No moon. That always makes the stars brighter, at least in my opinion. Bernie and I are out on the patio, just gazing.

“There’s this new theory, big guy,” he says. “All about multiple universes. Ours would be just one of many. And I mean many. In this multiverse system there’d be so many that it’s a dead certainty that there’d be another universe identical to ours. See the implications?”

If implications were out there, I was missing them. The stars looked the same as always.

“The implication,” Bernie said, “is that in this other universe at this very moment, another Chet and Bernie are doing exactly what we are, gazing at the stars and having a conversation about us.”

Another Chet and Bernie? We’ve been working pretty hard lately, and when that happens Bernie doesn’t get enough sleep. I’ll have to keep an eye on him.

    Good morning, y’all! If there were another Chet and Bernie, would they be having the same amazing adventures? Or would they be having adventures of their own? Because in that case, maybe they would have their own Spence who writes up Chet’s musings, and maybe there’s a whole ‘nother series we could read? If they could ship it here past the marauding goats? Theirs and ours? Hmmmm. Pondering.

    Good morning, we may be the first today if we post fast enough.

    We have always believed in multiple universes, glad Bernie agrees. Chet doesn’t much care.

    Barb is heading to the suburbs this morning, probably buying a car. She wants to get this over with before the storm hits. All hell is going to break out in the Midwest tomorrow. Further south of us, huge ice storms, which are more destructive than the snow. We are on the north end of the storm, so we are looking at 9-12″ of snow and 50 mile per hour winds. Brrrr!
    South of here, across southern Il, Mo, and In. they will get ice first, and up to 24″ of snow. This is our first really bad one this winter, so we have been lucky.

    Hope things continue to go smoothly for Wolfie and family. Glad that Bee and Macy’s mom seemed better yesterday. And, Melanie, how was your first night back upstairs?

    They said on the news that Cairo, Egypt is a popular place for students to go for their jr. year abroad. Glad Rosie is NOT there!

    Have to sign off till later in the day. BBML

    Hey, did anybody read Sunday’s Parade magazine? Mom doesn’t always get to read the Sunday paper before she goes to church, so she just got around to it. She started laughing and showed me why. On the back page are some cartoons — she was laughing at the middle one. It shows two Viking warriors heading into battle. One is holding a sword, and he says to the other, who is hoisting a plunger, “Plunder, you idiot! We’re here to plunder.”

    *******PARTY UPDATE*******

    I have managed to rent ALL of the fancy suites for us. The bad news is that I had to promise the teams that Rio will be wonder- fluffed on national TV. For the halftime show. The good news is that Rio will be wonder-fluffed on national TV. Thanks, Rio, for taking one for the blog.

    Of course, the Pack and Siberia H will want to be out on the field, chasing the ball. Chet too!

    I have also hired the Goodyear blimp to fly various banners for us, all involving Orange Boxes. Suggestion are welcomed.

    We lucked out because all of the fancy suites come with their own catering services. All we need to bring is our favorite specialty items.

    I wonder if I have time to teach everyone how to blur? That would solve the transportation problems. We better not risk it though. Someone might accidently end up with another Chet in one of those alternate universes.

    There can’t be a universe “identical to ours.” That is physically impossible. “Implications” is equivalent to imagination. A parallel universe is science fiction which may be fun but it isn’t real. Yes, Chet, keep an eye on Bernie.

    Good morning all.

    Wolfie, you’re funny. Rio being wunderfluffed on national tv…? I hope things are going well at home for you.

    Wooooo!!! heh, heh (since we are in the alternate universe too)

    Some uses for beaver tails:
    cut two small holes for eyes and use as a lone ranger mask;
    glue it on a stick and you can use as a fan;
    a fly swatter;
    a child pattler;
    slap it on a desk instead of a gavel;
    gross wimpy people out with it;
    a bookmark for large sized books;
    leave it stored until you die and let your children deal with it;
    frame it;
    sew it on a bag for decoration;
    send it to Mike Baker.

    Downton Abby had some surprises in it. I’m glad there will be more in March. I really love the story & the actors.

    T&G: This is for you. It was in the paper re Jerry Brown, our new Governor…”It’s Sutter’s world – where a small dog leads the pack
    Another big change at the Capitol can be seen within the “horseshoe,” the nickname for the governor’s U-shaped area of offices: The top dog is now a dog.
    Sutter, a Pembroke Welsh corgi belonging to Brown’s sister, literally has the run of the place. The short, stubby pup bounds around the office all day, begging for scraps of food and scratches from indulgent staffers, who are also happy to open doors for him. Brown and his wife, Ann Gust Brown, have been hosting the canine while they decide whether to keep him. We’re guessing he’s won some hearts and minds already.”

    We do not see any Corgis around here. We did not see any Pugs either until just lately I have seen a puppy Pug at Starbucks and was he ever cute…

    YSAS was once in a play called “String Fever”. It had the String Theory in it, which proposes there are 11 dimensions to the “Everything”.

    He called and said can you tell me what the String Theory is? I did research, came up with a “Everyman” synopsis, discussed it with him and then promptly forgot the whole thing.

    Not sure it had different universes though.

  53. Melanie
    2:52 pm on January 31st, 2011

    One beautiful Spring evening, my guys and I were sitting outside watching the river and discussing life. We hit on the topic of multi-universes.

    One “theory” is that a decision reached creates another universe. So if I had decided to not marry their father, they would not be in that “tree” of multiple universes. But since I did, all of us were in this “tree” of multiple universes. The “tree” would be the first decision would be the trunk of the tree and then as each choice was made smaller and smaller branches appearing.

    Well, that got us thinking about power points in the world. I am a dowser, (Bet you didn’t know that!) and using rods can find things in the earth. Water pipes, our drain field, stuff like that. Well, once I tried doing power points in the earth. I found the rods following lines that connected to one another. Pretty cool. Didn’t do anything about it, because, you know, got other things to do in life.

    But that evening we decided that if something was really old that it would have more power in it than something newer. Like a 200 year old tree would have lots of power because it would be in a lot of different universes. In fact, we have a “Pound” near us up in the woods. A Pound is where two or three towns lines meet and the townsmen put up a stone wall to put lost cattle or other stock so people could find them. This pound is amazing. It’s huge and has a lot of over 200 year old trees in it. So we decided that it had a lot of power.

    What did we do? I had another Virgin Mary and my guys had another beer and we talked of other things. . .

    Working from home – coooooool.

  72. Barb & Maggie
    8:27 pm on January 31st, 2011

    Barb is back home. She bought a 2010 Ford Escape with 24,000 miles on it. Dealer had a bunch that they bought from Ford. It is cute and she loves it, but got part way home and the car started vibrating (not shaking) as she went from 50 to 60 mph. When she test drove it, she didn’t go that fast. It is under warranty, so she called the dealer before she even got home. They don’t seem to think it is serious, but she will go back on Sat. and have them look at it. There is another one there for $1,000 more, so she may trade it for that one. She loved the Sabarus, but there are no close by dealers, so she decided to go with a Chevy or Ford, and then pick a small 4 wheel drive vehicle.

    She is sticking close to home till the storm passes. Tomorrow will be a doozy. Supposed to be the worst storm sine 1967! Yikes!

She decided we needed to watch the 2nd episode of An Idiot Abroad tonight before Lie To Me comes on….snort!… She thinks watching poor Carl go through way more misery than she did today will help somehow…gruffle!… I just think he is funny…heh!…Oh boy, now she has burnt her sausages…grumble!

    You guys sure are having bad weather.

    BTW, I would like to send a smile to Mike B, not a beaver’s bottom.

    We here in “sunny” Texas are even in store for some “near blizzard” conditions. Crazy darn weather; Sunday is supposed to be 60 and sunny. The Super Bowl committee must have some powerful connections.

    I am so sorry to hear of everyone’s approaching storm. I checked the forecast up here for the week and we are to be above zero. Usually that means you guys are getting our winter weather.

    This warming trend in mid-winter that has occurred for a few years is causing havoc up here in the arctic. You can imagine what will happen if our permafrost starts melting. A few villages have had to move inland, in southern Alaska millions of acres of spruce trees are infested with a beetle and are dying, the few paved highways we have are in danger of breaking up.

    WOW the message sent itself… my advice is to stay home and stay warm. Snuggle up with your critters and some hot chocolate. Employers shouldn’t make people work under these conditions. A lot of people are going to be hurting. [I just got a delivery of oil at $3.50 per gallon and got 300 gallons. You do the math.]

    Liz, it is hard to image 100 degrees. That’s bad too. Take care everyone

    Hey, y’all — I’m back! Lucky for us, the worst thing we have in the forecast is rain. I feel bad for all of you who are having or are anticipating ice storms — those things are awful!

    Opps!…Part of the post got lost in translation!…grunt!…Here is the whole thing…sniff!

    Liz!…Working from home in the winter is like paid time-off with a fast computer to play with for my friend…heh!…Still, it is a big relief knowing she will not be on the frozen highway of death tomorrow morning…snuffle!

    Rio: So glad your friend doesn’t have to go to work tomorrow. Wouldn’t it be nice to work at home all the time? Too bad we can’t all write like PA/SQ!

    9:16 pm on January 31st, 2011

    Yes, frozen highway of death is good to avoid.

    Charris, what’s happening to the arctic region is too terrible to think about. Particularly bad about the spruce trees – they are our lungs!

    OMG!… We didn’t think we could be shocked to the extent that we both are right now by this show (idiot abroad: India)….gah!…. But we are in total disbelief and now she doesn’t feel at all like eating sausages….sniff! … I sure wish Wookie had the time to watch this extraordinary documentary….wheeze!…His commentary would be priceless to say the least….gasp!

    Ugh!…Even the very imaginative Charming Mr. Abrahams has not thought of this… activity…gurgle!

    Mama’s home! And she’s home for the rest of the week, due to the upcoming storm.
    The Crazy Lady called her at work today cuz she had been watching the weather channel and they said we would get a really bad storm and there would be lots of power outages. So people should have generators, candles, flashlights, bottled water etc. Crazy Lady wanted to know where to go to buy said items, since she has only lived here for 3 YEARS,and doesn’t know her way around yet. And she didn’t have any of those things because we hadn’t had any bad storms for the past three years. But then Mama remembered that the Crazy Lady moved here from the tippy top of New Hampshire…so…how come she doesn’t know how to prepare for a bad snowstorm???? Cuz she’s a Crazy Lady…

    I’m glad your friend won’t be driving to work tomorrow, Rio. I hope everyone that could be in danger from these storms is able to stay inside and be safe and warm.

    We don’t have ice storms here. The roads and highways could get icy and slick, but no real ice storms that bring down trees and knock the power out for days.

    I checked Chet and Bernie’s weather…they will be missing all of this except for a couple of days of cooler temperatures.

    Rio may have exaggerated a bit (like about 25 degrees) when he said it would be 30 below tonight.

    SiberH!…That is what our wonderful weathermen are saying about the wind chill –10 to –30…grunt!…We like to err on the dark side. Plus, you are not here so there.…sniff!…Somehow I will have to go out in that cold temperature soon and tomorrow….grump!

    Rio, You are under a wind chill warning. It will be BAD so dash outside just as quick as you can.
    Macy and I are under a winter storm warning. I will believe it when I see it here. My folks have told me not to get my hopes up.
    I have been looking at everyone’s weather on the internet.
    T&G I am keeping my paws crossed for snow. I keep looking outside and not one flake is falling. I don’t even smell it yet.

    C.Harris, I did the math and then I passed out.

    Charris!…Is it really worth it to live like an Eskimo?….grunt!… We here are miserable in this deep freeze. The ice and the wind and the fog and the ice then the wind…plus the fog…grump!… It all makes us wonder why?? …sniff! …Why?

    We are approaching the #100 posting, so we will say good night. Will be back tomorrow morning, as long as we still have power. Stay warm everyone!

    Afraid!….I’m afraid if I go to sleep I will deep freeze in my bed….snort!… This is awful. She won’t let me under the covers on the big bed anymore. Not since I jumped off and hurt my shoulder…grump!… I’ve begged and begged and she says, “No! Go to your own bed!”…sob!…I will freeze to death tonight I bet…snuff!…It’s so cold even though she turned up the heat. I won’t let her put a sweater on me though, no way…grump!…That’s for sissy’s, so I will have to freeze to death tonight….wheeze!

    Warnings!…. All the weather warnings have moved us into action…snort!…We are gearing up to go downstairs and replace the furnace filter, and make sure the little storage room under the bathroom has its door closed against the garage coldness…gruff!…Action that’s what I like late at night…yawn! shiver! brrrr!

    11:12 pm on January 31st, 2011

    A sweater is not for sissy’s, Rio. They are for dogs that have shorter hair. Or, may I suggest a blanket. Mom has put blankets over her dogs in the past. (not huskies)
    Mom agrees with your friend that you should not jump off the bed anymore.

    good night all…stay safe and warm. We are going outside now for “last call”. Who knows, maybe I will see a snowflake.

    I see the dark side in my future! So I’m going to say good night.

    Gosh Staff had a tummy ache all day today so she has been napping and grumping around. It is almost as bad as Rio.
    Then she put down the extra food and ALICE snuck in and ate it before I could get there. I ALWAYS get the extra food. Hurumph!
    She is going to bed now and I can tell she is going to dump me off the computer right away.

    But I wanted to tell you we are working on plans to get everyone to the SB party that include dog-sleds and Lear Jets. Depending on the weather. So everyone who needs a ride let me know and I will figure out the plane and dog-sled itinerary.
    Whoo Hooo!
    Mr Husky, be prepared to deploy at a moments notice. You and the newfs will be on call….

    11:36 pm on January 31st, 2011

    Rio – we can’t get on the big bed either – same reason, short legs, long way down. But we love our beds! Mama cut a big, thick foam mattress topper in pads for our baskets, and then we have our blankies. And we ain’t no sissy Corgis. We’re tuff, but its COLD tonight. So wear your sweater or get a blankie and go to bed. Talk to you all tomorrow – as long as we have electricity….

    AbbieTheKat!…No one has officially said they will pick me up and take me to Texas for the party….snuff!…I have been given permission to leave for the party, but I definitely would be just as happy to stay here at home for the big game….gruffle!…So no one need bother about me. I am sure you will all live without the Cottage Cheese and Green Onion mixture that someone here is ready to make on a moments notice….hmmmm!

    Night-All! There has been no takers for my safe transportation to Texas so this fact amongst many others means I will be staying home safe and sound with my friend for this years Supper Bowl!…heh!…Good enough for me, let me tell you all!…gruffle!….Forget it, she needs me more than you weirdoes and your Wonderfuff on National TV does…grump!…Don’t even try to put me there. I am staying here with my friend and we will have a great time….sniff!….At first I thought maybe it was a good idea until Wolfie and Dawson destroyed it with all their weird visions of scars and beaver tails and televised wonderfluff crappola. A grim vision indeed!…snort!…It is a vision that only non-sports fans could come up with, so Count Me Out…grump!
