Good morning Gang! And a very Happy Friday (best day of the week ioo). We really really like that review, especially the line about how Chet is much smarter and more insightful. We would have preferred the correct term “partner” rather than sidekick, but other than that, we are very pleased with this one.
(The Raymond Chandler part we can’t really judge since we never read those.)
9:11 am on January 4th, 2013
Good morning all.
9:39 am on January 4th, 2013
Just got caught up on all that we missed on yesterday/last night’s posts after we zoned out.
G&BB, HURRAY for your dad ringing out! and also for his great work support group.
Zoe, another transfusion? She must be seriously short on iron. Is she still scheduled to begin pt tomorrow?
YSAS OUT OUT OUT !!!(of course we already knew that when Kat landed in the Big Bed and the rents both let out a big OOF in the middle of the night).
9:42 am on January 4th, 2013
A good review but two comments. First, the review is of AFOC but the book pictured is TDWKTM. Second, as we have come to know, the reference in the sub-heading to “Spayed” is inaccurate in at least two respects.
10:02 am on January 4th, 2013
Heh,
Wookie’s Dad, You are funny this morning.
10:09 am on January 4th, 2013
Wöökie’s Dad, I was laughing about that “Spayed”.
G&BB, can’t wait to read your news. It will have to be this afternoon.
Got a call from Zoë at 7 am. She was at the hospital and they had lost the paperwork.
I called the doctor’s office, left a message. I called the Rehab person and explained what was going on. She said, “She’s not coming back without that transfusion! She NEEDS it.” So she called the doctor’s office and the hospital.
I called the hospital and got clear what was missing. Some permit that the doctor signs and they hadn’t received it.
I called the doctor’s office and said I know it wasn’t their fault (hospital looses a lot of FAXs) but how was this being handled. Zoë’ doc wasn’t there but the one on call had called the hospital and explained that a hospitalist would have to do it.
I called where she was, and listened to the person explain she was now waiting for a hospitalist. I asked to talk to Zoe and told her what was going on.
I called the Rehab place and left a message they had done everything right and thank you very much.
That was all before 7:15. My eye is twitching.
10:11 am on January 4th, 2013
On the other happier paw,
Picture of YSAS when he heard he was getting sprung. Thank you to Dr. Sam and the Smoochers!

10:11 am on January 4th, 2013
The sinus rinse that Rio mentioned last night is Neil Med. Mommy and Molly’s Mom both use it. They like it in the squeeze bottle.
10:16 am on January 4th, 2013
Melanie, the hospital didn’t tell me the final diagnosis. Was it food poisoning? A can of soup?
10:17 am on January 4th, 2013
Bee or Barb, you both talked about The Forgotten Garden, and one of you mentioned that it was by the same writer as The House at Riverton, which we read and remember liking. We have been trying to decide what next to read now that we finally finished the great Civil War history tome by James McPherson. Sounds like you both recommend The Forgotten Garden?
10:17 am on January 4th, 2013
Clarkson!…heh!snort!heh!…funny guy and happy too…snort!
Sammie!…Yes, Neil Med – thats just the thing for sinus’s and supposedly it does not hurt at all…grunt!…One would think shooting warm saline up one side of yer nostril and having it come out the other side would, but I guess it doesn’t…heh!sneeze!
10:18 am on January 4th, 2013
Dr. Princess Sam, For sure it was not yogurt. 🙂
10:20 am on January 4th, 2013
Momma uses something like that once in awhile, but hers is called Nasaline. Now you got her thinking she is due.
10:25 am on January 4th, 2013
Oleys, Mommy loved The Forgotten Garden!
10:31 am on January 4th, 2013
Thanks Sam. This sounds like a definite then.
Did you guys see those 2 books talked about right after the review of AFOC/TDWKTM? Sound fun.
10:31 am on January 4th, 2013
Melanie: you amaze me. I recall when my parents were elderly and were occasionally in the hospital, one really had to stay on top of things. I always wondered what people do when they don’t have family members to help or don’t have family members near by.
10:32 am on January 4th, 2013
On a lighter note: What will they think of next? Would you wear a tail that reacts to your heartbeat and wags when you are happy? The inventor is still trying to find investors for production. It is described as
“Tailly is fun to wear to parties, while out with friends or playing with kids. You could even wear Tailly on a date and express your true feelings through the wagging tail. Even better, your partner could also wear one for the both of you to add a level of subconscious communication between the two of you.”

10:48 am on January 4th, 2013
We loved the revieww. Liked the Pup Fiction heading, and the Sam Spayed (even tho inaccurate as Wookie’s Dad pointed out).
Oley, Are you talking about the James McPherson Civil War book that weighs about 10 lbs? It is like a college text book, and the very one that brother Dave wanted for Christmas. It is only available in paperback if you buy it new, so we ordered it thru B & N and received a hardcover book from a book store in Portland. That is the book that we mentioned was going to cost $23.00 to mail priority mail. Hard cover has been out of publication for awhile.
10:50 am on January 4th, 2013
And speaking of spaying….. I bet A & L would agree with this one!

11:07 am on January 4th, 2013
Gus&BooBear: Happy Howls for your Dad & the Bell Ringing!!!
O.Howlers: Just reading about reading that Huge tome is making us tired.
Good Review for Chet.
Good Day Everyone.
11:13 am on January 4th, 2013
Howlers: Yes, I would recommend The Forgotten Garden.
The “saline” rinse only hurts if you use plain water without salt.
YSAS’ expression says it all!
11:13 am on January 4th, 2013
OMD! That is too too funny, C.Hobbit! We always suspected our 2-leegeds of tail-envy.
B&M, it is probably the same althought James McPherson has written a lot of Civil War history books. The one we read was Battle Cry of Freedom. It was very large but since we read it on our Kindle, we weren’t intimidated by its size so much. It is a wealth of information … much different perspective than Mom ever had in any history classes in h.s. or college. And the similarities to today are astounding. Mom doesn’t read very much in the winter as she finds it easier to curl up in front of t.v. after work/chores/dinner. She reads much much more in summber because she is always outdoors then.
11:14 am on January 4th, 2013
Gus&BooBear: That is excellent news.
11:14 am on January 4th, 2013
Greetings to All!
YSAS looks much better. Gotta hand it to the Smoochers!
11:15 am on January 4th, 2013
Please excuse all of those typos. sigh.
11:17 am on January 4th, 2013
Oley, Yes that is the same book. Someone told Dave that if was going to read only one Civli War book, then read Battle Cry for Freedom. The actual book is huge!
Good News G & B. Tail wags for your dad.
11:26 am on January 4th, 2013
CHobbit – Mama said she would much rather have a Wrotten Kat style of tail. Then when she got miffed with someone, maybe they would notice the slashing tail BEFORE she had to blow up and shred them into a grease spot
11:32 am on January 4th, 2013
Barb, Mom really loved that book, even thought it is huge. It is the very best civil war book she has read (and she has read many). The way she heard about it was from an article she read that asked various historians for their favorite books on Lincoln. Surprisingly, Doris Kearns Goodwin (our very fav historian) gave this one as her favorite history book on Lincoln because “that shows how Lincoln prevailed under pressure during the Civil War”. Here is the full article:

11:48 am on January 4th, 2013
Mr.Staff has read that McPherson book. He liked it. He likes to read history. I don’t read much of it. Except about England during the second world war.
11:58 am on January 4th, 2013
Another fait accompli. YSAS’s photo says it all.
CHobbit: As the HerbKats have pointed out – the tail is a most important method of communication. Perhaps the 2-leggeds would find them useful.
Melanie: That last line in your earlier post reminds us of a certain Inspector Clouseau.
12:05 pm on January 4th, 2013
Speaking of history and England, Downot Abbey comes back this weekend! Hurray!
12:06 pm on January 4th, 2013
Umm that would be Downton Abbey.
12:11 pm on January 4th, 2013
Abbiethe Kitty: Is that a new avatar?
12:15 pm on January 4th, 2013
Kat, I just want to thank your momma again for sending me the picture of you on the Chesapeake. I have it as my desktop picture, and everyone comments on what a beautiful Kat you are.
12:18 pm on January 4th, 2013
Melanie, Please clarify. Was if food poisoning or flu and what was the reference to the soup and the baby potatoes?
12:25 pm on January 4th, 2013
Wose, Momma thinks this picture from the same trip is better. She calls it “Krabby Kat”.

12:25 pm on January 4th, 2013
Barb&Magpie: Sounds almost like food poisoning, doesn’t it? Bad can of soup?
12:26 pm on January 4th, 2013
O.Howlers: What a Great photo!
12:49 pm on January 4th, 2013
Youse guys will like this. Momma just told me about a dream she had 2 nights ago. We were living in a city neighborhood. Momma was letting us (Howlers? Smoochers?) out for the day. She watched as we single-filed down the stoop steps, and she noticed that I had a bag attached to my side. Think messenger-type bag. She looked closer and could see that I was wearing my harness and that is how my bag, with all of my supplies, was attached.
What does this mean? Am I getting a new little bag, like Belly Star’s pink sparkly one?
12:52 pm on January 4th, 2013
Lincoln!…snort!…Doris Kearns Goodwin is an exellant writer. I do believe she wrote the book used for part of the Lincoln film that someone here wants to see very badly…grunt!
Water!…If you use plain water for a sinus rinse be prepared to experience more pain than you ever thought possible in your face…heh!heh!…I’ve witnessed this happen one time when someone forgot to add the saline part…chorkel!
12:52 pm on January 4th, 2013
Rebecca!… Check your SDD – and by george you’ve got it!…snort!
12:53 pm on January 4th, 2013
Spayed!
I don’t usually read the reviews but this one was short and sweet.
Neutered – not spayed!
Presumably there are more male weird friends and relatives than female ones.
CHobbitH: I love those tails.
Melanie: Sheesh! Will you get any rest and relaxation today?
1:42 pm on January 4th, 2013
Melanie!…When Dan The Man was in the hopital/rehab he had the same sort of problems…snort!…What’s up with that?
1:50 pm on January 4th, 2013
Snowhook!…Okay, where do we stand on all the fund raising campaigns for Snowhook?…snort!…Beau just informed me that our treatie funds have been re-stocked, so that means I have some cold hard cash to throw around from his fund…heh!heh!

Letter!…I read the letter “R” and my brain filled in the rest, it assumed you meant me!…snort!
4:42 pm on January 4th, 2013
Rose, I did change my avatar about a few weeks ago. You are the only one who noticed, but since I don’t post very much (Alice is so busy on the blog I hardly get a chance) I am not surprised that no one noticed.
5:02 pm on January 4th, 2013
Funding, you ask?
So far, we have fully sponsored 2 Snowhook Doggies: Twig and Orion, thanks to the Amazing and Awesome Drew Sisters.
We have begun sponsorship of our 3rd Snowhook teammember: Charlie (he of the earodynamic floppy ears). We need $300 more to complete his sponsorship. Come on, Plunderers! Help get Charlie to the Iditarod Start!!!
5:06 pm on January 4th, 2013
Hello everyone . . YAAAWWWNNNN . . Sorry.
Zoe has color in her face and it’s not grey, black, blue, yellow or green. She has roses in her cheeks!
Riö, please thank Beau for the start of the checkpoint. Though you may clean his butt. I clean enough butts here. At this stage I think it should be named . . GET SOME SLEEP checkpoint.
After delivering clothes and such to Zoë and remarking on her blushing beauty, I came home to find Jesse with 1st degree chemical burns on his hands. We have no idea how he got them. I don’t use ANYTHING that would cause this, but I’m being very careful. Got him home. Came back and started washing everything that he cleaned with today. I have the dog room door open to the outside.
I’m really at a loss. Also tired.
5:08 pm on January 4th, 2013
Barb and MagPie, he had a sore throat. The other problem was caused by a viral contaminated can of soup.
The potatoes? Eating those got him sprung from the hospital.
Kat, don’t worry. It was not the yogurt. How much yogurt did you eat? YSAS said there were containers hidden in beds, gurneys, crash carts . .
5:14 pm on January 4th, 2013
Gus and BooBear, I teared up reading about your Dad’s ringing out! That is just grand. Can’t wait to see the pictures.
6:00 pm on January 4th, 2013
Melanie, I don’t remember how many comtainers I ate; suffice it to say no intestinal issues in this here belly.
So it was a sort of food poisoning? carpola!
6:31 pm on January 4th, 2013
AbbieTheKitty:
I was not on the blog much in the last 2 weeks, but I noticed today. My, but what a lovely picture of Abbie, I said.
6:33 pm on January 4th, 2013
Kat, what is your favorite kind of yogurt?
6:37 pm on January 4th, 2013
Rio: I often get you and my Lady mixed up. The resemblance is uncanny.
I have shown Lefty and Charlie the ways of the quilt. Both started feeling less than tip-top yesterday. My Lady is working from home today so the Giant could go into town to work; she has been keeping a close eye on them all day. Both had an appetite this morning. That made her happy which makes me happy.
7:12 pm on January 4th, 2013
Hello Everyone!
My computer is out of the ICU. What was wrong with it is interesting: It seems there is a battery in it that takes care of the time and date. The battery died and when that happens, Windows won’t run on the computer.
We are making good progress on the checkpoints and bootie fund!! WOO WOO
7:15 pm on January 4th, 2013
Good to have you back, Siber-H!
7:17 pm on January 4th, 2013
Where are T&G today?
7:18 pm on January 4th, 2013
OOOooooo, the small dogs have sponsorship! Don’t worry about our booties, I will make sure that the team is all wearing suitable footwear in a stylish color.
7:21 pm on January 4th, 2013
Good to have you back, Siber!
We had not heard of this…one more thing to go wrong…grump.
7:22 pm on January 4th, 2013
Golinka is no doubt wrestling with Windows 8.
7:23 pm on January 4th, 2013
Macy: We can give you and the rest of the small dogs a puggy back ride if you get tired, too.
7:25 pm on January 4th, 2013
Thank you Wose and Masquers.
7:31 pm on January 4th, 2013
SiberH: Good to have you back! I hope you were wearing your seatbelt when you computer crashed.
7:33 pm on January 4th, 2013
Wose, I don’t know about yogurt flavors. I asked Momma. She said I like PLAIN.
Welcome back Siber!
7:37 pm on January 4th, 2013
Siber-H – Your computer had something like the Y2K problem. Computers can’t work without a timestamp and the timestamp includes a date.
7:39 pm on January 4th, 2013
If they made beef flavored yogurt—that would be my favorite. Today I, with Annabelle’s help, made off with beef my mama was going to give to everyone this morning. I’ve had beef burps all day. Worth it.
7:47 pm on January 4th, 2013
Tenzing, can I come live with you so you can mentor me?
7:48 pm on January 4th, 2013
Kat: You stick with me kid, and I’ll teach you everything I know.
8:00 pm on January 4th, 2013
Wose: The Herbs posted today, but not T&G. We better check our post office box.
8:00 pm on January 4th, 2013
Tenzing, at least they were only burps.
Rolling, rolling, rolling
Keep Chet’s blog a’moving
I’ll read more in the morning
Good Night
8:20 pm on January 4th, 2013
I saw Hyde Park on Hudson. It was interesting. There was a tv show years ago that told the story from Eleanor’s point of view.
I’m glad Mollypop’s Mom explained the problem SiberH was having with his computer.
8:25 pm on January 4th, 2013
Clarification!….grunt!…I do NOT and WILL NOT EVER clean Beau’s butt…grump!sniff!…My friend however has to do the dirty deed every now and then especially if it was a very large bush he decided to cartwheel up and poop on during our walks….wheeze!…He used to get all pug-vicious and try and bite the wet towel or my friend…heh!…Now it seems like he enjoys it….gah!
8:30 pm on January 4th, 2013
Soup!…What kind of canned soup caused Clarkson to lose all his cookies?…grunt!…That is very disturbing news…sniff!
8:32 pm on January 4th, 2013
🙂 Checkpoint Announcement! 🙂
The last checkpoint has been sponsored in honor of Rescues everywhere. Many of the Plunderers are rescues or involved in rescue organizations and Snowhook Kennels is no stranger to rescues. This checkpoint is now open for donations!
That makes all the checkpoints claimed for sponsorship.
WhoooHooooo! Go Snowhook! Plunder On!
8:40 pm on January 4th, 2013
Woohoo! A checkpoint is snagged in honor of the rescues! What is a rescue? This morning when my mama was doing chores, I tackled her. I hugged her. She hugged me back. It’s kind of our thing. She called me Grateful, not a rescue. She calls Elmer and Florence, my friends from our before-place, Grateful, too. Is Grateful the same as Rescue?
8:43 pm on January 4th, 2013
Checkpoint!…Mania!…WoooOOOOOoooOOOOoooOOO!…Now the Giants can select a checkpoint for Melanie and Zoe, Macy and the Small Dogs, and the Rescues…wheeze!….Should be easy-peesy!…snort!
8:49 pm on January 4th, 2013
A rescue checkpoint! Woo Hooo! Mama Meash told me I was rescued. Rescued from what, I asked? She said I was rescued from a life not my own. She told me that Sasha, Dima, and she were all rescued from the same sort of life…not their own. So count us in on that there checkpoint, Awesome!
9:17 pm on January 4th, 2013
Rescue!…Now even Beau can have a checkpoint…snort!…Although he was sort of “dropped off” and never picked up again instead of rescued…sniff!
9:33 pm on January 4th, 2013
Rio: Beef burp!
9:43 pm on January 4th, 2013
Tenzing!…Buuuurp!…Right back attcha…chorkel!
9:47 pm on January 4th, 2013
Rio: Headbump!
Kat: Did your mom’s dream come true? Did you get a sparkly backpack? Belle Starr recommeds getting one with a compartment for your chapstick.
9:55 pm on January 4th, 2013
AJ is still in town, so my Lady is putting back on her chore suit and heading out to do the evening chores of feed, water, scoop and love. Annabelle and I are taking bets of how much more meat we can procure.
10:01 pm on January 4th, 2013
Tenzig. Is your lady wearing her Carharts?
Alice wants to know.
10:03 pm on January 4th, 2013
I just had lots of cheese, Tenzing. Mmmm good. Momma says my bag was not sparkly, but maybe denim. She said I’m a practical girl, whatever that means. Tomorrow, she is taking me to get my paw fixed. It has been hurting for awhile and tonight became inflamed between my toes. Wish me luck.
10:09 pm on January 4th, 2013
Wookie’s-Paw!…. Please check your SDD when at all possible…snort!
10:23 pm on January 4th, 2013
I hope that Kat’s toes and Lefty and Charlie feel better fast.
I tried to “clean my sinuses” and almost choked on salt water, snorkle.
10:26 pm on January 4th, 2013
Dawson!…You are not supposed to suck it down your throat!…snort!… I do not know the exact technique, but I do know that my friend bends over not backwards when she does this thing…heh!
10:48 pm on January 4th, 2013
Oh, I was definitely bend over sideways over the sink drain. Do you mean to make your throat higher than your nose? I better re-google. Heh!
10:54 pm on January 4th, 2013
Dawson!…It might take practice…snort!…I know that someone here would have trouble with saline going down her throat if her sinus’s were swollen or sumthing…grunt!…She really should rinse hers again because of all the flu going around…sniff!…Rinsing your sinus’s along with taking Airborn at the first sign of trouble really prevents some nasty bugs in humans…..wheeze!…My friend washes her paws A LOT too….gurgle!
11:13 pm on January 4th, 2013
Alice: My Lady wore her heavy, winter chore suit that is ripped, covered in dog fur, and smells like each and everyone of us. She probably should have worn the carhart coveralls, becasue she just got back in from chores and is sweating! Her hair was straight when she went out and is curly and frizzy when she came back inside.
Annabelle and I were thwarted in our efforts to procure more beef tonight. Our Lady, channeled her inner-AJ and took the ax to the five pound block of beef and before we knew it the beef was in the buckets and out of our reach. It would have been a thing of beauty, except I deducted points for not getting any beef in my belly.
11:16 pm on January 4th, 2013
Beef!…Cooked or Raw???…snort!…I’ve never had raw beef before, in fact is there really such a thing?…grunt!
11:20 pm on January 4th, 2013
Raw! We here at the kennel love it. We also get frozen raw fish and chicken skins. Oh, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Does this ever happen to you.
11:23 pm on January 4th, 2013
OMY-DAWG!….snort!…Very very excited to be boxed up by professional boxers and sent up North to Alaska…snort!snort!…I’m dying to try it all Raw!….Wooooo!…I could even roll in it and wrap those chicken skins around me…heh!heh!..burp!
11:29 pm on January 4th, 2013
Ish. Really Rio, show some common sense. Oh wait, you are a PUG. Never mind.
I think kats are more fastidious.
I know Alice is.
Nighty Noodle everyone. Except Liz in OZ. G’day Liz.
11:33 pm on January 4th, 2013
AbbieThe
FatKat!….You are such a prude when it comes to food….snort!…Hey, that rhymes!11:44 pm on January 4th, 2013

Mama says we are much better at expressing her feelings tonight. Tails lashing, hissing and spitting, claws fully extended, she says “&$)(&)/(:)$ Windows 8 was created by a sadistic nincompoop who had delusions of Mac-ability. “.
She went to her computer lesson today only to find that the tutor didn’t know 8 at all – hadn’t even seen it before. And she was astounded at how non-intuitive it is. It takes 4 steps to do some if the basic tasks that take one step in the old system. For example – there is a “mail” window on the start page. If you go there for your email and have something that you want to print out, you have to copy it, then open Word, paste it into a blank document, then print that. WHAT???
AND – you can’t see emails that are more than 2 weeks old in that window …. even if you have put them in a folder.
The designer of 8 is a blithering idiot!
