Chetspeak on Sunday
Vannah Boutette crossed her legs, uncrossed them, crossed them again. Bernie’s gaze went to the ceiling, the floor, back to her legs. We were in the office, just down the hall from the kitchen, Bernie at the desk, Vannah on the couch, me on the rug, a comfortable, nubbly rug with a circus elephant pattern. I was fond of the pattern, had once gotten to know a circus elephant named Peanut quite well, but no time for that now.
“You work out of your home?” Vannah said.
“Any problem with that?” Bernie said.
“Why would I have problem with that? I work out of my place, too.”
“Yeah? What line of, uh … “
“Let’s call it importing,” Vannah said.
“What kind of goods?”
“Good goods, bad goods, everything in between.”

Good morning, everyone! Love that Chetspeak! Love Egg Day…new to Kiya but we told her and now she loves it too! It doesn’t get much better than this 🙂
Sunday Snowhook auction summer day. (try saying that all day)
9:27 am on July 6th, 2014
Good morning and Happy Egg Day! Yesterday, Kat went to our new dog park, bright and early. She was still celebrating her birthday. Then we all went for a walk around the (3 mile) block. It was Zeus’ first walk out from our farm, and our first walk with him. He was excellent, imho. We went past dogs and he walked on by. Mom is now nervous because she gets scarit that the invisible fence may be confusing after he walks thru with them. I told her to relax. We all learned that, easy peasy.

After the walk, Zeus went to the taproom to have his beverage of choice with Tundra. He was the essence of calm.
Today: auction ends. The ‘rents are going to a First Sunday partay. I hope Mom stays aware of the time, and doesn’t miss out on bidding at the last, crucial second!
9:51 am on July 6th, 2014
Good morning Chet and all.
10:02 am on July 6th, 2014
Greetings!
A beautiful Egg Day has broken here in Westchester! Nice blue skies, sun, puffy white clouds, and low humidity. If only every summer’s day could be this way.
Late, but not forgotten….Happy Birthday Macy’s Mom!
TEDDY, TEDDY, TEDDY! You are doing a great job at AC!
Good day to all!
10:03 am on July 6th, 2014
Mama Meash, that is a great picture !
10:13 am on July 6th, 2014
Wake up all you sleepy heads and time to bid, bid, bid!!! Last day of the auction is upon us, and lots of wonderful items can be yours just for the highest bid. Remember, Auction Central closes promptly at 3:00 pm EDT, so don’t be tardy in your bidding.
10:24 am on July 6th, 2014

10:31 am on July 6th, 2014
Thanks Teddy and Rio for running Auction Central and for putting the links to the auction site up on the blog.
First an egg and coffee, then the auction. I want to have my wits about me today.
10:49 am on July 6th, 2014
The birds are torturing the cats. It doesn’t take much. They are sitting on the telephone wire out front while the cats sit on the windowsill gnashing their teeth.
I’m in the export business. “Good goods, bad goods, everything in between.” Mind if I use that for my rummage sale ad?
10:52 am on July 6th, 2014
Love the picture Howlers. Happy Sunday to everyone. No eggs here this morning, just 1/4 of a cantaloupe. Barb is sticking with the diet for 4 more weeks. So far so good. Now she has to start some serious doggy walks around the block. Sounds like a good plan to me.
Does anyone read Barbara Delinsky? Barb is reading an older (2002) book of hers, The Accidental Woman. It is very good so far. There is a woman with a spinal cord injury who is a main character, and maple sugar making in New Hampshire is woven throughout the story line. Quite interesting.
11:01 am on July 6th, 2014
Barb&Maggie: Sounds delicious! Er…I mean, sounds like a good book!
11:13 am on July 6th, 2014
Wait! Did I miss a birthday? Macy’s Mom’s! I must take time out of shopping to wish you a Happy Birthday!
11:14 am on July 6th, 2014
Wose! If. Egg Day has broken, does that mean scrambled eggs for you?
Macy, we missed your birthday!!! Please forgive us; there were so many happenings and car rides and stuff yesterday, I only got to read every other paragraph. I hope your birthday was a joyous one. Your joy makes your mama’s days peaceful.
Maggie, does Barb walk you and Lucy together? I hope so. My mom walks me and the Kat, and we girls enjoy each other’s company a lot!
11:20 am on July 6th, 2014
Meashka: Another of my poorly worded sentences. No eggs were harmed in the WItte household.
Many happy returns of th day, Macy!
11:32 am on July 6th, 2014
Happy Chetspeak Day Everyone!
Happy Birthday Wishes one day late to Miss Macy!!
KEEP BIDDING!!!
11:58 am on July 6th, 2014
Yes, a belated Happy Birthday to Miss Macy. Did you hear from Mr. Redbone? Any cards? Gifts?
Barb is a WUSS. She is afraid to walk us together, due to the fact that if I see something chase-worthy I might yank on the leash. Lucy being a hound, bred for small game hunting, is also very interested in little furry critters. It would be much more fun to walk together, so maybe she can get Josh or Jess to walk one of us just to see how we do together.
Dawson, Did you mean the cantaloupe sounded delicious or the maple syrup?
12:01 pm on July 6th, 2014
Barb&Maggie: I meant the maple syrup sounded delish but I like cantaloupe too.
12:11 pm on July 6th, 2014
Maggie, Mom used to worry about walking two of us at a time too. In fact, she wouldn’t have tried me with anyone until a few years ago, when I “mellowed down”. I am a very strong woman.
She does have a trekking belt. She uses that on hikes (trails) and she can even walk 3 huskies at a time with us hooked to that belt, because she has so much more leverage with her body than just an arm. Barb may want to check into one of those.
12:11 pm on July 6th, 2014
Happy belated birthday, Macy’s Mom!
Love the picture, OHs. How is Tundra doing in his new home?
12:22 pm on July 6th, 2014
BooBear, word has it that Tundra is livening things up at Kat’s godmom’s place. Maybe “livening” is not the right word, given sleep deprivation and toy cleanup required 24×7. Tundra really loves his maw, and his maw really dotes on him. All the rest is just part of the adventure of a Sibe pup! Ha ha! I speak from experience. Raising my own Sibe pup wore me out, but I wouldn’t give her up for all the salmon in Alaska.
12:48 pm on July 6th, 2014
Correction! The time posted at the top of this here page is off by two hours. The auction closes at 11:00 a.m. Hobbit time. That’s 3:00 p.m. Teddy time. Yeep!
Teddy: We are delivering some more bacon to you for closing day. Enjoy!
1:00 pm on July 6th, 2014
Spencer!…Got the closing time right for Mountain Daylight Time…snort!…What a guy!…heh!heh!
1:32 pm on July 6th, 2014
Ruff Rider: What is the hot wing situation at AC? We can bring more along with the bacon.
2:04 pm on July 6th, 2014
One hour and counting!
2:06 pm on July 6th, 2014
YEEEEP!…I hope Teddy doesn’t crack under the pressure…snort!
2:09 pm on July 6th, 2014
More hot wings are always appreciated. And for all you wannabe bidders out there, now is the time to get your bids in.
2:23 pm on July 6th, 2014
Mom just added up the high bids on all the auction items and it totals over $2000. Yeah! And there is still over 1/2 hour to go! Come on, guys! Double check and see if you can bid some more.
2:24 pm on July 6th, 2014
Thanks for all the b-day wishes. It is I, Macy, who is another year older, not mom.(she made me say that).
G’day to all.
2:27 pm on July 6th, 2014
Ruff Rider: You may not have noticed because your are busy tracking bids, but we just delivered more hot wings as well as a bacon and Slim Jim arrangement as a thank you to you and Rio for all your hard work at the auction house.
Rio: We have no doubt Teddy is going to do just fine in these final minutes of the auction. After all, you were his mentor in all things auction.
2:32 pm on July 6th, 2014
Gah! I need to do errands but also need to hang over the computer to check bids. [I guess I can wait another 30 minutes]
Good morning all. Finally caught up on sleep given the 2 late nights with fireworks. Sadie & I invited Tyson (poodle mix) over to play. Tyson was dropped off at 9 am and left at 5 pm. He played with Sadie for 5 minutes at 11 am and 5 minutes at 3 pm. So I had a depressed Sadie on my hands along with a homesick Tyson. They had played together once before but Tyson wasn’t having it today.
2:33 pm on July 6th, 2014
And speaking of cracking under pressure…a police recruit was asked what he would do if he had to arrest his own mother. He said, “Call for backup”.
2:37 pm on July 6th, 2014
Teddy: Pay no attention to the banging coming from BOOM. We noticed it started smoking so we called our Lady. She came by with her bedazzled hammer and a fresh string of swears. It turns out the hot wing dispenser was jammed. She also changed the spark plugs. Should be working like a charm.
2:39 pm on July 6th, 2014
Back up! We’ve met a lot of folks by that name at the vet checks for the race. It must be high on the list of popular names. Even the Giant has been nick named Back Up a time or two, but our Lady usually calls him AJ.
2:48 pm on July 6th, 2014
WE love the Yappy Hour foto…looks like fun! Glad Tundre is getting exposed to things (other than fleas and ticks).
2:51 pm on July 6th, 2014
Minutes!…Only minutes left to place your bids!…snort!snort!
2:57 pm on July 6th, 2014
Yeep!
2:58 pm on July 6th, 2014
TWO!…TWO MINUTES to go!….WOOOOO!
2:59 pm on July 6th, 2014
Teddy is a professional. When he saw our Lady covered in hot wing sauce after unjamming the jammed hot wing dispenser, he kept his eyes on the bids and only thought about thought about liking the sauce from her face and hands. Ruff Rider—you are made of the tough stuff.
3:04 pm on July 6th, 2014
Yeep I hope my last minute bid got in. I thought I sent it but I couldn’t find it so I sent it again with 3 minutes left. Then I found it, right where it was supposed to be, in the sent mail folder. Whew!
3:05 pm on July 6th, 2014
Oh no.
Goodby Mr. Carrot!
(I think I missed out on the luxurious double cuddle Cheeta throw, too.)
3:05 pm on July 6th, 2014
SOLD! To the highest bidder! Thanks to all youse for making the auction possible!
3:06 pm on July 6th, 2014
Teddy!…He is totaling up the final bids…snorkel!…He is doing a very good job at the keyboard…heh!heh!
3:07 pm on July 6th, 2014
Oh Great!
My last minute bid was 1 tenth of a second after Staff’s bid so I hope Teddy Ruff Rider is good with the numbers just in case we are bidding on the same thing!
3:08 pm on July 6th, 2014
I don’t care who wins or doesn’t win, as long as I win my mommy that apron so we can have fun when we can cook together!
3:09 pm on July 6th, 2014
Last minute bidding is a nail and couch pillow biter 🙁
3:09 pm on July 6th, 2014
Uh-oh, I wonder if that was the apron I wanted? Hmmmm?
3:11 pm on July 6th, 2014
Let the light shine upon him, dear Dog.
3:13 pm on July 6th, 2014
Carpola!
3:14 pm on July 6th, 2014
Thank you, Rio and Teddy RR for a wonderful job!
3:18 pm on July 6th, 2014
AbbieTheKat….snicker!
3:19 pm on July 6th, 2014
But, BB! I did not get my most favorite, necessary toy!!!
ok, technically, I guess it is not Teddy’s fault, so I will give him and Rio a super big THANK YOU for manning ac.
3:19 pm on July 6th, 2014
Beau! We wonder if Beau won the items he wanted.
Beau: Is prayer part of your auction strategy? It is part of our auto maintenance plan.
3:21 pm on July 6th, 2014
Crunch-Time!….I don’t know if Beau got what he wanted – Teddy is still crunching numbers…yeeeep!
3:31 pm on July 6th, 2014
Teddy is crunching? Double-Carpola! I must have missed the food items completely!
3:33 pm on July 6th, 2014
ATTENTION. It was crazy at the end. Bids were flying furiously in. Chicken wings were flying furiously about (sorry about that, Fern). But in the end, we got all the bids recorded and Auction Central has shut down. While it will take a while to let all the winning bidders know what they have won, I can report that the grand total raised was $2213.00, with the top two items each coming in with winning bids of $500.00!!!!!! Wow, what a finish — a real sprint to the end.
3:39 pm on July 6th, 2014
Whew!…This calls for a dive into that Vat O’ Beer!…WOOOOOO!WHEEEZE…{{{splash!!}}}
3:50 pm on July 6th, 2014
Wow! When our lady saw the total she assumed Beau’s sleeping position with all fours up in the air. Once we revived her, we assumed the same position.
Rio: Wait for us!
3:55 pm on July 6th, 2014
Teddy and Rio, Thank you for a job well done! You two could turn pro on the online auction circuit.
Thanks to all of you that donated the wonderful items.
I would call this auction a huge success!
3:57 pm on July 6th, 2014
A success indeed! Plus, BOOM held its own.
4:09 pm on July 6th, 2014
Rio and Teddy RR were both gentlemen when mom messed up bids. Sigh. Can’t take her anywhere.
Congratulations to all, thanks to all and Onward Snowhook!
4:35 pm on July 6th, 2014
Phooey…I think I join the crowd of missing out on something I wanted but that’s the way it goes.
Ikette wasn’t adopted yesterday at the adoption clinic. Double Phooey.
4:35 pm on July 6th, 2014
Whoooohoooo! Great job by Rio and Teddy!
Congratulations to all the winning bidders!
GO SNOWHOOK!
4:37 pm on July 6th, 2014
CHobbit, Perhaps Ikette’s not getting adopted is a sign….
4:49 pm on July 6th, 2014
Congratulations TC, on your win. grump. And great job Teddy and Rio TEP and Rebecca!
Staff got what she wanted but I got STIFFED. WAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

4:52 pm on July 6th, 2014
I be Ikette gets to to go back to his foster home for awhile.
We got outbid with 5 minutes remaining! Wait till we find out who did that! We may have to grab a pant leg!
4:54 pm on July 6th, 2014
Sadieeeee…..come and get me……sniff sniff sniff

I am so sad and lonely
4:58 pm on July 6th, 2014
Ha, ha. I did message the rescue agent to inquire as to what mix Ikette was and how big he might get. I will adopt him next Saturday if someone else doesn’t beat me to it.
5:03 pm on July 6th, 2014
OMD!
CHobbit: Congratulations (maybe)!
I won items #14 and 25 & 26! That’s the pillowcases and the Purple Bling Bear. WhooooHoooo! Thank you to all who donated and bid and I must say there were some amazing bargains at this auction!
Go Snowhook!
5:17 pm on July 6th, 2014
Mom thinks she got outbid at the last minute too. She started the bidding on the short story but that jumped out of her limit very quickly. At the end, she was bidding on Beau’s church and Silly Gilly’s bear. Knew we lost out on the bear but looks like we lost out on the church too. Rats!!
CHobbitt, why are you waiting until Saturday and are you going to foster Ikette this week?
5:17 pm on July 6th, 2014
Royals: You told me no a couple of days ago. Was this to tell me I couldn’t have an Ikette of my very own? Very well. I need a Hobbit who has her own Ikette or I’m going to be in a very bad mood.
5:20 pm on July 6th, 2014
Ike is so cute…sniff
5:28 pm on July 6th, 2014
Thank you to Rio And Teddy for making bidding so much fun! Great job you two! Thank you for the generosity of those who donated such great items! I didn’t win everything I bid on (I really wanted that night light), but I won some great items, and am happy I was able to participate
5:42 pm on July 6th, 2014
Dawson, I put in the high bid bid on the bling bear at three minutes before closing and you managed to beat me out.
5:43 pm on July 6th, 2014
CHobbit: Yay! I am sure Ikette will love that his forever home will be with you!
5:44 pm on July 6th, 2014
Dawson, I put in the high bid bid on the bling bear at three minutes before closing and you managed to beat me out. That’s not nice!
5:49 pm on July 6th, 2014
I lost the bidding on the two items I was trying for: the book on tea and the silk scarf–I lost the scarf at the last minute. (I’m thinking bad words….)
5:50 pm on July 6th, 2014
Thieves!…Have the person who feeds youse guys check her SDD…sniff!
5:51 pm on July 6th, 2014
Stover!…I thought for sure you had that lovely scarf locked-in…gruffle!
6:06 pm on July 6th, 2014
Rio: Checked and responded.
6:09 pm on July 6th, 2014
Scarf got too pricey too quickly for mom, but she knows that I like the feel of silk between my teeth so it is just as well. (darah the darling dozer)
6:22 pm on July 6th, 2014
C Hobbit, Ikette does not have huge paws, so we are thinking more medium size. What did they say? Does he have some terrier mixed in?
Yes, we lost at the last minute on the chicken and garden box. Who got it? Anyone want to admit to it?
6:24 pm on July 6th, 2014
If he hadn’t already been named Ike we would have thought “Socks”, since he has 4 white paws. Or you could have gone with Sake for the Japanese liquor.
6:26 pm on July 6th, 2014
OK B&M, Mom got it for her adopted son who gardens in pots and paints chickies. Sorry 🙂 He once painted a 3’x4′ chicken and framed it with chicken wire over it.
6:33 pm on July 6th, 2014
CHobbit!…If you adopt that little guy with the name I cannot pronounce you should call him “Chance” as he would be getting a second chance in life…heh!heh!
6:35 pm on July 6th, 2014
Pillow!…WOOOO HOOO!…Beau managed to get my Pillows for me!…WOOOOO!…I’m sure my friend will put a foto of me!me!me! in the photo frame too…heh!…Everybody wins – especially me!…snort!
6:52 pm on July 6th, 2014
Hey, Did the OH get the siber hat? Inquiring hat lovers want to know!
6:55 pm on July 6th, 2014
HOG!…Chicken wire!…snort!…Now that is clever…heh!heh!
7:02 pm on July 6th, 2014
Wow!
The silk scarf is beautiful. Congratulations to whoever won it!
7:12 pm on July 6th, 2014
Yeah! We’ve are going to have a new plunderer baby…..little Ike! Way to go, C.Hobbitt!
7:21 pm on July 6th, 2014
It was indeed a great auction.
Mama has her fingers crossed. She told the Storyteller that all she wanted for her birthday was 1) to go out for dinner, and 2) a certain signed and numbered old book from the auction
We have had unexpected company all afternoon, and now the Storyteller is out picking up a pizza for dinner.
And Mama is pacing the floor, all paws crossed that he got a bid in sometime during the chaos of the weekend……
Pacing, pacing, pacing.
7:24 pm on July 6th, 2014
Pizza!…Zow!…Someone here is going to cook up some BLT’s for supper – right now!!…snort!…You definitely cannot get much better than that…gurgle!
7:24 pm on July 6th, 2014
We love the name Chance. That is perfect.
7:40 pm on July 6th, 2014
Rescue agent didn’t mention his breed mix but said that based on other dogs from the same area, he should be between 45-65 pounds. He didn’t have big feet which I always thought was one of the indicators so I don’t know. The agent said that 3 people did fill out apps for him. I am not sure of the adoption procedure but it is nice if indeed they screen owners. I had thought that one just paid the adoption fee and got the dog. So we will see what next week brings.
I had offered to re-foster him last Friday if he didn’t get adopted but she said that the current foster was willing to continue.
Dawson, I am glad you won the bling bear even though I wanted it as did MPM. I even had a place envisioned for it in my home. I think I won the pupper weight which would be nice because I have a cat weight to go with it.
7:42 pm on July 6th, 2014
Rio, I’m happy you got those pillows and frame, but I REALLY liked them!
7:43 pm on July 6th, 2014
My mom is Martha, the sister of your friend who loved purple. She bid on and won the blue bear of Golinka. She also bid on and won the beautiful Iris picture for Zoe. What a great auction!
7:49 pm on July 6th, 2014
Scout, your mom, Martha, is as clever as her sister over the bridge. How perfect that you get the blue bear and Zoe gets the purple Iris…it was meant 🙂
7:57 pm on July 6th, 2014
Hey Scout: Those irises are beautiful. Also one of my mom’s favorite flowers. Your mom beat me out by seconds, bidding on those irises! It is nice to know they are going to Zoe, the mother of our Heart Friend and Raven’s Woman! See you on the 26th!
8:03 pm on July 6th, 2014
Barb loves iris too. They were her dad’s favorite flower and her paternal grandparents always had dozens of bearded iris in all colors in their flower gardens. How perfect that Zoe will have the photo.
Hobbit, we don’t think Ike will be 60 lbs. Our guess is 35-45 lbs.
8:04 pm on July 6th, 2014
Scout, I am so glad you won the iris picture for Zoe. My mom thought of Melanie and Zoe when she saw that picture. It is so much prettier and the color is much more vibrant than the picture posted on the auction website. I will make sure Mom packages it very carefully and gets it mailed to you pronto!
8:14 pm on July 6th, 2014
Scout, I am so glad you won those items. This is the perfect outcome for those two beautiful auction items.
I am agreeing with Barb on Ike’s size as an adult dog…maybe closer to the 35 lbs.
8:18 pm on July 6th, 2014
SCOUT! Wahooooo! So good to see you on this here blog! And we have a feeling that a certain little bear just might get hand delivered to your mom- soon. Very soon
Pizza is all gobbled up. We are going back outside to watch the bats again.
8:39 pm on July 6th, 2014
Kiya’s family just came to take her home. One happy girl 🙂 WE told her 2 leggers she can come back anytime. A really busy weekend.
8:41 pm on July 6th, 2014
Wow!…What a great Auction!…snort!…Martha here on this blog, this is amazing!…snorke!…Hi Martha! You out-bid some of the best today…heh!heh!
9:21 pm on July 6th, 2014
Indentured Servitude! Luna has been making us clean up the Auction House since the gavel struck. It turns out two Thieves, a pug and a Ruff Rider jumping to a vat of whatever at the same time causes quite a splash. Turns out, quite-a-splashes lead to quite a big mess. We had no idea. Lesson learnt.
Thanks again to all youse who make this auction possible. Does it mean the world to us?—Does a pug snort?
While we’ve been mopping up the mess we left at AC, our Lady has been living a life of leisure catching up on SDDs. She said she has responded to those of you who contacted her following the SDD she sent to Dish last week. She thanks all youse for your encouragement and support.
9:36 pm on July 6th, 2014
What a great day and a great auction.
We are going to call it a day. Thanks to Rio and Teddy’s folks and Rebecca for all the hard work that went into making the auction a big success.
10:09 pm on July 6th, 2014
A certain Giant is getting home tonight! We here, including our Lady, are excited. She wants to have all the chores done, the house clean, and the laundry put away so he can relax for the evening when he gets home, home, home to us, us, us.
It was 96 degrees and 930 when she was doing morning chores. This morning it was 60 degrees and she found out the hard way that her chore jacket is not meant for torrential down pours.
10:22 pm on July 6th, 2014
Thanks everyone. We will see if I end up with Ikette or not next Saturday. I think a family with many loving hands would be best but being with Sadie would be the next best. I can’t change his name to Socks as it is too close to Sadie and I already went through a Lady / Sadie mix up with my other dog. Also I can’t name him Chance because a former student who turned out to be less than stellar as a student and a person was named Chance. 🙂
But let’s not count our eggs before they hatch…
10:25 pm on July 6th, 2014
CHobbit: What about changing Ikette’s name to Bellestarriswonderfulette? Some eggs may or may not have been counted in the suggesting of that name. It’s what I do.
10:32 pm on July 6th, 2014
With sparkles 🙂 Nighty night
10:40 pm on July 6th, 2014
HOH: Razzle dazzle, nighty night to you and all that jazz.
10:51 pm on July 6th, 2014
I forgot to mention that mom finally cooked those eggs for us this a.m. First Egg day here. Yum.
Yesterday Belle jumped on mom’s tender spots and mom tossed her on the floor, which turned out to have the laptop on it. Three letters went missing, and the “I” key still has not turned up. Mom just wants things to be right again, and for the “G” key to stay put.
Pasta Manana.
11:26 pm on July 6th, 2014
Or he could be Plunder Pup (PP for short which would be appropriate given that I am having my carpets professionally cleaned next week)
12:39 am on July 7th, 2014
Oh dear Hobbit. You simply can’t call that adorable pup PP. Think of the social stigma. Think how the other pups at the dog park will laugh.
He needs a name with dignity. Or at least one that won’t raise eyebrows.
Hmmm. How about Chet? Plain and simple.
12:43 am on July 7th, 2014
Or Bilbo. Or Sam Gamgee. You know – a hobbit name
12:44 am on July 7th, 2014
I always wanted to name my next animal Faux Pas for mistake. Pronounced Four Paws (Fo Pa would be the southern pronunciation).
