Chetspeak on Sunday

“But then the mayor slid down the window and we got to talkin.’”

“About what?”

Nixon shrugged. That’s a human move I always watch for. It can mean lots of things. This time? Your call. “Wanted to know if I was named after Nixon. You know – the president.”

“I know,” Bernie said. “And are you?”

“Yup.”

“Your parents hated you?”

Nixon gave Bernie a long look, a look I’d seen many times. It meant someone had just realized that Bernie was the smartest human in the room, no news to me. “How’d you know?” Nixon said. “I was the fifth boy. Long about then they were hankerin’ for a girl. But – funny thing – turns out to be a big plus with the mayor.”

“He’s a Tricky Dick fan?” Bernie said.

“A secret fan,” said Nixon. “Just between him and me, what with the election coming up. On account of the name being so – what would you say?”

“Toxic.”

“Yeah, toxic with most people.”

“You can always change it,” Bernie said.

“Nope,” said Nixon. “It’s part of me.” He took out his dip, bit off another chew. “Maybe someday I’ll invade Cambodia.”

Good morning and Happy Egg Sunday and Chetspeak. Got a chuckle out of today’s post.

Bear, glad you made it thru the night unscathed!

Gloomy day here, but I am going out and about. There is an event outside of town today. Sort of a cross between garage sales, farmer’s market and craft/antique sales. Food truck will be scattered along the country roads as well. Should be fun.

I want it to be over Bee, but I am obsessed with it. I can’t stop watching the news. And I am truly concerned and scared about the aftermath.

Mom saw a bumper sticker that she thinks solve the whole election issue.
It read: Jimmy Buffett for President.

We are in the Barb/Bee camp on politics

And ever so grateful that BSD and Masquers and Nana are safe. Whew!

A beautiful autumn day here. We think it is the perfect day to do a tour of the local farm stands. We have discovered a new squash hybrid called “Honey Crisp Butternut” Oh My Dawg!

I think I will vote for Nancy Drew. I would like a female president. LOL

BMALand Sassy, How is your Autumn Blaze tree doing this year. I do remember you getting one don’t I?

Amalia, Butternut’s are one of my favorite squash. They are naturally sweet. I can’t imagine them being any sweeter. I planted them this year and only got two (sob) but two is better than none.

    There were 15 pumpkins!

Staff, you are close. I have an October Glory which turns a little later than Autumn Blaze, but is still the beautiful red color. I think they are both in the Red Maple family.

I think I will buy a squash today at the harvest sales. Now I am heading out.

We put butternut squash slices on the grill about a week ago. Oh my heavens were they sweet and wonderful.

We peel and cube butternut squash and roast it in the oven with a little olive oil and sea salt. The Honey Crisp was sweet, but it maintained its shape and texture more than a regular butternut.

Our other major discovery this year has been the Romanesco. Absolutely hooked on roasting that, or just nibbling it raw.

Our neighbor has a political sign on their front yard. It keeps disappearing. And NO we have NOTHING to do with it. We will be glad when the madness is over.

Our ballot came in the mail yesterday, so we will be returning it pronto.
    No more election worries here.
Thanks for all the concern. As I, Weatherkat, suspected it was not as bad in our vicinity as forecast (hence our decision to stay put). But we are concerned about ALR. Oregon got hit pretty hard.

Happy Sunday! No eggs for poor Howlers this morning. The hens are coming out of their molting but only Isabelle started laying so far.

I am so relieved to know that Nana is safe, but now I am worrit about ALR.

It is absolutely gorgeous here. We have clear, deep blue skies every day, with dayrime temps of 79 or 80. The ‘rents spend all day running, walking, biking, riding, hiking. Oh! And yesterday they tried out every machine in the new fitness center.

Too bad Mom still can’t lose the weight she gained during the down-sizing and move. She keeps enjoying her food and beer and wine. She says every day is a crlebration of our new life.

    Me too!
I am sick of the reality show election. Usually Canadians are a bit insulated from all the politics but not this time. The U.S. has become a laughing stock for many but I see nothing funny. My mind is made up and I hope my absentee ballot comes soon. The candidate of my heart is not on the ballot so I will vote with my head.

BMALS: Baye is stunning in that fabulous dress.

IT IS OVER! And we have enough left to have a respectable garage sale, but that is NOT going to happen. Tomorrow I go back and pack up the best things for our church resale shop. The rest will be the problem of the investor who bought the house.

Glad to hear Vesper is fitting in nicely.

Gah! I was posting on my phone last night, and my eyes have trouble seeing and my paws have trouble typing. I must read my last garbled post on my iPaw.

What it was supposed to say is that Momma and I are both disgusted by the politics this year. We have decided to ignore all (but the comedy). That means very little fb for me, Amigo, because every time I open it up, I am newly disgusted. Momma and I are busy reading …currently reading OFA’s Crying Wolf.

  35. BMALS
    8:25 am on October 17th, 2016

Oh, ignore! I should have figured that out! Thanks, Kat. I think that is good advice. Hope I can take it, because I get so angry that I want to defrind some people. My new philosophy-I no longer have time for STUPID in my life. I am trying to keep my trap shut till after the election and it all goes away.
