Chetspeak on Sunday
“What a stench!” Bernie said in a low whisper, stench being a smell humans were capable of detecting but didn’t like. In the nation within, we have plenty of sounds we don’t like, but not really any smells. Smells are too big a world for simply liking or not liking, and besides, we get way too busy breaking down the smells, and breaking down the parts of the parts, and the parts of the parts of the parts! For example, here inside Cleotis’s crib we had big-time rotting smells, no longer a surprise to me in this city. You want a part? How about food? We had rotting fruit. How about parts of that? Rotting bananas and rotting pineapples. See the way this works? We also had rotting meat, rotting milk, rotting eggs – even humans never miss that last one. The rotting food part was actually a small part of the big smell picture, which was dominated by toilet back-up. It reminded me of a case we’d once worked involving rival septic tank companies owned by two dudes who hated each other. The ways they had of getting back at each other! But no time for that now. Sometimes the most important smells in our business are the ones that aren’t there, and this was one of those times; meaning death was not in the house.
Another quiet whisper from Bernie: “I think I smell rotten eggs.” That was Bernie: human to the max.

Parts, parts, parts, of parts!
I love Chet!

Good morning. What a perfect Chetspeak for Egg Day! Good job!
Mom managed to buy a big, hooked nose to go with her borrowed witch hat with the long purple hair for last night’s wedding reception. It was great! People who know her well actually did not recognize her!!!! Pop wore a long black robe and a scary mask. We all recognized him. Heh!
8:49 am on October 27th, 2013
Good morning all.
8:59 am on October 27th, 2013
Greetings!
Happy Egg Day to all!
I can’t believe the Cardinals won! Now we have a series!!
RIO! I missed you too yesterday. SDD responded to. Grizz and I went to see the film CAPTAIN PHILLIPS. Whew! That was some film! I think Tom Hanks could win his 3rd Oscar.
Any Nana updates?
To all under the quilt, I am sending healing thoughts to you.
8:59 am on October 27th, 2013
I had an egg this morning. Kat’s and Meashka’s were soft-boiled. Mine was raw, just like I like them.
I am on Day 3 or 4 (not sure how that works) post-Special Doc. Mom knows I don’t like to eat at this point. She will worry if i don’t get back to eating better by Tuesday or Wednesday. So therefore, this morning, I had just my egg, with no kibble underneath. Dog, i am starving.
I know I have been somewhat cryptic. This here blog has too much gloom and doom, and those are just not in my nature. So here is what I will say: last week, my Special Doc and Mom and Pop had to decide if i should drop the Special treatments, or get another surgery, or continue my treatments. When Mom asked me, i said “Plunder On”! That’s the way I roll. Now I have one more of those to go. I will try my best to get past my gagging and get some food in. Perhaps a critter?
9:25 am on October 27th, 2013
Goood morning, everyone! Chetspeak heh, heh, heh. Love Chetspeak. Love egg day (mom doesn’t love the smell, go figure). Rose: Captain Phillips sounds like a good film. Mom has sensitive ears so movies in a theatre are hard for her (she takes ear plugs EVERYWHERE! ) Dime: mom agrees with you. Since her surgery some things get to the eye teeth (canines) and say,”No way Jose”.
Sunday, mmmm, What kind of Sunday should we all have? We need help here.
9:30 am on October 27th, 2013
Dima – there is a whole back yard here just FULL of chipmunks, fuzz butts and some such. We try to discourage the Corgis from indulging in furry sushi, but if it will get you to eat, you just blur on over and think of it as a buffet.
Morning all.
Speaking of gloom and doom, we have to go see the Florida relatives today; Aunt Disease of the Week Drama Queen and Uncle Ichabod Crane’s Dumber Brother. We are going to a restaurant. That’s right – we will be out in PUBLIC with two of the most embarrassing people on the planet. In this house, we have a bet on how many times Aunt calls the waiter back to change her order. Her record is 5.
sigh.
At least we may have an entertaining anecdote later on.
Farewell……
9:50 am on October 27th, 2013
HOH: The film was excellent! It made Grizz and I even prouder of our Navy Seals, and all branches of our American military who put their lives on the line every day!
9:56 am on October 27th, 2013
Tupper’s Mama: my, my, my. Mom’s SIL and her matron of honor can beat that hands down. Shall we put them all together and see who wins? Embarassing and annoying!
10:00 am on October 27th, 2013
BTW: Staff, that quilt is beautiful!
RIO! I love the beautiful sunflowers. Your friend picked a very nice spot for the plant.
10:22 am on October 27th, 2013
I had a job this morning. Seeing that I was just sitting around with hands free, Ros and Mac decided I should groom them. It sounds terrible but their favorite grooming tool is a wire brush used to get paint chips off the clapboards. It gets their undercoat clumbs out.
I received giant licks on arms and hands from Ros. My glasses have been cleaned by Mac!
I am well loved (and clean).
To Dima and Tenzing, my twins. All of us will Plunder On! (I’ll leave the furry sushi to you both.)
10:26 am on October 27th, 2013
I have been called to duty. Since Mama Luna and her dog Belle Starr are focused on Nana Smooching I have been deployed to Melanie. My mission, which I immediately accepted, is to sit on Melanie so she will stay still and rest. Like my Mama, I’m a dog a certain weight, and my Lady says I was a born caregiver just like my mama. My resume included nursing Coach back to health a couple of years ago, taking care of pups and absorbing my Lady’s worry when W.L. was on his wanderabout. Pancho and Lefty insist in joining me—Melanie, I apologize in advance. Their caregiving resumes are very short, nonexistent some might say.
11:02 am on October 27th, 2013
Why I love Bernie? He is “human to the max.”
Dima: You and Chet are “dog to the max”. Love you both.
Melanie: Now that you are spit shined…Savannah is there to make sure you follow Plunderer’s orders and rest. Pancho and Lefty will provide entertainment.
Tupper’s Mama: Did you have a nice day in the clay yesterday? I think you are brave for going in public with your black sheep family. Most of us have some rather embarrassing members of the family and some of them is us. (Pogo derived)
Snow on the ground.
11:19 am on October 27th, 2013
Thanks for asking about me last night you guys. I am here.
Staff, Totally beautiful quilt!
Rio’s friend, We love the sunflowers!
What is a topiary? That is a new word for us.
grump, Dawson has snow.
Dima, We love you!
11:28 am on October 27th, 2013
Dima: I have snack of the Slim Jim variety under the quilt. I also have a deck of cards in case Dawson drops by to say hello. Word of warning—wear a few extra collars.
11:40 am on October 27th, 2013
Mr. Husky, so good to see you back! A topiary is a plant that is trimmed or created to have a special shape. Think Disneyworld and Mickey Mouse bushes.
Dima, today I am dedicating all my dainty licks to you, you, you.
Dawson, Pops wants to know what kind of cards you play when you go out to the games. No reason, he is just a curious sort.
11:43 am on October 27th, 2013
Tenzing,I’ll bet I can make short work of those Slim Jims. I am starving!
11:44 am on October 27th, 2013
Thanks, Macy and everyone. I will be tip top in no time.
11:52 am on October 27th, 2013
Go, Dima, go!
11:54 am on October 27th, 2013
Boxwoods are used frequently for topiary as well as some varieties of evergreens. They are trimmed gradually as the foliage fills in, so they take time to grow into the right shape. Barb had a boxwood shaped like a chicken. If you don’t keep them trimmed to shape they eventually look like a normal shrub.
12:05 pm on October 27th, 2013
Dima: Take your pick. We have nacho and original flavor.
12:10 pm on October 27th, 2013
Thanks Macy and Barb, ummm You can understand now why we don’t answer any gardening questions on the blog, but we could tell you everything you wanted to know about tumbleweeds.
12:25 pm on October 27th, 2013
MacyMinPin: Tell your pops that around here we play a game called frustration rummy. You have to get one set of 3 of a kind, then 2 sets of 3, then 1 set of 4 of a kind then 2 sets of 4 and on up to 6 (or 7) of a kind. You start with $2.50 in quarters which you can use to buy cards you need. We also play Hands and Feet which is one of the games my family play. Cribbage is played on occasion.
I was on a long winning streak in the States which stopped abruptly upon returning to Canada so if I visit the quilt, I will be wearing several neck warmers.
SiberH: We only have about 2 inches of snow.
1:01 pm on October 27th, 2013
Dawson, That is two more inches than I have. The sun is shining here and the two-leggeds can run around in t-shirts and shorts. gah
1:05 pm on October 27th, 2013
Siber H§ One of two insurance claims mom has ever made involved a tumbleweed and her Volvo. Scratched the heck outta her car, then the ins peeps raised her rates and it was her bro-in-law 🙁 Glad he is an ex…
1:19 pm on October 27th, 2013
Snow . . The Pack is wishing for snow. The two-leggeds? Not so much.
Savannah has been a great help. We are about to go upstairs with Grace and have some downtime. Pancho and Lefty are keeping Mac and Frank busy. Who knew they could fit into beaver costumes. At least I hope they are costumes.
I learned a new use for a word! “Twitching”
Twitching is used in England for bird watching.
1:44 pm on October 27th, 2013
Gooood word< Melanie. Twitching….. chirp chirp,,,,,
1:46 pm on October 27th, 2013

Melanie and Dawson are silly: Caffeine…for real? Wowser!
3:49 pm on October 27th, 2013
Home again, home again, jiggedy jig.
Well, it was strange, and it was embarrassing, but we survived. The worst part was when Aunt Disease of the Week decided to demonstrate her physical therapy moves for the Storyteller so he could “get as strong as she is”. Just the sound of this is bad enough, but her physical therapy was water based exercises – so she sits on a float board, crosses her ankles, raises both arms straight up over her head – the point being to balance by using core muscles. So, in the middle of the restaurant, she is demonstrating this in her chair and speaking in a loud voice about clenching butt muscles and holding your stomach in, etc.
We thought my poor father was going to crawl under the table. Uncle Dumb stressed over the menu forever, decided on which meal would have the least amount of carbs…”Well, I don’t want a sandwich cuz it has bread, and this comes with French fries, and that comes with rice pilaf, and I don’t want to have those carbs cuz I don’t want to have to take more insulin because I might get addicted to it”. Ummm – HUH?
But then he ordered clam chowder and had molten chocolate cake -because those apparently don’t have any carbs whatsoever.
Well, it was an experience. And one that we won’t have to repeat until next year.
But I do need caffeine here!
3:49 pm on October 27th, 2013
RIO! Now you are MIA from this here blog. I thought of you and Mr. Redbone Hound while Grizz and I were in Barnes and Noble. I saw a very large book about making different varieties of ‘shine. I tell you, Mick (the person, not the dog), makes some of the best ‘shine ever. Hope youse going to the Iditarod get to sample some!

The Broncos are ahead by 7 points right now.

For you or anyone – ever! …sniff!

Bird!…Well, she might try copying Yulia’s bird…sniff!…Because my friends birds all look like Ducks…heh!heh!

5:12 pm on October 27th, 2013
Well I had a can of chicken. Who knew cheicken could come in a can? Then i also had some grated cheese that mom was making.
Melanie, I am surprised that latte has so little caffeine compared to coffee. Mom sometimes drinks so much latte or mocha that she is bounbing off the walls, though notfor long.
Pop put up our storm windows today. That is a very strenuous job. They are each very heavy, and must be hooked on top and screwed on the bottom. But first, he must climb up and unscrew the screens. Then climb back up to clean the windows. Then up with those crazy heavy wooden storm windows. Mom holds the ladder and frets. There are 16 of these windows in the main house. Why do they do this you ask. One reason is that replacement windows cost too much. The other reason is that ours are original 1800s windows with the cool wavy glass.
5:12 pm on October 27th, 2013
GAH!…I’m faceless!…shudder!…Oh wait, it’s okay now….sneeze!
5:14 pm on October 27th, 2013
Ummm….Please forgive all of my typos.
5:15 pm on October 27th, 2013
Sneeze!…What typoz?….sniffle!
5:18 pm on October 27th, 2013
Dima, is the glass in your beautiful 1800’s windows thicker at the bottom than at the top?
5:20 pm on October 27th, 2013
T&G, Please make sure your mom does lunch with the aunt and uncle at least once a month. We look so forward to hearing about them. Mom is rofl.
5:22 pm on October 27th, 2013
Sammie, I don’t think so. But then, each pane is small. The windows are 4 over 4.
5:28 pm on October 27th, 2013
Dima: I didn’t see any typos.
I just went to check the ball game and the Bronco’s scored! That’s not the ball game I’m checking on. World Series in an hour and a half.
Rio: I googled Julia Brodskaya. Wow! Zow! Kapow!
The sun is out. The snow is melting. I’m going for a walk.
5:33 pm on October 27th, 2013
Yulia!…Not Julia…sniff!….Yes, she is amazing…grunt!
Walk!….We will take a walk right before the baseball game starts…snort!….Someone has to watch her great big delicious smelling lasagna right now…sniff!sniff!… It truly is a work of art….heh!heh!
5:34 pm on October 27th, 2013
Rio: tell your friend that artists must stretch out of their comfort zone in order to grow.
5:35 pm on October 27th, 2013
CHobbit!…grunt!
5:37 pm on October 27th, 2013
CHobbit!…You are going to hate this tree I betcha…sniff!…It took a lot of stretching, but towards the end my friend found her own Brodskaya style. By then it was too late…heh!heh!
5:56 pm on October 27th, 2013
Wow!….Sneeze!…Wow!….Dose Broncos of mine were down by 2 touchdowns, now da are ahead by one touchdown….eh!heh!heh!….sneeze!
5:56 pm on October 27th, 2013
It’s getting near Halloween. That means old horror movies!
Late 1930s and 1940s horror movies usually used electricity to create monsters. But after WWII, some monsters were created by radiation.
Hence . . “THEM”. A 1950s movie with giant ants. I watch this once a year.
Guess what I’m watching?
6:00 pm on October 27th, 2013
RIO! Holy $@&?!!! Ms. Brodskaya’s art is out of the world!
But I am very proud to own several of your friend’s pieces! Heh!
6:01 pm on October 27th, 2013
Rose!…grunt!
6:03 pm on October 27th, 2013
Sneeze!…Rose, dat Rio is upstairs waiting for da lasagnia to come out of da oven….eh!heh!heh!…I am down here watching dose Broncos kick butt….sneeze!
6:03 pm on October 27th, 2013
Beau: snuffle!
Melanie: Me and the Prof watched The Bride of Frankenstein last night?
6:12 pm on October 27th, 2013
Rose, I haven’t watched that one for years.
I have promised not to watch the Red Sox. I started watching the Patriots and they let a touch down happen in the first few minutes. I stopped watching, and they won.
I hope a certain pug keeps me updated on the game. At least after Beau’s game.
6:13 pm on October 27th, 2013
Melanie, Mom has seen “Them” many times.
Her favorite is Curse of the Demon. It is from that time period but has nothing to do with radiation…just one nasty demon.
6:17 pm on October 27th, 2013
Lasagna!….Wooooooo!….It is suppertime!…snort!
6:39 pm on October 27th, 2013
WELL!! Dad came home last night with a tiny mama kitty and 3 (that’s right…3) kittens. A friend couldn’t keep them and was very upset that a shelter might put them down. So, I now have a new sister and 3 baby brothers (along with all the other brothers and sisters I have.) I think Dad did it because Mom was talking about a dog rescue. They won’t try to find them a home because Mom won’t want to separate the 3 brothers. So far the names are Tabatha for the mom, the black kitten is Boomer, the shy smallest tabby is Eli and they can’t think of a name for the gray one (he’s the biggest of the three). They are already about 4 months old so not too tiny. Tabatha will be getting fixed (for some reason Mom thinks all of us were broken when she first adopted us) in a couple of weeks. The boys in a couple of months.
Wolfie, does your mom want another litter of kittens?

Mama say “Them” when she was just a pup – she is still freaked out by ants to this day. No kidding.
Howlers – as to your request that luncheons become a monthly event…NO! Aunt and Uncle are leaving for Florida in 6 days, and this year, they are not coming up for Christmas. Thank Dog. This is the same aunt who feels it necessary to discuss what bodily functions will be affected is she imbibes in any type of lactose product. Since she is no longer allowed to ask Mama if there is any dairy products in her cooking (Mama put her foot down on that one last year – the answers always no) Aunt Disease of the Week has now decided that she is allergic to eggs and to splenda. And trust me – you do NOT want to ask her what happens.
Poor Gramp – his mother was such a gentile lady, and they were brought up with manners – he simply does not understand how in the world his baby sister is so graceless in her later years.
Oh and the other event today – Aunt decided to discuss with the Storyteller how certain female body parts age faster than the rest of the body, thereby demonstrating the inevitable pull of gravity. She was telling him that her “bad back” made the donning of certain foundation garments more difficult as wayward body parts went astray. Trust us, this is rephrased in a much more delicate way than she put it. Mama rescued the Storyteller right before he went from merely pink to bright ketchup red.
We need substantially more time than one month to recover from these episodes.
6:49 pm on October 27th, 2013
Macy, Mom finally went to your Dad’s website and she wants to order 3 Lightweight Lockback Pink Case Camo Handle knives ($18.95 each.) She will bring cash when she comes to visit you and Barb next month and your Dad won’t have to ship them. Let me know if she got the name wrong.

BooBear – congratulations on your new family.
we think you should name the new grey guy “Granite”. Who knows why – just came to us when we read your description.
7:07 pm on October 27th, 2013
Sunday night dinner was superb, just like it’s supposed to be when the weather turns chilly. First, they had salads fresh from the still-producing garden. Then it was a delish pork roast of Berkshire pork from Caw Caw. And guess what was served with that pork? Yep! Straight out of Dishlickers: Rio’s friend’s accidental potatoes. Rio, they smelled wonderful, and Mom and Pop raved about them. But poor us…we had nary a bite.
7:09 pm on October 27th, 2013
BooBear, your mom and dad are saints. Mom wants another kitty, but T.C. Is haing nothing of it. Thanks for taking care of stranded families.
7:09 pm on October 27th, 2013
Kittens! I love kittens. If we spell ‘cat’ as ‘Kat’, does that make it cittens?
Anypaw, Smoke?
Getting ready to hike upstairs.

Howlers!….Those potaters are the hit of every holiday dinner now for my friend…heh!heh!…Glad you guys tried them and liked them!….Woooooo!

Go Red Sox!

Fellow Sibers, Thank You!! This is excellent news about Nana.
Granite is a great name. It was the name of Susan Butcher’s famous lead dog in the Iditarod. Granite led Susan and the team across the finish line in Nome to win the Iditarod several times.
BooBear, Congratulations on your new family members. Your folks are special.

********************** Fund Raising Announcement ***********************
Plunderers!…What would you guys say if I told you that we could sponsor all of the A-Team by the end of Feb 2014 for just a dollar a day?….snort!…Here is my idea: First each of us needs to team up with a partner either on this here blog or a partner in your non-blog life. Then each of you need to commit to saving just $1.00 a day or $14.00 per week per team for the next 18 weeks….snort!….By doing this you as a team will be able to sponsor One A-Team Member for $250.00 by the end of February….chuffle!
Math!….Here is the math behind the theory…snort!
250.00 / 2 = 125.00
125.00 / 18 = 6.94 (or 7.00 per week)
7 * 2 team members = 14
14 x 18 weeks = $252.00
16 A-Team members x 252.00 = $4000.00 – the Goal!
A-Team!… We will need Rebecca and AJ to give us the final A-Team member list, but even before we know which team member(s) we want to sponsor, we can all start our $1.00 a day saving accounts now…sniff!….Tomorrow is the first day of the start of 18 weeks….chuffle!….What do youse guys think??….snorkel!
7:53 pm on October 27th, 2013
Great Scott!
That is excellent Nana news. Thanks O’Howlers.

SiberH!….Woooo Hooo!…SiberH and I are going to Partner-Up to save 1.00 of our treatie money a day for 18 weeks…snort!…We will be able to sponsor one A-Team Member by the end of February…brrrrr!chuffle!
Teams!….If you get 4 teammates on your team, you could save only .50 a day and still sponsor one A-Team member!…snort!

Rio, I’m probably in. I also want to sponsor a checkpoint in honor of Gus so Mom has to do some budget survey to make sure she has money for both. Isn’t it $500 to sponsor a dog? Is that what you calculated? Sorry, I kinda skimmed your math breakdown.

Boo bear, congrats on the new family, or condolences, depending on your opinion of them. With one of them named Boomer, DO NOT name the other one Sooner, lest bullies pick on them. Order placed, merch ready to be picked up on Meeting Day. TYVM
