Gooood morning, everyone! (and especially our Over-sleeping FA) Nice publicity prior to new releases 🙂
Have a talented Tuesday!

Thanks, HOH. A talented Tuesday it is.

Good morning all.

Chet! Great Slide Show!
Morning News: A Hole in the Sun? Gulp.
Johnny Depp to Retire? Sure…after the Dark Shadows and Lone Ranger Fiascoes.
The Royals will be pleased.
Good Morning, B. Where are you in your Travels With Charlie today?
10:13 am on July 30th, 2013
I like all Chet’s book covers and that slideshow reminds me that there is one I haven’t read yet. The Iggy Chronicles are due to be released next month. Volume One, anyways. Bring it on.
Tyb up top, being proud to be an American.
Cool floppy eared new FOC. I hope Buster finds his forever home real soon.

Charlie and I are headed to Bronte country in Yorkshire, England.
10:22 am on July 30th, 2013
B: Know you and Charlie appreciate the classics (hence the Bronte sisters), but how do ya’ll feel about a modern-classicesque (new word): “Rebecca” by Daphne du Maurier?

Butterflies here of different varieties show up at different times and go to different plants. Think we got one mid-frame today (before being eaten alive).

Good review. What is a “cozy mystery”. Is it one that is not extremely violent?
We have a little announcement to make. We would like you to welcome Sam (Sam, I Am) to our extended family. Kelly’s family had put a deposit on a Newf puppy about 3 months ago, before the litter even arrived. Then LBD came along, and they debated about whether or not to go thru with the puppy adventure. Ultimately common sense lost out and they brought their 10 week old Newfie home yesterday. No one got much sleep last night!

10:48 am on July 30th, 2013
Oops, trying again.

B&M: Tell family Sam I Am is soooo cute. We love him.

HOH: I see the butterfly but I can’t tell what kind it is.
Barb and Maggie: Welcome to SamIam.
Dad is stuck on bacon and eggs for breakfast. Every day. But don’t try to feed him leftovers for dinner!
10:57 am on July 30th, 2013
Welcome Sam! You look so Little. Well…That won’t last long. Heh.
Sharon’s Hounds: Beautiful photo of the Butterfly in the Lush Greenery.
Love the butterflies. The white ones follow us Everywhere in the summertime.
Dawson: Bacon & Eggs. Yummers! And that reminds me…it’s Time for Breakfast.

A slide show to go along with an excellent book review is a very clever idea. We like it.
Johnny Depp has been in Albuquerque making another movie. Streets downtown have been closed off for filming. The NM Tourist Board thought NM would get a lot of publicity with the release of the Long Ranger. There is only one big problem…no one went to see the movie.
What a cute Newf puppy!
11:21 am on July 30th, 2013
Siber: Mom was one of those that didn’t see the movie.
11:25 am on July 30th, 2013
This should be interesting. I’m on the go phone.
First, love the slideshow, can a movie be far behind?
Also, I’m aware that I don’t always use the correct grammar, but this is a review!
“dogs”? It’s “dog’s”.
Need to go. Errands . .

Good Morning, Good Morning
We’ve talked the whole night through
Good Morning, Good Morning
To you!
Oh, how we envy Bee and Charlie. Mama would love to go to England and tour all the Arthurian sites – Merlin’s Cave, Tintagel, the whole thing.
And she loves the Bronte sisters too.
SamIAm is going to be a wonderful addition to the household. We bet he and Joey will bond and be lifelong friends.
Dawson – the Storyteller has cereal and fruit for breakfast, day in, day out. Nothing will deter him from that course. But heaven forbid he should eat a leftover dinner. Or even have the same dinner (say, hamburgers for instance) more than once in a 10 day stretch. The world would end.
And by the way – we also love “Rebecca” – and would love to be the nameless narrator so that we could instill some bulldozer attitude in her.

We hope you are right T & G, about Joey and Sam. Last night he was a little bent out of shape over Sam getting too much of his attention.
There was a name debate yesterday before they decided on Sam. They were also considering Huck and Finn. They were afraid if they went with Huck that people might think the were yelling something else. Finn was the 2nd choice, but all other Newfs have had 3 letter names. First was Max 15 years ago, then Joe who passed last year, Gus, and now Sam.
He has had 2 baths already. Last night at 11:00 he pooped in his crate, then stepped in it and generally made a mess. This morning Kelly thought she could brush her teeth before taking him out. Wrong! He needed to go as soon as he woke up, so in that 2 minutes, he peed on the floor and then layed down in it.
Barb told Kelly she was being very cheerful about it after 4 hours sleep. She laughed and said she knew what she was in for.

Tupper&Gilly: We would Love to have a Different Meal every day of the month, but it doesn’t seem to work out that way. Leftovers are a menu staple. The good news is they can be Disguised to look like something new. Would this work for the Storyteller? Nah. Probably not. He is much too clever to be fooled by such a simple ploy.

Our sympathies and full understanding go out to Kelly, meanwhile Teddy says to say hello to his newest blog friend (who is actually a couple of days older than he is). We have been quite luckly with Teddy in a number of respects; while there have been a few “accidents” in the house, none as severe as SamIam has experienced, and we are starting to get the hang of “the need to go outside” thing. Teddy also greatly enjoys meeting people (and getting adored) and has now met most of the neighborhood dogs. He is walking well on a leash for a pup of his age, and did over a mile yesterday (in three separate walks). Also, he sleeps through eight hours at night, which is just great, although our morning routines are starting at about 5:45 now, which is a bit uncivilized, at least for us. Just a couple of minor issues — the first being teething and the second concerns his occasional bursts of high energy, non-stop activity, which when they occur we have started to affectionately refer to him as “devil dog.” Get the picture.
On the horticulture front, our tomatoes are doing great. The Cherokee Purple have been fantastic, and the one new varietal that we tried this year that has been particularly yummy (and relatively non-acidic which is also nice) is called Virginia Sweet. It is a large tomato, more yellow and green than red, but a real treasure.

Smiling here. AS SOON AS Puppies wake up? They need to go OUT! Be it a nap or night sleeping.
Much like women of a particular age . .
HELLO to SamIam.
Wöökie’s Dad, we had the tornado twins. Mac and Ros . . They were mechanical dogs in that anything that the Raven was doing was of interest, and should be helped with.
Mattie, on the other paw, ate most of the bannister when she was teething.

The latest missive from Kandy’s near-city farm.
THE THINGS YOU SEE WHEN YOU LIVE ON A FARM
Bodacious my bull is now 6 months old and a very handsome fellow. Being a young bull he is ALWAYS in the mood for love and is always trying it on with the cows. Trouble is he’s not quite tall enough to hit the target yet so the girls just think he’s annoying and run him off. Yesterday morning he got creative. The girls were LAYING DOWN content and chewing their cud staring off into nowhere as happy cows do and Bo was grazing nearby. He nonchalantly grazed closer and closer and the girls were not paying him any notice. When he got close enough he tried to mount Raven, she jumped up and looked at him like he was crazy. He then tried it with Buttermilk, she leaped up and threw her head and tried to hit him with her horns. He was not deterred. He trotted over to ElliMay and tried it with her. She jumped up, spun around and smacked him with her head. By this time all 3 Jerseys were standing in a row glaring at him and ready to kick his ass.

Welcome to Sam I Am! He is adorable. HOH, it is not just Newf Puppies that are cute; ALL puppies are cute! Speaking of which, that little Shih Tzu that the ‘rents found is still at the shelter. She is not even lut on “the floor” where she’d be seen, because they are so full. 🙁
Macy, we can’t view your link on our iPaw…will have to wait for Mom to let us on the big computer.
Mom and Pop eat the same thing most every morning too: yogurt. When Mom is able to chew again, she will put fruit in her yogurt. In the meantime, it is plain. We get to lick the bowls and the spoons, so we aren’t complaining.
1:41 pm on July 30th, 2013
Bodacious is no Ferdinand!
Had a friend, before our Newf days, that had a Great Dane puppy. She was so proud of this puppy. He never chewed.
When he was 9 months old she moved a chair that had been next to the window and found that said “wonderful pup” had destroyed an entire windowsill.
1:46 pm on July 30th, 2013
Some “not to be named” puppies modified all our breakfast nook window ledges. Then I tried to saw off the damage, which looks worse than what the pups did. Replacing that mess was high on my list of things to fix when the house was paid off. Of course, I thought we would have jobs…
The lumpy bump is not so red or tender, but still there. One pill is every 12 hours and one is every 8 hours, and neither is being taken on time, even though I write it down.
Little Black Sambo, what a cutie!
Unlike the Storyteller, I would be quite happy with a meal of the day, same every week. I may have mentioned that I am not an adventurous eater. For lunch today, my favorite, meatloaf with Miracle Whip on white bread. heh-heh
2:09 pm on July 30th, 2013
Heh, heh, heh. Little black Sambo…an Indian child with a tiger…BUT in So. Cal restaurants of that name…it had to change because of “Racecism”.

Hounds: Little Black Sambo Tiger Tale always reminds us of Pancakes!
2:28 pm on July 30th, 2013
Barb said she read Little Black Sambo as a child and had no idea it would some day be removed from shelves due to “racism”. Barb just thought it was clever of the little boy to get the tigers to turn themselves into butter, by chasing each other around the tree. If it is not demeaning or malicious, is it still racism? Pondering.
We will tell Sammy that Teddy says hello. Barb says she can identify with “devil dog”. I have no clue what she is talking about! That teething thing will go on for a long time. Baby teeth come out and adult teeth grow in at around 4 months. Seems like it settles down a little after that. Gus chewed up the base of several big columns that are in the great room area at Kelly’s house. They had to have a carpenter come in and rebuild them.
2:28 pm on July 30th, 2013
Tigers racing around a tree to make butter…?
2:31 pm on July 30th, 2013
Macy – when Mama met the Storyteller, he was so used to bad food, he wouldn’t even try many things. Apparently his mother and other women in his life were hopeless cooks. Tuna salad was a staple in Mama’s family, but the Storyteller refused to even consider being in the same room with it. Until the day Mama insisted that he at least try it.
Now he asks for it on a regular basis. Same thing happened with stuffing, anything creamed, many veggies, eggs that were not fried-over easy, grilled cheese, any kind of casserole, beans that were not baked etc.,etc.
So, it really is her own dam fault that the Storyteller is now so spoiled. She should have just left well enough alone and allowed him to live on tomato soup and ham sandwiches.
Oh, and she had a ball watching the giraffes. But now it’s back to the work table – time’s a’wastin.
2:32 pm on July 30th, 2013

Teddy, when I was a baby, I loved to chew my nylabone. Morning, noon, and night. Momma said it saved all of her antiques.

Kat, Mom had a dog that chewed on nylabones his entire life and he never had to have his teeth cleaned. I don’t like them, but mom wishes I did.

HOH, As Barb remembers the story from 60 years ago, the little boy who was chased by the tigers got them to grab each other’s tails and go faster and faster around a tree until they turned to butter. Barb has an mental image from her story book of 3 tigers. For some reason she thinks of pancakes, too. Perhaps they served them over pancakes at the end of the book.

5:31 pm on July 30th, 2013
Ok, we haven’t had anything to say on this subject today, but now the radical is going to get on her soapbox.
The book written for children had NOTHING to do with racism. And the book is actually still very popular today, although it has been republished with new names, such as “The Boy and the Tigers”, or “The Story of Little Babaji”.
The racism came in with some of the illustrations that appeared in the most popular version about 60 years ago. Sambo, although East Indian was pictured as an exceptionally black African child with overemphasized lips and unkempt hair. It was those illustrations that began the use of the term “Black Sambo” or “Sambo” for dark skinned people in a derogatory way. Just as any other word that is determined by some human to be “bad” (think “bitch” – once merely the term for a female dog, now a curse word, an insult, and a word that will get a child’s mouth washed out with soap), now the name “Sambo” had a negative connotation.
When the restaurants were started by two partners named Sam and Bo, they thought the name was cute, But they made the mistake of decorating the restaurants in the manner of the original illustrations, thereby offending a large group of people who did not wish to be thought of in that stereotypical manner. Had they simply named the restaurant Sambo’s House of Pancakes, and used better sense in decoration, they might just have been fine.
The children’s story is not racist. And it’s a shame that using the name as a slur changed the way people view the book. Most people will never read the original, and may not even know the story of a little boy being wise enough to trade his colorful clothes for his safety, all because someone thought it funny to use the name as a pejorative.
Ok, getting off the soapbox now.

Beautiful picture, Bee.
Thanks for the link for the story, Rio.
Well put, Amalia. We did not know the story of the restaurants or the name Sambo used as a slur. Barb just remembers the story from her childhood, and it was a favorite when she was about 7 or 8 years old. She grew up in a home that was never racist, and was very open minded about other races and religions. She is always surprised when she hears these stories about narrow minded or inappropriate people.

Barb, Our garlic pretzels are similar, but not the same as the Lurker pretzels. We have not been allowed to open Linda’s pretzels yet, because Mom wants to wait until she can enjoy eating with both sides of her mouth. She goes for that crown tomorrow, and she thinks she will be allowed to chew after that. She has eaten pasta (ravioli/tortellini/macaroni) the past 5 out of 7 days. 🙁

Doubt!….Not really, not with someone dying on the show the very first episode…heh!heh!…Too over the top. Now with all the slinky goings on its pretty obvious that the show is not Real as in Reality…sniff!…But I want to see how far they will take this thing…chorkel!
10:45 pm on July 30th, 2013
Real?!…Or Reality?…heh!heh!…I have a theory. This is a “real” Reality show but they have put actors and actresses in with Real People…snort!…And like a certain Jim Carey movie they, The Producers as they are called, have control over the environment. Not hard to do with some big bucks….snort!…The trick is to figure out who are the real people who are actually playing a game of survival, and who are the paid actors…snuffle!…It is now getting interesting. Or I could be totally wrong and they are all bad actors…heh!heh!
