
Supper!…Was awesome!…snort!…Even someone who thinks basil stinks had no complaints …heh!heh!
8:05 pm on July 27th, 2014
Our hatches atre battened. Big storms are on the way. We are all listening to music, so we won’t have to hear that crap.
8:18 pm on July 27th, 2014
O’Howlers, there is a massive band of thunderstorms sweeping from you and up past us. We are all going to get it big time. They’re forecasting major flooding here.
8:20 pm on July 27th, 2014
Howlers!…That Kat Apron is on the right person…heh!heh!…My friend says TC is very cute and blah..blah…blah…grunt!..That is all I can repeat as a true non-kat-pug…wheeze!
8:21 pm on July 27th, 2014
Yeeeep!…Youse all all run for high ground. We here know a bit about flooding…gah!gasp!
8:47 pm on July 27th, 2014
Auntie M! Hold on tight to something that won’t blow away! I wish I could hold you down, but I think I’m going to be blown far away myself. Yikes!
9:00 pm on July 27th, 2014
My Dear Niece Kat, after your mom sounded the alarm I thought I had better go take a look at Intellicast. Wow, what a surprise! I would’ve gone to bed soon, and left all the windows open. I think the flood would’ve been right here with me.
9:46 pm on July 27th, 2014
Saying nighty noodles. Stay safe everyone!
10:24 pm on July 27th, 2014
Mama is home safe and sound and soggy. We TOLD her not to go and abandon us, but there you go. See what happens?
Thieves- all of Mama’s ancestors would come and get her if she ever shook her fist at the sky. She was really pushing her luck wishing the rain away. She says she only can get away with that because she asks the rain to come back later – but it is still pushing her luck.
Rio – Mama says your dinner sounded delish. She splurged on a surf and turf dinner tonight on the way home. Something about deserving a treat – who knows what that was about.
And on our behalf, we would like to state that Basil does indeed stink. And so does Sage!
tee hee
10:25 pm on July 27th, 2014
HEY!
10:26 pm on July 27th, 2014
G-son and mom just finished the 3rd Potter movie movie and she has tucked him in. Think the sun and water tired out DDD and G-son. We are going to say nighty night and curl up. Stay safe, everyone.
11:17 pm on July 27th, 2014
Basil!…sniff!sniff!…I think you smell just fine…heh!…Sage on the other paw makes me sneeze!sneeze!sneeze!…aaagh!
