Chetspeak on Sunday

Bernie knocked. Right away I heard Iggy start up on the other side. How I’d missed that amazingly high-pitched yip-yip-yip yip-yip-yip, a yip-yip-yipping Iggy could sustain all night if he wanted, and he often did! But now it was saying Welcome home, buddy! Let’s do something fun! Like dig up old man Heydrich’s lawn, old man Heydrich being our neighbor on the other side. Dig it up so it stayed that way! What a brilliant idea, especially coming from Iggy.

“Chet! What do you think you’re doing?”

Uh-oh. Possibly standing on my back legs, pawing at the door? Maybe more like clawing into it, somewhat deeply? If that was really happening I got it under control and pronto.

– from SCENTS AND SENSIBILITY.

(And belated Happy Birthday to Sharon.)

It may be a little known fact that Ole Doc ran in the race when he was younger. He was a third or fourth or maybe even fifth string—-it maybe more, but we have no way of knowing given that numbers aren’t our favorite thing—team dog. He was a last minute replacement following the passing of Younger, one of the Giant’s main teammates. Doc had trained but not like Younger. He ran well, but not like Younger. Our Lady and the Giant figured Ole Doc would run the first few hundred miles and then he would likely be dropped and sent home. But he wasn’t dropped. He wasn’t sent home. No, Ole Doc ran all the way to Nome. When he returned home with the team, he got his rhyme from our Lady: Hickory dickory Doc, the most amazing sled dog. Before he came home, he ran to Nome, hickory dickory doc.

Then he retired from racing and discovered dog pillows and the couch—not necessarily in that order.

This has been Wee Nigel reporting atop Belle Starr while the foundation of our three tier reporting structure takes his morning nap.

BooBear, Linda, Nana and Dawson, remember the HOH’s mom’s face plant on 4th last year? It seems to be a tradition. Yesterday I did it in an alleyway between 2nd and 3rd. Nice to be consistent. Another set of “Alaska knees “.

Digging up old man Heydrich’s lawn so it stayed that way is one of Iggy’s (the fictional four-legged) best ideas ever! I have been missing Iggy’s yip-yip-yipping for a long time and can hardly wait for new adventures!

Hickory dickory Doc! It is great to know that the base of our triparite reporting team has the experience of running all the way to Nome and crossing under the burled arch.

    HOH: Please, no ouch 3!

This weekend is the Trapper’s Rendezvous, infamous scene of the frying pan throw contest, which I have missed the last three years due to being in Alaska, and today I am going to miss it again because it i0 degreesF with a 10 mph wind which makes it – 11F. I’m going to follow Ole Doc’s example and take a nap.

The raven’s have all fluffed up their feather’s against the cold and are looking fat. Here is a quilled one I found in Montana:

I stand corrected…I hope Rio’s Friend enjoys her margaritas today!

HOH: I’ll take one of each of those Libations!

    Ole Doc…what a dog!

Dawson: Are the frying pans cast iron skillets?
The quilled raven is beautiful! It makes me think of the beautiful quilling Rio’s Friend does. I am lucky and proud to have some of her beautiful quilled art in my apartment!

Wose: The frying pans are steel. Of course I think of Rio’s friend whenever I see quilling but the pieces I have collected from her through the Snowhook auctions are far superior to what I have seen elsewhere.
I do like this bicycle though:

Hello all. Cleaning the Hobbit Hotel for my guests’ arrival tomorrow. Did a 2-hour rescue of a pregnant cat last night. Girlfriend walked out on boyfriend leaving an 8-month old baby and 2 cats. Guy overwhelmed and surrendered the cats who are in other foster homes. No shots or alters, of course.

BELLE STARR: This dwarf donkey must think he’s a dog! Is he as cute as Wee Nigel?

While cleaning out the freezer I found a small package of green chili sauce made with Rio’s friend’s recipe. I’m eating some on my homemade baked beans which were a little spicy to begin with. Yeeeowww!!! 5 star hotness.
Here is the last quilling I bought at Snowhook auction. I sure do miss those auctions.

CHobbit: It’s like looking in a mirror. While Milady and the Giant were hauling the team to Fairbanks, we got a message from Luna on the Orher Side. We are not allowed to get a miniature anything. However…I don’t think just one more will hurt.

Rio! Auction! For us! You humble Mi’lady, you really do.

Coming home tonight there were two moose in my short driveway. A mama and her calf who took a good long time before deciding to amble down the street. Too dark for photos, darn it. Sadie was going crazy on the deck which is probably why they finally decided to move. Certainly my staring had no affect.
