Good morning, everyone! Sheesh. Another case of spending lots of moolah on something that people who hang around dogs could have told them. Safe travels, Dawson.
    Have a funky Friday.

    Morning everyone
Dawson – thanks a freakin lot for that video. Like our Wrotten Kars need any more ideas.
(Oh, and by the way, Mama has the book Alaska. Can we send it to you?)

Good morning! Here is the part of that story that jumped out at me:
“In dogs, vocal processing areas also responded to non-vocal sounds, but in humans they were triggered by voice alone “.
I am able to understand my mom’s emotions with no words needed.

Wow! Mama just pulled up the old (faded, grimy, nasty) dining room wall to walk carpet and found gorgeous oak floors underneath.
No more carpeting for THIS room.

Not sure of the point of the study, but at least the dogs were not hurt.

They say in the report “One open question is what dogs hear when humans speak”. All they have to do is read some C & B books and then they might have a clue.

ML posted two nice pics last night. Now have to go read her Facebookie comments.

T & G, tell your mama we wish her good luck at the auction tonight.

Barb got a big boo-boo yesterday. Came in the front door with ice on her boots. Did a few very ungraceful ice skating steps before flying up in the air and landing kerplunk on her tail
bone. Walking, and mostly standing up and sitting down, are very painful. Probably a good thing she is not flying north in a few days.

Chet: That is a great photo and an interesting link.
And speaking of photos. ML posted a couple of good ones on yesterday’s blog. With the camera’s date stamp in the corner, it’s proof positive she’s in Alaska. Judging from the smile on her face, it looks like she’s having fun, fun, fun.
Royal Mum: Oak floors! It’s like finding a buried treasure. You must be positively giddy.
B: Mom has a question. She has a French press, but hasn’t used it in a long time because her brew never seems to taste right. Now she’s out of filters and it is the only option. Can you help her out?…for instance…what grind of coffee is best?
Riö: Per Dawson’s update, it seems my trusty GreyHound tracker failed to calculate her exact route last evening. Perhaps it has gone the way of the RNG. Thank Kat she advised of her itinerary.

    Game on, Dawson.
B&M, mom slipped on a step here on Monday evening, and she didn’t even have ice under her! She did not hurt her legs or her tail bone thank Cat. However the hurt her pinkie finger super bad. It is black and maybe permanently bent. She is having a very difficult time typing on her keyboard at work.
Our DSL is out and because Mom was planning to work from home, it was too late (and icy and foggy) for her to get to work. She had to burn a vacation day a d I am reduced to typing on her phone. Gah!

  26. Barb & Maggie
    10:14 am on February 21st, 2014

Thanks for the words of sympathy. When Barb has fallen it has always been indoors, never outside when she was at the farm with all that ice and snow.

Today she is meeting Kelly for lunch. They were going to meet at one spot that requires walking and steps. May have to go to Plan B.

We here love hardwood floors and area rugs better than wall to wall. Do have carpet in 2 bedrooms, but we have laminate and rugs every where else. Would have preferred real wood, but prior owner had just installed the laminate the year before we moved here, so we are living with it.

  27. Tupper and Gilly

TC – please say that your Mon had that pinkie finger checked by a doctor type person. It hurts our paws just to think about it.

Bella – we hope that when you read this it will be from home. On the couch. With your feet up and a banana ( for potassium) in your hand.

Mommy has fallen and hurt her tailbone many times (did we say she is very clumsy?). That is soooo painful and takes a long time to heal. A pinkie doesn’t compare. Our sympathies are with Barb.

  32. Herd of Hounds

Lucy Lou suggests that Barb place her tailbone under the quilt before and after lunch and that OH’s mom put her pinkie under the quilt, too. Lots of room and very soothing (and a great mental picture!)
Mom agrees with wood and tile floors. She says it is easier to harvest hair around here.
Charging the I Paw while mom runs a billion errands before the north to

  33. Barb & Maggie

Howlers, They could probably set that finger so it doesn’t heal crooked.

How long do you think it will be before this injury stops hurting? We are thinking that if something is cracked it may be 4-6 weeks. Gah!

  34. Barb & Maggie
    10:50 am on February 21st, 2014

Royal Mum, Did the painters put the new knobs on the cabinet doors, or do you have a man or woman around there with a high skill level who is going to do it?

HOH, Barb’s tail bone may not fit under the Quilt.

  36. Tupper and Gilly
    10:58 am on February 21st, 2014

Barb – believe it or not, the person who built this house had the wrought iron hinges and handles custom made for the doors. So each one is drilled a little differently and has matching holes in the individual cabinets. So we had the painters just paint them.
Maybe someday we will remove the handles, fill the holes, touch up the paint, buy new hardware, redrill the holes and place the new handles.
    But not this week.

  37. O'Howlers
    11:09 am on February 21st, 2014

Barb, it will hurt a little less as time goes on. By 4-6 weeks you at least won’t be reminded of it every minute.

For Bella: We suspect that bananas may be difficult to come by in Willow. According to Will Clower, other sources are dairy, avocados, apricots, raisins, canned salmon, chicken, codfish, legumes (beans and peanuts), spinach, acorn squash, carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and molasses.

Staff! Yeep! We wondered why you were hardly posting. Good thing you are soon heading north to ger out of that winter weather, eh?
It is nice being able to watch hockey for a change. Mom used to be a bigtime Flyers fan. She even shared a 4-seat season ticket package with 3 or 4 others. When she married Pop, she taught him hockey and got him to love it too. They then only went to weekend games. But Ed Snyder, the evil owner of Comcast AND the Flyers, would not allow Flyers games to be shown on Satellite, which is the only thing we can get here. So now Mom does not watch them, even on the rare days when a national channel has one of their games.

I don’t understand the need for research for things already known on this here blog. As a member of the nation within, I understand a lot of things like knowing my mama was not well when the Giant brought her home yesterday. We all knew it. Garcia who has never been on the bed before, jumped up on the bed and made sure she obeyed doctor’s orders to rest.

Yesterday was not the day my mama planned. She has been looking forward to wrapping up her assignment at the top of the world. About ten minutes before she got the airport, her fingers were tingling. By the time she arrived at the airport, her right arm was numb and things got worse from there. She thought about continuing through TSA and boarding her flight—she gets her stubbornness from me—but at the urging of AJ cancelled her plans and sought out the airport police for assistance. We knew she wouldn’t have called AJ unless she was truly scarit. She is really weak. Today has been a day of up and downs, and she has been sleeping a lot. Thank you all for your concern. The Thieves blurred beer and hot wings to Rio’s corner last night lest he waste away in his worry. We can’t have that, no we can not.

Well, shoot. Mama couldn’t afford anything she wanted at that auction. The dining room set went through the roof! This was the strangest estate this auction place has ever had. There was tons and tons of amazing stuff being auctioned off including a brand new car – brand new mind you with less than 1000 miles on it. It sold for 28 thousand – NOT to Mama. Hundreds of brand new, still in boxes small appliances of all kinds – I mean really, why would someone have 5 brand new toasters, 6 coffeemakers, 3 deep fat fryers – all in unopened boxes?? Because of the assortment at the auction, the place was PACKED wall to wall. So the bidding was high.
Oh well – she is still so happy with her new paint and new stove, she doesn’t care.
Tomorrow, she says she will take pictures of the new, and post them. But now – she simply must go to bed as her tail is dragging.
