Can This Possibly Be True?

“Since the MF [magnetic field] is calm in only about 20 % of the daylight period” I’m wondering why it matters. (Quoted from the study rather than the Fox News article.)
“Couldn’t research dollars be spent on other things?” she asks meekly.
Good morning all.
9:23 am on January 3rd, 2014
Good morning, everyone! Perhaps this article should be relegated to the to the #2 pile? Anyway…Hope those with really cold weather are safe and warm, that Melanie’s dr conference is positive, that Rebecca is feeling a bit better, that T&G”s Mama is improving, that Nana get hot water SOON and that all the rest of all y’all have a fabutastic Friday!
9:54 am on January 3rd, 2014
I put out thistle seed as well as sunflower seed. The birds are feasting.
The sun is shining brightly and the wind chill is minus 18.
10:00 am on January 3rd, 2014
Mom puts out a thistle sock, a sunflower feeder, suet (2 kinds) and a “songbird” mix. Unfortunately, the rodents like the songbird, BUT even the hairy, downey, flicker and pileated woodpeckers are grinning. Perhaps she should order bird seed by the truck load?….Nah.
10:02 am on January 3rd, 2014
Good morning, everyone! I keep getting lost in this snow. One minute I’m walking and there is hardly any snow. The next minute, I am sunk in up to my ears. Carpola!
It is currently sunny, 11 degrees, with a wind chill of -8, whatever that is. Mom says it will be way way colder later today and frigid tonight: -2 expected in the city, which means much colder and windier here on my farm.
Momma was worried about those chickies, so Pop swapped out the light bulb for the heatlamp. Now Momma is not worried about them being too cold; instead, she is worried about the coop catching fire. Moms…can’t live with them…can’t stop them from worrying.
10:06 am on January 3rd, 2014
Our guy is here doing the snow blowing. And Zoรซ is outside getting to the cars. There’s a windchill factor of -27 right now.
Our guy, Tom, has a new black lab. He is waiting for Tom in the truck. He is watching his every move.
I am noticing this from my easy chair. (Yes, B. Stover, I have one)
In interest of furthering science for Admin, I checked our Thrones. Two are in the N/S situation, and one in the E/W position. Luckily, we don’t use that one as often. Since it is off the dog room – where the water bowls had a thin coating of ice this morning – it is snigglefritzing cold.
Good morning all.
Hope to hear from the doc. Over two feet of snow there.
Masquers: Thank you for helping me post early this morning. You are a grand WeatherKat.
10:07 am on January 3rd, 2014
Brrrrrrrrr – my gosh but it’s COLD here. The wind is whipping the powder snow around like an old fashioned cotton candy machine.
Bee – if you ever saw a list of some of the “research” projects that get funded, you would load your easy chair into a truck and mover to Stovernia permanently.
Had dreams last night of being a fire breathing dragon. Awoke to less sneezing and sniffling, but a horribly sore throat. Hmmmm
10:07 am on January 3rd, 2014
So…if I am lost in the woods, I have a N/S compass at my side?
Off to California today!
10:12 am on January 3rd, 2014
C. Hobbit, how much luggage are you taking? Can you squeeze the four of us here into your carry on?
10:14 am on January 3rd, 2014
(Mom dog here) Been concerned for about a month. Pookey hasn’t been eating well and vomits regularly. Vet said if it continues for more than a week, we need x rays ๐ Today I was lazy so the HOH didn’t get breakfast till 10. Whoo hoo. All food eaten, Pookey hasn’t splorted in a week and all are happy. yeah 2014. Oh, and Darah love bringing in ice chunks from the pool, then rolling in leaves, then repeating the process ๐ Life is good. Blizzard area people, be safe!
10:20 am on January 3rd, 2014
HOH, Good news for Pookey! Yippee!
T&G, Hope your 2014 Lucky streak continues! Yippee Again!
Me? I am flummoxed. As if I don’t have enough stress in my life, now I need to take a compass with me when I must go pee or poop????
10:34 am on January 3rd, 2014
Kat, do what we do…go with the flow!
10:36 am on January 3rd, 2014
Kat is cracking me up.
Sharon: Birds are insatiable.
I’ve decided to stay in my easy chair today also Melanie. (I’m glad that you have one too.)
10:39 am on January 3rd, 2014
Stover and Melanie: Mom loves her easy chair but has found it is hard on scar tissue, so she has created a “chaise on the bed…ahhhhh! Nirvana!
11:12 am on January 3rd, 2014
Greetings!
Our little town looks lovely when it is covered in the pure white snow. Grizz has an online student right now, and I am putting away laundry. We’ll brave the cold a bit later.
Royal Mum: Hope you are feeling tip-top soon!
Tenzing: Was your lady dancing Swan Lake with the giraffes or the Boogie Woogie.
CHobbit: Safe travels to you!
Diane: Hey, there. Pay no attention to that evil pug. He made me feel so bad when I first started posting on this here blog, I stayed away for days. He just blows off A LOT of hot air from both directions. He really has a heart of gold.
11:15 am on January 3rd, 2014
I take neither compass or map when I need to go. I just hope if I am not going in my own bathroom, the one that I am going in is clean.
11:18 am on January 3rd, 2014
Just talked to the doc. He says his gloves for negative temperatures are not.
As to my treatment. IV chemo. Will be getting a portal. It will be handled in this area. Every two months getting a scan and going to the clinic.
Need to rest now. Hard phone call.
11:22 am on January 3rd, 2014
Good morning all. We agree with some of your comments. Why does anyone care and how much did they waste on this study?
Barb just read a report from one of her donation groups, Fund for Animals or International Fund for Animal Welfare possibly, outlining a bunch of abusive and costly studies using lab animals. Almost always the animals were subjected to continuing abused and then “humanely euthanized” to continue their studies. Glaring example of human stupidity and waste of monies too.
Barb tried the sock feeders but no one used them. We have finches that come to the regular feeders but they were not interested in the thistle seed for some reason. We have a suet feeder and 3 regular feeders. We put the same feed in all of them. We sort of mix our own with a base of inexpensive feed and then we add in extra sunflower, fruit, nuts, and millet, etc. The birds that eat from the feeders knock some to the ground then the doves and sparrows eat from there too.
Good morning Diane. Glad you are back.
11:22 am on January 3rd, 2014
Melanie, not the friendliest news but still hopeful? ๐ Remember 2014 WILL be better than the last year. If’n y’all find we are missing “s,es”, they aren’t working unless mom pays attention and really checks!
11:27 am on January 3rd, 2014
You are quite welcome, Melanie, it was a pleasure assisting youse with the weather report.
And, speaking of weather, we are very relieved to see Spence and Admin up early this morning.
But where is Rose?
As for the n/s commode position…all is well in this part of the woods. Everyone knows kats can be toilet trained…dawgs? not so much.
HOH, B, B&M: If this keeps up all of you will have to start bringing in bird seed by the truckload. lol.
11:27 am on January 3rd, 2014
Melanie, we are glad they are ready with a plan of action. Also glad the chemo can be administered close by. Going to the clinic every two months isn’t so bad. Have they set a date for getting the portal?
11:30 am on January 3rd, 2014
I am glad that Pookey seems to be tip-top.
Melanie, I am thinking of you. Know that the Plunderers are with you. You will kick that nasty intruder in your body to the curb.
Tenzing: How is Your Lady feeling today?
11:31 am on January 3rd, 2014
Rose: There you are! I should have refreshed.
CHobbit: How long will you be in CA?
Melanie: We are with HOH…no matter what the news sounds like at first…this year will be better!
11:33 am on January 3rd, 2014
My dearest Masquers, I am here in the snow-covered NE.
11:37 am on January 3rd, 2014
Mom read about this silly research somewhere else on the internet and decided to start paying attention to the dogs pooping at the dog park. She has decided nevermind now since Stover says the MF is only stable 20 percent of the time during the daylight hours. We are glad Stover did her (our) research.
11:38 am on January 3rd, 2014
Melanie–It’s something and it’s a start. My husband had some similar treatment (at age 78 and in not-so-hot physical condition from a life of abuse and no exercise) and benefited considerably, so be heartened (and keep warm for now). Everyone travelling, please travel safely.
11:38 am on January 3rd, 2014
Diane C. Sine Rose/Wose addressed the Rio issue we will jump in, risking more anger from a certain someone.
We got the bad treatment when we first blogged 4 years ago, and also left for awhile. For some reason the Pug, who is in a perpetual state of grumpiness, is always hostile to newcomers. Don’t know why, he just doesn’t like them. We have seen the same treatment over and over. Some of the bloggers don’t respond, but Barb gets really bothered by it. She is pretty much non-confrontational and doesn’t like to see feelings hurt.
Don’t get upset or hurt, just ignore him, and keep posting. Eventually he will leave you alone. He really can be quite funny at times, and has been an important part of the blog. He also does a lot of really good work for the Snowhook fund raisers.
11:40 am on January 3rd, 2014
Hello Everyone–forgive this next long missive, but I’m hoping someone may have a suggestion.
An older Lhasa Apso in whom I took an interest as a rescue last year will be staying with me starting tonight. I haven’t yet me Conan, but I have heard that he has had a troubled history and needs a home where he can be the only dog. However, he lived with another dog in the past and has been staying with a human “aunt” since his Mom died suddenly some months ago.
For now I’ll be seeing how he does with Edgar and Pretty, but my sense is that he really does need his own home. No medical problems, and I can probably work out licensing details with his current foster aunt.
Local Lhasa Rescue isn’t taking anyone new, but any and all suggestions appreciated.
11:43 am on January 3rd, 2014
What is a portal?
The IV chemo is the way they fixed me up, Melanie. Twins?
11:47 am on January 3rd, 2014
Wose and Barb and Maggie–thanks for your reassurance, perhaps Rio umnlaut just has more than his share of grumpy days (possibly it’s harder to breather through the reduced-capacity muzzle? Just a guess…)
Tenzing–“Dancing giraffes”?
Also, where does one see footage of the Iditarod? Is it on TV somewhere, or Internet or…?
11:49 am on January 3rd, 2014
CHobbitt–Where in CA?
11:49 am on January 3rd, 2014
Melanie, I am glad the docs have a plan of action now and you won’t have to travel so far. As everyone has already said, this year will be better! We are all with you.
Wose, I was wondering if you got snow…you did!
HOH Very good news about Pookey.
Kat? Are the rents taking Fern to Penn U today?
11:52 am on January 3rd, 2014
Diane: When mom lived in So Cal she found herself in a similar situation in Vista, Ca. Kept calling folks from referrals and eventually a repeat call got her someone who found “adoptive” homes for older aminals with older peoples. With your population base, it will happen. Try each individual city and check the Yellow Pages for rescue/adoption sites. DonT always rely on Gov’t funded groups. Private are sometimes better ๐
11:52 am on January 3rd, 2014
DianeC. Video of the Iditarod can be found on the Iditarod’s website…for a price, but I know they need the money. There are also too many to count videos of different Iditarods, the teams, and mushers, on youtube.
11:52 am on January 3rd, 2014
Barb&Magpie: We here are Appalled at those studies!!! Those researchers could use a vivid reminder from Planet of the Apes that It is All in One’s Perspective.
Good on You, Pookey!
SnowBella: Have those pesky Giraffes settled down? Hope you will not be traveling to the Top of the World for some time.
Royal Mum: A Fire Breathing Dragon? Impressive! Do feel better today…we just saw Sage the Mage at the Top…no doubt resting after helping to hold you down all night.
DianeC: As has been mentioned…our Pug is not only an Important Part of the Blog…it simply Would NOT be the Same without him.
12:00 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Diane,C There has been no coverage of the Iditarod on tv for the last few years.
Sharon gave good advcie about how to find a home for the little doggy.
Sometimes rescue groups will list a dog for you on their website as long as you are fostering the dog, but this may not be possible for you since you have two other dogs.
12:03 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Dancing giraffes are often seen when one is on mind altering pain killers.
Dima, We believe that a portal is put in so that the chemo can be administered into it. It saves having to do an IV each time. We think they are usually put into the chest area. Is that right?
Diane, We have always heard that a new dog is better received outside in the yard, rather than in the confines of the house. Walking them together helps too, if you have another person to go with you.
12:03 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Diane: The Plunderers on this blog are a family and, like those that are close, do not always agree with one another. But, also like a family, we love one another with all our hearts. You have come to a good place.
12:05 pm on January 3rd, 2014
There is a Grey Muzzle rescue group. I don’t know if they are just local.
As Siber said, a subscription to Iditarod Insider will get you great videos and some live coverage of the Iditarod.
http://iditarod.com/insider/
Barb, we are totally opposed to any and all animal testing. Mom is of the belief that no creature is greater or less than another, including humans.
12:08 pm on January 3rd, 2014
I wish I would have had a portal. Instead, they put IV into poor me each month. And I have no fur on my belly and it is dang cold outside!
Diane, one more thing. Be sure to use a crate for the new dog should you decide to foster or adopt. Especially for feeding time and for sleeping time. The new dog will feel much more comfortable in his own den.
12:09 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Diane: Siber is the resident blog expert on all things Iditarod. We took his advice in years past and signed up at their website for the complete package, which includes GPS tracking, live coverage of the Ceremonial Start and lots of videos.
12:20 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Thanks all for the reassurance.
We are now having blizzards of short duration and in the sun. The wind gusts have picked up. Fluffy snow!
12:21 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Now . . What do we hear from the Dancing Giraffes and Smoochers?
Hope all is well with our Alaskan Pixie.
12:34 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Siber-H: yes! we have about 6″ of glorious snow. Wish you could come over and have some fun in the snow with me and Grizz, but I would not suggest you drive the Porsche in these conditions.
We are waiting for the Smoochers update.
12:40 pm on January 3rd, 2014
pssst..Wose, I also have a 4-wheel drive truck, but unlike the Porsche, it is slow.
12:46 pm on January 3rd, 2014
The Smoochers were out in force with Bella. We were so afraid that she would lose all of her wisdom, so we watched very closely. Good news! Not only is she still wise, but I can personally vouch for her belly rubbing abilities to be still intact.
I left her resting well, with her head on Tenzing, and with the Giant by her side, as I had to make it home before our snow storm. The other smoochers stayed behind to be sure she was well cared for.
12:49 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Siber-H: The key to our apartment is under the mat. Do you have GPS?
1:11 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Update from under the Quilt. The Dancing Giraffe show was something. My mama managed to do a salsa, ballet, hip hop and twist dance number all at the same time. Luckily for her pride, she won’t remember it thanks to those fancy pills she took. The dancing was just the beginning of fun to come. My mama made T&G’s maw a NyQuil float because they both like root beer floats so much. Tenzing challenged them both at a game of cards thinking he’d do Dawson proud. Nope. He lost his collar in the first paw.
The power went out last night and has yet to be restored. We are having a Little House on the Prairie morning with the use if oil lamps.
My mama’s cheeks are swollen or so she tells me. She is going to have jello for breakfast—hat tip to Mr. Staff—and then on the advice of her favorite pug, she is going to stay ahead of the pain and take another pain pill.
CHobbit: safe travels! Don’t lose your ID or phone!
Melanie: We are with you all the way through chemo, tough days, and laughter through tears.
1:16 pm on January 3rd, 2014
That’s right Hobbit, we don’t want a repeat of your last trip. Keep that phone and driver’s license close at hand.
Glad Rebecca is feeling better. Did you have two or four removed? When Barb had hers removed back in college, she had the 2 lowers then went back for the two uppers. Easier that way, maybe.
1:23 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Wolfie, wherever you are…mom is scarfing down toffee as the old fart and boarder in the basement are out for hours. Oh, Oh Oh…wonderful! ๐
1:33 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Wose, I don’t have GPS. I don’t need it. I can navigate every time I poop (in the dark) using the earth’s magnetic field.
Wyatt, Thanks for checking in with us and letting us know how Rebecca is doing. Tell her to take it easy.
1:44 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Just watched the news from Cape Cod – there are some places that are getting hit with high tide and storm surge, but OFA’s area seems to be ok. And the tide is now going out. The biggest remaining problem will be the ice that has encased houses and lined electric lines.
Now going back for another NyQuil float and a nap. (Seriously woosing out with this…it’s just a head cold for pete squeaks.)
1:46 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Wolfie: Someone Here cannot enjoy your Delicious World Famous Toffee due to sugar content. However, the receiver of this most Special Gift has been oooing and aaahing non-stop. We tasted it last year and know just what they mean.
BTW: Has there been Any News on that Reality Show the boys were on? We are looking forward to watching it.
Siber-H! Navigating by Magnetic Field…that is So Funny!
1:51 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Now that we are looking closer at the envelope that was returned from Dawson’s, it is not an incorrect address. It is saying more postage is needed!
So Dawson, you will get our card by Easter, maybe.
1:51 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Will be meeting the New Doc here in the area next Tuesday.
It’s amazing what the words “Lahey Clinic doctor on the line” will do!
I am taking a NAP!
Pookie, CONGRATULATIONS
1:57 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Yeeks!
That’s not my bad weather that was sent down to some of youse because I still have cold cold temps and new snow again this morning, even if the sun is shining between the clouds at present. Stay warm and preferably indoors.
Melanie: IV therapy. Okay, we can do that. Be good to yourself and know, like Wyatt says, we will be with you all the way.
SnowBella: I feel bad that you have swollen cheeks. Get under the quilt with Melanie and rest.
Keep eating Pookie and Dima.
DianeC: Good for you for helping out this older dog. I hope you can find a loving home for Conan.
Must be naptime somewhere. Zzzzzzz.
2:12 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Siber-H: You make me laugh. Snow is still here. Grizz and I will need your civil engineering expertise to dig out the car.
2:26 pm on January 3rd, 2014
BSD, We think Wolfie mentioned that the Trisha show about dna would be aired sometime in mid Jan. Not positive on that, but he said he would let us know.
Barb is reading a book that dil got at the local bookstore, Read Between the Lynes. The author, from Iowa, was there doing a book signing so she bought a copy. It is published by iUniverse, which evidently is a publishing company for people who will pay to have their books published. Does anyone know something about this kind of publishing? The book is actually pretty good.
2:36 pm on January 3rd, 2014
B&M, it is called a “vanity” press and is used by those who have been turned down by “real” publisher. Might be content, topic or style. Doesn’t mean content isn’t valuable.
2:50 pm on January 3rd, 2014
So then does the author have to self-sell the books, by getting booksellers to offer their book? I think it was priced at $16.99 at the Woodstock bookstore. Wonder how the marketing works.
Seems like a good afternoon to take a nap (aren’t they all?).
2:52 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Barb, We sometimes buy self published books for the Kindle. They are cheap so if they aren’t very good, it isn’t much loss. A few of them are better than books we have read that are published by a major company. Most are at least better than what one would expect.
3:04 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Siber, This one is Degree of Guilt by Barbara Harken. Can you see how much it is on Kindle, just out of curiosity? We would agree that it is better than some books published by major publishers.
3:05 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Poor OFA

3:05 pm on January 3rd, 2014
*whispering* someone here is a year older today. Not saying who. No I am not.
3:12 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Macy, Is it your mama bear? Happy Day!
Howlers, That is really funny. Wicked, huh?
Before our nap we checked B & N. They offer the Harken book on Nook and in paperback. Her first book, 86th Degree, is also available.
3:12 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Barb, The book is $3.99 for 273 pages. That is not a bad price.
3:13 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Macy, be sure to whisper, “Happy Birthday” from the HOH… ๐
3:15 pm on January 3rd, 2014
It is Macy’s Mom!!!! WOOT!
We saw it on facebookie, but Mom is working from home and she kept forgetting to give us time to post it here.
Happy Birthday Mary Lou!
3:17 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Ah Ha! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MACY’s MOM!!!
3:22 pm on January 3rd, 2014
OH: Love the map ๐ ๐ ๐
3:24 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Macy! Please forgive our tardiness. We knew, we did, but like the Howlers, are a bit slow on the uptake today.
Howlers: We like your s*h*t*t*y weather map. It tells it like it is.
Mom’s sister would be interested in the “self-publishing”. She is a wanna-be-published-author with a lot of rejection slips from major publishing companies.
3:40 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Happy Birthday to Macy’s Mom!!! Husky Birthday Hugs!!
Masquers, Go to the home page of Amazon Kindle Books and scroll down to the bottom. There you can click on how to self publish with Amazon.
3:46 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Happy Birthday Macy’s mom.
Masquers: As Siber-H said, Amazon will publish books and I believe that they sell the book.
3:47 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Masquers: Amazon gets a percentage of course.
3:57 pm on January 3rd, 2014
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MACY’S MUM!
So our Pixie is now a chipmunk? snicker
Great nap. I think I’ll be doing more as days go by.
Will probably lose my hair. I have a call into the family hairdresser to see if how an do The cut of my hair for – is it – Locks for Love.
I hate wigs so have been looking up hats. Hmmm, interesting choices out there. There is a company in England that has some good ones. But at ยฃ48 that’s not going to happen.
If anyone knows of a good site that has cool hats for chemo patients, let me know.
3:58 pm on January 3rd, 2014
HOH and Dima–thanks for the advice and suggestions (Gray Muzzle is on my list of contacts). I’m hoping this will go0 as smoothly as Edgar’s intro to Pretty 18 months ago when he joined us, but you never know. I will dig the crate out.
Siber-H–Thanks for the information–you’d think they’d at least televise parts of it (as with human marathons)…
3:59 pm on January 3rd, 2014
OK, so got Plunderers straightened out, but “Smoochers”?
4:01 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Um–you’re sure it’s Macy’s Mom? OK then, Happy Birthday.
4:06 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Diane: I am a proud member of the Smoochers, a blurring health care squad. We go to the aid of those in need, with a flip of the tail, at a rapid speed.

That darn dog. She just can’t keep her mouth shut! Thanks for the warm wishes, though. Interesting tidbit. I’m the same age as the year I was born. Should be a magical year.
4:14 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Diane: The Smoochers are a certain group of Plunderers—Belle Starr, Luna, Kat, Masquers (the kat dog), Princess Sammie, who offer their special healing and smooching powers to any Plunderer who is undergoing a difficult time, or illness.
Kat, of the Oley Howlers, is the smoochiest of the Smoochers, Belle Starr is the sparkliest. All have excellent medical experience, and are comfort experts.
I suffer from depression, and for a while I was undergoing lightning bolts (ECT). The Smoochers would be there to make sure all medicine and procedures were correctly administered. Belle Starr who carried a very sparkly fire extinguisher, made sure my hair did not catch fire.
Agent 00 Wookie watched over me from the Rainbow bridge! and even sometimes drove the Smoochers to my appointment.
4:15 pm on January 3rd, 2014
B: Meant to comment on this earlier when you mentioned the infamous Fox News in your first post of the day. Recently there was a survey on F/b to test one’s knowledge of past and present news events. Those that watched the Foxy version did not fare well in the test.
Thanks, everyone, for the info on Amazon publishing. It is good to know they also market the book.
4:16 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Macy’s Mom, Wishing you the happiest and sparkliest of birthdays!!
4:19 pm on January 3rd, 2014

OH, That is what I call an honest weather map.

Marylou, You are 14! Rick you little dickens, you! Phil Robertson says you should marry them while they are young (he says 15-16) otherwise they will never pick your ducks for you.
4:49 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Never mind ML. I think Barb didn’t quite understand your comment.
4:50 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Maybe you are 57. Snicker.
4:52 pm on January 3rd, 2014
An excellent job done by Siber-H! We here are now eating dinner.
4:52 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Macy – tell your mom HAPPY BIRTHDAY! She and our Mama must be twins, and both in for a magic year.
Barb- “pick your ducks for you”???
4:58 pm on January 3rd, 2014
T & G. Phil Robertson from the Duck Dynasty was quoted as telling some young men in some sort of speech that you had to get your wife while she was young or if you waited till she was 20 or so she would be worthless. He said you had to taste her cooking first to make sure she could cook, and if you didn’t marry her at an ideal age like 15 or 16, that she would never pick your ducks for you (after the big bad hunter shoots them, his little woman should dress them out and cook them).
4:59 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Broiling a lovely salmon fillet for Siber-H right now. Grizz and Siber are out exploring.
5:11 pm on January 3rd, 2014
As mom always says: Men, can’t live with ’em, illegal to kill ’em in all 50 states!
5:20 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Thought you would all enjoy the video that my girl Zeta sent to me of her pulling a sled in the snow. I think she may have real Snowhook potential.

5:25 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Don’t worry. I am keeping my eye on the Pipsqueak so she doesn’t get lost in the big snowdrifts.

5:30 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Carpola! We Howlers are feeling pretty stupid today. You all know that was me me me!
Zeta is a mighty fine-looking sled dog. Mom always talks about her sled dog, Boris. When they were up in Sullivan County, they got 20 inches of snow. They borrowed a sled and Mom hooked it up to Boris to pull up that long long hill. At the top, Boris stepped on and looked at Mom to push HIM. Hah! That is the closest she ever came to having a “real” sled dog.
5:31 pm on January 3rd, 2014
HOH mom here: youngest grandgirl (11) heard abuelita was going north to Alaska and thought we should be twins so got a second (bigger and matching) hat. With Owl hat and this, will she be stylin’ or what?

5:35 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Those are great pictures, although Sharon, yours are always side ways or upside down.
Howlers, Did Fern make it to the checkup today?
5:49 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Thanks for the video, TeddyRR. We laughed and it reminds us of a scene in the movie Snowdogs. The woods must have stopped Zeta. I’m betting she didn’t stop of her own free will.
Meashka, I knew that was you in the photo. You are looking lovely as always.
5:57 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Zeta may soon be on her way to join Snowhook.
Macy, Is you mom being wined and dined tonight?
Barb is doing a Caesar salad, bacon wrapped fillet and baked potato. She had her Lean Cuisine for lunch. Gave Josh the rest of the Christmas cookies from the freezer, so she is being good. Getting rid of some temptations around her. Most of the toffee is gone too, which is good thing for the diet.
5:58 pm on January 3rd, 2014
B&M, moms entire life has been sideways or up side down…(think it is ipawr to pc).
Zeta looks like a charmer.
5:59 pm on January 3rd, 2014
HOH’s photo was upside down on our big computer, but it looks rightside up on our iPaw.
Do you guys see how some areas have next to no snow, while others are so deep we have trouble nose-plowing thru?
Mom says with these cold temps, this snow is not going anywhere, but she’s wrong. We have seen that snow pick up and move to another part of the farm.
6:07 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Maggie, please ask Barb to check her SDD.
It is Friday night pizza time!
6:12 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Poop!…A poop-post from Admin?…snort!… Unbelievable.…What is this blog coming to?…heh!heh!… I always poop with my face in the wind. Beau likes to poop on shrubs – as high as he can get…wheeze!…Nasty business.
6:22 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Sneeze!….I like ta poop on shrubs…sniff!….As high as i can get…grunt!
7:00 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Oleys, check your SDD.
Barb did observe my tail wagging techniques after reading about that study, but she is not interested in observing my poop and pee habits. As long as it is outside she says I can do what I want.
7:13 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Well, Rick got me pretty durn young (19) but I ain’t never gonna pick no dam duck. (I will, however, be happy to pick a cheeseburger from a menu)
He made a delicious pot roast with carrots and taters, and my very favorite treat, crescent rolls, and he didn’t even count how many I ate. Then we had cake, and Belle helped herself to some of the icing. Rick can eat that corner!
7:21 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Good choices, M.L. ( Duck, pot roast and crescent rolls). Hope the rest of your birthday is magical.
7:31 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Teddy RR, Zeta is a natural! Look at her go.
Sharon. The devil made you do it?
Happy Birthday Macy’s Mom!

That is the strangest rooster crowing we have ever heard. Is it for real?
7:38 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Macy’s Maw: Happy birthday!
Mr. Macy’s Dad: We would like to offer our services to be your bride’s escort on her trip north to Alaska. We will show her about the kennel, where we keep the fish and we’ll let her give us tummies. We promise to be gentledogs, but have no intention of behaving ourselves—those are two different things.
Rio: Poop! Orion is a master pooper. He usually scores a 10 for creative placement and degree of difficulty.
7:41 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Ruff Rider: Zeta is a natural.
Number of times we’ve tried to blame the devil when getting caught red-pawed: too many to count.
Number of times it has worked: 0
7:48 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Happy Birthday Macy!
What fun! Zeta and her passenger are having the time of their lives.
8:06 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Teddy: Your girl is beautiful, and boy, she can pull that sled!
8:10 pm on January 3rd, 2014

Hey Riรถ! Looky what’s on next week.

8:29 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Wose: Love the dancing giraffes!
Zeta and Taddy RR, Wow, y’all go!
Pancho: sounds to us that mom can bring the owl and devil hats?
8:35 pm on January 3rd, 2014
TeddyRR: Zeta is a Natural Athlete. Having Fun in the Snow. It doesn’t get any better than this.
Wose: Those Dancing Giraffes! LOL
Look…the Hound’s Mom is standing on her head…Again.
Beau: That is quite admirable. No one will Step in It if it’s on a bush.
8:44 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Of course, Elmore Leonard, the chief consultant on Justified and on whose story, Fire in the Hole, the series was based, has gone on to other ventures in other realms. We enjoyed his books. He will be missed.
Signing off in a few to watch Life of Pi, which is next up in our DVD queue.
9:02 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Barb and Maggie, Rooster real? Ahhh sure, maybe.
9:36 pm on January 3rd, 2014
HOH saying nighty night ๐
9:58 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Rio’s handsome pug shot is up top!
Riddle us this—what kind of fool gets their wisdom teeth out and the next day tries to eat solid food?
We are still without power. Grump.
10:10 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Taking a movie break to get a snack.
P&L: No power is not good. Keep those fires burning. As to your Lady trying to eat solid food…that must mean she’s feeling better…right?
The good news here…we now have hot water…no more heating on the stove.
10:14 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Masquers: All it means is we get out appetite from our Lady’s side of the family. Hot water is good, good, good for you.
Wose: The giant had to call on the Pixie’s muscles twice today. Once when he got the truck stuck and then again when he needed help moving the trailer. We just watched.
Melanie: We know you said you don’t like wigs, but if you change your mind, we know a certain someone who has enough hair for one wig. She has just been waiting to send it to locks of love. She says it is yours for the taking.
10:17 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Power!…It is only 28 degrees in Willow, Alaska…sniff!…I hope ta hell Rebecca has that fire burning…gurgle! …You can cook all kinds of stuff over an open fire. Like hot-dawgs, and marshie-mellows and all that other stuff you can stick on a stick…sniff!
10:25 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Evil pug! Marshiemellows don’t sound like solid food in the slightest. That has to be good for her. Our lady has the fire stoked and the oil lamp lit.
10:29 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Mellows!…I do think marshie mellows would clog up those holes in your mouth…sniff!…Maybe then you could eat a few moose-meat hot-dawgs…heh!…Make sure no moose parts get stuck in those gapping holes though or Dry Sockets will sound like a vacation…gurgle!
10:30 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Melanie, We personally would go for scarves. There are a lot of attractive ways to wear them. They are popular, so you can buy them reasonably. They are more comfortable than wigs, and not as hot as hats.
10:31 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Quote from the National Weather forecast for Clifford North Dakota.
“Snow with widespread blowing snow before midnight, then widespread blowing snow and a chance of snow between midnight and 3am, then widespread blowing snow after 3am.”
Hmmmm. I think they are predicting snow and wind.
Tonight’s low is -4. Tomorrow’s high is-4. They are stuck!
10:34 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Then tomorrow…”Areas of blowing snow before 4pm. Mostly sunny, with a temperature falling to around -11 by 5pm. Wind chill values as low as -36. Windy, with a northwest wind 20 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph.”
It gets cold here but it is never frigid. Frigid is reserved for those places that don’t get cold very often. Our weather people just say cold. Sometimes they say extreme cold. But they never say frigid.
10:35 pm on January 3rd, 2014
P&L, We hope Pixie wasn’t out pushing trucks and trailers around!
Good night all. Sweet dreams.
10:36 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Staff: If we are reading between the lines, we think the snow might be widespread. It is hard to say for certain. That forecast is so cryptic. ๐
10:44 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Rio – we are at -15 degrees here. Are you worried about us too.
Mama would love a toasted marshie mellow, but she isn’t about to go out and light up the grill to make one. So, Bella, please have an extra one for her.
10:45 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Staff, That forecast is a classic.
10:48 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Your kind of forecast eh Siber-H?
11:05 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Staff, It would be fun for Sibers, but two-leggeds…not so much
If it is going to be cold here, they do use the word frigid or something along the lines of, “Your gonna die”.
If you have a gas kitchen stove, you can toast marshmellow over the gas flame. Mom did it when she was a teenager.
Night All
11:16 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Goodnight Mr.Husky. Goodnight Rio and Sharon HOH. goodnight Barb and Maggie. Goodnight P&L. Goodnight Masquers. yawn.
G’day Liz in OZ….zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
11:43 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Staff – so what are we…chopped slim jims?
11:57 pm on January 3rd, 2014
Did someone say Slim Jims?
12:42 am on January 4th, 2014
