Checkpoint Golovin

“So we’re sponsoring a Snowhook checkpoint in the Iditarod?” Admin says.

“Looks like it’s the Golovin checkpoint,” Spence says. “We’ll do it in the name of the Chet and Bernie Mysteries.”

“What if I can’t find the check book?” Admin says.

Spence takes the check book form his pocket, waves it around. “Here’s a little of what Rebecca has to say about Golovin – ‘In 2007, I served as snowmachine support on a dog sledding expedition that follows the original trail of the serum run that saved the lives of the people of Nome in the 1925.  Leaving Golovin, and crossing the bay was the most difficult part of the trail for me … Unforgiving winds, whiteout conditions and going over sea ice, it was hard to get your bearings … Many mushers speak of relief when they finally cross the bay.'”

Welcome Chuck.

And a big shout-out to all the Plunderers for their amazing generosity, enthusiasm for Snowhook, and just plain sense of fun.

Good morning, Chet and Spence and Admin. WOW! Youse guys are doing your own checkpoint! Amazing! Thank dog Dawson already called one for us kats…we will be running out of checkpoints soon!

Hey! Buddy tells me there is a Kats checkpoint. Imagine that! These dumb huskies told us only huskies race in the Iditarod. Good to know they are wrong and the Kats will be racing too. I will be happy to donate $20 to Our Kats Checkpoint!

Yesterday was UNBELIEVABLE, and yet, so like The Plunderers!

Wolfie asked for two of the prayers that Zoë talked about. Here’s the first:

Prayer! Lord, we bow our heads and think of our dear Bess in your presence. Lord of all Creation, one of your lovely creatures needs your special grace and mercy right now. Please free dear Bess of the pain and anxiety of diabetes. Lord, you know what is best for her. You have full control over her life. I ask in your name to please heal her and give her a full life again. She is loved and adored by so many who are so worried about her. We would truly miss her if your will is to have her beside you. We are selfish and want to keep her here with us, her friends and family, for as long as possible. Lord please give Bess a new lease on life, don’t take her just yet. We all love her too much. Especially me, Rio…Amen!

Good Morning Buddy, T.C., and Melanie:

    Rio’s prayer is beautiful.

Kat kall went out yesterday, I believe from my dear friend Masquers. Check for $50 being sent today, from me. I was once the mom of an awesome kat, Kelly.

Hey! I’m up on top with my idol, Alice Magnolia Johnson. We went on a mission together and I learned so much about how to be a diva. I had to wait on her paw and foot but she said that was part of my training.

Good morning all! A little snow here this morning in northern Illinois, but it won’t last long.

OK, if we are figuring right we have sponsored 21 checkpoints. That is 21 x $250.00 = $5,250. Could that be right? That is a heck of a lot of money!

We are sending a check to Snowhook in the mail today, wish we had more to send.

Yay, Chet has two checkpoints! Just as it should be!

I remember that prayer. I am certain that Lord wanted Bess to stay here longer, but He loved her to much to let her suffer.
And so he kissed her gently, and together they walked across the Bridge. But at some point, Bess took off running at full speed. She touched noses with a beautiful and fierce Mollypop. She went for a romp with Brandy. She chased Honey and Winnie and Paddy and Teddie and never tired. And then they chased her. She went for a walk with Blou. What a joyous homecoming it was!! She snuggled with Boris and all the dogs and Kats beloved by the Plunderers. They are a part us and we are a part of each other.

There is a 10-week old Siberian Husky puppy badly in need of a good home. The poor little guy is in his 3rd home in his short life. The person who bought him kept him ONE DAY !!! Then he went to a relative’s house for a week, but when that person got a fulltime job, he couldn’t keep the puppy. He is now with a Philadelphia-area newscaster, but she has 2 Goldens. One of them is not accepting the puppy.

    Checkpoint Golovin!
    Hurrah for Chet.
    And the happiness continues!
I’ve marked down new donations for the Kat’s Rule! checkpoint. They are from Buddy, T.C. and Rose! I underestimated the open-handedness, large-heartedness, and magnanimousness by about 6 days out of 7. We are only about $50. short on all three checkpoints this morning and it has not even been 24 hours!
    Plunderers are amazing!
Barb and Maggie and anyone else: Do you want your donation to go to one of these checkpoints? If so email me @dawson.j2@gmail.com and I will put you in our little book.
    I will be back shortly.

I just talked to The Royals’ Mum. She is very, very, very, very, very busy with clay and pots. She has to have lots and lots and lots of pots for the next few shows that are coming up!

She said that the Quilt prayer that I have is a little out of date because changes were made to reflect what was going on at the time. The updated version is in the Dishlickers’ mailbox.

She says that Basil and Sage are UPSET! Their treat budget has gone to fix the Corgimobile and they say that isn’t FAIR!

I told those Herbs that their mom does a great deal for Rebecca and Snowhook and it’s okay. But they have turned their backs on the Corgies and aren’t speaking to anyone and are catching mice and letting them loose in the Corgies’ beds.

What a time they are having there. So between keeping peace, working on pots, The Royals and the Herbs are going to be just in and out for a while.

Dawson, I am sorry, but my donation was already earmarked for Bee’s checkpoint for Brandy. I committed to her. Cash is in short supply right now, although I wish I could sponsor a whole checkpoint.

Oley, that poor little guy. That is so sad. What is wrong with that person that they had him 1 day. Nothing could change that quickly in your life! I wonder if it was a spur-of-the-moment decision, not well thought out. That is like having a child and keeping it one day!

Jasper’s mom mentioned Premarin the other day. Do you know how that stuff is made!!!! Barb said she would have hot flashes for 10 years before she would take that s**t! Doctors should be horse whipped!

  14. OleyHowlers
    11:09 am on February 21st, 2012

Barb and Maggie, we are wondering if Kat had the same situation. How else would she be turned in as a stray at 3 months of age ? !!!
We do know about premarin. Mom was put on that after her surgery millions of years ago. Then she found out how it was made and called her doc in the middle of the night !!! NOBODY should be using that stuff! There is viable synthetics that work as well, without the cruelty to horses.

Melanie: I forgot to answer your question yesterday about the apostrophe in Presidents Day. (Notice that I didn’t use one.) You won’t find many “experts” who agree on this. I’ve seen it as “Presidents Day,” “President’s Day,” and “Presidents’ Day.” My answer is that it is a title similar to Humanities Department or Mathematics Department and should not have an apostrophe. (Do Mothers Day and Fathers Day use apostrophes?)

  19. B.Stover
    11:46 am on February 21st, 2012

Melanie: I don’t know if that answer was clear. My position is that “Presidents” and “Mothers” and “Fathers” and “Mathematics” in these cases are not being used as adjectives but are part of the title or name.

Okay, I’ve found two of the magnets on the frig. Looking for where I very carefully put the decals. Pic will be coming.

I don’t think it’s a question of intelligence but one of altruism or selflessness. I don’t necessarily believe that humans are naturally altruistic but rather we are selfish. That’s why Marxism didn’t work. Darwin was correct when he came up with survival of the fittest (which requires selfishness).

When humans work together as a team (and partnerships for purposes of regenerating the species don’t count), we are willing to divide the rewards. We’d probably feel guilty if we didn’t. Is it only humans that have this team spirit? I have to think about this more.

Coming up for a breath of air – or more actually a cup of tea, and catching up on the blog.
Intersting thing – many types of birds are known to work together to resolve a situation or for gain/reward as in food or territory.
In prehistoric times, one type of dinosaur was also known for cooperative behavior for gain – the velociraptor worked in small groups or triads with one raptor getting the attention of the prey while the others snuck in from the sides.
And modern birds are supposed to be the decendants of dinosaurs. Interesting.

Of course there are many examples of canines working together in groups for a purpose – from wolf pack hunting, to Huskies running and pulling together in harness, to a confluence of Corgis working together to get all the sheep or cattle headed in the right direction.

Kats on the other hand refuse to even consider the concept of work – never mind cooperating with anyone else.

And on that note – back to the Mud Room

Good examples T&G. One assumes that the birds would share the food. Would the Corgis share whatever reward is given for their work? Can’t stop laughing about the cats….which of course brings up another question: Why the difference in attitude?

    What fun!

B.Stover: I couldn’t get that video to work. I will try later.

YSAS and Hamlet have trimmed a big tree, fixed the west wing door with handles so Dan can get in safely. Fixed the huge slab of rock step so it doesn’t move, then went for a walk in the woods, went down the hill to find out how to make Maple Beer, stopped at a Sugaring house and saw the new equipment that has come out since YSAS used to help with the sugaring at a sanctuary.

Whew. And they are still looking for things to do???? Jeez Louise.

I am finished for the day. With work and with everyone asking where is this? Where is that? Come and look at this. That was not only YSAS and Hamlet.

the house is as ready as we can get it. I will put up Amalia’s prayer that Zoe keeps next to her bed. As someone I sent it to this morning commented, “This prayer is so powerful that I can see the manifestations already. We are blessed to know each other.”

But first? Rest and laughing at stories that my two actors tell.

Rio – I had posted the video of the squirrel spinner and I owned one. It was the funniest thing because it was near the fence. The tube of seeds had a ring perch that would start to spin if a squirrel stepped on it. Those smart squirrels learned that sometimes the battery needed charging and didn’t spin when they hopped on. They would sit on the fence and use one paw to push down on the ring, testing it. If it didn’t spin, then they would hop on.

  44. Siber-H
    4:48 pm on February 21st, 2012

    Barb and Maggie, ummm NO

Snowhook knows and we know and that is what counts.
It would be impossible for the mushers to get signs put up at the checkpoints. There are a lot of mushers and teams and the mushers won’t ever visit the checkpoints until they are running the Iditarod. The mushers supplies, like dog food and straw, are flown into the checkpoints and are there waiting for the mushers as they arrive.
What Rebecca calls, “drop bags” are actually just that. It is supplies flown into the checkpoints and are there stacked up and waiting for each individual musher as he/she arrives at the different checkpoints. The mushers have to put their names on each and every drop bag.

The Plunderers Checkpoints dedicated to Melanie and the Pack, Dan and Zoe and The Kats are considered sponsored by all Plunderers and Lurkers alike.
There are a few honorable mentions though.

The “Triple Crown Crowd: They donated to all three checkpoints! Rose, C.Harris, BearSpiritDog & Masquers, Gus & BooBear, Wookie & Maury, Linda the Lurker, and Staff, Alice & Abbie.
The Double Bangers: They donated to both Melanie & the Pack and Dan and Zoe’s checkpoints! B.Stover, Rio the Pug, Oley Howlers.
The Kats Rule! checkpoint: Buddy, T.C. and BlueCat.

Thanks to everyone’s support. Now…there seems to be a little bit of change left over…and we still have a couple (4 is it?) checkpoints to sponsor. Any suggestions?

Rose and All: I only know for sure that there is $23. left over. There is another bit but until Rebecca gets home from work I won’t know how much – a good guess is another $30. for a total of $55 to start another round of checkpoint donating. I am catching my breath from the last round and biding my time to see if anyone else has a preference for another Plunderer checkpoint dedication. We are so close to sponsoring all the checkpoints that I think we should Plunder On and sponsor the rest.

Dog, those guys are funny. First we watched one of the “Single-Handed” series. Takes place in Ireland. Garda guy comes back home to western Ireland. Storyline is great. The photography? Unbelievable. Zoë says it’s exactly like that. On the first episode the acting by a couple of the people was so-so, but it has gotten better and better.

We’ve been working on the pictures they brought up with them. Dinner was great.

Their suggestion for when Dan comes home? To play “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin.

    Next is Amalia’s prayer.

Creator – Thank you for this glorious day. We awoke, and breathed in the air that you have created. We have touched our feet on the glorious earth that you have created. We have seen the sky and the waters that you have created. We know that we are most fortunate to live in your world.

Creator – we also thank you for the friends we have in this world.
We have found each other in your world. You have brought us together and stitched our lives together like a most wondrous and glorious quilt. Each one of us, although we are made up of different colors, different patterns and designs, with different backgrounds, each one of us has been incorporated into this quilt, where each part touches many others, where the beauty of the whole comes from the blending of all the parts. Our quilt spreads over all who seek its warmth, leaving none to face the cold alone.

Creator – just as with any quilt sewn together with care and love, when it is so well used, there may need to be some repairs. We ask you to bring us together with the thread of this prayer so any parts of the quilt that are a little frayed or tattered, any colors that have faded and stitches that have come undone may be made whole again; may be made strong by virtue of our unity. We ask you to hear our hearts beating together, united to pray for the good of our friends.

Creator – we ask you to light your lamp on the path of some of our friends so they will know that they are not lost and alone. Help them to find the gathering place where there will be good things waiting for their arrival. Where Macy’s family has felt the coldness and uncertainty of dark waters, please grant them your warm light and help them find the sun on their faces again.
Where Wolfie’s boys have struggled through the jungle of addiction, please give them the tools they need to finally cut through the grasping vines that hold them back. Let Bella’s beloved brother see through the fog to your light, and know that he can travel safely. We ask that you watch over Macy’s friend Marilyn’s mother, and be with her in this difficult time.

Creator – we ask you to be with each one of us as we work to be the best we can. We ask you to guide us to opportunities that will fulfill what is in our hearts. Please let there be open doorways for McKey, and let there be eagles’ wings soaring along the Iditarod path with AJ and the Huskies.

Creator – We thank you for granting talent to our hands and minds. Bless and guide the hands that sew and knit and quill and cook and paint. Bless the hands that garden and harvest and write and sculpt. Bless the hands that teach, the hands that sooth, and the hands that reach out to help others.

Creator – we are so thankful for the continued good health of our friends. You have brought Barb and Staff, Wookie and BlueCat back to good health, and we ask you to continue to shelter them in your hands. We bring to you prayers for those beloved ones in our circle who need you most – please gently hold Dan and Patsy on their journey. Let them feel only your love and ours. We ask you to hear our prayers as a healing for Wolfie’s mom Mary, Melanie and Zoe, and for BearSpiritDog /Barb’s second son and Liz’s dear Cricket. We ask you to watch over Dawson’s brother and sister in law, and Nana’s sister and brother in law. We ask that BlueCat’s dad will only need to remember this biopsy for the scar upon his skin, and not for the need for any further treatment.

Creator – we ask you to take the strength of our unity, and give it to those who care for others. Let Zoe and Melanie, Kelly, Dawson and Staff, Wolfie and all who give of themselves know that they have our strength to draw from and to lean upon.

Creator – we thank you for the wonderful gift you have given us in the companionship of our beloved animals. They are in your image that they judge us not, and love us no matter our faults. We ask you to watch over them, both in this life and the next. As we honor the memories of loyal Blou, fierce MollyPop, gentle Bess and all the others who have gone before us, they remain in our hearts. Bless those who rescue the abandoned, the abused and the homeless. Bless those who give more to their beloved animals than they give to themselves.

Creator – you have created this wonderful quilt of people, who while we may never meet, will always be joined together in more important ways. In honor of the many gifts you have bestowed on us, our gift will be the warmth and comfort that this quilt provides. We will shelter within its folds our many friends and family members who need our support.

Creator – we lift this prayer to you in unison. We ask you to hear our love and concern for our Circle of Loved Ones. We ask you to grant our requests and be with each one of us in our needs.

Creator – we thank you for this glorious day. We have breathed deeply of the air you have created. We have walked upon the sacred earth you have created. We have gazed upon the sky you set above us and been surrounded this day with your love. We know we are most fortunate to live in your world.
    Amen

Every one!….I count 21 checkpoints sponsored so far – with the Kats!….snort! …Are there some “left-over” checkpoints that the Mushers usually zoom!zoom!zoom! right through?….sniff!…I’m thinking if there are, we would only have the checkpoints left where AJ and the A-Team might actually take a break and rest….grunt!…Do you see what I am getting at?…grunt!….Rebecca, help us out here please? Although, I know you are seriously busy right now probably…heh!heh!

Amalia’s Powerful Prayer fills our hearts with love, our eyes with tears of thankfulness, and again reminds each of us there is great comfort and healing under our quilt of many colors.
It has been said: Where Two or More Are Gathered Together, harmoniously focused and connected to the Source Energy, brings about a co-creative endeavor that cannot be matched by anything else in all the Universe.
    We are the Plunderers.

Ahem…I have announcement to make: The Kat Kall checkpoint will be Shaktoolik. Why Shak? I’ve never ever experienced wind like I have in that coastal village, and if I had a flat rate box and some shipping tape, I may have considered shipping myself home. The wind may have been bad, miserable, unbearable, yet the sun also was shinning bright, so bright I think a Kat could find a good spot for a nap.

Ahem…and, now that I’ve got your attention, I have another announcement to make. Somethings are priceless. And, like the generosity and support shown to Snowhook by the Plunderers, the prayers offered by Golinka and Leonard are priceless. I shared with someone close to the Kennel how in awe and humbled we are by the gesture, how I don’t know how to show my gratitude or make it know how much it means to us. They appreciated the offering as well and the magnitude of the offer was not lost on them either. As a show of their gratitude for the prayer offering, the Nulato checkpoint has been sponsored by someone close to the kennel. The checkpoint has been dedicated to Golinka and the Storyteller to thank them for their generosity of spirit and support.

Thank you to each of you. Last year at this time we were going with out and selling things to make cover dog food for the kennel and make it to the starting line. Every time I think of your support, I can’t help but get emotional. Thank you for understanding what it is to have a dream.

I’m finding I like the view from this podium…I have yet another announcement to make that starts out with one word: All!

All the checkpoints are sponsored from Willow to Nome as of this evening. Sometimes I feel like so much happens to and for Snowhook when I’m not looking, so when I arrived home after all youse went to bed, I just carried on a bit.

Thank you! Thank you for everything. Words are not enough to express our gratitude.
