Chetspeak on Sunday

“Chet! Knock it off! I can’t hear myself think!”

And crazily enough, I couldn’t hear my own self think either. But what was there to think? That enormous bushy tail was the most annoying thing I’d seen in ages, and I’m sure you’d have felt the same. Did I mention how he was gazing right at me with his tiny squirrel eyes? Like … like he owned the place! Whoa! Who owned the place? I did! Chet the Jet owned the place!

“CHET! NO!

– from PAW AND ORDER.

Good morning, Bear and All! Chet IS the Jet!
We love it and egg day. (Mom dropped 3 eggs, lucky us!)

Maggie can identify with Chet on that one. Happy Chetspeak Sunday, everyone. We had our eggs, sunny side up.

Maureen O’Hara was 95 I believe, and John Wayne’s favorite leading lady. She lived a long life.

Amalia, I browned the chicken breast before putting it the crock pot, and I don’t think the texture was nearly as mushy doing it that way. The Moroccan spices mad the house smell wonderful all day – cumin, cinnamon, coriander and ginger.

My garden project for today is to finish tucking the beds in for the winter. You should never leave the ground bare to the elements. So I put down a layer of manure (10 5-gal buckets full of donkey, horse and alpaca poop), then a layer of spoiled hay, then a thin layer of top soil to hold it all down. Everything will “percolate” till spring and then get turned over. This is my therapy for the day!

That should be made, not mad.

T & G, Your comment reminds us of that old expression “wide eyed and bushy tailed”. Wonder about the origin of that one!

Maybe it is bright eyed and bushy tailed!

Good morning. Yesterday was our day to go into a pumpkin patch to pick out our pumpkin. We were all dressed for tromping around in the mud – Sam’s Mom, Boy, Girl, a friend, and me. Well, the pumpkin place turned into haunted house, face painting, a hayride, and other Halloween festivities with a $7 per person entrance fee. And yes, they did sell already-picked pumpkins, but we would have to pay first to be able to go in. Pumpkin patches have gone commercial. We ended up buying a nice one from Joe’s Vegetable Stand.

Here’s a link about possible origins of “bright eyed and bushy tailed.” It may have come from a story by Kipling about a mongoose.

    Good morning Chet and all.

Happy Sunday! Happy Chetspeak! Happy Egg Day!
Bushy tails are only good on huskies.
Barb, you are Gardener Extroadinaire. We will try to follow your example. Maybe.
Yesterday, Kat finally got to celebrate Karma Day. She went with the ‘rents to Pumpkin Palooza, where she was petted/patted and fawned over all afternoon. She even met a coven of witches, and immediately flopped down on the ground and rolled over for belly rubs. She had pumpkin snickerdoodles, which she shared with Mom and Pop and Godmom Leslie and Bob and Sandy and Savannah (Leslie’s “littles”).
Mom and Pop had lots of pumpkin ales and squash bisque and pulled pork nachos and pumpkin fries with sauce. Yummmm.
Barb, we just read about your neighbors’ terrible luck. So sad.

MP&LLM – oh, that is sad about the pumpkin patch. Guess they can’t expect a visit from the Great Pumpkin; he only comes to “sincere pumpkin patches”.

Barb – so sad about your neighbors.
But glad you liked the suggestion about browning meat before crocking.

Does anyone else have a favorite Maureen O’Hara movie? My top two are McClintock and Quiet Man. Both with John Wayne. They really did have a chemistry.

  13. Barb, Maggie and Lucy
    12:56 pm on October 25th, 2015

Mine would be Miracle on 34th Street.

MP&LLM, that would be way too much $$ to spend unless you were going for the day and planned to participate in multiple activities.

Howlers, sounds like a fun time, and the description of the food is making me hungry! Think I will grill some pork tenderloin for dinner.

My favorites Maureen OHara movies were McClintock and Miracle on 34th Street, so I am somewhere between Barb and Tupper’s Mom.

In the obit in today’s Washington Post, it observed that while she and John Wayne were very close friends, there was never a romantic aspect to the relationship. When once asked if he ever tried in that direction, her response was “he wouldn’t dare.” Pure Maureen O’Hara.

The Scnauzers here agree with Chet 100% on the subject of those bushy tailed usurpers and encroachers. The nerve of them coming right up to the windows to flaunt their abilities to dig about where they have no business intruding on the peace of the household! And it is just lucky for them that they can scurry up and over fences at the first sign of frenzied pursuit. We Schnauzers have been told we could take some lessons from…..er….kats. Not happening!

Rose, I haven’t seen most of her movies, but being such a classic movie fan, I am surprised that you haven’t seen many of them.

I have started Miss Julia Takes to the Highway (or something like that). It involved Sam and a Harley Davidson Road King. Should be a hoot!
