Chet And Bernie In Action: From A Cat Was Involved
“We,” said Bernie, “meaning you, have a little problem here. This particular Audi—yellow with pink interior, the only one in the Valley—happens to belong to a friend. So if you’ll just get it all nicely reassembled we’ll be taking it off your hands.”
The longhaired dude’s mouth opened and closed, opened again. That was a sign of human confusion, something I enjoy seeing from time to time, maybe bad of me. And for sure bad this time, because I was so caught up in my enjoyment that I almost didn’t hear a quiet little sound from behind, the sound an opening toolshed door might make.
I wheeled around real quick and saw the other thicknecked longhaired dude, the gigantic one, charging toward us, a big steel wrench raised high. Bernie started to turn, but too late. The massive dude swung the wrench down, right on the back of Bernie’s—

First!…Had to get up early to send my friend off to the busy-damned-place this morning!…grunt!…I see Wookie beat me at getting up early…heh!heh!

Spence: What a terrible place to stop the story. Have I ever mentioned that I detest cliff-hangers?
Good morning all. (Has everyone been able to download ACWI?)

Hey there Rio! I hope Wookie is finding good bargains.

Bargains!…How can anyone find anything at 4:00am…grunt!

LOL! That’s a good point.
10:10 am on August 25th, 2012
I totally agree. The nurse came at 8:30 to sign Dan up and I hadn’t had my cocoa yet.
Whew, all is now settled.
Riö, You were right. That is not an episode but a teaser asking for money. It is a SAG-AFTRA New Media production and every single person there knew they were doing it for glory not money.
So they need some start up cash to pay for make up, actors, camera people, directors, editors and such. I think they will be going on kickstarter or another site like that.
They will have at least one more promo. Not sure when they are doing that.
I am headed down the hills to do some errands. I hope the wi-fi thieves aren’t working when Wose and Prof meet Golinka and Storyteller.

Good morning, y’all! Sorry I never made it back last night — blame Mom, I do!
Anyway, Melanie, everyone last night was right. Two-a-days are practices twice a day getting ready for football season. Most schools have those in the summer before school starts, but Dad coaches at a boarding school, so they can’t start until the kids arrive for the beginning of the school year. Which means that all week long, Dad had practice at 6 a.m., then he changed into his Army uniform and taught school all day, then he changed again for another practice, and then he would get home at 6:30 or so. Except last night, when he had duty on top of that, so he didn’t get home until after 9 o’clock! And today they have Saturday classes, so he is working again today. And did I mention that the kids started reporting last Friday, so he’s worked every day since then? He’s supposed to get home about 1 o’clock this afternoon — I think I might have to help him take a nap!!!

Waiting for Wose
Crowds are already pouring in. Hope she can find us. Wish I had a pink sparkly collar to wear!

Oooooh, T&G — I forgot today is the big day! How fun!!!

Excitement!…I can feel the excitement in the air as Rose sneaks up on Golinka from behind the fried dough place…sniff!

This is as hard as waiting for OFA to show up.
We are all on pins and needles. What if Wose is waylaid by a rogue fried pickle?
10:57 am on August 25th, 2012
Had a good night’s sleep and woke up to my second birthday. Most people have just one, so that always makes me feel special. It works like this – I was born at five minutes to midnight according to my mother, and the newspaper announcement said that. However, my birth certificate shows five minutes after midnight on the 25th. Add that to the fact that my mom desperately did not want me born on the anniversary of the day her mother died, we live with the slight taste of possible mendacity here. As I told mom, I was there at the time, but wasn’t paying attention to the clock. She did convince the Social Security Administration that I was born on the 24th. Only one person knows for sure. I’ll just go on celebrating both.

AWK,
I have to go to the quilt shop and sew all day today. Dawson has given me a deadline to return to the ‘rents so I have to do everything in a little less time. I am glad to hear that the Royals mom and pop are having a good show, perp’s excluded. I will return in the evening.
Alice was in the safe closet most of the night. We had thunderstorms till 8 a.m. She was not amused. She will be howling after I leave, I know it. Poor kitty.
Have a good day everyone. I know I will.

Rio: Yep, it’s a military boarding school for 7th-12th grades. Dad may be retired from the Army, but he still wears the same clothes every day. It doesn’t take much thinking for him to get ready in the morning!
11:03 am on August 25th, 2012
T&G: Speaking of perps, one time when Mom was little, she and a friend were playing in the friend’s backyard. There was a commotion and they looked at the fence just in time to see a perp climbing over. He ran through the yard and over the next fence. And then came the police doing the same thing. It was pretty scary — but exciting at the same time! I wonder if that’s where Mom’s love of mysteries started? I just wish I’d been there — I would’ve nabbed that perp for sure!!!
11:13 am on August 25th, 2012
Glad to hear the art show is going well for the Royals. They even have cops and perps for entertainment.
T&G No, there will not be a wedding. The Rockies lost yesterday by doing something they are very good at…blowing a lead.
Hope Rose will be arriving soon.
Happy Birthday again, Terry

WOSE IS HERE!!!
She is beautiful and the Prof is a very nice man. They both said they are city folk and get this – they have NEVER been to a fair. Any fair. They were afraid that it would just be surrounded by “hillbillies with animals”. So they are pleasantly surprised and are now off having fun touring all the exhibit buildings. We will get pics when they come back, loaded down with a whole new kind of plunder
12:36 pm on August 25th, 2012
I’ve never been to a fair, either. 🙁 The last time Mom and Dad went back to Iowa, they went to the fair, but I didn’t get to go on the trip with them. But Mom was in 4-H, and she used to show at both the county fair and the state fair when she lived in Iowa. She LOVED it. And Dad never showed, but he loved going to see everything. I hope Wose and the Prof and everyone else is having a great time at the fair!!!
12:59 pm on August 25th, 2012
T&G: WoooHooo! Rose has arrived at the fair! Can’t wait to see pictures.
Melanie: Clarkson’s Munchies promo is superb! It looks very professional. I did see the donation button and have made a contribution to the cause. Kudos to the the terrific trio and the rest of the cast.
Terry: Do you have 2 cakes too?
1:03 pm on August 25th, 2012
Riö & Siber: It may have been my fault the team lost yesterday. It is a possibility I jinxed the game by predicting victory too soon. That thought did flash through my mind as my paw hit the submit comment.
1:11 pm on August 25th, 2012
Thanks to those who can contribute.
Terry, does this mean you are now 130 years old?
My sisters birthday was Thursday. As a gift I am letting her now be the eldest sister.
Kirby T., are there that many hours in the day??
Hi T&G, tell your parents we miss them over here. Take pictures of Wose and the Prof.
Nap time.
1:12 pm on August 25th, 2012
No, Masquers, You didn’t jinx the Rockies. They don’t need any help when it comes to losing ballgames. sigh
2:37 pm on August 25th, 2012
Melanie: I’m not sure how many hours are in a day — it’s hard to keep track when you’re napping!
3:12 pm on August 25th, 2012
Having read ACWI you would think one would be prepared for the scene described, but I was not! It was like the first time all over again.
Hey, Kirby, I’m with you…napping is an important part of the job!
Staff: Poor Alice…first the storm…now you gone all day. I hope she’ll manage on her own. Is Abbie any help at all?
Wose: Waiting for photos from the fair!

Kirby T. It’s GLAD!
OTAS is VERY protective of GLAD. We were in a pond. She was only up to her hips. We had life preserver and were ready to jump in the water and any time.
She’s the only daughter I have as of yet, and I’m not letting ANYTHING happen to her!
Oh . . my . . I just saw Masquers link. Wow . . . sad.

The tribute to Armstrong makes me sad, but it is perfect. The one of Rose and the Prof. makes me happy. That is a good photo of both of them. I hope they are having a good time, and I bet they are.

5:16 pm on August 25th, 2012
Hello there, everyone!
Well, the Prof and I made it to the fair! This is the first time ever that we have been to a fair, since both of us were born and raised in the city. Lots of fried food…Oreos, elephant ears, dough, and pickles…Rio, the Prof took a picture for you. As soon as we figure out how to post it, you see it on the blog.
Thanks to the great instructions T&G gave me, we were able to find the Royal Mum and the Storyteller. I saw a bear from the outside of the building, and I knew we were in the right place!
What wonderful people the Royals are. Leonard is so gracious and regal, and it was like seeing an old friend when I introduced myself to Golinka . She is wonderful….warm, and loving, and beautiful! I was so excited to have my first Plunderer meeting !
And such beautiful jewelry, pottery, and of course bears! While the Prof and I were there, several people were making purchases.
So much food, too! While we did not have fried pickles, I did enjoy some fried dough! Why is it that food that is so bad for you taste so good. We also got a look at fried spaghetti and meatballs on a stick, but it was a little too early in the morning for that!
All in all it was a fun day, and the Prof and I got to meet the Storyteller and Golinka! How cool is that?
5:19 pm on August 25th, 2012
Bear, you have an excellent eye! That is in fact, a handful of bears!
5:22 pm on August 25th, 2012
Rebecca, fortunately, there were no arrests in the Royal booth. I think the Prof and I gave the troopers the slip. 🙂
Belle Starr and all the rest of youse guy, you are making me blush!

Hey Everybody!
We just now got our iPaw back. It was with Mom at that office she is refurbing. That project is now complete!!!! YAY!!! (well, if not quite complete, it is ready enough to reopen the office).
OMD!!!!! Kirby’s link is a tragically sad story. Just think…GLAD posed in water too!!!! Thank Dog she was fine.
Melanie, thanks for posting both great pictures. What a fitting tribute to Neil Armstrong. Sniff. And Wose and the Prof standing in Golinka’s and the Storyteller’s booth is fabulous. Looks like Wose is buying some bears.
5:49 pm on August 25th, 2012
Yippeee!….Rose and the Prof made it to Golinka’s booth!….Wooooo!….Rose, the Prof looks like a young Brian Cranston (of Breaking Bad)…wow!wow!…He isn’t a chemistry buff, is he?…heh!
5:49 pm on August 25th, 2012
Rose!…You are a real cutie pie….slurrrrp!
5:51 pm on August 25th, 2012
Rose!…How many Bears did you buy there anyways??…heh!…I wonder if Golinka had to close up shop after those two left with all her stuff…snorkel!
6:07 pm on August 25th, 2012
Armstrong!…Some of youse guys might remember the story my friend wrote many moons ago in a college english course that the teacher read out loud to the class. He said he wished he had written it. One of the best compliments she ever got about her crap writting…heh!… Actually now that I think of it she didn’t let me share that story, did she? Anyways, the point being, it was written about the first moon-walk and her experience that night….wheeze!…Maybe I can find that old thing and re-type it without her knowing….wuffle!
6:32 pm on August 25th, 2012
Story!…I FOUND IT!….woooo!…Now I just have to re-type it correctly…heh!…This is the actual copy with the teachers notes on it..wow!
6:34 pm on August 25th, 2012
Keep typing, Rio. Remember? I asked a long time ago to read it.
6:58 pm on August 25th, 2012
SiberH!…wheeze!…I am still typing!….grunt!
7:06 pm on August 25th, 2012
Wose, you didn’t tell us that the prof was so handsome! Almost as handsome as dad.
We think you need a new avatar! The one you have does not do you justice.
7:25 pm on August 25th, 2012
Rio! You are making me blush all over again. Prof thanks you for the compliment. He is not a chemistry bluff, especially not of the kind in Breaking Bad! Heh!
The Storyteller wrapped so many bears for me, I hope they had more to re- stock the shelves with.
7:27 pm on August 25th, 2012
Wolfie, the Prof is a cutie!
7:27 pm on August 25th, 2012
Rio! Speaking of the infamous Mr. White…he is bearing a strong resemblance to Mike and Gus of late. I will be having that first episodes special breakfast tomorrow morning.
Waiting for your Friend’s moon-landing story.

ummm The Good Boy is for Rio’s typing skills.
7:30 pm on August 25th, 2012
Whoooppie! Another Plunderer meeting! And what a great photo of Wose and the Pwof!
So sad to hear about Neil Armstrong. While Rio is still typing his friend’s story, I’ll tell a quick one about Mom. She was in junior high when they did the first moon walk. Her family was living in California then, so that summer they took a month-long camping trip up the interior of California, Oregon and Washington, into Canada, then back down the coast. Mom and her brothers kept getting sick — no sooner would one get well then another would pop up with it. On the day of the moon walk, they were staying with Grandma’s aunt and uncle in Bellingham, Wash. Everyone was watching the tv and Mom’s brother was getting sicker and sicker. Grandma told the poor kid just to wait until they saw the moonwalk, then they’d take him to the doctor!
7:36 pm on August 25th, 2012
Rose: You and Prof are indeed a dashing couple. Nick and Nora in The Thin Man series comes to mind.
B: Pont du Diable: An interesting name. I would like to hear the background story of this wine. Something to do with a bridge to the devil?
Kirby: Not a good memory of that historic event for your mom’s brother!
7:48 pm on August 25th, 2012
Masquers, you are too kind!
Very sad news about Neil Armstrong, a TRUE American hero!
Rio, very excited to read your friend’s story.
Kirby, I didn’t think a photo of the Prof and I would create such a sensation! Thanks for your kind words.
8:01 pm on August 25th, 2012
Masquers: Pont Valentre near Cahors, France, took 70 years to build from 1308 to 1378. The folk legend is that the mason made a pact with the devil so that it could be completed. 500 years later masons imprisoned the devil and put on one of the towers. (They made a sculpture of him.) Here’s a link to pictures.

Hello and Goodnight, Had a bit of a problem with youtube and too many cooks and people being upset and so I just did it myself. There is now a channel just for the web series and it doesn’t have my mother’s name on it. snicker.
I will read Riö’s friend’s story tomorrow and look at B.Stover’s link.
I hope C.HobbitHarris is over her cold. I hope Bella is over her cold. I’m glad Dima is okay, but I’m fading fast.

Wose: It is great that you and the Professor took time to go to the fair and meet with Golinka and Storyteller. Thanks for letting Melanie post your picture. You look very happy there amongst all the bears. I knew those were bears in your hand!
8:30 pm on August 25th, 2012
Well, having finally woken up here after our late night fabric shopping spree, it seems like so much is happening on the blog. Best of all, the longmeeting (with a beautiful photo as proof) of the long-awaited meeting between Wose and the Prof and Golinka and the Story Teller. Just sorry we couldn’t all be there as well.
And sorry about Neil Armstrong. My dad remembers watching the moon walk very well. I think one of his secret ambitions was to be an astronaut at one time, but there isn’t much need for lawyers in space (although he at least thinks Space Law is fun).

Whew!…I think I finally have it all copied down just the way she wrote it many many moons ago…snort!…The assignment was to write a story about an event that happened when she was a kid…grunt!…She is afraid to share this as it is a very special story which is near and dear to her heart, so please do not make fun of it…wuffle!
Briding The Distance
As we sat watching television, I was amazed, not so much at what we were watching, although it was an exciting event, as at the fact that I was allowed to be there at all. My brother usually avoided my company at all costs, but this night was different. He seemed not to mind my presence; he actually wanted me there. Maybe he needed proof that what he was watching really was happening, and I was a convenient witness. No matter. I was thrilled to be sitting next to him.
Even at nine years old, I could not recall ever being alone with him for any great amount of time. He had many devious ways of eluding me when he set off on his adventures. Like hiding my shoes and socks, or waiting until I had gone to the bathroom. Sometimes his tricks did not work and would happily follow right behind him, as close as a foot away. Inevitably he would turn around in mid-stride, bump into me and yell at me to go home. Or just say, “I’m going to Davy’s.” Davy was a mean boy and I was afraid of him, so this usually was enough to get rid of me.
Over the years I came to realize he just didn’t want me around, and I gradually quit trying to follow him all over our forty-acre farm. The only other person left to play with was my little sister. She was a difficult child to be with. If she wasn’t throwing temper tantrums, she was tattling on me and my brother.
My sister and I were not allowed in my brother’s bedroom for fear we might discover the deep dark secrets he kept there. On only one occasion he allowed us to enter this mysterious room. He invited us in, and began pulling hidden boxes from under his bed. As the boxes were opened revealing the treasures within, he announced that he would sell some of them if the price was right. Apparently he desired a model rocket which required more money than he could get from his weekly allowance.
You see, my brother had a passion for building Estes Rockets. He would spend hours, sometimes days, creating beautiful projectiles that he shot into the air. A couple of the larger rockets had a spot in the tubular body made of clear plastic. By taking the top off he was able to drop unfortunate creatures inside the rocket, trapping them in the see-through room. Many grasshoppers had death-defying journeys they never fully recovered from.
I was allowed to chase the rockets after they were launched. This was not an easy task. Inside each rocket was a parachute that would erupt from the body shortly after takeoff. If it happened to be a little bit breezy that day, I would find myself running very long distances to retrieve the precious spacecraft.
When the sale was over, he had gotten rid of his unwanted “valuables” and now possessed the contents of our piggy banks. We, on the other hand, had acquired all sorts of incredible things, but we made the mistake of showing mommy. “He gave you girls all of this stuff?” she asked incredulously.
“No, he let us buy it.” My little sister offered, not knowing that we would have to give back every single treasure, and my brother would be forced to restore our piggy banks to their original owners.
Recalling my brother’s attitude toward me, I felt even more in awe on this particular night when he wanted me to watch television with him. As events unfolded before us and his excitement grew, I was pulled into his world of imagination and adventure. He gave me soda crackers and poured us each a glass of pop. “We won’t drink or eat until they land,” he commanded. I felt very important, sitting on the edge of the couch next to my favorite person in the whole world, pop in one hand and crackers in the other, waiting for that glorious moment when together we would toast the brave men as they landed on the moon.
When the Eagle did land, my brother and I jumped up and down with joy. We knocked our glasses together spilling pop on the couch, and spit cracker crumbs on each other as we yelled out loud.
We camped out that night in the backyard. Taking turns we peered through his telescope, straining to see any signs of life on the moon. All we could see were craters, but we imagined we saw the space ship and the flag waving in the non-existent wind.
I have never felt as close to my brother as I did that evening. Our paths seem parallel, intersecting only briefly on holidays. There has never been another opportunity for the two of us to share a special time together. Cars and girls quickly replaced his passion for Estes Rockets, and I could no longer hope to join him in his ventures.

Drat!…I posted the story, but it is “awaiting Moderation”…grump!…Now we have to go for our walk. Maybe it will be here when we get back….grumble!sniff!
Title!…If it does show up the title is Bridging The Distance not ‘Briding The Distance’…grump! …Always something spelled wrong no matter how much you look at it…growl!

B: Stunning architecture. I like the story of the deal that was made with the devil and then the tables being turned on him.
Wookie: Even with your nap you must be one tired doggy.

Riö: If you mentioned footwear it’s a lost cause.

Rio, If the story gets lost in moderation, maybe you could post it on dishlickers.
9:41 pm on August 25th, 2012
Siber-H: That’s a good idea if Rio will go for it. His paws must be very sore from typing by now.
Fading fast here too…See y’all tomorrow – Bear
9:49 pm on August 25th, 2012
Footware!…I think footware was mentioned once…grump!… I have posted the story out on Dishlickers…sniff!
9:54 pm on August 25th, 2012
Whew!…That took me a while to type out…sniff! …I think I copied it down just the way she wrote it many many moons ago…snort!…The assignment was to write a story about an event that happened when she was a kid…grunt!…She was afraid to share this as it is a special memory which is near and dear to her heart, so please do not make fun of it, even if you want to….wuffle!

I am going to scream. I am screaming. The story won’t open for me.
The moon landing was a very special day.
10:04 pm on August 25th, 2012
SiberH!…We have the latest version of WORD so maybe that is the problem…sniff!…I’m beginning to think this story should have stayed in the filing cabinet…grunt!
Wait!…She says she will copy it out there in an email instead of an attachment…snorkel!…Then anyone who cares to can read it – if you have the dishlicker password that is…heh!heh!
10:16 pm on August 25th, 2012
Okay!…It is out there as an email. You should recognize it by the title…heh!heh!…We are watching another excellant episode of Burn Notice ….wheeze!…Did Fiona get a boob-job?
10:19 pm on August 25th, 2012
Rio, we were able to open the attachment and read the story. What a special day for your friend! One of the images that stays in my mom’s memory is that of Walter Conkrite taking off his glasses and smiling as he reported on that momentous occasion.
Mom’s Mom used to say that any American that was alive at the time can tell you where they were and what they were doing when they heard about Pearl Harbor. The same can be said about the attack on the Twin Towers. We think that Mom’s generation probably is the same about the moon landing.
But, aside from that, we love the story and can see why the teacher was impressed.
10:22 pm on August 25th, 2012
Puss N’ Boots….Thank you very much…sniffle!…My friend was terrified when he read it out-loud but everyone laughed at the grasshopper part…heh!…She felt better after that.
10:33 pm on August 25th, 2012
Thank You Rio! That is a beautiful story! I laughed about the grasshopper and her brother and the rockets. Your friend should never be shy about letting people read that story.
It is very fitting to read the story on the day we learn of Armstrong’s passing. In a way, the story is a collective memory for all of us.

Rio – we have to wait til we have a real computer to read your story and Dans story and see all the links. But we are very proud if you for putting it out there for us all
Day 5 of the Really Long is now history. Tomorrow is the final day. We are hoping that people come and buy lots of the bulkie stuff so we don’t have to pack it.
But now we HAVE to go to bed. These 14 hour days are tough on us “old folks”.
G’night all. And thanks again Rose and Prof. You truly brought joy by coming to the fair.

Rio: I had the opportunity to read your wonderful story before AJ and I head out to hang drywall in the cabin. Thank you for giving us a glimpse into your childhood. I used to follow my brother around when I was younger, too. I thought he was the coolest. He thought I was a pest. Well done!

Memories!…It really is nothing more than some memories….heh!…Since she wrote it so long ago, some of the story is new to both of us…chorkel!…But it does conjure up a lot of other details that were not written down that have been coming back to her, so she says…sniff! …I re-wrote the story as is. Even then it was 200 words too long per the assignment. 5 points deducted from the total score because of that!…heh!

Rio, Great story. Wonderful Memories. Thank you. You did a masterful job mixing the memory of the moon landing and the love of your brother. Did he ever see this story? I wonder what he would think of it now.
I had a good time at the quilt shop today. In fact we had such a good time that we have the key and are going back tomorrow also. And another friend will be joining us. Yippee.
Mr.Staff is at a Bluegrass concert and will be back late tomorrow so he is missing all the fun.
Time for bed. Night all.
