Chetspeak on Sunday

“Chet – let’s get a move on, buddy.”

Chet? That was me, and getting a move on was my kind of thing. Plus here at K-9 School they were big fans of me coming when my name was called – pretty soon after, in fact, if you wanted a treat. Which I always did. But at this particular moment, I had just lifted my leg, and once started in on something like that, there’s really no stopping till it’s over, as you probably know. I’m not referring to the brief leg lift for marking purposes, over and done with in a flash. This was the other kind, much longer lasting, and often a peaceful break in the day, where the mind can wander in a pleasant sort of –

“Chet!”

I finished up and trotted over to Officer Bobby Torres. Bobby gave me a funny look. I gave him a funny look back. His eyes, dark and watchful, narrowed a bit, and he wrote something on his clipboard. I yawned. Bobby opened the back door of his black-and-white.

“In,” he said.

– from A Cat Was Involved, the first Chet and Bernie e-short story. (#3, The Teitelbaum Divorce, comes out July 8.)

Welcome Bob (security expert).

Good morning all and Happy Chetspeak Sunday.

Going to relax and watch saving Mr. Banks this morning and then head out to Chuck E Cheeses this afternoon for Jack’s 5th b-day party. Nothing more fun than 2 hours of 14 wild crazy little boys, playing video games and eating bad pizza.

Happy Egg Day! We feel your pain, Chet. Darn two-leggers trying to rush us when we are doing our thing. They need to learn to relax. Take Barb, for example. She is going to have a wonderfully relaxing afternoon at Chuck E Cheese. Heh heh heh heh!

The event for Jaxon was beautiful. The cake thing was something Jake and Kirsten did earlier and they threw it out before people arrived. There were some stuffties at the grave, and a balloon. When everyone arrived, it was storming like crazy. Then it stopped, and got dark, and a nice little crescent moon came out. Everyone was given a Chinese lantern. When Jake said it was time, they all lighted them. What a beautiful awesome scene! Have you guys ever seen Chinese lanterns? This was the first time Mom and Pop did. They oohed and aahed. These things go way way way up and look like stars. After the last one disappeared, they came back home. That was it. What a very nice tribute and celebration for their boy.
Hope this shows up when you enlarge it.

Good morning B&M(&LB) and OH and everyone! Life is wonderful with Sunday and Chetspeak and Egg Day! Our eggs were scrambled today. July??? We are still waiting for the Teitelbaum divirce. Sounds like lots of fun.
Have a super Sunday. (except maybe poor Barb who “gets” to go the Chuck E. Cheese)

Rio I am OK. Really I think I posted on Friday night. I should go back and look just to prove you wrong but I am still sleepy from waking up too early.

Yesterday was quilting at the Henhouse with my pals. So cool to be back. Tonight we go to see Spiderman 2 at the Delchar Theatre which is reopening this weekend.

It got down to the middle 20’s last night and there is frost on the car and plants. Yikes. Last frost date is more than 2 weeks away. Still too muddy to work in the garden. Darn it all.

    http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/433503/

I think I will go make an egg or two for breakfast. (I am going to be getting fresh eggs from a local person this summer! Starting on Tuesday.

I was wondering why Spence put “#3” before the Teitelbaum Divorce e-story and then I remembered the Iggy Chronicles. What fun!

Masquers and Rio: I’ve watched the three episodes of Fargo. It’s very well done. (I’m a fan of Martin Freeman and he puts on an American accent very well.) I find it interesting that the Thornton character is named Malvo. (“Mal”–bad, abnormal.)

Think I’ll watch the Saving Mr. Banks movie later today. Sounds like a good idea Barb.

    Good morning Chet and all.

Hobbit on the move…flying home today. Because there is a huge bike race through NYC today, we caught a shuttle to the airport at 7:15 am before they started closing streets. So we got to the airport at 8:00 am and our plane doesn’t leave until 1:00 pm. First we go to Salt Lake City arriving at 4:30 and then take off for Anchorage at 7:30 pm. I hope to be home shortly after 11:00 Alaska time. A very long day but Sadie awaits. Happy reunion time!

Barb and Wose, it was beautiful. And fun. Jake told Mom that since this worked so well, they will probably do it every year. Mom thought maybe she wouldn’t keep going to it. But this morning, when thinking about how much fun it was being with family and sending up those gorgeous lanterns, she is on board for repeating this every year. Their nephew is so warm and sensitive and upbeat, making the event a joy to witness and partake in. She knows Jake and Kirstin had tears in their eyes, but nothing sad or macabre was part of this occasion.

The movie was very good, although we found P.L. Travers, the author of Mary Poppins, to be a most unlikable, difficult and crabby woman. It must have taken great patience to work with her in the making of the movie.

Howlers, it does sound like the ceremony was a positive tribute and not sad or depressing. Glad it went well.

    Boobear, any more eggs yet?

Now Barb must start getting ready for the afternoon frolic.

I’m back from my trip to my Girl’s school! I thought we were there to break her out of there, but it was peaceful and she said she would be home soon. We brought back a lot of stuff that smells like her so that was good. I made myself right at home in her dorm room and stayed underfoot, which helps the moving process a lot. Loulou was a pest as usual.

OH, several weeks back we mentioned Siberian iris but had none blooming.Today while battling weeds and working on herbs, we found one lonely one in a place they have never been before. Took a foto for you since it will be in the 80’s all week and are sure it won’t last long.

Doesn’t have much leaf like bearded and Dutch and only about 1 foot tall.

Very pretty, HOH. Bearded Iris were Barb’s dad’s favorite flower. She inherited her love of gardening and animals from him.

Did we tell you Lily, age 12 is checking out colleges where she can take her horse with her? She has also decided she wants to be a vet. So proud of her. That was Barb’s dream when she was a kid.

Safe travels back home C. Hobbit. Bet Sadie will be happy to see you.

A late Good Morning and Happy Egg Day to everyone.
O’H thank you for the beautiful description and photo (those were the lanterns, right?).
Hobbit–Welcome home and have a quick and comfortable readjustment to your own time zone. (I forgot to mention earlier that I had found and watched “Gallipoli” on TV the day after you had written about visiting the memorial, which gave the movie new resonance.)
Dawson–I had missed it catching up before, but happy you like the cauliflower/potato/pea recipe. It seems like a natural combination once you try it, but not until you do.
    HOH and other punsters–Dare I hope…?
I’ll be back a little later to tell y’all about learning Historic European Martial Arts (only a little–but I got to play with two kinds of REAL swords! No bloodshed) yesterday.

Diane, yes those were lanterns. They look like stars when they get so high. They are actually big, kite-like bags that have a fuse attached. You light that, and then when the bag fills with hot air, you release it and it floats up up up. Or so we were told. They don’t allow Members of the Nation in the cemetary. Go figure.

Barb&Maggie: You get the “Most Fearless Grandmom of the Year” award.

O’Howler’s: What a moving celebration of young Jaxon’s life. I have never seen Chinese lanterns.

Tupper&Gilly’sMama: I always get that feeling the day before I leave on a trip. Give SiberH a couple scritches from me.

CHobbit: A very long day of travel! I will refresh my limited knowledge of Gallipoli today. Or tomorrow.

Princess Sam: It’s a good thing you were there to keep Loulou in line while you supervised the moving of your girl’s things back home to you, you, you!

Wanna hear about an air adventure?
Mama went to the priceline website today to double check her flight times, only to find that they had cancelled her flight and her car. She still had hotel rooms in New Mexico.
After hours on the phone and chat room, Mama has her ticket and car back. But she had to point out to the “service rep” that here she is in Massachusetts, and the hotels are in New Mexico in less than 48 hours, and that not having the superhero ability to soar thru the air, she WOULD NEED HER PLANE TICKET BACK!
Only then did the rep finally understand.

    We hate outsourcing!

The lanterns have a small candle that generates enough heat to make them float up into the air. The candle doesn’t last very long so the fire goes out and the lanterns float to the ground.
