Changes
You may have noticed some changes here at the blog. It’s all part of a redesign in the works, so if things are a bit buggy for a while please understand. We’re trying to bring everything – Chet and Bernie, WOOF and the new middle-grades series, and works of Peter Abrahams – all under one roof. As part of this, there’ll be a change to Friends of Chet. Previously there have been two galleries, one here and one at the Chet the Dog Facebook group. A redundancy that became too much for admin to handle, if books were going to get written, too. The Facebook group will continue so please join if you aren’t a member already. (You may have noticed that the Friends button here now automatically links to Facebook.)
Thanks, everybody. Now back to the second-last chapter (or possibly third last) of SCENTS AND SENSIBILITY.

Good morning, everyone! Phew, OFA is one busy boy. Mom has noticed that the blog page on her ifone is crazy and mixed up, but here on the ipaw, not so much.
Mom is getting ready to toddle off to the library and we smart dogs are going to go back to bed with the DDD since we had BIG thunderboomers from 1:10 till 5:00 this a.m. and that means we were on guard duty all around the bed to protect the peeps. YAWN!
Have a trouble-free Tuesday.
9:29 am on December 16th, 2014
Morning all. We hadn’t noticed any problems, but glad to hear they’re being fixed anyway.
BooBear – your mom gave that kitty a peaceful ending. All is well.
Off to do rounds of cleaning up legalities now that we have the necessary paperwork.
9:41 am on December 16th, 2014
The changes are fine.
Good morning all.

Chet: But, but, but What Happened to the Friends of Chet Gallery on this here Blog is what WE Want to Know. GAH.
11:01 am on December 16th, 2014
BSD, it’s gone and that’s sad but we have to understand that SQ and Chet have become so popular that he is a busy, busy, busy man. I am going to miss that, but am ever so grateful that he is keeping the blog going. I think we should continue to post our own pictures as long as able. I’m sure he enjoys seeing those. Not sure if Mom will flip to facebook to add me and Howie, she is a very sparse facebookie person, but we will see.
Good Morning all!
11:20 am on December 16th, 2014
BooBear, mom is a nonexistent face bookie person. She is lucky to turn on her ipaw and ifone.

Today’s Google doodle is really neat.
11:40 am on December 16th, 2014
I am just hoping at this point that we get to keep the blog. I am on FB, but not in a big way.

We are on fb – not in a big way either, but we don’t get the sense of community with Chet’s place there. Certainly not the Snowhook sponsorship, and quilt companionship.

Thank you Masquers.

Glad Howie did ok his first day alone.
I brought home a new doggy bed yesterday for Lucy. Never had one, as Maggie prefers furniture or the floor. Lucy went right to it and started rubbing her face on the super soft lining. She has been in it almost constantly since, even sleeping in it over night, right next to the Christmas tree. I don’t know how she knew it was for her, but she claimed it! I will post a picture at some point tonight or tomorrow. Best money I have spent in a long time!
1:08 pm on December 16th, 2014
0Boo Bear talked about how good Howie was yesterday while she was gone for many hours. Mr.Staff and I were gone for 2 hours this morning. This is what we came back to…

Keiko doesn’t approve of tablecloths. They get in the way when she wants to paper surf on the table.
1:10 pm on December 16th, 2014
Barb,Magpie,Lucy: Lucy will be Cozy Now!
Paws Up! Good Dog, Howie.
Royals: We Agree. Chet’s Blog, with OFA and all our Plunderer Friends, is the Place to Be!
1:11 pm on December 16th, 2014
Staff, a mess, yes, but was anything eaten or taken to they yard and burried?
1:17 pm on December 16th, 2014
Wish I could have seen Lucy rubbing her face on the soft lining.
Keiko is a very talented kitty.
1:20 pm on December 16th, 2014
I would much rather Spence write books than worry about photo galleries. I am not going to facebookie nor am I upset about not going to facebookie.
Spence, We are thankful for the blog.
Howie, Good for you! I had a feeling you would do fine home alone. Well, you are not really home alone if we count all the kats.
You were adopted by a very special lady.
1:20 pm on December 16th, 2014
Sharon, Nothing was even broken. The glass that was on the table landed in the upholstered chair. The papers were easily picked up. And she says she is very sorry and will never do it again but she had one paw behind her back.

(She blames it on Henry, she would never do such a thing. Even though I caught her paper surfing as soon as I put a few back on the table)
1:26 pm on December 16th, 2014
Staff, Henry and Keiko are special additions, even if Alice and Abbie don’t think so, so there!
1:28 pm on December 16th, 2014
Keiko: You are very cute, and I, for one, believe you. (We kats must stick together) ^..^
Notice: Holiday cards are temporarily on hold because Someone here, who was in charge of shipping and mailing supplies, ran out of stamps. A new supply will be delivered asap…so youse that have not received yours will be receiving one very soon…okay, before the New Year.
BTW: Chet, Good job on fixing the foto enlargements!
We, too, are thankful for the blog.
1:38 pm on December 16th, 2014
Made T & G’s corn chowder. It was delish! Next time I will add more potato and less chicken. I used 1 med. potato and 1 large chicken breast.
1:42 pm on December 16th, 2014
Barb,Magpie,Lucy: Dog! Does That Sound Delish!
1:49 pm on December 16th, 2014
Mom would like a few crossed fingers, pleased. A family came in to toddler Tuesday and said they were glad to go somewhere as they were just recovering from chicken pox 🙁 Darned inconsiderate folks. Mom has had chicken pox 3 times already so hope they were past contagion. She explained to librarian and left 20 min. early.
1:59 pm on December 16th, 2014
Hounds Mom: Those words should have been: “just RECOVERED from”. Hoping that is what they meant to say. Just in case…Paws & Tails Crossed and Prayers Said!
2:08 pm on December 16th, 2014
We will know by New Years at the latest. Saw some lump/bumps but didn’t get close enough to check if they were scabbed or not. When mom was teaching, the admin always made arrangements to put kids of infected families in another location. It will probably be fine since she has had every shot known to medicine-kind since her surgery.
On the GREAT side, she is cooking stroganoff tonight, yummers 🙂
2:10 pm on December 16th, 2014
I thought you could get chicken pox only one time!
Bear, The chowder was extremely good. Recipe called for ham, which might be even better. We used real butter and real, organic, half and half. It would not be as good with milk or margarine. If you’re going to go, go big!
2:30 pm on December 16th, 2014
Barb, most people and many dr’s think that but there are exceptions.
2:31 pm on December 16th, 2014
Barb: sadly a few people can get chicken pox and mumps more than once.
One of my pet peeves when I worked was coworkers who worked sick. This particularly happened on a job where sick leave time and vacation leave time were accrued into one leave. So if you didn’t stay home sick, it meant you could take a longer vacation = people working sick. I would invariably catch what they had and would be too sick to work.
Furnace guy cancelled his appointment with me due to problems on another job. So much for me canceling my daily routine to accommodate him.
2:39 pm on December 16th, 2014
C Hobbit, no good deed shal go unpunished!
2:43 pm on December 16th, 2014
If you’ve had chicken pox, you can also get shingles which is very painful.
2:51 pm on December 16th, 2014
I’ve just received…..the ARC of Woof. It is signed and paw-printed and there is a note saying it’s the very first copy he has signed: “Delighted it’s to you, Betty.”
HEEEE! HEEEE! (That’s a witch’s cackle.)
I won’t give anything away.
2:56 pm on December 16th, 2014
Hello. Pop had shingles. Mom wants to get the vaccine for shingles, but was denied when she asked the first time.
Keiko! You made our day! Heh!
Great news about Howie’s first day.
Barb, some of us are used to having our own beds. Apparently, Lucy is one. So is Zeus. He never had a doubt that the bed which clearly says “Meshka” was his, as Meash was in the bed which says “Kat”.
Mom is egg-cited that she can re-post all of our photos on Chet’s facebook page.
2:57 pm on December 16th, 2014
Spence&Admin: I’m fine with the general bugginess lately, as long as it doesn’t turn into outright battiness later. Thank you for this blog and our crazy quilt family.
HOH: Sheesh! Some people. Please stay well.
BooBear: So glad your stray cat had a warm safe place to be for the last little while. Howie did great! Good for him!
2:58 pm on December 16th, 2014
Oh BStover! You lucky dog!
3:00 pm on December 16th, 2014
Lucy too! You are a lucky dog, too, to have such a nice soft bed!
3:02 pm on December 16th, 2014
I really love the cover. It’s of the dog, Woof. As I recall, the cover was on Snowhook’s boutique site.

Lots of Barking and Twirling Going on Here!!!
We just opened a Big Box from none other than the Royal Mum herself.
There is Pure Magic Inside!!!
3:27 pm on December 16th, 2014
Dad had a bad case of shingles a few years ago on his head and face. He was miserable. Mom got her vaccine for the shingles last year. That is one that doesn’t have to be repeated. Mom is surprised that you weren’t able to get one, Howler’s Mom. Must be because you are TOO YOUNG!!!
B., Mom was bidding on the ARC for awhile but had to let it drop when all the items she was interested in got too high to continue.
Mom moved a recliner from the family room to her bedroom to make room for the Christmas tree. That is where Howie sleeps at night. He also prefers furniture.
3:40 pm on December 16th, 2014
HRH B, at least give us a 1-4 paws up, all in secret, of course.
All Dog’s critters find a comfy place to sleep.
3:52 pm on December 16th, 2014
Mmmm? We may be a 1 Scooteroo advertising campaign!

4:02 pm on December 16th, 2014
Here’s two sentences that made me laugh out loud. (A girl and her “Grammy” are looking at dogs apparently at a rescue site. Woof is in a cage.) “The kid took out her gum, stuck it behind her ear. Maybe the coolest thing I’d ever seen.”
4:06 pm on December 16th, 2014
The dog’s name is Bowser.
4:36 pm on December 16th, 2014
B, is the dog the narrator?
4:44 pm on December 16th, 2014
BB: Yes, Bowser is the narrator. The girl is called Birdie.
4:50 pm on December 16th, 2014
STOVER!….Yeeeep!…How very cool for you!…snort!
5:49 pm on December 16th, 2014
Because I am expecting a package from Rio’s friend (cookies!) and since I might eat them all before taking them to Christmas dinner, I bought a box of shortbread cookies to take just in case. And then because there is a possibility I could eat Rio’s friend’s cookies AND the shortbread cookies, I bought a tin of Dark Roca (did you know almond roca now comes also as dark chocolate?). And just in case I could eat ALL the cookies AND the dark roca, I bought 3 tins. I think I am safe since if I eat all of this I will surely be too sick to attend Christmas dinner.
It always helps to have a backup plan in place.
5:52 pm on December 16th, 2014
Gotcha! Sounds like a plan.
5:54 pm on December 16th, 2014
Oh Bee – we can’t wait to read “Woof”! When OFA came to visit at the show on Cape Cod this summer, he was so excited about the book, the storyline and the fun he had in writing it.
He quoted a couple of his favorite passages to us, and made us laugh out loud too.
BSD – whew – glad the package arrived safely. Told ya it was big….tee hee…..
Keiko – you are a silly kitten. We have a silly kitten too. So we understand some of the things that silly kittens can be responsible for, without really being responsible.
We admit – it was a very hard day here. Many loose ends have now been tied up since the proper documents are now in hand. Serendipity – at the funeral, we played the Bill Withers song “Lean on Me” cuz that was how my brother was – always there for others. Today we drove by his apartment heading to his post office to officially close his address when that song came on the radio.
Its really hard to drive with tears in your eyes.
5:57 pm on December 16th, 2014
C.Hobbitt – we’re laughing here. You’re our kind of planner. Rio’s delicious cookies got here today and they are very, very good. I hope they last until Saturday so we can take them to a dinner party. That’s doubtful so therefore Mom will be baking and/or shopping in the next couple of days.
Amen to Beau’s Amens.
Bee – it’s a treasure you have, the ARC of Woof, signed and paw-printed. Yay.
5:59 pm on December 16th, 2014
Tupper’s Mama – a sign from beyond the bridge for the season, just for you.
6:25 pm on December 16th, 2014
T & G, that had to be a message from your brother.
We are wishing we had some of those cookies, but I know someone who would have no self control if they were sitting here. There is not one Christmas cookie in this house!
Barb started reading Gray Mountain and it is really good. It is Grisham’s’ new one. Hard for someone who is an environmentalist to read without getting totally stirred up.
6:37 pm on December 16th, 2014
Tupper’s Mama: Sniff.
6:54 pm on December 16th, 2014

Just got back from mailing a bunch of stuff. I stopped trying to go to the official Post Office branch a few miles away months ago. At the Post Office there are 2 employees on counter duty–one is knowledgeable, friendly and fast. The other is sullen, not helpful and slow as molasses. Often only one is on duty and it is painful when it is the sullen one. Someone told me that the hardware store near my house operates a post office in the back of the room. Yes indeed. The employees are knowledgeable, friendly and fast and they put extra people at the counter when there is a line so the wait time is minimal. I am a devoted user of this alternative. The UPS stores also give you a choice of sending via UPS or USPS. I do feel sorry for USPS employees as I know that during this season they have to work 14+ hour days and I see their trucks in the neighborhoods even on Sundays now. I think it has been years since the USPS branches have been able to hire extra help at Christmas.
7:16 pm on December 16th, 2014
Hobbit – yup, those little known post offices and branches are a blessing. Our village is tiny, so our post office doesn’t usually have a wait. But there are also a number of other tiny villages in the area, each with its own post office. We have learned to seek the PO with the fewest cars. Works every time.
We also understand your cookie, roca strategy. We are doing the same plan, only with egg nog and frozen pudding ice cream.
7:27 pm on December 16th, 2014
Our mom has a “frequent shipper” card at the UPS since they do not make her feel STUPID about not packing correctly. She also has a “frequent eater” card at the local Italian restaurant. What could be better when heading out to do errands. If anyone comes to Hixson, TN, they will get a great meal and fine fun at no cost!
7:29 pm on December 16th, 2014
Tupper’s Mama, we have “Moose Tracks” available for any and all visitors!
7:57 pm on December 16th, 2014
HOH, do you some things that are gluten free?
8:03 pm on December 16th, 2014
HOH, Several of my close quilting buddies have had Shingles this summer. I tried to get my Nephrologist to give me the vaccine when I saw him last week but the answer was no. Evidently it is a live vaccine and thus us immune compromised people can get it from the vaccine. I was really unhappy as the treatment seems to be pain meds till it goes away and both my friends were given meds that I am allergic to.
Since Shingles is very painful and I went through my hernia recovery on regular Tylenol I don’t feel very hopeful about that treatment.
The Doctor did tell me that they make all transplant patients take the vaccine before the transplant these days, but the vaccine wasn’t available when I was waiting.
I admit to some tears. sniff sniff
8:04 pm on December 16th, 2014
MPM, if y’all let us know what is gluten free, we will have it if’n y’all come to see us at any time. We love our blog family!
P.S. Have seen “gluten free” boxes at the market. We will try hard to be good hostesses with the mostesses
8:10 pm on December 16th, 2014
Staff – we are riding in that same boat, and hope that the only shingles we have are the ones on the roof.
MPM – in our grocery store, there are all kinds of boxes of gluten free baking mixes available. Remember the brownies when you were here? Those were Betty Crocker brand. They have a whole section in the regular baking aisle – all gluten free cookies, cakes, brownies, frostings etc.
8:11 pm on December 16th, 2014
Staff, when my spleen went to Italy and I had more vaccines than I knew existed, never thought about shingles. Told them about chickenpox BUT, who listens? Was sick for about 7 days after a shingles vaccine. ???
If you have a transplant they tell you one thing: if you lose an organ, they tell you another.
Lets just get on the dog sleds in Willow and “dammmmmmm” the consequences in March. I missed so much last year 🙁 I don’t want to miss that stuff again.
8:23 pm on December 16th, 2014
Darah, Thea woke mom up at 5:30 and she is fading fast. Check the in the a.m. potes to see what we say to tonight’s posts, please. Got to go. Where is Wose? Where is Rio? Where is ML? Friends, come home! Love y’all.
8:36 pm on December 16th, 2014
OK, Rio, we didn’t mean to whine. Dinner time, your time. Hope you are ok. Let us know what is happening in the world.
8:38 pm on December 16th, 2014
Royal Mum, I loved your brownies and now confess to taking them all the next day except the half brownie that my concience made me leave. Damn concience, I wanted that last half brownie too.

Cookies!…Well, it looks like there are 3 tins of Christmas Cookies out there in the big world at the mercy of the Postal Workers…grunt!…One tin has not even made it to Tennessee yet as far as I can tell…grump!…The other 2 are at least out of this state…sniff!

Tupper’s Maw, the song is most definitely a sign from your beloved brother. Mom has goosebumps.
Hobbit has us all cracking up. Backup plans for backup plans!
Staff, we are worrit for you. And for Mom, until they let her get that shot. And BooBear, tell your mama that, yep, our mama is so damn YOUNG!!! Ha ha ha!

O’HOwlers, well worrying is all I can do and since it is not healthy to worry I have decided to forget about it. Kathryn is here helping Dad to bed and getting his eye drops and Tylenol into his body. I think I will go upstairs and take my pills (before she talks my ears off)

Staff, Those out takes and bloopers are a hoot. I always loved the Carol Burnett Show, especially the scenes where they break down and can’t say their lines.
OK, I will give you an adversarial point of view, from a naturalist. I have not had a shot for shingles, pneumonia, the flu or anything else recently. I did get a flu shot once. I also do not take any prescription drugs. I did take some stuff that was prescribed after surgery in 2010 and last year for my knee, but generally I like to keep chemical out of my body. I didn’t even take drugs during childbirth. I am a healthy kook, I guess.

Off to bed for this group. Oh wait, Lucy is already in her bed! LOL
10:39 pm on December 16th, 2014

Nighty night from us, Guys. We keep falling asleep in front of the t.v., as usual.

Thanks so very much for the great send off before bed.
G’night, dear family.

Carol!..OMY Dawg!…I could watch all those shows over and over again…snorkel!….The queen of comedy and all her friends were the best ever…heh!heh!…Classic!
11:33 pm on December 16th, 2014
See – we think a TV show like that could still succeed today. We would watch a thousand of these shows before we would watch a single episode of the exploitive so-called reality shows that are on nowadays.
The straight out comedy, the stars not taking themselves so seriously, being willing to crack up themselves. THAT was entertainment!
11:33 pm on December 16th, 2014
Night!…I am going up to my warm soft bed where all my baseball toys are in all the right places…snuffle!…I might have to twirl a few times just because, but that is that…heh!yawn!
