Bull
We were going to get back to the Astrid case today – Spence said something about a flow chart that’s going to save our bacon, although no bacon has appeared yet and I’ve been watching for it non-stop – but Bernie’s too upset about some bull fight in Spain. I’m not sure what bullfighting is but Bernie hates it.
“I feel bad this bull jumped into the stands and hurt people,” he says, “but why expect that tormenting animals is going to lead to anything good? And that’s what bullfighting is, pure and simple. All that Hemingway stuff is bunk.”
Hey! I remember Waldo Hemingway, a perp we collared not too long ago. Not actually by the collar – more by the pant leg, in fact. Waldo was one of those humans who’s afraid of my kind. He went quietly, except for a few screams. He’d been eating a chicken salad sandwich at the time. I finished it. Why not? But what he had to do with bullfighting is a mystery.

We agree with Spence. Bull fighting is tormenting animals. Would never care to watch it. Now running with the bulls could be fun if one were young and agile.
Rio, your services are needed. You will have to spread yourself thin (right!) to get the job done. There are reported bed bug outbreaks in a NYC movie theatre, in several department stores, and in a library (yikes!) in Colorado. That is you home base, no?
4:49 am on August 19th, 2010
I agree with Bernie about bull fighting. However, I wish you'd get him back on track Chet.
5:25 am on August 19th, 2010
Barb & Magpie! I see you read the same Rosie Gray Running Scared blog that I did. I wrote to YSAS to tell him. No word yet.
(aside to Maggie) you don't have to apologize about Shakespeare writers to YSAS. All he wants is to be in every single play!
Bacon!! Nothing worse than promised bacon and then it doesn't show up!
B.Stover, I agree with youse guys about the bullfighting. I read recently that the Catalonia region of Spain has banned it. Of course, they don't consider themselves as part of Spain . . .
The FLOW CHART has MADE IT! Awesome.
5:31 am on August 19th, 2010
Heh!… My favorite line from above, “He went quietly, except for a few screams.”…snort!
Flow Chart!… I am going to try and study Kirby’s flow chart today and see what it says to me about this mysterious case….wheeze!….I’m starting to wander if there is a well thought out plot or if this is an example of Plundering On Forever!….grunt!
5:34 am on August 19th, 2010
Hats off to the Flow Chart!
Melanie, thank for the aside. We think It Was Much Ado About Nothing. Snicker!
Rio i strangely silent. Maybe he is headed off to that Colorado library this a.m.
5:36 am on August 19th, 2010
By the time I posted Rio had appeared.
5:38 am on August 19th, 2010
Clue!…. After studying the flow chart intensely… snort!… There are two things that pop-out… cough!… Four arrows are pointing to Tulip and Ray. This is one more arrow than any of the other characters has pointing to them….grunt!… Do I think it is a clue? Possibly!…sniff!sniff!
5:51 am on August 19th, 2010
Melanie, Actually I got my bb information from the Today Show, but I went back and read Rosie's story from yesterday. Had a lot of the same info, but Today added the CO library, for Rio's benefit.
5:52 am on August 19th, 2010
Awesome work Riö! Either a clue or they have been hit by Cupid's arrow.
Remember those puppies?
Well, Miss Purple and White is happy.
This is Have Dog Will Travel.

Wow!… I wonder if Spencer’s head looked like that when he was a baby!….snort!
6:11 am on August 19th, 2010
Oh Rio. I'm trying to think of the word to describe your sense of humor……while I'm laughing of course.
6:17 am on August 19th, 2010
I looked at the flow chart again…which is excellent. We need to add one fact to it: Tulip identified the scent in the motel room as Ratko's.
6:20 am on August 19th, 2010
Good morning everyone. That people baby and Newf baby make the cutest picture. It also gives perspective to the size of the Newf baby.
Mom is way better today. She calls the dentist who has caused all these problems Dr. Death. I overheard her talking about justifiable homicide again. Hmmm.
6:21 am on August 19th, 2010
Another addition to the flow chart: I still think it's important that Albie divorced Astrid because he thought she liked the "other dude." We need to get that fact and the mystery dude in there. Perhaps there should also be mention of the fact that Foster laughed off Bernie's question about him (Foster) being that dude.
6:22 am on August 19th, 2010
Melanie – What is Miss Purple and White's name?
6:23 am on August 19th, 2010
Mollypop: I think it was my dentist who gave me the sinus infection. I'm glad your mom is feeling better.
6:25 am on August 19th, 2010
What flow chart??!!! Is is a "dogs only" thing.
BTW, I don't believe in "saving bacon." The only thing to do with bacon is to eat it immediately.
6:25 am on August 19th, 2010
Of course, I mean "Is it a "dogs only" thing. I am agitated.
6:26 am on August 19th, 2010
Going to get bacon to calm down.
6:30 am on August 19th, 2010
MollyPop! It's MOLLY!!
B. Stover, working brain dead here, but it Tulip says it's Ratko's scent, doesn't that mean she might NOT know Foster. I went back on Foster tags and didn't see any mention of Tulip. Of course, as Riö knows I only read every other word. There are no Tulip tags (or leaves), so I am in a quandary.
6:36 am on August 19th, 2010
Melanie: I wrote on an earlier post that we do not know if Tulip and Foster know one another. Perhaps the flow chart needs to indicate that that is an assumption.
FK: The flow chart was prepared by Kirby and you can find it under the comments on the post titled "A Little Snack."
6:41 am on August 19th, 2010
Thank you, B. Stover. Will investigate immediately.
(How do you like my terse dialogue? I'm emulating Dashiell Hammett. However, the Librarian is not forthcoming with the requisite kitty fedora. Harumph.)
6:47 am on August 19th, 2010
Molly, I am very glad your mom is feeling better today.
FK, Kirby made a flow chart about the characters in the story a couple of days ago on the blog.
There is talk of banning bullfighting altogether in Spain. They killed that bull that jumped into the stands. I don't care if people want to run with the bulls…the people are out there by choice, but if they get hurt or killed, I won't feel too sorry for them. The bulls in bullfighting don't have a choice.
6:55 am on August 19th, 2010
My mom loves flow charts and making flow charts. Me? I love bacon.
6:57 am on August 19th, 2010
Stover, if you come up with a word to describe Rio's sense of humor, let us know, because he is hilarious. I cracked up at his one-liner beneath the baby and the puppy.
Melanie, we will never forget the puppies. Thank you for sharing them with us. sniff

Rio and anyone else that can answer this question? Are you guys still getting emails from Barnes and Noble? I haven't received any in over two weeks. I know they are having financial problems, but I want my coupons if they are still sending them.
7:25 am on August 19th, 2010
Whoa!…Barnes and Nobles are having financial difficulties? …. grunt!… I better let someone know about this so she can use up her gift certificate in a jippy! … snort!… I just know she is going to order a Quilting book or something stupid like that….grump!… We did get an email from them last Friday…sniff!
7:28 am on August 19th, 2010
Mom gets so upset when she hears of any animal being hurt for human pleasure. Bullfighting, duck hunting, cockfighting, dogfighting, greyhound dog racing…it all makes her steam.
7:29 am on August 19th, 2010
SH: I received an email from Barnes & Noble yesterday and today.
7:37 am on August 19th, 2010
Here is an article from yesterday's Los Angeles Times regarding Barnes and Noble. As far as I can understand it, two of the major share holders are each trying to get more stock.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/jacketcopy/2010/0…
7:38 am on August 19th, 2010
Thanks for your answers. I'll have to talk to them and see what is going on. Rio, Barnes and Nobel is probably going to be sold and who knows what changes the new owners will make. I like Amazon better anyway and they are cheaper, especially if you go for the free shipping. The mule train gets it here eventually.
7:51 am on August 19th, 2010
MagPie!… Here is a question for your Barb….snort!….What is a “Poison Pill” in regards to Stocks and Bonds??… sneeze!
8:03 am on August 19th, 2010
Melanie – The Newf puppy is named Molly. I really like that name for some reason.
MagPie! Your Barb seems to know about everything! Tin futures, flood insurance, amazing. I hope she hasn't caught on to your 'look' when you want something. I've been practising in front of the mirror ever since you posted that pic a long time ago.
8:05 am on August 19th, 2010
I just posted my first test since I tethered my Internet connection to Mom's cell phone. Wow, did that ever speed it up!
8:10 am on August 19th, 2010
Stover!… Or anyone else for that matter….snort!… Are you a big Hemmingway fan? What did Bernie mean when he said, “All that Hemingway stuff is bunk” in regards to bull fighting….grunt!
8:11 am on August 19th, 2010
sniff!…There are too many "mmmm"'s in Hemmmmingway up thare!…grunt!
8:37 am on August 19th, 2010
Rio: I am not a Hemingway fan. He called himself an aficionado of bullfighting. There is a scene of bullfighting in his most famous novel, The Sun Also Rises which I've taught. The female, Brett, has an affair with a bullfighter. (The main character is Jake Barnes who tells the story…set just after World War I; it's about the "Lost Generation.") I've also taught his extremely interesting short story, "Hills Like White Elephants." If I were to recommend anything of his, however, it would be his memoir, A Moveable Feast published posthumously in 1964. It's about Paris in the 1920s.
8:45 am on August 19th, 2010
Here's an up-to-the minute article by the Wall Street Journal regarding Barnes and Noble. Apparently Burkle did not win his battle to overturn the "poison pill" anti-takeover measure. Perhaps Barb or Wookie's dad could explain that.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704…
8:54 am on August 19th, 2010
Here's the Wikipedia article explaining "poison pill."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poison_pill
9:06 am on August 19th, 2010
Barb was an insurance agent that did a little financial planning work, usually with the help of one of her company's CFPs. She was not a stock broker, so not real sure on this one. (Thank you for the compliment, Molly)
Basically a poison pill clause is to prevent hostile takeover, so they are trying to keep the one shareholder from getting a controlling # of shares. I think they can do that by letting existing shareholders buy shares at a lower than market price, thus blocking the takeover. That is all she knows.
9:18 am on August 19th, 2010
Aww…I can't read the Wall Street Journal article unless I subscribe. So, does this mean, in plain English, that Barnes and Noble can be sold?
This is as bad, but not worse than, tin futures.
9:19 am on August 19th, 2010
We hate bullfighting too. It's no better than illegal dog fighting. Can't believe they killed the bull for trying to get the hell out of there. How can that possibly be considered a sport? Just because it's part of their heritage? It reminds us of the lawsuit in the northwest between the govt and an Indian tribe that wanted to hunt whales with spears …. and the Indians won!
9:23 am on August 19th, 2010
B&N!…. It doesn’t sound like the company is going under or anything!…snort!…That’s a relief….grunt!
9:30 am on August 19th, 2010
Gus & Boo, Your comment about bullfighting being a sport brought up Barb's argument against calling hunting or dog/cock/bull fighting a sport. In a true "sport" you have:
two equal teams, of equal skill level
both have same equipment
both have same goals
both sides are there voluntarily
So, what doesn't compute here?
9:58 am on August 19th, 2010
SH: I don't subscribe to the Wall Street Journal but I could still read it. I googled B&N and that was one of the selections. Perhaps it would work if you do it that way.
10:08 am on August 19th, 2010
Stover, it didn't work, but thank you.
10:18 am on August 19th, 2010
Mollypop, Barb may have some knowledge about some of that boring stuff, but believe me, when I give her "the look" she is putty in my paws!
10:24 am on August 19th, 2010
How's this: Rio has a roguish sense of humor.
10:31 am on August 19th, 2010
Well I am as ready for the TOGA-teers as I will get. I had a lovely nap. I was surprised to find out I will have 10 for dinner tonight. I went out and bought some paper plates after I found out.
Read all the posts to here and that Fatty Kitty is getting quite chatty! I am glad Rio is over his upset about the quilt.
Heh heh heh.
I did send it to him. He just has to access the correct email account.
We are hoping Grandma is feeling OK now. I bet her fall scared her. Good wishes to her for getting better fast.
I am going to see if I need to do anything more or if I can start sewing the quilt top together. Should be a good afternoon, waiting for company project.
Staff
PS Alice Johnson is sleeping in my chair right next to the computer. Such a little sleepyhead.
10:32 am on August 19th, 2010
Oh,our word for Rio's sense of humor…"Warped".
Alice Johnson told me to write that.
10:40 am on August 19th, 2010
Stover and Staff are both correct. hee hee
11:17 am on August 19th, 2010
Three!…Kat jokes!
For Staff! … What is the difference between a cat and a comma?
One has the paws before the claws and the other has the clause before the pause.
For Alice! … Where does a cat go when it loses its tail?
The retail store.
For AbbieTheKat!… What do you call a cat that has swallowed a duck?
A duck filled fatty puss.
"One cat just leads to another." – Ernest Hemingway
11:33 am on August 19th, 2010
Rio, Like your warped and roguish kat jokes.
Can't wait to see the quilt top in final form.
11:35 am on August 19th, 2010
Where did Hemingway write that Rio?
11:37 am on August 19th, 2010
RIO! Hawpe is being let go from the Rockies.
11:37 am on August 19th, 2010
I wondered about that myself, Stover.
11:41 am on August 19th, 2010
SOB!…. I know, I just found out about Hawpe earlier….sob!sob!sob!… My friend is really going to be upset tonight…. gasp!

What was the text that the Hemingway quote came from Rio…..and unlike SH I'm not laughing
12:12 pm on August 19th, 2010
Hemingway!… He loved kats!…snort!… Especially the polydactyls, or Mitten Kats….grunt!
12:15 pm on August 19th, 2010
Stover!… I don’t know. I’m not a fan of Heminway at the moment especially now knowing he liked bull fighting… grunt!… I just saw it on a page with quotes about Kats….sniff!
12:29 pm on August 19th, 2010
Hemingway must have been a kat person. When we googled that cat quote, we found another of his. "A cat has absolute emotional honesty: human beings, for one reason of another, may hide their feelings, but a cat does not."
12:47 pm on August 19th, 2010
Hey Rufus and Lucy, glad to have you.
12:55 pm on August 19th, 2010
Rio. On behalf of my mom, thank you for all the wonderful things you said last night. It really made her day! I think she and Staff make a great team and it will be a truly memorable quilt. Regaring the Rockies letting Hawpe go, they are at least doing it in a way that will give him a better chance to sign with another team, which is at least reasonably classy on their part. Also, I had sent you a message using the secret decoder device a few days back and just wanted to make sure you got it.
My dad says that Barb's explanation of a poison pill is very good. The only thing that he would add is that under Delaware law, the poison pill is lawful only if it makes it more difficult, but not necesssarily impossible, for a hostile takeover to occur. Vice Chancellor Leo Strine of the Delware Court of Chancery upheld the validity of the Barnes & Noble poison pill in an 87 page opinion, that even manages to refer to Jimmy Buffett (my dad's absolute favorite), so my dad said it was a really good opinion. My dad does have some strange reading habits though. Wookie
1:07 pm on August 19th, 2010
Wookie, Thank your dad for adding to our knowledge about the p.p.
Barb's brother (the Duke doc with the Chessie), is also a Parrot Head (Buffett fan, Bee). He and his wife just went to a Sheryl Crow concert last weekend, and Barb's sister-in-law went to college at Missouri U. with her. Sheryl sang at one of their friend's wedding, which has nothing to do with anything, but is sort of interesting maybe.
.
1:18 pm on August 19th, 2010
Hemingway wrote a short story which I've never read titled "Cat in the Rain." And yes, he loved cats.
Thank you Wookie for the info on PP.
Sorry guys….but who is Jimmy Buffett? (Parrot Head??)
1:43 pm on August 19th, 2010
B., you will be greeting your new students with your head filled with lots of new stuff.
Check out Jimmy Buffet's song Margaritaville. You'll wow those guys.

Bernie says he's read The Sun Also Rises – and liked it – but he was thinking more of Death In The Afternoon. Meanwhile Spence just realized he forgot to get a haircut before BarkWorld, which is sure to cause confusion tomorrow.
2:10 pm on August 19th, 2010
Oh no….confusion tomorrow?? Spence, your hair is fine the way it is I'm sure.
I could quote several things from Death in the Afternoon, plus an article that Hemingway wrote for the Toronto Star Weekly about bullfighting. (He calls bullfighting a "tragedy"…but….)However, I have not been able to find the quotations of Rio or Barb in any of the books I have on Hemingway. None of the internet sites listing the quotations cite even the secondary source let alone the primary source. That is intolerable. Those internet sites are on my SOL list.
In Islands in the Stream (his eighth novel which I do not remember ever reading) Hemingway's main character has eleven cats. At the beginning of one section there is a twenty-five page essay on cats.
2:21 pm on August 19th, 2010
Okay, for anyone who is interested, this may be what Bernie was referring to from Death in the Afternoon (published in 1932, a non-fiction work about bullfighting): "The bullfight is not a sport in the Anglo-Saxon sense of the word, that is, it is not an equal contest or an attempt at an equal contest between a bull and a man. Rather it is a tragedy….From the modern moral point of view…the bullfight is indefensible; there is certainly much cruelty, there is always danger, either sought or unlooked for, and there is always death, and I should not try to defend it now, only to tell honestly the things I have found true about it. [When he was learning how to write he realized that one topic, "the simplist thing" to write about was violent death.] The only place where you could see life and death, i.e., violent death now that the wars were over, was in the bull ring and I wanted very much to go to Spain where I could study it." He ended up liking it.
2:30 pm on August 19th, 2010
Wasn't Hemingway also a big game hunter?
2:39 pm on August 19th, 2010
Wow, take a nap and see what happens in here!!
I think the most astonishing of all is B.Stover use of SOL!! It had me LOL!
Jimmy Buffett story . .
A long time back when I was in college, I became friends with the artist in residency. Pretty cool guy. Did a lot of sculpture work. Well known in the Virginia area. So there was this party at his place, acknowledging him for something, with all the "connections from the Virginia Art World".
Well . . . it was fun, the artists were cool, and the "hanger ons" of the art world, those with connections, were a bit stuffy.
So I'm in line for some food and this guy started talking to me about this new singer he's heard called "James Buffet". I thought and thought and then started laughing and said you mean Jimmy Buffett?
He went off in a huff and I learned a lot about people.
2:46 pm on August 19th, 2010
SH: Yes he went on safari in Africa several times. The one short story based on a safari that I'm familiar with is "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber."
3:13 pm on August 19th, 2010
At least he was nice to cats, domestic cats. I'm guessing he killed some big cats. I hope not.
3:18 pm on August 19th, 2010
Rolling!…. My friend and I have both been rolling on the floor with laughter starting with the post from SiberH where he thought I was lying about the Hemingway quote!… heh!…From there on it just became a big boulder of laughter with Chet chiming in about Spencer’s forgotten haircut!…OMG!… I thought she was going to wet her pants right here and now! … snort!snort!… This blog is like Comedy Tonight! …heh! Oooh my…We have not laughed this much in a very long while….sigh.
3:28 pm on August 19th, 2010
lol I didn't say lying, Rio, I said making it up. I just hard a hard time believing that Hemingway liked cats with all the macho issues that he had and the way he seemed to enjoy seeing animals die for no reason.
3:39 pm on August 19th, 2010
Wookie!… Received loud and clear!… snort!… The good news has been absorbed and moved onto major headquarters for assessment!…grunt!…Thanks for the good work you do Wookie!…heh!
Rockies!…They always handle things with a lot of class!… sniff!… This team may not be in the top 3 right now, but in my heart they are the best team in the whole damn league…snorkel!
3:40 pm on August 19th, 2010
In a biography I have of Hemingway it lists the things killed on safari…but you don't want to hear it SH.
I'm wondering what missed hair cuts and confusion is going to mean for the blog tomorrow.
3:44 pm on August 19th, 2010
Haircut!… I’m wondering if Spencer means his hair will be exactly as long as Admin’s hair during BarkWorld(heh)… snort!…The confusion will come from fans who will think they are one and the same person…cough!…Even though one is tall, strong and good looking and the other is short with a pointy head… sneeze!…I don’t really think he has to worry about confusion at all …snuff!
3:45 pm on August 19th, 2010
Stover!… I think we are on the same brain waves sometimes!…snort!… How does that make you feel??? …heh!
3:45 pm on August 19th, 2010
Actually, Hemingway's home/museum in Key West, Fla., is home to about 60 kats, including many six-toed kats who are descended from a six-toed kat given to Hemingway by a ship's captain. Awhile back there was some kind of court case about the kats — I can't remember the details, but I think someone wanted to get rid of them, but the museum prevailed. Here's the link to their kat page:

Kirby, We think some of those are the Mitten Kittens Rio talked about. They have extra toes.
Bee, We are surprised you haven't heard of Jimmy Buffet, but not surprised about Parrot Heads. We googled Rio's cat quote and that brought up websites with other E.H. quotes and that is where we found ours.
Chet, We think Spence will be ok without the haircut. We have seen some pix of SQ/PA with long hair and he still looks dashing (or charming, as Rio likes to say). Good luck!
4:11 pm on August 19th, 2010
Barb!…Back off! This guy is married with children! …snort!…heh!
4:18 pm on August 19th, 2010
Hey!… We have some time to watch part of Rubicon 3 before the game starts!….Wooooo!
4:25 pm on August 19th, 2010
OK, I've updated the flowchart to add Bee's suggestions. Was it Dawson who said it was "clear as mud"? Anyplace there are question marks, it means that we only have someone's word for it. Places without question marks are facts that Chet and/or Bernie have dug up. (Although, strictly speaking, we have only Col. Bob's word that he and Astrid had a one night stand that produced Ray. But Bernie and Chet trust him, so I'm taking his word for it!)

Kirby!…Ole Pal! Do what you did with the last one that finally showed up as a photo!…snort!…That’s the only one we could see here… sniff!… In fact I will tell you a secret. She taped your flow chart to her desk at the busy place in a spot where she can see it all day long and ponder about the mystery…heh!… I told her to Stay Out of It!….grunt!…The blog is my territory dammit!…cough!
4:37 pm on August 19th, 2010
Rio, Barb didn't mean it that way!!! Besides SQ/PA being married with 4 kids, we believe he is much younger. Barb was just trying to put him at ease for forgetting the haircut. She was NOT being flirty in the least. Believe me, she has her hands full around here with the chickens, goats, and most of all ME.
4:38 pm on August 19th, 2010
I'm hoping that confusion tomorrow does not mean there will be no blog post.
On Demand has Rubicon 1, 3 and 4 but not 2. Strange. I have a question about where Wellington is when he takes the picture. (He's the friend of Miranda Richardson's character's husband who killed himself in the first episode.) I think he's in the townhouse which means he's lying to her about not knowing about the townhouse.
5:43 pm on August 19th, 2010
I’m glad you found this, Maggie, because I thought there was a 50% chance Rio was making it up.
Hey and Welcome to Rufus and Lucy!

Margaritaville!… My friend says when she lived on the Western Slope in Glenwood Springs near Aspen….snort!… She was invited to a semi private concert out in a meadow (seriously!)…wheeze!… Jimmy Buffet and John Denver were the major artists that day and boy oh boy was she thrilled! … grunt!…She had been a true blue John Denver fan forever and seeing him from just a few feet away singing Rocky Mountain High was one of the most amazing times in her life!… sniff!… Jimmy Buffet of course was a hoot and sang Margaritaville and all his other hits at the time… snort!…She has a precious photo of John Denver looking right at her… oops!… Now she is on the cough crying over Johns death and Brad Hawpe being ousted from the Rockies….wheeze!

Oh! Kirby!…snag!

Rio: I'm trying, really I am. I just deleted it and am starting all over again. So this is the next attempt. This time all my paws are crossed!
5:06 pm on August 19th, 2010
It worked — I think it was the all paws crossed thing!
5:10 pm on August 19th, 2010
Good luck Kirby, we want to see the new and improved version of the Flow Chart.
Rio, Barb LOVED John Denver. He was even a good actor. What a loss!
5:18 pm on August 19th, 2010
Rio: Mom says her first slow dance was to "Sunshine on My Shoulder." It still brings back memories whenever she hears it!
5:23 pm on August 19th, 2010
Nope! Kirby!…please figure out the flowchart!…sneeze! …Sunshine On My Shoulders always makes me High!…sniff!..sob!
Stover!… I also am concerned about the upcoming blog posts…snort!…What if they, Chet, Bernie, Spence and Admin decide to stay the weekend or something crazy like that!…snort!…What about the blog?? What About US!?? … grumble!… I guess we are at the mercy of someone making plans ahead for the blog posts… wheeze!…But we all know his memory is lacking sorely, so the idea of that is just hopeful thinking…cough!… Maybe they were really smart and they took their lap-top with them to Georgia! …sniff! …Here’s to hoping for some smarts in that gang of four!…grunt!
5:28 pm on August 19th, 2010
Rio: You can't see the flowchart? It showed up on my post this last time! Please, please tell me you just forgot to refresh?!
5:31 pm on August 19th, 2010
It was the 10:05 post.
5:31 pm on August 19th, 2010
Kirby!… Yes! Yes!… I had to ‘right click’ on it and then click ‘Show Picture’…grunt!… Just like Staffs last photo …heh!… But YES! I can see it!….Thank you very much my good flop-eared friend!!…snort!
5:33 pm on August 19th, 2010
Thanks Kirby. Good job.
5:35 pm on August 19th, 2010
Bee: Did I find all the comments you wanted to add? If not let me know and I'll update it again — but not until tomorrow. I don't think I can handle any more attempts tonight!
5:45 pm on August 19th, 2010
Stover!… I thought it was the 21st… snort!… Just because there was no way we could be in Georgia on the 21st and we would really want to be in Georgia at some point in our lives…heh!
5:47 pm on August 19th, 2010
We didn't do any clicking, it just showed up all of a sudden. Thanks, Kirby.
5:49 pm on August 19th, 2010
Rio: The 21st is Saturday, right?
Kirby: I'll think about other things to add to the chart and post them tomorrow.
5:51 pm on August 19th, 2010
Stover!… You are completely correct!… The 21st is Saturday!… sniff!…This day is confounding me because she says it was her mom and dad's wedding anniversary…sniff!… Tomorrow we are going to bury her dad's ashes – her mom really wanted to do it on Aug. 21st (anniversary) but culdn't because of bullshit crapola from the mortuary…wheeze!…Anyway I keep getting confused about when the 21st is…heh!… For me it is tomorrow!
5:58 pm on August 19th, 2010
Hey!….This is really good news!…snort!…The 21st is not till Saturday! So there is a very good chance we will get another installment to the Astrid missing case mystery!… gruff!…Pleaseeeeeee!
6:01 pm on August 19th, 2010
Rio: I'm sorry it couldn't be on the 21st. All of you will be glad when that's over. I've gone through it myself.
6:02 pm on August 19th, 2010
Except for the hair cut. We will see tomorrow….
6:03 pm on August 19th, 2010
Melanie: I forgot to mention (since I had to wait so long because the computer was off until Mom got home not only from work, but from the faculty dinner at Dad's school) that I love that photo of the little Miss Molly. I think it's great that those two puppies — I mean the puppy and the baby — will be able to grow up together. I'm sure they'll be the best of friends!
6:06 pm on August 19th, 2010
Oh, and Rio, you've got to say, "Pretty please with bacon on top" since that seems to be the only thing that gets a response from Chet. Although, come to think of it, it didn't get us another Astrid case installment, only a shouldhavebeen!
6:12 pm on August 19th, 2010
Kirby!…Is it my wild imagination (much better description than ‘warped’), or will you be meeting up with The Charming Mr. Abrahams this coming Saturday???…snort!…What is your plan? ..sneeze..Do you have questions in mind or what exactly??…wheeze!
6:22 pm on August 19th, 2010
Librarian here: Fatty Kitty is out. He said he would be hanging with Funny Face, looking down on all their loved ones. Except he said it in a pompous way that I can't duplicate.
I love the flow chart. I think when SQ starts blogging the 4th book we should start with a flow chart right away!
Can't help thinking how Molly & her baby will look in a year. The baby won't be much bigger, but Molly will 🙂
6:27 pm on August 19th, 2010
Fatty!… The head!! The head will be bigger! …snort!
6:29 pm on August 19th, 2010
Rio: Not this Saturday. He's actually going to be there twice — once in Atlanta proper, then two weeks later in Decatur (wow, I'm a poet!), which is just outside Atlanta. This is the website for the Decatur Book Festival:
http://www.decaturbookfestival.com/2010/index.php
Since PA and SQ will both be there, I'm planning to go to both appearances. I really don't have a plan yet. I figure I'll just introduce myself and see where it goes from there. Hopefully he'll know who I am. Surely there won't be more than one Kirby T. Penworthy is his audience! But if it's real crowded, I probably won't have more than a millisecond to talk to him. Maybe I'll just station myself outside before it starts and "strongly discourage" anyone from coming in — a few growls, and maybe I'll even see if I can get my other ear to stand up so I look tougher. Then I'll have all the time in the world!

Re: Rubicon – I watched it on Hulu. They had the first two episodes. Maybe by now they have three.
The L.
6:47 pm on August 19th, 2010
Kirby!… Of course I’m confused about that tooo!….sniff!… I knew you would be going to one of the appearances in Georgia!..ahhhhh…So no one we know will be at BarkWorld(heh) this weekend….drat!…. I think Decatur will be the most fun because both of them will be there!…heh!… You will get to meet both Spence and Admin!…wow! …How freakin’ cool will that be my flop eared friend!???? Heh! …
(we will talk before you go mark my words!)…snicker!
6:48 pm on August 19th, 2010
I was just looking at the book festival website again — kept wondering what "ajc" mean, and finally looked it up — Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Mom actually had an article published in that paper once. It was a story that was picked up by AP, and somebody sent her a copy of the paper. She always thought it was pretty cool that she worked for a small town newspaper, but was published by a paper in the Big City!
6:52 pm on August 19th, 2010
Badge!…Kirby, as the time grows near I’m sure Staff will make you a Badge of Honor and that will alert Spencer or Admin to whom they are talking too right off the bat!…heh!…But we will organize that in a few weeks before you go to meet the Author on behalf of all of Us!…heh!
6:57 pm on August 19th, 2010
I'm sure I'll be representing everyone here when I see PA and SQ, and I take that responsibility very seriously. And was Macy or someone going to see him when he's in Texas? But by then he'll actually have the new book — drat! I'll be three weeks too early for that. Sigh!
6:57 pm on August 19th, 2010
You guys are so funny!! I love the imagery of KTP growling at PA and SQ fans, while attempting to put his other ear up. Too funny!!
Rio – tell you friend that we (mom and I) will be thinking of her and her mom tomorrow….."Parting is such sweet sorrow….."
All this talk about Hemmingway – let's not forget that the guy was a lush……
We didn't get any bacon, but I did get a few bites of pizza.-

Wolfie: If I put my head back my ear stands up straight, and if I concentrate real hard and hold my head right, it'll stay that way for awhile! (Until I put it too far forward, then it'll flop back down).
7:36 pm on August 19th, 2010
Wolfie!…Okay! I will tell her your kind thoughts…snort!… I know she will most truly appreciate those thoughts… sigh!… We, as a family are hoping for a closure for Dad tomorrow.. snuff!…Just a finality. A goodbye. Prayers and Poems will be said. finally!…Her mom was Dead-Set on the anniversary date… snort!…So tomorrow is August 21st no matter what the Mortuary or Calendar says..….So there! grump!
7:55 pm on August 19th, 2010
Oh dear. Mom will be upset to know that tomorrow is the 21st. The electric bill is due on the 20th, but tomorrow is Mom's day off, so she was going to pay it then. Can we let them think it's the 20th so Mom doesn't have a late charge?
Seriously, though, Rio. My Grandma died before I moved here, but I know it was real hard on my Dad. I hope tomorrow's prayers and poems give all of you a wonderful feeling of peace and comfort.

Chet’s part of the thing in Georgia is not until Saturday afternoon…4:45 as I recall.
