Chet and Bernie # 6
“We may have some news on this soon,” Admin says. “Title-wise. Meanwhile here’s a photo of bayou country. I snuck into your office over Thanksgiving, by the way.”
“What?” says Spence.
“Yeah. And just leafed through some pages, including that scene where Chet has an encounter with – “
“SHH!”
Welcome Bella (possible she-barker?)

Good morning Spence, Admin, Chet and all.
Wonder if Spence will use one of our suggestions.
Cold here, in the upper 20s this morning.
Cawfee and then later off to the library.
8:58 am on November 26th, 2012
Hi there, B&M!
Good Morning to All!!
Cold, but not has cold as the weekend here in Westchester. Expecting some rain turning to snow tomorrow.
Admin, I don’t like these cliffhanging surprises. I still want to know what the TOP SECRET item is that is in a briefcase strapped to AJ’s wrist!!!!!!!!!
8:59 am on November 26th, 2012
Good morning Barb and Maggie, Chet, Spence, Admin, and Everybody!
We are being held prisoner indoors today. They think the house has been Kat-Proofed. We say think again.
Hey, lets check this big tree with all the stuff hanging on it, just for starters.
9:12 am on November 26th, 2012
Oh Boy, OleyHowlers are on the prowl . .
Title. Picture. Exciting.
Thank you Riö for not snorting at me. Though my sister was very careful about the gluten, her guys were cooking dressing and I don’t think they were quite as careful. Not a bad glutening but yuck.
A thin coating of snow for us up here in the hills. The weather person said “A slight chance of flurries”. I guess we’re the slight chance.
9:32 am on November 26th, 2012
I wonder if Chet encounters an alligator.
Good morning all.
9:40 am on November 26th, 2012
Admin!….Shhhhh!…Heh!snort!Heh!…This is getting good! I can hardly wait till Friday night!…wooo!
9:44 am on November 26th, 2012
Friday!…This coming Friday Night is the start of the Auction – Just want to make sure everyone remembers. So don’t make any other plans…heh!heh!
Title!…I bet Admin will spill the beans on the #6 Title this week. Since he was rifling through Spencer’s papers…heh!heh!
9:53 am on November 26th, 2012
Good morning everyone.
This is why we live DOWNHILL from Melanie. No snow here, thank dawg.
And it is another busy day chasing off to the races. Gramp really needs help on his glasses, so here we go. Talk to you all later
10:13 am on November 26th, 2012
Hmmmm…..does the Top Secret item have something to do with the title?
10:13 am on November 26th, 2012
Encounter!…Aren’t there a lot of snakes down in the bayou too!?…snort!
10:14 am on November 26th, 2012
B.Stover, it does look like a place for alligators. shiver . .
I have shared a video of Snowhook training on line. Beginning to talk up the auction.
10:41 am on November 26th, 2012
I was on line with OTAS asking about a shrimp recipe and he told me to go to “The Splendid Table”. Found a recipe but also so the following. Had to laugh!

10:45 am on November 26th, 2012
Ivy, one of the Great Dane therapy puppies, had her leg stepped on by a volunteer yesterday. She’s just sleeping away from the other puppies and doggie doc will arrive soon. The volunteer must feel terrible.
11:08 am on November 26th, 2012
Yes, the bayou has lots of snakes and catfish and crawfish and crocodiles.
11:10 am on November 26th, 2012
Crawfish!…Those are the things they suck the brains out of, right?…gurgle!
11:14 am on November 26th, 2012
“The Crawfish that Sucked Out People’s Brains”
A little known horror flick. The first scene really made people ill.
11:19 am on November 26th, 2012
Snakes and Crocodiles and Crawfish! Oh My!
Top Secret Auction Item? Can’t wait!
11:40 am on November 26th, 2012
I’ve never heard of that horror film, and what/who is “Beeb”?
11:42 am on November 26th, 2012
A frosty morning…fireplace sending off a cheery glow…enjoying a Monday off, the last day of our holiday weekend.
There will be no Cyber Monday shopping here. We are waiting with bated breath for Auction Friday and the soon-to-be-unveiled to secret item.
B: The Beeb is the latest teenage heartthrob.
11:51 am on November 26th, 2012
Looking forward to learning the title of the new book.
Maybe Spence will share some runners up with us.
I never want to go to bayou country. Chet will have to tell me about it.
Auction! I am ready for it! Friday Night!
Beau, The Broncos won again!
11:51 am on November 26th, 2012
hat tip to Dawson for “the beeb”
11:55 am on November 26th, 2012
Bee, Justin Bieber has been around for several years. Cute young Canadian singer who has won many music awards. He is called The Beeb for short.
Does anyone remember the names of the two books mentioned over the weekend about young girls that were kidnapped by Indian tribes and then did not want to go back to white society? I think one was the Reluctent Captive, or something like that. I believe one was a true story.
12:02 pm on November 26th, 2012
Barb, The other one is, “Empire of the Summer Moon”.
It is about the rise and fall of the Commanche. This one is about much more than just the captive gringa, Cynthia Parker. It is a non-fiction book that reads like a novel.
12:06 pm on November 26th, 2012
Thank you Siber. Found the other one, Unredeemed Captive. Now off to the library to see if they have either one.
12:12 pm on November 26th, 2012
Barb, There is a fiction book about Cynthia Parker you might like. It is called, Ride the Wind, by Lucia St. Clair Robson.
Mom ignored that book for years because she thought it was a romance novel. The cover of the paperback is splorty. Then, she read the customer reviews of it on Amazon and changed her mind and ordered it. It is a very good book! It isn’t a romance novel. It is a historical novel.
a small warning…the other books by this same author are not nearly as good as this one.
12:19 pm on November 26th, 2012
Rose! CHobbit!…The 2013 Idita-Rider Musher Auction bidding has begun! Ride in your favorite musher’s sled for the first 11-miles of the 2013 Iditarod Ceremonial Start. Go to: http://www.iditarodauction.com to start bidding!….Woooo!
12:25 pm on November 26th, 2012
B.Stover, I made up that film.
I also did not know what a “Beeb” was.
Of course, the dog door picks today to break. The wind is wicked and it’s cold with snow flurries. I have done an “AJ” fix on it. Should last until the weather gets better and I can take the door off and use the proper tools.
12:31 pm on November 26th, 2012
Siber: Those books sound good. We are following B&M’s lead and checking with the local library for availability.
Melanie: Sorry about the doggie door. Murphy’s Law.
12:36 pm on November 26th, 2012
Rio: Wooo is right. I was looking up my bank account balance and unfortunately I entered the password wrong three times. Don’t know if it was nerves, my eyes or the fact that I just got up. Now I am locked out of my account. Rose, am I going to be bidding against you???? That’s ok, if you win, I will be happy for you.
12:39 pm on November 26th, 2012
C.Hobbit and Rose are both so tiny, they could win a “two-for”! Our team can easy pull both of them.
12:40 pm on November 26th, 2012
Jeeze Louise. I looked up the starting bid for AJ and sled ride. No wonder C.Hobbit couldn’t see straight!
12:43 pm on November 26th, 2012
Bid!…What is the starting bid for a ride in The Giants sled?…snort!
12:49 pm on November 26th, 2012
$500
12:53 pm on November 26th, 2012
My Dear Niece Kat – You are on the loose with temptation all around. I hope you have matured past your waste basket raiding forays from last summer. Be a good girl.
12:53 pm on November 26th, 2012
Barb&Maggie and/or Masquers: If you can’t find it at the library, I can send you my copy of Empire of the Summer Moon.
SiberH: I will look for Ride the Wind by Lucia St.Clair Robson.
I didn’t make up “the beeb”, I heard it on the news.
12:56 pm on November 26th, 2012
I was lying under the tree where I always lie, just minding my own business. Kat wanted to play with me. Meashka wanted to pull her out. Then T.C. tried to get them to stop grabbing for me, so she could bop me. Once the tree was down, Dima, who never left the sofa, started weaving the tale he was going to tell the rents when they get home.
1:03 pm on November 26th, 2012
Ride the Wind was published sometime during the mid 1980’s and it is still in print. That speaks well of the book. Also, the author really did her historical research before she wrote the book.
1:06 pm on November 26th, 2012
CHobbit: Lock out! We, too, have had that unfortunate experience. Now we here make it a rule not to make more than 2 ill fated attempts at log-in (not that this information is of any use to you now…)
Buddy! Youse are in trouble. ALL of you.
1:11 pm on November 26th, 2012
Buddy: talk about tales of Christmas trees past! There were a few years that I didn’t even bother to put up a tree due to animal shenanigans. Once I put it in my spare bedroom which was no fun in terms of having to visit the room to enjoy the lights. The animals were onto me and I would have to quickly enter and exit the room trying to keep my cat and/or dog out. They became more and more determined to get into the room. Ahh, memories.
1:25 pm on November 26th, 2012
C. Hobbit, no worries about bidding against each other. I mean not that I wouldn’t want to be on the trail with Bella’s handsome musher, but my piggy bank has taken some hits, and there is still the auction. Maybe that TOP SECRET item is the AJ version of the 2013 Snowhook calendar. :^)
AN idea for all youse dogs and kats out there. Would like to see that as an auction item next year. Cheesecake indeed!
1:26 pm on November 26th, 2012
I mean a cheescake calendar of youse dogs and kats on this here blog, of course!
1:26 pm on November 26th, 2012
Tree!…The fur is going to fly when someone gets home…heh!heh!…My friend says she is going to put up her tree downstairs where we can enjoy it….snort!…Her mother does not care for Christmas trees anyways…sniff!
1:31 pm on November 26th, 2012
Rio! Don’t forget to put your Rockies ornament on the tree! :^)
1:36 pm on November 26th, 2012
Rose: That is a most excellent idea. A Plunderer Pack Calendar!
Bella: Check your SDD. Wooo!
1:48 pm on November 26th, 2012
Ornament!…Of course the Rockies ornament will go on the tree right where we can see it every night…heh!
1:54 pm on November 26th, 2012
Oh dear, my advice was too late.
1:55 pm on November 26th, 2012
I wonder who gets the money that is bid on the ride in the sled…the mushers or the Iditarod establishment.
1:56 pm on November 26th, 2012
Back from the library. Picked up Unredeemed Captive and ordered Summer Moom, which was checked out. Thank you Dawson for the offer. Our little Lena Library didn’t have many books, but the Woodstock Library is huge.
Barb can not believe that youse guys haven’t heard of Justin Bieber. He is probably mentioned daily on the news, plus has won all kinds of music awards. The Beeb is probably mentioned as much as the President of the United States! In fact, they said his name twice 30 seconds ago on Extra. Maybe you don’t tune in to any of those trash holiwood news shows? He got booed at the Canadian ball game this weekend, and got dised for wearing overalls when he met the Prime Minister of Canada the other day.
2:09 pm on November 26th, 2012
Masquers, would love, love, love the Plunderers Pack calendar!!!
Rio! Heh! I’m glad your Rockies ornament get a place of honor on your tree!
2:11 pm on November 26th, 2012
I think our favorite author should auction off a mention of a name (2-legged or 4-legged) in his next book.
2:13 pm on November 26th, 2012
O.Howlers: Hey! It just wouldn’t be Christmas without a little Tree Falling.
(whispering) Did this really happen or is it all in the ‘rents vivid Imagination?
Maggie: With the Abundance of Good Things available in Woodstock, sounds like Barb is in her glory Holiday shopping this year.
Do you have photos of the weekend’s project yet?
C.Hobbit: Yes!!!
2:17 pm on November 26th, 2012
Rose…we need to be in contact before the race so we can meet up. Are you going to the finish line also or just the start? SDD-me sometime.
2:18 pm on November 26th, 2012
You guys are cracking me up.
Barb: There’s music…and then there’s music….
2:20 pm on November 26th, 2012
Oh, CHobbit. That is a great idea. I love it! We should tell Chet right away. Heh.
Has your luggage turned up yet?
2:26 pm on November 26th, 2012
Do youse really think SQ would bid big bucks to get to mention me me me in his next book?
Masquers, we are keeping them in suspense.
2:52 pm on November 26th, 2012
Siber-H, I believe it’s the biggest money maker for the Iditarod itself. So I guess the $7,500 is a buy it now button?
My hands smell of ginger. Yum, dinner is going to be good.
Heard from YSAS. He still doesn’t know if he’s one of the eight, BUT he got a featured extra role. He is a Fagan like character teaching children how to steal. That’s my son! He played Fagan in his high school production of “Oliver”.
2:55 pm on November 26th, 2012
Clarkson!…A Featured Extra Role!…Yipppeeee!….Now if they just don’t cut it out during the Editing process…grunt!
2:58 pm on November 26th, 2012
Buddy: I suppose Dima will say “a kat was involved” in the tree toppling.
Staff: CHobbitHarris did get her luggage back. She said so yesterday.
2:58 pm on November 26th, 2012
Melanie: Paws crossed for YSuccessfulActorSon to be one of the Eight. Go YSAS!!!
Kat: Of course, he would.
2:59 pm on November 26th, 2012
CHobbit: The Prof and I will be arriving in Alaska on February 26. We will be there for the pre-festivities, and the starting line. It would be so cool to meet up with you. Can I find your SDD on Dishlickers?
3:01 pm on November 26th, 2012
Riö: Bite your tongue! There will be no editing out of our favorite actor on the Plunderer’s watch.
3:31 pm on November 26th, 2012
Boutique!…Hey youse guys, while you are waiting around for the Auction to open, check out the Boutique…snort!…There are some new items on the shelves…wheeze!
3:43 pm on November 26th, 2012
Thanks for all the good thoughts for YSAS. He had a good time. Still working.
I have been working on a desktop saver for all of us during the Iditarod. This is what I have so far. I think I’m up to date. And, if you want to change the name of YOUR own checkpoint I will try to fix it. Now Riö and Kats, no changing other peoples’!
4:21 pm on November 26th, 2012
Melanie – I remember when YSAS was homeless and begging on the street. Then he got shot, then he got dead, and now he’s teaching little children how to steal.
You must be so proud!
4:27 pm on November 26th, 2012
Mail!… All of youse guys who bought my friends projects listen up…snort!… She will be mailing them out this afternoon, so you can expect to receive them 3 days from now. Four days if you are SiberH…grunt!…If you are not going to be home on Wed. or Thursday please give me a shout and she will mail yours later…wheeze!
4:33 pm on November 26th, 2012
Aunt Molly, That Buddy is a real laugh riot. Mom asked me to get right on this here blog and set the record straight. She wants me to tell you that she lives with the best
damndang Husky Pack ever!Dawson, was that you who asked about Misha vs Meashka? Misha was a big brother who passed long before I arrived on the scene. He was the love of Sasha’s life…so much so that Mom and Dad referred to them as husband and wife. Ironically, about a month after he passed, a nearby boarding kennel called Mom about a girl husky named Meashka who desperately needed a home. And you all know the rest of the story.
Nice work on the map, Melanie.
All paws and hooves and fingers crossed for YSAS!!!!!!
4:34 pm on November 26th, 2012
BSD, The island doesn’t look all that interesting yet, so we will post the next picture when the new countertop is installed in about 10 days. Will then be all done with the kitchen project.
4:50 pm on November 26th, 2012
Rio, I’ll be home. I’m the closest to you in distance, but my package may take the longest to arrive.
5:20 pm on November 26th, 2012
SiberH!…We are sending yours in a really ugly box to throw the Goats off…heh!heh!
5:38 pm on November 26th, 2012
Sammie: Was that you who mentioned one of the Great Dane pups had been stepped on by a volunteer? Poor little pup…hope she will be okay. Keep us updated if you can.
Melanie: Thank you for your work on the map.
5:45 pm on November 26th, 2012
Thanks for that great map, Melanie!
5:50 pm on November 26th, 2012
I’m enjoying the map surveying. Perhaps that is what I’ll be in my next career.
The Stir Fried Ginger Shrimp was a hit. Zoë wants me to make it 3 times a week. sigh.
5:58 pm on November 26th, 2012
Rose: yes my SDD is on Dishlickers
6:37 pm on November 26th, 2012
Thank you for the map Melanie.
6:38 pm on November 26th, 2012
Language, Kat, language!
6:43 pm on November 26th, 2012
Melanie, We love fresh ginger. Barb is also making a stir-fry tonight, too. Teriaki beef, veggies, including frozen snap peas from our garden last spring, and brown rice.
6:44 pm on November 26th, 2012
Melanie: Okay, so could you change Misha’s name to Meashka on the Kaltag checkpoint?
6:45 pm on November 26th, 2012
Bear, puppy Ivy only has swollen toes. She couldn’t have been stepped on that hard. However, she’s running a fever and is on an antibiotic. I’ll bet that volunteer is relieved.
7:07 pm on November 26th, 2012
Dawson, Kaltag is where Sasha will feel her Misha Moonman returning to her. Melanie did it correctly on the map.
7:11 pm on November 26th, 2012
A love affair for the ages. Sigh.
7:20 pm on November 26th, 2012
Rio – Do you ask for a signature on delivery? That would be tricky for me with my schedule and the mail person’s erratic route timing. Otherwise, send it on. The blue duck of happines is mine/mine/mine!
Nice map, Melanie. BTW, haven’t found YSAS on BE and betting the season finale is one huge bloody battle.
C Hobbit – very good idea to auction mention of a name in the next C&B, or the one after that, or the one after that.
7:34 pm on November 26th, 2012
Blu-Kat!…No!…I just ask that you be there to eventually take the project inside to its new home…grunt!
7:43 pm on November 26th, 2012
OleyHowlers: Oh! I am finally starting to understand the whole Misha name thing. It takes me awhile.
7:55 pm on November 26th, 2012
Rio – I’ll be here, waiting patiently, like a good kat, unless I’m splorting, like I did today. Dad was not amused.
8:05 pm on November 26th, 2012
Bluecat, are you sick?
8:06 pm on November 26th, 2012
CHobbit: I’ll be in touch….
8:09 pm on November 26th, 2012
Bluecat: Asking after your health out of concern. I hate when any of the four- leggeds are under the weather. Come to think of it, I don’t like hearing about any two-leggeds being under the weather either.
8:11 pm on November 26th, 2012
Melanie, BSD, Rio and Wookie: please check your SDD.
8:16 pm on November 26th, 2012
Gah!…BluKat!…sniff!…Quit splorting! I swear you and Beau lately…grunt!…My friend says its because her mother over-feeds us day in and day out….heh!…Those two are not getting along tonight. Her mother asks how her day was and then refuses to listen instead tells my friend what she should do without knowing anything. The women hasn’t worked and hardly leaves the house, yet she has all the answers…snort!….Tonight this didn’t sit well with my friend…grunt!
8:25 pm on November 26th, 2012
Very good day here today. Most importantly, I finally got to see grandpa at the rehab facility. Dad wheeled him out in a wheelchair and I got some very serious tummies time in with him before dad took him back in. I have definitely been tummies deprived since he broke his hip. Mom and dad thought it lifted grandpa’s spirits a lot too. Afterwards, we went for a nice walkies and then to Dairy Queen, one of my favorite destinations.
Wookie
8:28 pm on November 26th, 2012
Queen!….Wookie! You went to the fabled Dairy Queen?…gasp!….I’ve only heard tall-tails about it but I have never been to one or even seen a photo…wheeze!slobber!
8:28 pm on November 26th, 2012
Rebecca. Checked and responded. Wookie
8:52 pm on November 26th, 2012
We have a Dairy Queen just 2 miles from us. They give dogs a free ice cream at the drive up window. Kids don’t get a free ice cream.
Wookie, I know getting to visit with you was very good for grandpa.
8:52 pm on November 26th, 2012
Rio,
8:55 pm on November 26th, 2012
Wow!…sniff!
9:05 pm on November 26th, 2012
Wöökie, I’m so glad you got to see your Grandpa (and got tummies). It’s important to keep the spirits up of those in rehab. I believe you did your bit!
No DQ around here. Had them back in VA where we lived. I love that they give free cones to dogs. The Pack loves to go to the drive through at the bank because they get bones. When I stop at the window, they peer around my shoulder. Always an “awww” time.
Responded, Bella. You’re not getting off that easy.
TTFN
9:11 pm on November 26th, 2012
Rebecca!…Is she wheeling and dealin’ again tonight!…heh!…Once her keyboard heats up and starts smokin’ – watch out!…snort!
9:14 pm on November 26th, 2012
Threats, promises, bribes, pretty pleases have all been endured today by those wanting a sneak peek at the top secret items. The alarm (Bishop and 49 of his closest friends) sounded several times last night. Was it at a nearby moose or to warn us of Plunderers army crawling thought the woods trying to get their paws on said item. I expect to be strapped to a chair with a bright light in my face any time now. I’m prepared. I’m not squealing.
9:18 pm on November 26th, 2012
Hooo!Hooo!….Now I get it. Melanie can’t stand NOT KNOWING!…heh!…I don’t blame you Melanie, I am the exact same way…chorkel!
9:57 pm on November 26th, 2012
We are signing off early. Good night all. Jack will be here tomorrow so we need to rest up for the assult.
9:57 pm on November 26th, 2012
Phew. Finally, Mama got a chance to sit. Gramp may be old, but he ain’t slowin’ down. Not for no one, not no how.
He may just about turn Mama’s hair grey before he gets his glasses and can see again.
Short version of a long story – bought front load washer and dryer 4 years ago. Bought extended warranty. Good thing – washing machine has broken SEVEN times in 4 years. Extended warranty is up for renewal. Expensive. But necessary with the history. Unless machine is replaced – but it is working fine right now. Gramp says, lets just go look. Went to store that is not High. Consumer Reports best washer is on super sale. Gramp and Dad say DO IT. Mama says, wellllllll…… Salesman says he will take off ANOTHER $500 on washer, pedestal and extended warranty. New washer is being delivered next week.
Came home to discover that SOMEONE had gotten into the cabinet that holds the trash and strewn an entire bag of coffee grounds, papers, melon rinds and assorted other icky stuff all over the kitchen and dining room. (We suspect naughty elves – or Wrotten Kats. We have no recollection of how it happened)
After that was all cleaned up, dinner was accomplished. Then Mama was checking email, only to find a brand new one that says the show this weekend has been changed – it now opens FRIDAY and set up time is only from 8 am to 10 am on Friday. It was supposed to be an all day set up time on Friday with the show opening on Saturday. AAARRRGGGHHHHHH!!!!
So – thats why she hasn;’t been around much. And she is missing all the excitement on this here blog!
10:00 pm on November 26th, 2012
Squeal!…I might squeal, but I can’t talk either…heh!heh!…Rebecca, please check your SDD in a little while because I haven’t actually written anything yet…heh!
10:16 pm on November 26th, 2012
OMD poor Amalia and Leonard,
The ‘loading dock’ is going to be busy on Friday! Take extra care.
Going to bed early tonight. Mr.Staff went back to guard the farm for a few more weeks. Sigh. Sort of quiet here tonight although the kats are waiting for me upstairs.
Nighty Noodle y’all
10:17 pm on November 26th, 2012
Wose – I splort hairballs ’cause I’m a kat.
Yum. Dairy Queen pumpkin pie blizzards.
‘Night all.
10:23 pm on November 26th, 2012
Golinka!…If the set-up time is only from 8:00 to 10:00am then how long does the actual Show stay open??…wheeze!…Does this mean you really might miss the exciting opening of the Auction?…grunt!
10:31 pm on November 26th, 2012
Wonderfluffing in the am. See y’all after.
10:40 pm on November 26th, 2012
I wish I could send the Giant to help Leonard and Amalia with setting up for the show, but he doesn’t blurt and he is weighed down by having a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist.
10:44 pm on November 26th, 2012
Rio – the show is over at 6pm on Friday. We should be back at our hotel by aution opening time. But after today, there may not be lot of high bidding on auction items.
Oh, and by the way – Dad was doing a load of wash tonight after dinner – and the washing machine broke down.
sigh
Guess the fates are conspiring against us….

We sent an email to the show producer to ask what the heck was going on. He made a mistake on the press release and said the show opened on Friday. This guy gets lots and lots of press, so it is all over Boston that the show starts on Friday. So, now the show starts on Friday.
Oh well – except for the two hour set up thing, we have to look at a 3 day show as being better than a 2 day show, right?

Rio – we don’t think Mama’s feet would probably fit in your friend’s delicate little s h o e s, but she does know that as far as lives go,hers isnt all that bad.
She just wishes Gramp had his glasses, and that she was more prepared for the upcoming shows. (But that’s her own dam fault – Procrastination, thy name is Golinka!)
