Chetspeak on Sunday

The camera moved in closer on Charlie, lying still, and Lars started to raise his hand, like he was about to make that chopping motion and say cut, when all of a sudden Charlie’s hands moved, wrapping themselves around the cowboy hat and holding it to his chest. Thad’s eyes misted over. And then Charlie opened his own eyes. For an instant they seemed to see Thad, and then they didn’t. Charlie’s eyes went totally blank and lifeless – I knew that look from my job, had seen it too often – and … and stayed that way!

“Charlie!” Bernie shouted, and ran onto the set. Me right with him, of course. We’re a lot alike, as I may have mentioned before.

– Climax of the movie-shooting scene from A Fistful of Collars. Lars is the director, Thad the star, and Charlie is Bernie’s 6-year-old son and (to everyone’s surprise) a suddenly budding actor.

Welcome Louise, the rescued Greyhound.

    Good morning all.

TYB, you are beautiful and you like word play. Cool.

CHobbit, Staff is right. Your cat(s) will find you at the shelter. You might want to think about two, if you find a pair who can’t be separated. (whisper – one might appear on your doorstep – just sayin’)

Kats . . When I have had Kats they have appeared. Usually waiting on the porch as if it is a foregone conclusion that thay have moved in.

OTAS and GLAD’s newest pair were received from some one who had rescued a pregnant feral Kat. Those two Kats are living the dream.

OHs, Hobbit’s sign made me laugh even harder!

CHobbit, My cat Kelly was given to me by a friend many moons ago. He turned out to be the greatest Kat ever! Perhaps Masquers may give you helpful info. And please be careful shoveling!

RIO! you have a very shiny and sincere tree. It makes me happy that your Rockies ornament is up top on the tree!

    11:57 am on December 15th, 2013

CHobbit – get TWO Kats. They will choose you at the shelter. Mama wanted a cuddle Kat, the Stoyteller wanted a playful Kat. We heard them from our cage, and cried pitifully until they took us out and into the visiting room. Basil crawled into Mama’s lap and purred, and I, Sage, played the string toy game with the Storyteller. That was that. They were hooked.

So get two. They will play together and keep each other company. And it is also MUCH easier for two Kats to package up, tape and address large boxes full of dawg for shipping…oops…did we say that outloud?

    Dear Herd of Hounds.
Daddy Dawg has proven one of those things we have learned about men. They love soft things. They try to act all tough but when it comes down to it they love the soft stuff. I was making a fleece blankie for a new baby and Mr.Staff absconded with it. (Ffog motif) I had to get fabric to make another one.
Then later on I was making a hot pink and white quilt just because and minkee was on sale. So it is Hot Pink and white on top and White minkee on the bottom. It is his also. He does not care that it is not a manly color. He just wants the Minkee. heh heh heh.
He took it to the bluegrass festivals this summer. Depending on the temperature it was either the mattress or the topper quilt.

Thanks everyone about cat advice. My cat Tawny (aka Kitty) definitely picked me at the shelter. I was seeking a Tuxedo cat or a Calico cat and kept walking around the cages. Most of the cats were in the back of the cages either sleeping or ignoring me. Tawny was right up front meowing her head off and grabbing at me through the bars each time I walked by. She was not to be ignored! We were together 18 years. I got a 2nd cat, Patches, a few years later but they never slept or played together–they barely tolerated each other. Perhaps you have to get them together at the same time.

You all are making me want to head to the shelter TODAY but I thought I’d wait until after the Plunderer visit in case anyone is allergic.

Started the day shoveling. I did the deck before I went to bed last night–a mere 2″ but I didn’t know how much it would snow through the night. I had another 2-3″ to shovel this morning. The driveway still needs to be done. I didn’t do it before bed so it looks like a good 5″. Forecast is snow for two more days but I am thinking that it won’t be as thick and heavy.

Let’s see: I have chores to do, books to read, DVR programs to watch. If I was smart, I’d knock out the chores but I am going to reward myself with a couple of hours of reading, then lunch, then chores. But first: chocolate.

  68. Barb & Maggie
    7:24 pm on December 15th, 2013

We liked 42. This country has come a long way towards equality since the 40’s when Jackie Robinson started playing ball. Barb’s Grands, Baye and Lily, went to see the movie with their dad, and were shocked at the language, which they had not heard before. Baye did a report on a person she admired and chose J.R. after seeing that movie.

We want to see 12 years a Slave, but are not particularly interested in the other movie that is up for a Grammy. The female actor who plays the wife in 12 years is a foreign student (going to school in NYC I think). She is not a professional actress, so her performance is amazing.

42 is an excellent movie, in so many ways. Of course, the crossing of that MLB color barrier was huge, but the 40s time was so well done, and then there are the wonderful vintage baseball scenes. It is truly enjoyable to watch, in spite of the anger we felt at those who were on the wrong side of history. The movie really showcased how people’s minds evolved thru the courage a few.

My street has been plowed. The street berms are high and compacted. I took Sadie for a walk and she climbed on top of a berm and then jumped into a yard–and disappeared! Silly dog. Her legs aren’t quite as short as a certain Corgi but she isn’t a tall dog by any means. I also met a couple of enterprising (but tardy) teenagers carrying shovels trying to earn money. I got their names and numbers for future reference.

    Time to figure out dinner….

Staff: that is exactly how it was except Sadie had a 16′ leash attached. After we left the street we were on a plowed bike path through the woods and Sadie keep leaping off the trail into the snow. The bike path is plowed because it is a way to go to a nearby elementary school (even though most kids these days are dropped off or take the bus. I seldom see any kids actually outside walking).

Rio: I am having a stuff portabella mushroom for dinner and a serving of raw vegetables. No beer or hot wings.

Mama is home! She says she wants to just sit until she stops shaking. There was a messy storm this weekend that killed the show, and then it was a matter of driving home on black ice highways that were full of IDIOTS!

But they’re home, and safe and sound. And after a good night’s sleep, we will be discussing those who mock Corgis. Cuz we feel like we’re being mocked.

    G’night
