Chets, Plural

“Did you see this?” said Suzie. “They cloned Trakr, that hero dog from 9/11. They ended up with five Trakr pups.”

“Yeah?” said Bernie. He was doing something with the check book, never a good sign. “Why won’t these numbers ever come out the same?”

Suzie didn’t seem to hear. “Imagine a whole bunch of Chets,” she said.

The both looked at me. A whole bunch of Chets? What did that mean? Whatever it was, I suddenly found myself walking around in a small circle and then lying down, chin on the floor.

“Maybe for some people,” Bernie said, “but that’s not for us.”

My tail gave a thump, all on its own.

But think of it many Chets could possibly make your finances improve – so many more perps caught!

Well considering the checkbook situation, I should hope not! Trakr was a hero dog and I'm sure the pups are wonderfully clever too, but Chet you are just irreplaceable!

Who knows? I just remember all of the times Chet has jumped the fence to go after some she-dog. Someday Bernie may find a basket of little Chet-like puppies on his porch with a note stating Bernie's and Chet's responsibilities.

Yeah, you're one of a kind Chet, I like Bernie's wisdom on this.

Chet, remember that theory that the clone is (usually) never as good as the original?

Besides, didn't they break the mold after they made you???

I sure hope that theory can be disproved with the Trakr clones, though. Just think of the great good such super dogs can and probably will do esp. with a dedicated dog guardian such as Trakr's person. That guy's almost as much a hero as Bernie!
